Second time here and both times, I came during non busy hours. I enjoyed the upbeat but relaxing decor along with the holiday decorations. Walking in you head to the lovely display of pastries and order over the counter. I do love their tables/booths. Makes you feel comfortable and elevated at the same time. For coffee, I ordered the cafe con leche which is made with powdered milk. I misheard and thought they said evaporated milk. Not my cup of Joe. Their drip on the other hand was good. For food, I ordered the cachapa. First time was with shredded chicken and it was not good. It was tough and a little bit cold. The second time around, I ordered it sans protein and it was lovely, flaky, and beautiful with the cheese and sauce me. The Pan Jamón, bread itself was a good texture but I felt the olive and raisins weren't in harmony with the piece. The pistachio croissant was a bit over the top. The croissant was nice and flaky but I had to take out the filling. Overall love the customer service, the decor. Still lots on the menu to try so willing to give it another chance! read more

Happened upon this lovely cafe/bakery with my daughter after-school on a Friday. We recognized the style of the menu immediately and learned the neighbors in Casa Ora own Lulla's as well. It was busy but not crowded with people dining and working on their laptops. The fare is Venezuelan and ranges from guacamole toast to croissants. You can order at the counter or find a table and order via the QR code at your table on weekdays. On weekends theres more of a brunch crowd and they have wait service. I tried the ham and cheese croissant which was great but I really love the guacamole toast. Love this place and props for being open on weekdays at 7- not enough places in the area open early. What a great all day restaurant! Lulla's has everything from Venezuelan pastries and coffees to breakfast and dinner dishes. We were able to get a table on a weekend morning, but it quickly filled up by lunchtime. I haven't had a lot of Venezuelan food before so I wasn't familiar with many of the dishes, but there were many I wanted to try. We started with the pastelitos which were similar to empanadas and filled with beef and cheese. I could have eaten several more of them! We also got the arepa stuffed with eggs, avocado and cheese. A great breakfast dish! Lastly, we tried the cachapa which was a sweet & savory corn pancake with guayanes cheese, nata & queso mixto. I've never had anything like it before and it was very filling! A unique Venezuelan bakery that opened up this year, I think a few months ago? The pastries are a must get. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the pastries. To have access to the entire menu, you'd need to come after 12 noon. "Bites" are available at 7AM, sandwiches at 9AM, and brunch items at 12 noon. I really liked their "Tacon" French Toast. For "bites", the Mandocas and Tequenos are super popular. For coffee or espresso drink, I recommend the Dirty Chicha. It's similar to drinking a Horchata. read more

Tried Lulla's and absolutely loved it! I ordered the arepa combo along with the empanadas and tequeños, and everything was fresh, flavorful, and so satisfying. With furniture heavily accented in Paul Rudolph's favorite color, Paprika, this new upmarket Venezuelan cafe is one of the more pleasant locales for wasting away an afternoon in Williamsburg these days. The reason for the 3 star review is really the golfeado, a classic Venezuelan pastry I was excited to try due to the combination of savory flavors from the queso guayanes. Unfortunately the sweet syrup has a slightly chemical aftertaste that made this order a disappointment. The arepa was quite good. The dough could have been a little chewier and less tough, but the combination of fillings including black beans, cheese and avocado was excellent. We love Casa Ora for dinner, so we had to try this sister spot for brunch. I ordered the brisket and eggs sandwich, served in a soft fluffy bread along with delicious sweet plantains. My wife is Venezuelan and loved her Cachapas; she complimented the flavor of its corn. We stopped by the bakery on our way out and grabbed a few things to go. I ordered two of the muffin shaped croissants filled with guava and cream. The interior design, with its warm orange tones and golden lighting, deserves a nice mention as well. I wanted to like this place more than I did - the atmosphere is lovely, and even the bathrooms are nice. The menu is good, but prices are high - $12 for a golfeado is a sticker shock for any Venezuelan. I don't mind paying if it's good, but sadly it came out too salty - they need to find the right cheese that isn't too salty to mix in with the dough before baking. Definitely isn't as good as Miami's Don Pan or Caracas' Pan 900. And to add insult to injury, the outside ring of the golfeado tasted dry. I wouldn't order this again from here, sadly, until they fix the recipe (and perhaps lower the price until they get it right and make it a coveted item again). I also had the arepa andina, which isn't easy to find, considering it's a very regional thing - being staple type of arepa from the Venezuelan Andes mountains. For me, this one the filling was nice - with the homemade smoked salmon being a nice touch and perhaps a New York twist to the item. However, the arepa andina was a bit too thick to my liking - making it a bit too doughy than it needed to be. If it was thinner, I think this could definitely be a winner. But again, I would not order this again - again, not until they get it right. After trying this one, I'm just at least grateful that there's another Venezuelan place that makes a better one (and at a fraction of the price too) in New York. The parchita juice (passion fruit) was fine. The coffee with "Venezuelan milk" was unusual - I didn't think Venezuelan milk was a thing and then after tasting it, I realized what it was - powdered milk - which is common in Venezuela (at least for some of the Venezuelans not buying Parmalat or other branded milks that was also ubiquitous there). And yes, it's good - and I can see how it's nostalgic - I did enjoy drinking powder milk - the more powder, the merrier. Nice touch to make bougie what really wasn't - I wouldn't ordering it again - and since it is a unique flavor, I can see the appeal and where the praises for it are coming from even it is not something you typically get from a coffee shop in Caracas - at least not that I recall. What really wasn't good here though are the mandocas - thinner and fried lighter than what I'm used to, they're definitely tasty morsels! Not cheap, at $12, but being as tasty as they were, I would order them again. These Venezuelan corn/sweet plantain fritters (oddly referred to as "doughnuts" here) are something I can direct people to order immediately! When I came up to the counter to mention that the pricey golfeado was too salty - she pretty much shrugged and wasn't able to comment or do something or communicate it with the kitchen or manager. I feel that the counter team could use a bit more training in hospitality, but overall staff was friendly, even if they may not be as accommodating. While I was bummed with my initial experience after opening my wallet, I do want to try a few other items at some point to see how they also fare so I may return and will update my review when I do. read more

