My husband and I came on a Saturday morning to have breakfast. We shared a Combo #1, Combo #4 and Cuban Sandwich. The prices are unbeatable here, and the food is very good too. We'll likely just get sandwiches in the future though, because the combos are basically deconstructed sandwiches and end up just being messy to eat. Clean, nice ambiance. Took off one star just because the waitresses weren't very attentive to us. They seemed to serve other customers before us time and time again, and we had to try very hard to flag someone down to get our complementary cups of orange juice, extra napkins and check. They aren't short staffed, we think they just preferred to interact with Spanish-speaking customers. Other than this service aspect, we really like it 10/10 and will be back. read more

Good food, not that pricey but don't go early Saturday morning since that place will be jammed packed. The place itself isn't really that big, so not much space. But the food is REALLY good for the price. They have daily specials on the hot food, and their sandwiches and coffee is sooooo good! If you're in a rush and don't feel like waiting about 15 minutes on line, just to get a quick serving of fresh orange juice AND you are not known to them, then No! The orange juice was good. Never tried the food BUT just the service and if you're not their frequent known customer than you will be cut in line and pretty much ignored. So no, it's not even worth my time! I went in for the very first time and literally! About four people had cut me and it felt like they don't even acknowledge you and ignore you. And That's rude! Always see how busy the place is when we walk by & saw how cheap the menu is and finally decided to give this place a try. We came on a Thursday around 6pm and it wasn't too crowded and got seated immediately. They have daily specials and we were going to opt for the short ribs and another beef dish. But we were told that they have sold out of everything besides the soups for the Thursdays Special. So come early if you want to order certain items. Nonetheless, our waitress gave us a list of other entrees that they had such as the pepper steak, chicken, pork that still come with either white or yellow rice & black beans. Beef empanada: Crispy, juicy and savory filling. Paired nicely with the hot sauce. Different from the ones I've had. Chicken empanada: Personally didn't really enjoy this one. The filling was dry and not too much flavor. Pan con Bistec w/ fries: for $6 sandwich very worth it (fries were ordered as a side) The meat has a really nice char & grilled flavor to it. Some parts of the meat were tougher but still really good. Fries were good, kinda tasted like McDonald Fries just need some more salt. Bistec con Salteado: your classic pepper steak, steak was tender and paired nicely with the rice and veggies, just wish there was more meat. Plantain was so good and sweet. Tres leches: a nice sweet treat to end everything. Your standard tres leches cake. Overall, the food reminded me of going over to my spanish friend's house for dinner lol. Given the price point of everything in this economy, it was good. Definitely will be coming back on those days where I just don't want to cook. As always, this place almost hits home comfort food. Especially with the price value. It really works out. I enjoy their sancocho a lot. We ordered the large one to go and there was a good amount of meat in there. The downside is that you do have to pay for sides. The soups and sancocho does not come with rice. I come here fairly often because my son loves their empanadas. Unfortunately, today is the last day I will consider giving them my business. We come after school, it's busy always, the food is good, I stand in line and I patiently wait my turn to order like everyone else should do. It's total chaos, they don't make eye contact with you, if you're waiting on line they will completely ignore you as other people come in, regulars maybe, who yell out an order in Spanish. I waited 15 minutes patiently, trying to get someone's attention, until I simply had enough and walked out with a very disappointed 3 year old who just wanted 1 empanada as we we watched other people come and go with their food. I hate leaving a bad review at a place that I want to like but this is not the first time I was treated that way and it will certainly be the last. I had a delicious breakfast with two eggs, bacon, mangu, bread with butter, fried cheese, cafe con leche and freshly squeezed orange juice for $7.95. Yes, $7.95. Add to that a post breakfast croquette and chicken empanada for only a little over $2. The best part is that every item on the plate was delicious. The mangu was my favorite. The dining area is cozy and welcoming, with latin music and friendly banter (mostly in Spanish) making up the background noise. The space is ideal for parties of 2-4, but there is a bar up front if you want to stop in for some cafe con leche and a quick bite. Next up--almuerzo! read more

