I cannot say enough wonderful things about Arlington's Gardens Care Center. The level of care my grandma received here was truly outstanding. She came in after a fall, hip surgery, and a serious MRSA infection, and the staff went above and beyond in every area of her recovery. They cared for her incontinence with dignity, closely managed her diabetes, and provided her with the exact medications she needed to clear up her MRSA. The physical therapy team was incredible. When my grandma first arrived, she couldn't walk at all. With their consistent support, encouragement, and expert care, they got her back on her feet--literally. Today, she is walking again, something we weren't sure would even be possible. A very special thank you goes to Lexi in Social Services. She has been the best case manager I have ever encountered. Lexi went above and beyond in every way--always on top of everything my grandma needed, attentive to her wants, and proactive about her care. She made sure nothing slipped through the cracks and gave us so much peace of mind during such a difficult time. All I can say is that I've been very critical with the care my wife is getting after a brain tumor that was removed in early April. To everyone that had a hand with helping my wife with rehabilitation we are completely amazed how far she has come ! Amazing staff and employees from the front office to the nursing and PT staff that has had a hand in her recovery. If you are looking for a Skilled nursing facility this is one of the best places in Riverside that is dedicated to helping your loved ones. This place is clean and doesn't smell and is properly equipped for patients needs and support. Social services is amazing and very helpful setting up appointments and transportation and making sure everything is in order when discharged. Amazing PT staff that actually care and strive for excellence in providing patients care and rehabilitation. Amazing kitchen staff that always go the extra mile and provide special requests if needed, oh yeah and they have an ICE CREAM shop for the patients that opens up 2 times a day for patients . As for Activities there are plenty of things to do and they are dedicated with providing patients with numerous activities everyday. My grandmother recently stayed at Arlington Gardens Care Center while recovering from a stroke and I can't say enough about the outstanding care she received. The staff treated her with compassion and respect, they made her feel not just like a patient but like family. The physical and speech therapist were patient and encouraging, we were amazed at the progress my grandmother made under their guidance. When we first toured the first thing that stood out was how clean the facility was. They keep it well maintained with a peaceful atmosphere that helped my grandmother feel safe and at ease. I honestly don't understand how this facility even received 3 Stars. If you want good care for your loved one, absolutely do not go there. My list of reasons is far too long to list. The lack of care and communication is just unacceptable. I reached out to admin, case workers, and nurses multiple times about my concerns, but to no avail. My father was there for two weeks too long, and he declined rapidly while there. Once I was finally able to get him discharged, he started to improve immediately. Such a terrible experience with this facility. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy, it was a nightmare. I feel really bad for the residents there. read more

Finding Ms. Magana by chance at our hospital was the best thing that could have happened for my mom. Mom got sick, had stopped eating completely, and was barely able to get out of bed. The hospital was going to discharge her with in-home nurse visits only and no therapy. Fortunately, I ran into Ms. Magana (Liz) in the lobby and we ended up talking about my mom's situation. She had a brochure for Arlington Gardens and told me about the facility. She was able to walk me through the process of getting Mom transferred and admitted and now Mom is getting the care she needs! The facility is clean, well-kept, and professionally run. They offer all of the services that we'll need to get mom back on her feet and fully enjoying and participating in her life again. Mom is already starting to improve and I'm so very grateful that we were able to find someone and somewhere that is turning her situation around. Thank you Liz, you're a godsend!! read more

