This is my favorite dog beach ever! I love taking my little jack russell mix here and he is always super excited and eager to get out of the car when we are looking for parking. Parking is actually pretty easy to find. When you start walking towards the entry/exit walkway to/from the dog beach, you'll see a water fountain and a hose that you'll want to use to wash the sand off your dog after he/she has had some fun! So useful and not every dog beach has this. They also added a runway mat that you can walk on to get to and from the beach. It's very convenient because walking on the fluffy sand can be tiring. I haven't had a problem with any dogs or owners at this beach. My dog would always want to play with the big dogs or chase after them. I just love seeing him run around so happy! I recommend this beach to everyone. read more

Absolutely love this beach. My dog overly enjoys it. We come here and he immediately throws himself into the sand and then chases us into the water. My only issue is that some people let their dogs shit in the water and don't remove it and the lifeguards don't say anything about that. What a gem of a place! We actually stumbled upon this place during an impromptu visit to Coronado. Having parked on a residential street behind Orange, we decided to stroll the darling neighborhood with our dog. We saw a sign for Coronado Dog Beach and decided to follow it. It was a bit of a walk, especially once we reached the coastline, but it was a nice day. The dog beach has only one path to access it, so it's busy, but it's also makes the area more secure, so your pooch doesn't run off into the road. Dogs of all shapes and sizes were running, lounging, bathing. We kept Bitsy on a leash as she's a little skittish (fine I'm skittish about her not being on a leash too), until we reached the end of the dog beach, where it's fenced off for military purposes. There were less people here and I took Bitsy off her leash and she loosened up and explored a little bit. The beach is clean, didn't see any poop, and didn't have any altercations with any dog (or owner). Will definitely be back! read more

My favorite dog beach in all of San Diego and yes I think it's so much better than Fiesta Island! Since I started going here regularly a few months ago, there have already been minor improvements that have made my experience here so much better. I've never had issues with the street parking here. The beach is pretty clean with doggie bag dispensers. They recently added a path to make it easier for everyone to walk in and out of the beach without it being a workout. At the exit, there's a nice little hose/fountain area to wash off the excess sand from you and your pups. Haven't had any problems with any of the dogs. People are mindful of their pets and the space isn't too big where they are able to lose sight of their dogs like Fiesta Island is. I am more likely to come back here than any other off leash dog beach/dog park. read more

Drinking fountains and showers are available at entrance and the park has added a safety walkway since I last visited. Small - Large breeds are free to roam around and play to their hearts end. It is free, it is fun, always lots of people and pets. If you're in the area definitely something you should try, but again, parking is the pits. read more

A gloomy day didn't hold us back from going to the dog beach, and thankfully it didn't hold back other doggies either. 61 degrees and cloudy and there were still a good handful of dogs at this beach. This beach is bigger and more open than Ocean Beach. It's a little bit of a trek to get to the actual beach and dogs need to be on leash until there. Parking is street parking only and can be a little more difficult to find a spot. The naval base is right next to the beach, so lots of jets fly overhead. Also be careful to not overshoot the beach cause you'll end up at the naval entrance and be greeted with a guard with a machine gun. read more

The first dog beach my furkid has ever gone to ! I may have taken her here when she was way too young (less than 4 months, guilty owner I am!), but she loved the water on her very first outing and has loved it ever since! Actually the closest dog beach to me since I can just take the strip up from IB and traverse through Silver Strand. Awesome beach with spectacular views! I wouldn't say it's the cleanest - the water and sand - but still something I can overlook since there's always a great crowd here - dogs and people alike! A feature I like about this dog beach is the water hose at the entrance near the street. There is only one though, so expect a line to form on busy weekends. One thing I dislike about this beach is the long walk on the sand path to the off leash area from the street. Your dogs must remain on leash in this section and it's very annoying especially on a warm day when the sand gets burning hot! Tread lightly on the ice plant instead or bring some shoes for your dog so they don't burn their pads! If my feet are on fire walking on it, I can only imagine how their pads feel. read more

My all-time favorite dog beach in San Diego! I always have such a good time whenever I visit. I usually come on the weekends, either in the late mornings or late afternoons (depending on the weather) and there's a nice crowd there every time. It's located at the very end of Coronado beach at the end opposite of the hotel. The entrance is a walkway along the sidewalk at the roundabout. There's a little water station there too for when your dogs have reached the end of their beach day and are ready to be hosed down. There's plenty of space for running around and throwing balls and toys. Happy dogs everywhere :) Be aware that the dog beach isn't fenced off from the rest of the beach so make sure you trust that your dog(s) won't run off! read more

I loved this beach! We came on. Friday evening around 6 and stayed for an hour and a half. It's big, clean, not overly crowded, and very chill. No crazy dog fights or lazy ppl not picking up after their dogs. There was a lot of seaweed but that might be seasonal. Waters were calm too which is nice for the timid dogs. There are poop baggies at the entrance so if you forgot them or ran out... you're in luck! I've lived in San Diego for 46 years and only recently did I find out that there was a dog beach on Coronado. I've had dogs before but thought that the Ocean Beach dog beach was the only one near by. I had taken my Vizsla to Fiesta Island because there is a Vizsla Meetup group that meets there once a month. Well, even though my puppy only picked up a couple of pieces of kelp to play with and didn't actually go in the water,that was all in took to give him a serious gastrointestinal infection. Bloody diarrhea and all. It seriously scared the crap out of me. Even though he'd had all of his shots, I thought it was Parvo. A $200 vet visit later indicated it was likely something he had picked up from the not-so-fresh water at Fiesta Island. My puppy recovered just fine with the help of some antibiotics, but NOT wanting to go through THAT again, I wanted to find a leash-free beach my Vizsla could go to that was safe for him and us, close by and where the ocean activity was a bit more vigorous than Fiesta Island. Coronado Dog Beach filled the bill perfectly. Well behaved dogs and owners, plenty of active rolling waves, even a faucet and hose to rinse off you and your dog before getting back in the car. The parking can be a bit dicey, but be patient and someone is sure to be leaving not long after you arrive. We've been several times now (at least twice a week) and have never had to park more than 1/2 a block away from the entrance. If you time it just right, you may even be treated to the U. S. Navy pilots practicing as they fly by in their jets! read more

