This is one place we go to bring our dogs out for a fun day. They get to see and meet all kinds of dogs from small breed to large breeds. They have so much fun running along the beach next to me or with some other dogs. The beach is close to neighboring houses in Coronado. Wonderful dog beach! There's a walkway to get to the water so your feet don't get too hot on the sand! It's right next to the Navy base so there's always a bunch of planes landing, but it's fun to watch them while your dog runs around. Compared to other dog beaches, this place has a human-vibe... meaning there are a lot of humans here enjoying the beach all day (with food, tents, umbrellas, etc) and they just have happened to bring their dog! At some of the other dog beaches I go to, I tend to come and go within 45min-hour. This place, I come and stay for a few hours. The parking is a little complicated in the neighborhood next door, but you'll get the hang of it after a couple visits. read more

I'm so glad this place exists. it's very cleaned and well maintained! Parking might be a bit off a problem especially on the weekends but it's manageable. this beach is one of not so many that allow off leash play. Took our 2 year old Corgi here today, I'm impressed of how clean it was. Parking is difficult, we got lucky to find a spot on the side because one is leaving the park. Plenty of dogs out here, I loved that everyone is kind of doing their own thing. In addition, parking is far where the dog beach is located at. A bit of a walk before you reach the water. Best Dog Beach in SD hands down! I know theirs a few in SD but this one in my opinion is the best. The actual beach for the people is right next door so you can bring the family & your little buddy & take him for a swim & stroll next door. Parking is ok, you might have to drive a bit on weekends to find parking. Beach is always clean with a life guard next door. It's never crazy packed which I like & for the most part everyone is friendly, responsible & so are the dogs. Bring the kiddies to pet the dogs or just lay down & have a picnic & get some sun with your dog. And for you single men out there if you go toward the end of the beach by the fence you'll fine the young thin ladies in little bikinis tanning with their little poodles. So borrow a cute little Yorkie from your sister (or me I own 2) & go over there & tell them your a vegetarian & volunteer at Children hospitals as you hold your Yorkie that you saved from a shelter, these SD girls dig all that. And that my friends is your tip for this review :). Also they have baggies right when you come in for your dogs but still bring some just in case. They also have a little shower area for your dogs & you when your about to leave. My Golden Retriever & other doggies love it here & so do I! If your lucky sometimes you see dolphins. This has to be my favorite dog beach in San Diego. Nice drive over the bridge to get to it. Most of the dogs are good! Some get a little agressive, especially when they can't catch Cako. Some of the owners are friendly....some are odd (and you know what I'm talking about). The dog area is about a half mile long. There is a fence that separates it from the military base. It's not uncommon to see runners coming from the hotel side toward the fence. The amusing thing is when dogs get in their way and they look annoyed. "HELLOOOOO, it's a dog beach idiot!" On a good day, it's crowded! I like going on cloudy days since there's not that many people. Some of the milder winter months are good too. Overall, this is one of the better beach areas in San Diego. No bathrooms, but there's a place to rinse off your dog. Also, you need to be careful not to walk your dog across Sunset Park. You may get a ticket, or someone will yell at you. They want to keep it pee and poop free! Cako Approves! read more

I didn't know that walking my pup in the water while attempting to play with other dogs would be triggering to some people. As others mentioned, there is a hose available to rinse your dog off before leaving - fantastic feature!! I went on a cloudy Wednesday, arriving around 1PM. Parking on the street was easy as there were plenty of spaces. Note that the entrance is right next to a Marine base entrance. There is a really nice green grass field on the opposite side of the street. I was a little surprised the dog Park area wasn't fenced in, but it wasn't a problem for us. I really liked that the had a mesh walkway out to the Beach from the road. I have never seen anything like it. There were plenty well-stocked stations w bags available for doggie waste disposal. The beach itself was clean and i didn't see any trash. There were maybe 20 people there with their dogs when i arrived, probably twice that many when i left. We stayed about 2 hours playing frisbee and chuck-it fetch. It seemed like all the other dog owners were being responsible and respectful. I didn't have issues in that department. It's about 30 minutes away, but I plan to visit every couple of months. I would go more often, but I have to give my dog a bath after any outing like this, since she is an indoor dog. read more

Lovely sunset with dogs. Everybody is super friendly. Dogs can play and swim. Amazed how many dogs are here. Just be sure to pick up after your dog please :) There is a walking road from the parking to the beach so you don't have to battle with sand :) Everyone is welcomed. read more