Beautiful space and lovely, clean bathroom with sinks outside the toilet area (which I appreciate as someone who just wants to use the sink upon entering a restaurant and hates waiting in line just to do so. There's a baked goods selection right as you enter that you can get to go if you so choose otherwise if you want to dine in you will be directed by the host to your seat. Very spacious dining area and a ton of options on the menu that means you can't do it all in one visit. You can absolutely get much of the menu at mom and pop shops but you're really paying for the area and the dining experience here. read more

Multi cultural cafe, bakery, and bar. Most prevalent are the bakery and cafe items that you'd find at a South American restaurant fused with the atmosphere from a European all day cafe / bar. There's a gorgeous long white stone bar counter sprawling around the restaurant. Lots of cozy seating with booths, love seats, and comfortable bar stools. It's a comfortable place that meant to lounge around at. I think they're still working out some logistics. There was no host stand or bartender but I anticipate those details to be worked out sooner than later. We ordered a glass of Pinot noir along with a pan de queso, and then we proceeded to grab seats at the bar. The wine glass came out quickly and the pan came out a bit later. Have never had such a horrible experience at an nyc restaurant. We were told to order using the QR codes, so we did - our credit cards were charged and we received an email confirmation. After waiting almost 90 minutes with no one checking on us, we asked the staff when our orders would be ready, showing them our order confirmations, and were told "the QR codes don't work". They claimed there was a neighborhood-wide outage but the cafe we went to after said there definitely wasn't. Also, not sure how we would be charged and get confirmations if there was an outage. We understand mistakes happen but what made this unacceptable was how rude the staff was. They were dismissive and sarcastic to us, telling us to "google what an outage is" and asked us "what do you want us to do about it". They tried to say it wasn't their responsibility to let us know the QR codes on their tables don't work, and that we were unreasonable for being upset, when we asked why they didn't make an announcement or remove the QR codes from each table. Even after this, they made no effort to remove the QR codes from the tables or let people know. Eventually they did offer to void the transaction and comp our food but at that point we had to leave and given how rude the staff was we weren't comfortable eating there. The charge has still not been removed from my card. (BTW, we had waited so long because other reviews on Google said they had to wait an hour for their food so we thought maybe this was standard for them since it seemed to be a small team.) read more

Love this place. First tried take out and then this weekend sat for brunch with my family. Cachapa is delicious along with the croissants, Campesino sandwich with the pineapple chutney is delicious along with the espresso martinis which are less sweet but it was perfect since we had a couple sweet pastries like the Nutella cruffin. The only thing I wish is that we had been given a last call for food and beverages. The place closes at 5pm but at 4:35pm we tried to order a dirty chicha and a lady not our server said the staff was already cleaning up so it wasn't possible to have any coffee drinks. Thankfully when we asked our server Jolie about it she surprised us with the beverage soon after. Jolie was very sweet. We will definitely be back. read more

My boyfriend and I (both Venezuelan) came to this place with high expectations, they unfortunately were not met. We tried the cachapa and it was too salty it didn't taste like Venezuelan cachapa at all, the cachitos need work, they were too doughy like a comment here said. Coffee and cold toddy were really good but overall they could improve their recipes especially for the price they are charging. Their employees were really nice though! I'm Venezuelan. I came with high expectations, but unfortunately, it's nothing like authentic Venezuelan cuisine. The cachito dough is definitely not the best; it doesn't taste like cachito at all. The cachapa isn't good at all. If they want to sell Venezuelan food, they should hire Venezuelan cooks. I think they want to Americanize the food, but don't call it "Venezuelan" because it isn't. The empanadas are Colombian, not Venezuelan. In short, the food is disappointing and prices are insine. The place is very beautiful, but the food isn't the best. Besides, I'm just giving tips, and the entire service is self-service. You literally have to fetch your water, your cutlery, absolutely everything. They have a very beautiful place that they could use to its full potential, but they definitely need to improve the food. read more