I knew Rumba's as an inexplicably low-priced breakfast spot, but it turns out lunch is great too. The Wednesday pork chop special was outstanding. Here're my reasons for the two stars: the orange juice was very good but when it was served it was warm, which not surprisingly didn't taste RIGHT. I had to call the extremely busy waitress over for some ice which I did got. I didn't think my sandwich was anything special. One of the things I didn't care about it was it was slightly greasy. My waitress was okay but I didn't think she stood out as anything special -- running around (unconsciously it seemed) the way she did. This probably seems snooty but due to all the above as well as the fact this diner doesn't seem to care that the food that's served here ISN'T organic, from grass fed cows, pasture raised chickens, etc. I felt my 0.25 tip (see pic) was sufficient. Tostones were a real disappointment, small, thin, and totally dry. Chicken empanadas were "ciegos" (blind or lacking filling) as my mother used to say! Some friends of mine live near Rumba's in Jersey City. I was at their place and they had already eaten. I asked them if they recommended any spots in the area to get something quick, not too heavy. They both recommended Rumba's! They said they go there all the time, and it almost never fails! So I walked a couple blocks down to Rumba's to see what they were about. It's a Cuban restaurant with lots of culture and energy. Just the decor alone was enough for me to wanna order something. They have this red counter top with stools. It's very 60's-esque. I dug it! The staff are mostly Spanish speaking, sweet, charismatic women. One of them took my order, which was simply two chicken empanadas, as well as an irresistible slice of their chocolate cake. The chicken empanadas weren't as moist as I would've preferred, but still delicious and incredibly flavorful! It had a pretty, crispy, salted crust that complimented the chicken well! I was very impressed with the flavor of the chicken, and wish I had ordered more! I mean, I will for sure the next time I'm in the neighborhood, amongst some other menu items! Now, as for this chocolate cake. Girl, this chocolate cake. Whether or not it's made in-house, I'm not sure, but girl, this chocolate cake. That thick icing/mousse was giving very much chocolate pudding (but richer) decadence! The edge of the cake had these crumbly Oreo-like bits that just added to satisfaction. This place...is so cheap...and so good... Got pernil asada, which came with rice and beans on the side. I paid $7 for my food! My friend ordered the same but with chicken and she paid $5! Absolutely amazing. I'm usually picky about the pernil I eat but was pleasantly surprised! Also, the food literally came out *SO* quick after we ordered! Probably less than 5 minutes! Really liked the atmosphere here and couldn't believe how low some of the prices were! The chicken soup I got was only $2.50 and the broth was so good and it was enough to fill me like any other entree. The only thing that might bother some is that the chicken in the soup will not be boneless as I'm assuming they use whole chickens to help make this broth so only get this if you are not squeamish about eating chicken off bone and potentially having other little bits from the chicken in your soup. We enjoyed the empanadas we got as appetizers (the cheese and guava one pleasantly surprised us!), though the fruit smoothies we got were a little too sweet and didn't have enough tartness for our liking. Overall though definitely worth it for how low cost of a meal you will be paying, I am looking forward to coming here again and trying some other dishes since they vary each day of the week! read more

Love this place. We come here often because the food is so good and so affordable. You get your bang for your bunch here and it never disappoints. Staff are super friendly and attentive. As far as food you could try anything and love it. For breakfast the mangu with eggs and fried cheese is fire. Have tried many things here and they're all about average. That said you can't complain about the price, so it's one of those places that you get what you pay for. This is my new breakfast spot. When family and friends come to visit Jersey City, this is the best spot for a great meal under $5! I've enjoyed both the #2 and #4 breakfast specials (on separate occasion). Both are delicious! The food has been flavorful, generous portions and piping hot each time. The service is average, however they get extra bonus points for the speed of food delivery. I look forward to trying dinner here some time soon. read more
