I sought a Smog Shop technically capable of performing a State-mandated Smog Test on my 1995 Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon. 1 shop had broken equipment and a 2nd couldn't do "a classic car". Crescent immediately made me feel welcome as I walked in and responded "certainly" to my enquiry. I was 2nd in line. Parking is awkward - initially park in the first lot fronting 6th St., then walk in. The test is complex but was performed well. No grease, no dirt, no fingerprints! The Shop Owner keeps you apprised of the test progress and really simplified the paperwork. It is easy to see why the shop floor is busy. Technically competent with knowledgeable staff and a professional atmosphere! Once found, you'll be pleased! (I'ld like to see a Vending Machine w/Diet Coke). Went to smog test my 1995 Jeep Wrangler at another smog place and it failed. They advised to go to a smog certified repair shop, and looked on Yelp and found Crescent Auto. Called on a Friday at noon and spoke with Jeff and told him my Jeep didn't pass smog, and what the fees were to diagnose the problem. He let me know the fees and said we could bring it down today and he would probably have it over the weekend to see what was going on. Dropped it off right away, it's only a couple miles from my house, and Jeff called with an update on Monday and said what the problem was and how much it would be to fix it. I approved the charges and he also said they could do the smog test and certification too. Great! I don't have to take it to another place to see if it passes, Crescent Auto will do it all! Got the Jeep back, Jeff explained everything and gave us the detailed invoice with the smog certificate and off we went. My husband usually works on our vehicles, so this was a first for us to take the Jeep anywhere and it was definitely in good hands with Jeff and Crescent Auto. I usually handle most of my own car repairs, but when I was changing the engine and transmission mounts on my Toyota Corolla, I couldn't reach the last one at the rear. I reached out to Paul, the shop owner, who gave me a great quote. His technicians were able to take care of that final mount, and I'm really glad I let them handle it. What I thought would be a simple, under-2-hour job turned into a major challenge due to the last stud in the old mount being rusted and seized. It ended up taking 10-12 hours of labor, but Paul still honored his original quote and only charged me for an additional hour, which I didn't mind at all. The team here does honest, quality work. I overheard one of the technicians explaining a diagnosis to a young woman who had brought her car in for an inspection due to some unusual noises. It turned out to be nothing serious. This could have easily been an opportunity for them to inflate the bill, taking advantage of someone who might not have known better, but they didn't do that. Family owned and operated. Messaged Crescent Auto on a Sunday via the internet, and got a reply. I was traveling to Corona to help my neighbor's daughter look at a used car to purchase. She decided to purchase the car, and we took it to Crescent Auto for a pre purchase inspection. It took about 45 minute, without an appointment. The inspection found three issues, minor at best. We've been getting our smog checked for years. Then my mom came here based off their reviews for a car noise diagnostic, and they identified bad front brake caliper brackets. She got three other opinions and they all said her axels were going out, got the axels immediately replaced, and the noise was instantly gone. She called the owner, Paul, and asked for a refund for misdiagnosing her car. He asked her to come in person (ok...weird) and to bring the receipt. She made an appointment so he can review the receipt, and she showed him the axel replacement receipt. He first dismissed her then insisted she leave her car all day so he can rediagnose, but also told her that she can't wait at the shop until her car is ready (again...weird). My mom asked why she can't stay then told him that she wouldn't even want to leave her car with someone who won't let her stay, which made him angry and he told my mom to leave the shop. Then Paul ran after her in the parking lot (uh... creepy) and demanded she leave her car. My mom rightfully felt uneasy so told him no and said that she'll just leave a review. Paul then raised his voice and said "Fuck off! That's if you know how to spell!" My mom called me as soon as she left the parking lot, and I could hear how scared she was in her voice. Then he sent her a patronizing text restating everything he said because he knows he was wrong and told her to return for a few minute rediagnosis (oh, now it's a few minutes?). Then Paul takes your money while his shop guy makes up a reason why you didn't pass that has nothing to do with you actually passing. Then Paul gives some BS regarding state law prevents him from passing the car. It's all smoke and mirrors to hose you so they can make some extra $ cash by doing some bogus nonsense. I took my vehicle here to get smog repairs done. part of which involved a catalytic converter replacement. During the course of our initial discussion, I made the point that I wanted my old catalytic converter back after the repairs were done. They replaced the necessary parts to pass my vehicle. However, after the repairs were done and paying a high price for the repairs, the owner changed his tune and refused to give me back my property (old catalytic converter) and gave me some mumbo jumbo excuse of why I couldnt have my own property back. I am here to warn you that these people will scrape every dollar out of you and then some by keeping your old parts (especially the catalytic converter) to turn them over for more profit and refuse to give them back to you. These people will pull off these kind of things low key once they get your hard earned money and parts as well. Not only that, but they had the audacity to try to start a new conversation of some other vague money making opportunities. I was puzzled about why they would have the audacity to bring up another business conversation. Very awkward way to conduct a business. All be aware, he charged me $$150 to diagnose the noise that was coming from the car he said it's the brake system it's gonna cost about $1500 or fix. I don't believe him I took it to two other shops they charge me $150 diagnose the problem. It turned out to be the front axle driver side. Done for $250 went asked him for a refund. He cussed me out. I've come a few times to Crescent Auto because a friend referred me to them. I've found they are friendly and ethical, meaning one of the employees or the owner will show me the issue, drives with me so I can indicate the issue, are priced fairly (I've called other shops about the issue, requested an estimate and it was always more than what Crescent cited), etc. I had one time my car was jerking, they told me to come in even though it was last minute and took a look at my car right away. I will say, while I've waited in the office for my car to be looked at, I've heard other customers complain and Paul or Jeff will politely explain to them what was actually wrong with their car that might be different than what the owner of the car thought it was, or are waiting for parts (which really, they do not have complete control over), etc. They are always patient with these people.