Unfortunately my father didn't have a good experience at Arlington Gardens. Some of the staff are sweet and attentive. That said, some are not. My dad had an undiagnosed brain tumor when he was transported here. We all thought his stroke was due to a brain bleed. When we (his family) arrived a couple of days after him (due to health reasons), we were saddened to see his belongings looked like they had just been thrown on the ground. I had made him a special poster with photographs that he enjoyed looking at, and the poster was all bent and smushed in a box. No one took three minutes to put it up on the wall. His paintings were also carelessly strewn on the floor. He was half paralyzed and he is legally deaf. He couldn't see the captions on the tiny television in the room, so it was basically like having no tv at all. He must have been bored out of his mind. He told me he felt like he was in prison. They had no electric wheelchairs for stroke victims like his out of state rehab had. We were told he would get rehabilitation seven days a week. My dad kept saying he wasn't getting rehabilitation. I was skeptical because I thought they surely must have been giving him rehab. I now believe they skipped it some days because, come to find out, they do not have rehabilitation on the weekends. He told me that one day he went to rehab and the medical worker didn't use his amplification system or a whiteboard/paper/pencil. The medical worker clearly didn't understand the importance of my dad getting the chance to effectively communicate with another human being during one hour out of 24. He was locked in his own head 24/7 and couldn't communicate with people. He was paralyzed so couldn't rely on his hearing aids. He couldn't put them in. He went to the ER one evening and was diagnosed with a fatal brain tumor. We were never told about this! A few weeks later he went to another hospital due to pain and the workers at that hospital told us the previous hospital had identified a brain tumor, but we were never informed my dad had a glioblastoma. He went into a coma three days later and passed away at the second hospital. We went back to Arlington to get his things, told two workers there that he was in the ICU due to a brain tumor that Arlington told us nothing about. The two workers at Arlington took no responsibility whatsoever and simply blamed the hospital. Shouldn't they know what a patient is diagnosed with when the patient goes to the hospital? Unfortunately my father did not get the care he deserved the last month of his life. He should have been on hospice care, our family should have known what was going on with him. Arlington assumed he was just being uncooperative when he called 911 several times because he knew something wasn't right. They assumed he was being difficult. We tried every single day to get him moved to a different rehab. He had excellent insurance, but the social worker at Arlington told us no one would take him, largely in part to his habit of calling 911. (He had a brain tumor that can cause personality changes, pain, etc.) It was truly a nightmare for us and especially for my poor dad. He lost 12 pounds in a month. I would have never given the ok if I knew his care would be the way it was. As I mentioned, some of the workers there seem to care. Others do not. I wouldn't risk it with my loved one. I was able to be at the hospital the moment my dad passed away. I try to focus on that because focusing on the lack of consideration my dad received the last month of his life is too heartbreaking. read more

Our mom was in the facility and the nursing staff was terrible!! The one nurse clearly didn't like her job and should reconsider where she is working since she is working with people that are unable to help themselves. She has zero compassion or personality. Summer should consider going back to school and remember why she became a nurse in the first place. My mother, Isabel was a patient at your facility from July 11, 2023 to October 4, 2023. I wanted to take this opportunity to express our gratitude for the excellent care my mother received. You facility is very clean and nicely decorated. It does not appear to be a rehabilitation center, but a hotel. When I first came to tour the facility, before my mother was admitted; what impressed me the beautiful and clean smelling facility. However, what made me choose Arlington Gardens for my mother was Lis (RN). She answered all of my questions (and I had a lot), showed me the entire facility. I was so impressed with her, her knowledge and patience, I knew this was the place for my mother. Your staff is amazing. They truly make Arlington Gardens what it is. They are patient, caring, loving and compassionate. They are extremely sensitive to the patients need. I want to name some of those exceptional employees: Beatriz, Antonieta, Wesley, Carlos, Franklin, Laura, NayNay, Shelly, Sonia ??(lvn) Lis, (from pt) Bleu, Stephanie, Connie, Jill, Andrea, Maria, Carrie, Cesar, Tim, Sam and Rea. Both of my parents stayed at this facility for a few weeks around the same time. My Mom had a Mastectomy Surgery and my Dad had a Stroke and they were both weak and a fall risk on recovery. I just wanted to mention how pleased I was with everyone working there. So many people to name that I want to acknowledge from Administration, Social Services, Business Office, Activities, The Doctors, Physical Therapists, the clean up crew and ALL the wonderful Nurses. You know who you are. Great Staff!! My parents were very comfortable and they enjoyed their time there. I was worried how vulnerable they were when they arrived and how much stronger they are when I took them both home. I feel like everyone that works at Arlington Gardens Care Center went above and beyond for both of my parents and show so much care and respect to all the patients there. I visit my parents at least every other day while they were there and everyone is very professional. I definitely recommend this place for anyone that will stay there. They will be in good hands. I've always had great service at the center. But between my last visit in February to now in May 2024 it has declined. They had a change over in ownership and it shows. Not enough staff for each wing to help patients with. I'm doing better but am having to wait up to an hour to receive help. Not saying they don't care but I'm independent so I don't need as much help as the ones who do but that is because of staff shortage. Food and physical and occupational therapy are great. No complaints. Having hard time getting discharged. Been able to leave 6 days ago but they can't get a hold of the doctor to release me. It's very frustrating Lack of staff and getting discharged are my only complaints. That's why I gave them a 4 star review. read more

