The restaurant is small and stuffy, the tables are almost on top of each other and service is lacking. But the food I will deal with all those little inconveniences for the food. I had a simple chicken breast accompanied by white rice and potato salad. The chicken was well seasoned and moist, the potato salad, out of this world and rice was just regular. As "dessert" I decided to try their lemonade sugar cane drink. Very refreshing. However don't be fooled by the name, this is not your old lemonade, maybe it's cousin that lived in South America for a while and came back much cooler and interesting. read more

As Venezuelan I am always looking for Venezuelan Restaurants. The food was good and it really made me remember those flavors from my Country! My problem was with the service only one person to do everything like making coffee, cashier, washing the coffee mugs, taking orders and bringing the food to the tables. We wait too long to get our coffees and our empanadas. At the end we gave up and we didn't wait for all our order. sadly this person was in a bad mood I guess just overwhelmed from so many customers ! It is Labor Day around 12pm so this place was full. Glad I finally tried this place. I was craving arepas, and I never had them quite like this. Got one with cheese, and one with ham and cheese. At first I thought I wasn't gonna like it because they don't melt the cheese. But I gave it an open mind thinking that's the "Venezuelan way" so wanted to experience the way they intend me to. And good thing, because it was really tasty. Especially with the "picante" sauce (don't forget this!). They stuff them beyond the brim too. Now, if you want the sweet kind of arepas they serve at street fairs, those are sweet corn based, and called "arepas de choclo". (I know, sounds like chocolate but no chocolate, although that wouldn't be a crazy idea). I couldn't find de choclo on this menu, but they can typically be found in Colombian restaurants. JUST "arepa" by contrast is usually a savory corn based one, and by itself is kinda bland (tastes exactly like grits). Just fyi! (I personally prefer the choclo one, especially if it has melted cheese in the middle). If you ever see an arepa with cheese, just ask if it's the sweet or savory kind so you know which one you're getting. The other thing I got here which was the most worth-it item was the fish (pescado) empanada, made fresh on the spot. If you ask for it, and they say "in 5 minutes", trust me, wait the 5 minutes! So all-in-all, the 2 arepas + 1 empanada was the right amount of food. If I go back, I am curious to try one of the pernil dishes or other empanadas. read more

As a Venezuelan I enjoy any of our typical food restaurant, specially this one cause I near my house. The prices are fine and the taste in every single plate I ordered is delicious but what it's catastrophic is their customer service. The ladies always seems to be on another planet, on the phone or talking to each other which I wouldn't mind if they wouldn't leave the customers hanging and waiting for them. 3.5 stars. My first Venezuelan experience in Jersey. I'll start off with a shared app. The Cachapa, which is sweet corn arepa stuffed with pork shoulder and covered in fresh cheese and maybe a crema. This was certainly the highlight. Light sweetness, savory, with a creamy cheesy topping. I would most definitely get this again. My arepa Reina pepiada was good but not great. It is a shredded chicken salad with avocado. The Pabellon was real nice. The sweet plantains are a good counterpoint to the savory rich beef inside. I used the garlic mayo they have and it paired real nicely. My friend had the bistec encebollado (steak with onions) and it was a thin piece of chuck that was fatty and chewy. If that dish would've delivered a little more, they would've got a 4 star. I would certainly return if I get an itch for some Venezuelan food. Go give them a shot. GET THE CACHAPA!! I dont know whats wrong with the people who work in The Counter but the costumer service sucks. They don't know how to take orders, no professionalism at all. We waited 40 minutes for an order, they didn't even called us, we had to called them to ask about the food and they said that they weren't available to do the delivery and that that was okay because we can all make mistakes (?) they didn't have the decency to call to let us know that they couldn't bring our food, they had to wait till we called us. Close to my house and open early to decently late. Pass by manly to grab breakfast or brunch. Nice little place friendly staff, they do traditional venezuelan empadas which is nice most other places use goya frozen cuban style. They also make stuffed arepas which isnt very common in the area. Only down fall they dont have a large selection of light fair like salad selection etc. read more

Very few places in NJ were you can find Venezuelan food and I finally was able to eat a great cachapa away from my home country. Fair priced for the size and with great flavor. Definitely try the one with pernil! Will go back for seconds soon read more

Wonderful Venezuelan food! Very authentic. I only had the arepa carne machada because I was curious to try this restaurant when I was running errands and just needed a snack. They also have a few Venezuelan products, including candy which reminded me of childhood trips to Caracas. The staff is so friendly.