Coronado Dog Beach is within view of the famous Hotel Del Coronado, located a ways down the beach right next to the Navy Base and across the street from a tiny grassy park and beautiful private residences. You can park your car anywhere on the street, next to the park or in front of the beautiful houses around the park. We arrived around noon on a Friday and there were a handful of parking spaces available. We clearly saw the signs directing us to the appropriate area to enter the beach with our pooch. They have a dog wash area and water fountain at the entrance of the beach. I estimate it is a walk of about 500 feet on sand before you reach the area on the beach where you are allowed to remove your pet's leash. We saw a few stations along the way where you can get bags to pick-up after your dog. I didn't see the bag stations on the beach though so pick one up on your way in. Once on the shore, there were a large amount of dogs and owners playing and relaxing. Dogs were having a great time running off-leash. Everyone was friendly and the dogs were having a great time socializing, swimming, and running. There is one lifeguard station but it was unmanned. I wish we brought a blanket to sit on and umbrella for shade but most people were just there walking their dogs and not hanging out. Fun fact: The aircraft coming into the Navy base airport next door was really interesting to watch. They came in low and you could really get a good look at the different aircraft. read more

I ADORE this beach. I could sit down and just watch the sun, waves, and the multitudes of dogs frolic and catch a ball or frisbee. Because of places like this, my "child", Micky, all 4 1/2 years of him, can enjoy a world that is blue sky, grey sand, and playful waves--a far cry from city pavement and the day-to-day drudgery of his Mom working 9-6 (but it's the daily work that affords nice trips like this!). The saying is true for me at least--I work hard so my dog can live the best life LoL Coronado is such a magnificent town. I can't stand the traffic and the narrow streets. But small sacrifice for one of the best, if not the best doggie beaches in San Diego. read more

Pawsome spot for your dog! I'm from Vegas, so my dogs are newbies. I was amazed at how clean the beach was compared to others I've gone to. The rubber pathway leading to the beach made it easy to walk down to the water. My dog's paws appreciated it also since it was a hot day. The beach is stocked with plenty of trash cans and doggie poop bags. We went around 5 pm. It took us about 5 minutes before we found a parking spot in one of the side streets, but overall it wasn't too bad. Friendly dogs and a great place I would love to revisit! read more

It's Christmas all year round for doggies who get to adventure here with their humans! I mean, does it get any better than a dog beach for your pup? Coronado Dog Beach is one of my preferred dog beaches in SoCal. It's clean. The dogs are sane for the most part. The tide is low, the water is clear, the sand is nice...and golden...and glitters under the clear water. These all make for a frolicky fun time at the beach for your pooch. I like that there isn't a monstrosity of a parking lot nearby, rather it's more or less residential parking. It's truly quaint and peaceful, and does island living justice. I also like that there's a hose at the exit/entrance to wash down your sandy puppy. Don't forget to bring tons of towels! I've been coming here for years and it's always clean and dogs and owners are pretty well behaved. It's a long stretch of beach with more than enough room for your dog to race freely. My dog always wants to go right up to the fence that borders the Navy Base because she thinks the "grass must be greener on the other side!" The best thing is that they have a hose to try and clean the sand off you and your pup. The people are always friendly here and nobody gets upset when your dog tries to sniff into someone's beach bag looking for treats. I especially love it on a weekday when it's a bit less crowded than the weekends. read more

This is a really beautiful beach, although parking isn't as convenient as Ocean Beach Dog Beach, or Fiesta Island. Clean and well maintained, at the end of the road before the base. The only thing to consider is if your pup is comfortable with loud noises, as sometimes the military planes fly overhead/nearby and can be overwhelming for anxious doggos. This "landmark" is worth checking out, but not my preferred go-to since I'm not local to Coronado and it's a bit out of the way. read more

This place is complicated. First time I was here everyone was playing with their dog 1-on-1. Then I got advice to just let my dog free and he really enjoys the place. Today there were chill owners that let my pup run free with their dogs, and he had a blast. The beach area is huge and very delineated as to where your dog cannot go but never a problem. There are a ton of dog bag dispensaries on the way to and from the beach. I thought I was going to have to confront a person that wasn't going to pickup their dog's poop and they just didn't have a bag and asked around and got one. Most people really do care about keeping this place nice. There was one dog "fight" but the owners came to separate it super quick and I didn't think anything of it and wouldn't be bothered had it been my dog, just growling, barking, and a small tussle. read more

Love this dog beach! Dog Beach area is located in a great clean location (street parking only) . There's a large grass area and small park right besides the beach street. There's a water station to wash your pup down. 4 Shower stations and 2 restroom stalls per each gender. Beach was pretty clean. Most owners were in complete control of their dog and were extremely polite and courteous. Life guards on duty as well. Definitely returning. read more