As an employee of Arlington gardens I was fortunate to have my grandma as a patient. Not only if this place an amazing place to work, but what a blessing to have my grandma get rehab here! The care staff made such a great connection with my grandma, she still talks about all of them. The rehab team makes miracles happen! They are so great at what they do. The case management team is very resourceful and help families even after discharge. I recommend this place to anyone who needs rehab and anyone who is looking for a job. My father is there right now. I asked 4 days ago for him to be shaved. He faced time me tonight and said he was dying in there. He said that to me with an unshaven face. This is a Kaiser Permanente low-cost contracted care center without the care. One expects from Kaiser to contract proper care for their insurer to recover when they enter such a care center. One expects to get a reasonable meal. One expects after working for the LAPD for 30 years that city officials would investigate such miss behavior in the insurance industry. I have worked in the hospitality sector all my life and I can tell you the dietitian and cooks here should be arrested for elder abuse. They have zero training on taste and quality, and I doubt they eat their own cooking. Yes, your food is JUNK. I'm sure they are just following the facility's guidelines laid out by the owner. read more

My 88 year old Mom was here for several weeks and it was truly a nightmare. She was there to regain her strength , but she was being fed peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, which I don't consider to be nutritious. They were so late administering her meds on several occasions that her BP went seriously high. She called me in a panic and I had to contact the administrator to get her the meds she needed. One day they were moving her to another part of the facility and they put her in a wheelchair and forgot about her. She sat in that wheelchair for FOUR HOURS calling for help and finally wheeled herself to find help. We moved her to a Board and Care where she is now getting the help she needed and she is rapidly improving. She's gained ten pounds in three weeks, her BP is steady, and her mind is clear. Arlington Gardens was a huge set back for her and not some place I recommend. read more

This facility killed our mother. Went in for rehab after a broken hip. Left 15 days later in an ambulance due to severe dehydration and was septic due to a bladder infection. Several large bed sores as well. They left my mom in a bed and completely neglected her. Daily phone calls from the nursing staff assured us daily of how well she was doing. read more

My mom was here for about a month after hip replacement surgery. I'll admit I was a bit worried about her staying here after reading some of the reviews but it actually was pleasant stay for my mom. Physical therapy is offered based on what insurance covers. My mom would receive PT & OT for about an hour each day. During her stay she was put in 2 different rooms, each with a roommate. My mom was happy, except when they gave her male nurses for bathroom assistance but she promptly requested female nurses & her request was accepted. Lots of young & attractive nurses. I remember seeing one taking selfies in the hall. I'm not sure how well the care was or if my mom just didn't want to complain or be home but the nurses seemed good for the most part. Some are students. Lastly, the food sucks. Fruit never seemed fresh & we could never figure out if the yellow sweet stuff was pudding or mushy cheese cake. One day my mom was served potato salad & coleslaw for dinner. read more

I was really impressed with the caring staff. I forgot my phone in the room and stepped back in when caregivers were getting my mother-in-law ready for the day. She struggles with dementia and has difficulty communicating, but they were still giving her a choice of which one of 3 different pairs of pants she wanted to wear. There is such dignity in having choice and being consulted. She is very frail, and they are so gentle with her. They are very kind about giving her medicines too. One day she just could not swallow pills so they found strawberry yogurt to mix her meds in which was a big hit. The facility is very clean and well laid out. They offer ice water and lemonade for guests free of charge. read more

I am going to set the scene. My mom had back surgery and was in a Rehab Facility in Fountain Valley at the same time my dad (they are divorced) had a stroke and required emergency surgery on a 100% blockage of his left Carotid artery. After the surgery at Kaiser Riverside my dad needed to go to a Rehabilitation Facility to get stronger because he lost the use of his right side from the stroke. Kaiser first sent us to a Rehab Facility that I won't mention. The first rehab facility had my dad doing his physical therapy with no safety socks or tennis shoes on amongst other unsafe activities for a man who couldn't feel his right side. This is where Valerie, Wanda and Alexis come in at Arlington Gardens Riverside. I contacted Valerie and I explained that my mom was already in a facility in Orange County and I needed my dad to be in a safe environment and receive PT, OT and great CNA service! Within hours Valerie had my dad transported to their facility and at last I could breathe a sigh of relief knowing my dad was in an amazing facility because of their amazing employees. My dad had a rough first night at Arlington Gardens, he was confused, lost, scared and flat out having a anxiety attack. I was able to contact Valerie (after hours) and she contacted Wanda and Wanda went into my father's room and she put him in his wheel chair and she walked him around, oriented him with the facility and even bought him a Coke. This immediately calmed his nerves and he felt a lot safer. The next month the staff at Arlington Gardens did an amazing job with my dad. Anytime we had a question or a concern they were on it and either explained it or resolved our concern. My dad's physical therapy team did an amazing job. Stephanie in PT was so great with my dad and he was always looking forward to getting stronger and stronger each day! Yesterday, Saturday my dad came home from Arlington Gardens! He is strong and will be getting stronger every day! He wouldn't be where he is today if it wasn't for the facility and it's staff caring for and pushing him towards his recovery! This facility did not respond to my concerns and messages about the flowers sent to a family member that were not received. The front desk gentleman on duty, took them at the door and that was the last time they were seen. These patients are often sick, disabled or elderly and the lack of ethics and compassion by any staff member is unacceptable. I questioned the florist, they said this was common at this facility. read more

