Before picture of her ulcer while she was still at the hospital.

My grandma had a fall on January 23rd and had surgery at Corona Regional Hospital. We had the option to bring her home when she got discharged or send her to a rehab clinic for about 2 weeks. So we decided to get a tour at this place to see if it fit what we were looking for. Initially, looking at the bad reviews we didn't want to bring her here but after the tour we decided to give it a chance. She was here for less than a week before we removed her from this facility. Before I get into it, let it be known that we had family visiting her on rotation during all visiting hours, sometimes even staying past visiting hours. To start off she was placed with a roommate who was not mentally stable and should not have been left unsupervised. Her roommate would stand behind my grandma's bed throughout the night, would sit down and stare at her, and would fall and drop things and my grandma is defenseless and couldn't do anything about it. She was in that room for about 4 days before we requested a room change so my grandma could feel more comfortable. To add on to that, it had been two weeks since my grandma had gotten bathed due to getting surgery. Once we arrived at the facility, they told us that they would bathe her within the first 2 days, however she ended up receiving a bath 5 days after she got there. Her surgeon had also told us that she was going to be receiving physical therapy everyday as this is a rehab clinic. She only received physical therapy 2 times in total during her 7 day stay. To continue, she was provided with a button that she could press if she needed help with anything such as medicine, pain, diaper changes or just sitting up on the bed. 90% of the time when we called for help whether it was because she was in severe pain or just to help us sit her up to eat, they would take about 30-40 minutes to respond. My grandma initially had a pressure ulcer that developed in the hospital however it was under control with ointments, and during her stay at this facility, it was only taken care of 1 time, causing it to turn dark purple. (see pictures attached) Then, she was scheduled by her surgeon to see him at 10:15 in the morning at his clinic, and when we got there we were notified that this facility had called and cancelled her appointment. This was very disappointing because we took time off work and were really looking forward to speaking to the surgeon about her progress. Last but not least, when we decided to remove her from this facility due to lack of professionalism and empathy, one of the CNAs made a comment that really stuck with us, she said "she'd be better taken care of at home". Keep in mind throughout this entire stay, my grandma was never left alone, and despite our presence, mistreatment still occurred. So if you're thinking about housing your loved one here, and you're not planning on visiting very often, please be aware of these issues before considering taking them here.

The soggiest fruit and granola ever. My aunt refused to eat it.

This place was horrible. My aunt stayed here. They only gave her water with her meals. There are no phones in the rooms. When you call the front desk to check on your loved one they rarely answer. The food was gross. I'll post a pic of her dry bland sandwich. Fruit with granola that has sat so long that it was a bowl of mush. They do have activities that are supposed to be accessible to everyone. My aunt wasn't told about them. When we let her know they didn't give her a ride there. I had specifically asked if non ambulatory patients would be able to attend. I was assured they would take her in a wheelchair. They did not. My aunt could not walk. She needed help with toileting. They left her several times sitting in her own filth for hours. Then when they finally came they made rude remarks. "Oh wow, you made quite a mess!" How embarrassing for my normally very independent aunt. I complained to the person in charge. Nothing changed. At all. Do not go here. The care is terrible.

Proof of just part of complaining.

The staff does a great job caring for the residents, with Pilar and Mary standing out in particular. Mary can be direct, but she knows her job thoroughly, runs a tight ship, and gets things done. Pilar has also provided dedicated, reliable care throughout his time here. Judging the character or competence of the staff based on appearance is completely unfair. Having tattoos or body art doesn't make anyone less capable of providing quality care. What matters is the work they do, and this team consistently shows up for the residents. The facility is consistently cleaned and well-kept. In nearly three years of regular visits, I have never seen bugs or pests in his room or any of the common areas. The staff works hard to maintain a good environment, and it shows.

Maintenance doesn't do anything right away and the men both cuss in spanish and complain all the time and assume we couldn't understand, the food looked terrible! activities was them sitting in front of a tv all day while no supervision is around, when my grandpa was there for the little time he was there he got a very bad skin condition that no dermatologist can seem to figure out and we're still trying to figure out til this day what it is, i was looking at residents and workers and they all seem to have marks all over there body, I tried to bring it to the administrator Mary's attention but she didn't seem to care and got aggressively defensive over it but i think the attitude was more because i had interrupted her conversation that didn't even sound like work with some other women who worked there, i believe pilar was their name on the tag and sonia, they're all unprofessional and cuss, gossip right in the administration office which is crazy to do in front or around visitors! i will continue to report this dump of a place until state actually goes and does some changes don't trust your family here they will come out worse or not at all i'm glad i took my grandpa out of there as fast as i could

After 23 years of abusing alcohol and not dealing with my depression, I decided to check myself in to Alo. From the initial phone consultation I knew I had made the right decision. They had a driver named Mike who met me at the airport and helped ease my mind and answered my many questions on the drive to Malibu. Once I got to the Alo detox house over looking the Pacific Ocean, I was put at ease by the friendly staff and councillors, ( many of whom had some experience with recovery themselves). This was an extremely emotional time for me as I realized I would be getting to the core of my problems with Alcohol and depression over the following month, but not once did I feel it unsafe to discuss any and all topics with the amazing staff, therapists and psychologists. At the next phase my lodging was in a giant mansion with all the amenities including a pool and 24 hour staff on call to help with any issues. There was an absolute dream team of chefs who made all types of delicious meals to suite any and all dietary restrictions. Can't say enough good things about how well I was fed throughout my stay. The daily programming covered a wide variety of courses and the group discussions were where I found some of the most comfort and solidified some great friendships with other clients. Jared and Evan have created an amazing thing down there in Malibu and I hope they are aware of the impact they've had on many lives, including mine. All I can say is thank you, from the bottom of my heart to all the staff, councillors, and therapists at Alo House. I just received my 3 month chip ( the longest duration of sobriety I've had in 23 years) and Im slowly getting my life back in order. If you are thinking about recovery, please do yourself a favour and reach out the the team at Alo House. You won't regret it!