Just about every beach along the California coast is beautiful and the Coronado Dog Beach is no exception! This area is specially provided for the sole purpose of giving our beloved canine companions a place to play, release energy, socialize with other dogs and enjoy the relaxing views of the ocean waves with their owners. I observed a large number of dogs of so many breeds, sizes and colors just having the time of their lives while their owners stood nearby talking with pride to other owners about their pets. You could see a lot of enjoyment and entertainment on the faces of humans as the dogs ran about in the sand, chasing other dogs, playing with toys and swimming in the ocean. My nephew brings his rambunctious puppy here frequently and apparently it's one of his favorite places to play and wear himself out. The beach is of course very scenic and a great place for anyone who loves animals to hang out. There is plenty of beach for everyone to commune with others or keep to themselves. My experience here was very positive. The people and dogs were friendly and the weather in San Diego was warm yet comfortable to enjoy the beautiful day. Just keep in mind that even though this place is like a dream come true for most dogs, you just can't guarantee the behavior of each and every dog. I love Coronado. It's my favorite beach in San Diego because it's clean. It was a little chilly out... I was hoping to still get a tan. There was a good amount of people with their dogs, families & friends out today. We saw some families digging for clams. I remembered my family use to come out to Coronado to get clams by digging the heel of your foot into the sand. Then you'll feel the hard shell, dig it out and viola you got yourself a jumbo clam. So my friends and I when out to the water to try my families' technique and whadyaknow Georgie Porgie got a clam haha. He ended up giving it to the family since we weren't going to eat it. Coronado is perfect to just relax, have bonfires, play volleyball, football, body board, swim, build sand castles, play with your dogs etc. Parking isn't too bad. It's walking distance from the residential area. It also has a nice view of the skyline. I love SD. read more

Our pup loved it here. It was her first exposure to the beach and it seemed as she's a regular. The beach is segregated from the regular Beach by a little creek on 1 side and fencing on the other. It's pretty large and spacious, with at least 50 yards of sand to the water. There were plenty of dogs frolicking in the water with most off leash. We were reluctant at first and decided to let her roam and she was so excited. The dogs all played well together. We also love the hose at the entrance to rinse the dogs off. That was so useful. Do all dog beaches have hoses? The only negative is the parking. It's really a pain to find street parking but you just have to be patient. read more

Very clean and at a beautiful location. On Sunny weekends it's a little hard to find parking because it's all street parking. Also, there is a little bit of a trek down a sandy road to get to the beach so be aware it's not like OB where it's right on the other side of the parking lot. Also, you have to keep your dog on the leash until you get the beach, if you don't and you get caught it's a $500 fine (which would suck) But, with that it's a little more secluded which makes it really nice. Also, down the way there is a little water shower to rinse off your dog which is really nice. read more

Great spot to let your dog run around off leash and burn off some energy with lots of new friends. Parking fills up quickly- on Sunday we still saw plenty of parking at 0815 but not a lot by 0930. There is a water fountain with human and pup drinking spouts in addition to an attached hose for your pup (or children...) to wash off the sand post adventures. There are lots of trash cans (recycling and other) around the beach and dog baggies are stocked in the walk up to the beach. You'll see a sign with the layout of the land as you approach the off leash area. Owners seem to do a great job monitoring their pups and cleaning up after them. Will definitely return! read more

Wanna spend a fun day at the beach and away from other people during the crazy pandemic? Go to Coronado's Dog Beach! We brought our wagon, ice chest, beach umbrella, and just camped out there. You can watch 200 or 300 dogs play in the water and along the sand! What a sight to see. Bathrooms can be a mighty walk. They also have a walking ramp which makes it easier on our feet during hot sunny days. However, people there are nice and friendly and are super conscious about social distancing. read more

Hands down the best dog beach in San Diego! Parking: Never really had an issue with parking for this beach which makes it my favorite place to go. I usually find parking up front along Ocean Blvd all the way near the entrance to the Marine Base. If you can't find parking there just try driving down Beach Blvd the other way and park along Marina Ave. Cleanliness: People seem to pick up after their dogs pretty well here which I appreciate very much. There a lot of poop bag dispensers and water fountains for the dogs. There's even a wash area to clean your feet or your dirty dogs after they splash around in the water. Dogs are relatively friendly here - never had any issues and owners are usually attentive based on my experience here. Great place to socialize your dog for any new dog owners out there! This is by far my dog and I's favorite spot to enjoy a nice day under the San Diego sun. read more
