I tried my first cachapa from Coromoto Restaurant and I was not disappointed. Cachapas are Venezuelan sweet corn cakes, typically stuffed with cheese and meat. I got mine with shredded chicken. The cheese was delicious and gooey but it was a little too rich at times with the sweetness of the corn cake. I would've preferred slightly more understated sweetness. My husband ordered a pepito which is a traditional Venezuelan sandwich with meat cheese and fried potato shreds. It came with fries which were very greasy but very crispy (looks like they coat them in some kind of starch). Overall, it was a heavy meal but very tasty. read more

Food, service, and ambiance, were a 10/10 for me. I love how I was able to live through Venezuelan culture and feel transported throughout the experience. For a new place your really not starting right. First off please advertise a phone number so you can be contacted. Also please check your orders before sending them out. You failed to put the pork chops in the meal all I got was potatoes. Also if you say something comes with something make sure it's there. I was exited about a Venezuelan place in the area, the reviews at this point were not good but I still decided to give it a try. I lived in Venezuela so I know about the food there. On the positive side, the Tequeños and the Empanada were very good. They also prepared my food really quick. Not so positive: I also ordered a Cachapa, which is a typical Venezuelan dish... well, I couldn't eat. Despite the "not appetizing" look of the dish (see picture) I took a few bites. The flavor of both, the Cachapa and the cheese was not right. Cachapas and Arepas need to be prepared in the moment, this one seems to be heated in a microwave. This place is not good, a whole JOKE, their prices in the menus are not aligned with what they have in the system so they end up charging way more than your expecting, plus they charge 20% tip right away without even saying anything so you end up tipping twice at the end and they're not willing to back up the transaction or at least give you the money back. In my opinion This restaurant is the worst in customer service After waiting for 30 mins for the food we decided to ask how much longer the food would take and the waitress came back and said there was some sort of "error" and to wait an extra couple mins. When the food came out it was a cold cachapa of pernil with cold cheese. I've eaten here a few times since I moved to the neighborhood two months ago. The arepas are great and some of the other dishes we tried are good. The issue I have is that they placed a "service fee" on my bill because the total was over $50. I've never heard of that as a reason for including gratuity, and as a matter of fact we ate there last month and spent over $50 and didn't have that charge. No where on the menu did it mention that type of charge. They do mention 3.5% for credit card transactions on the front door (which is kind of shady in its own right, because it means they're making money on every card transaction), but there's no mention anywhere of any other included fees. I was in a hurry to get out so I didn't look at the bill and quickly added a tip when I signed. Despite having had a mixup with our order (we were brought the wrong food), dear reader, I still gave a 20% tip. It was only when I got home that I questioned the total cost. $101.95 did seem steep for 4 arepas and a sangria pitcher. When I looked at the online menu, and I did some quick math, I realized that even if they had charged me for the food they mistakenly brought out, the total should have been lower. That is when I called and found out about this random service fee, which apparently doesn't even go to the servers. I very politely asked to have the additional tip returned to me, and we could call it even. I was told a supervisor would call me back, but I didn't receive the call. They also said that they couldn't undo the charge because they already ran my card, but typically restaurants process tips at the end of the week, so that didn't make sense either (sure enough the charge went from $84 a few nights ago to $101 today). So, unfortunately I have to agree with the other reviewers here. The food is good, the customer service is questionable. I hope those extra $40 make up for a customer who was spending on average $100 a month in the short time he has lived in the area. I was really hoping they'd give me at least a discount next time I came in, but now there won't be a next time. read more