My Mom was here for 2 months. After making zero progress & effort, she had to be moved to a skilled nursing facility. After a long, complicated history w/my Mom, followed by an estrangement, we reestablished our connection during her 2nd month at Arlington Gardens, in order be the BEST advocate I could on her behalf. I worked HARD to make sure her needs were met, which didn't endear me to the staff. Like some of the other reviews on here, it would be sometimes an hour after buzzing before someone would come to give her a pain pill, change her, etc. Then I'd make a polite call on her behalf to the nurses station. I'm not going say she was the BEST patient; like many she could be difficult at times & was indeed uncooperative about PT or being handled too briskly because of her pain. I understand WHY she had to be moved to another facility - I don't fault them for THAT. What I DO fault them for is the MANNER & TIMING. I wrote an Email to the Adminstrator @ AG after an unpleasant morning in which my Mom was SUPPOSED to be ready at a specific time & IN her wheelchair for a doctor's appointment @RMC. All of which was arranged DAYS in advance. What happened instead was an unnecessarily stressful mad-dash getting her to her appointment. Not only was she NOT ready (she was still in bed), the van transportation service we hired was also 25 minutes late. Even though that is a significant tardy time, they STILL had to wait on the staff to get a hoyer lift & get my Mom into her chair. They cited being short-staffed that day. Even though that may be true, I nonetheless let them know that they being short-staffed is NOT the patients problem; she should have been ready. I even offered to help. Her urine bag had also not been changed. The waft of stale urine was prominent when we were out to her appointment. A few working days after I sent my complaint, I get a call from someone at a care facility in HIGHLAND late in the day. Someone I didn't know who informed me my Mom would be moving THE NEXT DAY to the Highland facility after a bed "suddenly became available". This was the 1st I'd heard about it, and her care manager/case worker at Arlington Gardens was too chicken sh** to call me herself. We had to hear about it from a stranger. Did they TRY to find one closer before deciding to transfer her to THEIR sister facility an hour away? For US it all happened so quickly that we had no time to think about options as we were busy getting my Mom packed & keeping her positive. I'm GOOD to the people who care for my Mom; giving gift cards, writing notes of thanks and giving a bowl of candy to the nurses station on Halloween, & that certainly doesn't entitle myself or my Mom to special treatment, but EVERYONE IS entitled to the courtesy we did not recieve from AG I did everything right; I got involved, I asked questions, which they didn't like, especially the case workers, who deem themselves too busy to deal w/a caring family member. I became my Mom's Power Of Attorney & made calls on her behalf. I did what I was SUPPOSED to. If SHE had a problem/need that wasn't being addressed or met, then I did too. Good luck getting a call back in a timely manner. There are people there who DO go out of their way to be helpful, such as Norma in Medical Records, head nurse Tanika, CNA Vanessa, Nutritionist Marie & another CNA whose name I can't recall but it begins with a K (a very sweet and conscientious female nurse, African American, looks to be in her 20's, with long braids who usually wears a scarf). These people are all very kind & I appreciate all they did. There is a nurse there who distributes meds who is NOT one of those kind people. She is a nasty, disagreeable BULLY who takes unpleasantness to a whole new level and has no business working around ANYONE, moreless elderly. The executives there SAY their door is "always open". I quickly found out they really DON'T want to be bothered. Don't worry, you're finally rid of the daughter who had the audacity to care. You don't have to hide or briskly scurry inside your office. Just don't be TOO GOOD to your ailing parent or you'll be punished for it. Even though the drive to Highland is indeed a long one, I take comfort that my Mom is not only happier there, but is receiving consistent, good care. **EDIT: I was asked in a response by the Administrator (see below) to remove employees names, and so to avoid a potential libel lawsuit, I did. I want to be clear that's the ONLY reason I deleted their names from my review, which I still stand by. They know who they are. I ASSUME the names I spoke HIGHLY of in my review can stay.
