I went to Corona Express smog and was rudely greeted by the young man working there. After jerking me around I finally stated that I would go somewhere else. He yelled get out of the car and say that to my face. With that I replied f-you I'll go somewhere else. The guy actually wanted to fight me and chased me out onto Grand Blvd. I have used them to smog my cars for probably 20 years. Something has definitely changed at this shop and I will never go back! I have been going to this Smog Check station for over 15 years. I have always been treated well, and as an ASE Certified Master Technician with 35 years of experience, there has always been a level of mutual respect with the tech doing my smog check..... not this time. This review is the first bad review I have ever posted online about another business. It's too bad it had to be a business in my field. I have always believed that good customers don't complain; they just don't come back. Being in the automotive industry myself, I felt compelled to share my experience this time. I brought my 1995 Dodge truck in for a smog check. The complete test was performed, and to my surprise, my vehicle failed for a bad gas cap, and I was told that he could not find the EGR valve. The EGR valve on these engines are partially hidden but can be seen with a flashlight which this tech did not have. He did try using the light on his cell phone though but insisted that he could not see it. When I told him that this station had passed this truck many times before, he said he had been there five years and would have been the one testing it last time, so maybe he was just lazy that day! Really! Well, he told me he was relieved anyway because it failed for the gas cap, so he really didn't have to worry about failing me for the "missing" EGR valve. California allows test only stations to sell a gas cap, so a customer doesn't fail the smog test on that alone, and he said he had one in stock. I said I would gladly purchase it (just like I did the last time I was there two years before!). I have owned this truck since it was new and I offered to show him where the EGR valve was located. I pointed it out to him, and he said he couldn't see it and maybe it is disconnected or something. Knowing it was there, I offered to get a scope so he could see it better and he declined. I was charged for the test was told if I could prove, to his satisfaction, it was there that a retest would only be $29. I left but not before telling him I would be filing a complaint with the Bureau of Automotive Repair and then the lousy attitude got even worse. No retest for me! I have to go to a referee station now. I promptly went to another smog station, and the tech there had no problem identifying the "missing" EGR valve and my truck passed the smog check with no issues. Find a different smog station and save yourself the headache of dealing with this guy. His competence is questionable. read more

He was very informative and letting me know the potential causes for some of the areas where the smog data was elevated. Let me just say that I have been here a few times before and was treated much better and that is why I came back to get another smog done. So Friday afternoon upon arrival I explain to a young man who I believe to be Jeremy that its was a hot one out and I had just got done with AAA because my battery was dead & that is why my hands were dirty because I had removed the battery posts and cleaned them. He tells me give your paperwork and has me sign for the smog test. Almost immediately after plugging in the car and looking at the motor he tells me that I failed because the computer had not reset on my vehicle because of the dead battery and I need to drive the car for a few hours then come back for a retest when the readings would show. The retest would be about $21. My initial thought was, that it would have been nice had he told me that when I first told him about the dead battery when I first came in... Any how I came back on Monday and the same young man is standing there. Doesn't greet me or acknowledge me as approach the counter. So say "hi" and tell him I'm there for the retest and he just looks at me and says I need your paper work. So I give him the paperwork and review where we left off Friday and he very rudely snaps "I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING!". I said I was just making sure you remembered me from Friday and don't know many customers you may have had since then. He turned to me and says "Excuse me? "I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING!". I told him I never said or implied you didn't know what you are doing. Why are you treating me so rudely? He looked at me then said "Look! do you want this done or not!" as if he was going to send me away rather than finish what he started the pasted Friday. He then tells me to give him my keys and I tell him That I did... they were in his pocket. I told him I wanted the test but didn't understand why he would speak to a customer so poorly. He quickly said "I'm Licensed by the state and know what im doing!" I told him again that I never implied or said that. Luckily for me another customer walked in and he backed off and instantly became cordial. He did everything he could to make me wait including starting the next smog test as I sat there. In closing, even though I didn't like it... I can handle being treated rudely. But what bothers me is that he would threaten to not finish what I had partially paid for. That's just wrong and a misuse of authority at the shop. By the way my car passed without me doing anything further to it. He initially tested my car knowingly not telling me about the battery reset and giving me the option to come back when it did just to get a retest. I'm not suggesting to go or not to go to this shop. Took a days rest to not write this upset. Been coming here for years. My car passed smog as it sits in December with the same tech. Now a factory installed boost gauge that has been there 6 years has failed his visual inspection (never an issue for 6 years plus or when he passed it 9 months ago). Boost gauge is not a boost controller. It tells you if your turbo is holding. I feel taking my money is a joke in this scenario. Car passed smog as is somewhere else. Just be warned that you may be surprised with what fails you. read more

The first thing they do is a visual inspection, they could've told me that right off the bat. They have the nerve to offer you a discount if you come back. Very disappointing experience. The technician (Jeremy) is not friendly and does not have the appearance of a professional. No uniform just a draggy t-shirt, greasy shorts and beat up tennis shoes. My car passed the emissions with flying colors but the technician failed the test because he didn't know how to use a timing light. The technician was distracted during the test because he was watching you tube videos on his tablet. If you have a car that it 5 years or older do not take it to this place for a smog because the technician is mandated to fail a certain number of vehicles per month and he will not got the extra effort to help you get your car smogged. The place went completely down hill after Douglas was replaced be new guy Jeremy. BTW. . .I took my car to a smog place down the street and it passed without any problems.