Dog beach is all the way down next to naval base. The location is far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the tourists near hotel del. Parking is street parking and there are usually plenty of spots. Beach is clean. If your dog is easily scared by loud noises this may not be the best place to bring your furry friend as the navy jets fly overhead and are very loud. If you're here for swimming or to let your dog swim be aware that this beach tends to have a lot of rip currents and often times swimming is not allowed. The lifeguards will drive up and down the beach with the microphone telling people to get out of the water. The beach is beautiful but if you're looking for a place to nap on the beach you'll probably take turns getting woken up by the lifeguards and the navy jets. The last time I was here the water to rinse off outside was not on (maybe due to the drought?) read more

Dog Heaven and my Happy Place. Beach area Is very clean. There is a grassy area on your walk from the parking to the beach itself, which means most dogs will poop/pee there instead of by the water. Also lots of free poop bags, garbage cans and considerate owners who pick up after their dogs. This area is also where the hose is located, for washing off sandy/wet doggies. Not too many clumps of seaweed when I was there, but this is seasonal I also went on Saturday at 10 am and street parking was not that bad at all, yes u have to walk maybe 5 min tops, but the street parking is clear and not busy. If u go before 10 am or weekday you will be able to park right up front. The beach itself was also not terribly busy on a December Saturday morning. This was my first time taking my 7 mo old terrier mutt puppy to the dog Beach. I chose this one bc it is not as busy as ocean beach, so that way she would not get too overwhelmed. She loved it! Good amount of space to frolic. Lots of friendly dogs. Mostly med to large sized dogs. She also got to dig her heart out and the sand was coarse and clean so she didn't get super dirty after. One con, that is more relevant to small dog owners - there is a fenced off military area on the northern end of the beach. The fence has holes large enough for a small dog to go through, so keep that in mind if you have a small dog that tends to bolt and cannot be verbally recalled. But there is plenty of space that you can easily stay away from this area. Tips for locating- it is on the most western edge of Coronado beach (same beach with the famous Coronado hotel). If your GPS takes you to Coronado hotel, drive all the way to the right until u get to a cul DE sac. This is where the entrance starts, there will be a small sign and likely a bunch of people with their dogs. Across the entrance is a large open field usually filled with people playing soccer. Beach is also conveniently located by the small downtown area with shops, and casual eateries for a quick lunch, as well as a doggie wash. read more

I have been to the Coronado Beach before wasn't aware of the dog beach part until just recently when my boss told me about it after I had told him about my plans to visit San Diego towards the end of August. So a few Saturdays ago, my husband and I came with 2 of our dogs to the dog beach. We parked in a small residential street and make the long walk out to the beach. And because this is still summer time, the sand was insanely hot! My poor feet were killing me (I saw one lady with a dog with little boots on to protect his feet). Anyways, there is a bag dispenser at the beginning of the walk to the dog beach in case you did not bring any or need extras. The dog beach itself is pretty clean. And for a Saturday, there were plenty of people and their pets (probably would have been more if it wasn't so humid that weekend we were there). Our dogs seem to enjoy themselves running across the sand near the shore (sand was much cooler on my feet). We had to stop our Cocker Spaniel from rolling his body all over in the sand though because I am just not interested in taking any additional home. Make sure to bring extra towels and baby wipes to clean your dog after your visit (there is actually a shower area where you can rinse and wash your dog. We saw plenty of people waiting to use it. A lot of them came prepared and brought shampoo too). Anyways, this is a pretty nice dog beach. Owners are pretty good about picking up after their dogs. This is a really cute beach all the way at the end of Coronado beach by the naval base. A lot of dogs off leashes but they were all under control. They played with each other. They played in the water. It was super clean. I think that's more on awesome pet owners that take responsibility for their pets. Go have fun with your puppy. It's a good place to be. read more

It's not the largest space out there, but still plenty of room for my pup to run around/swim and burn out all of his energy. It's not completely fenced off, so if you have a dog that likes to run off, this is not the spot for you. Every other time I've been here there has been a pod of dolphins that swims by, which just adds the the awesomeness of this spot. Definitely recommend checking it out! read more

Loved spending a Sunday afternoon here. For the past 2 years I've been taking my dog Frankie to Ocean Beach Dog Beach simply because the location is pretty convenient / close to my house and because there are always a ton of dogs running around, so he has a great time. I took Frankie to Coronado Dog Beach for the first time earlier this month and couldn't believe it took me this long to try it out. It takes virtually the same amount of time driving, plus you have the gorgeous view of the ocean as you cross over the bridge (try not to almost crash, like I did). Plenty of bags and trash cans, and the scene is just much more mellow. The parking situation is so much less of a nightmare, and once you actually step on the beach, the sand is clean, soft, white. OB Dog Beach has sand that's really yucky and black, and I guess after a while I just got used to it. But it's time to say goodbye. New regular here! read more

We've been here a hundred times and not only is it clean and gorgeous, the people are generally friendly and there are tons of regulars so you'll get to know them and their dogs. I do have a bone to pick (pls note subtle pun) with a couple of other reviewers. Parking is only easy during non-beachy times (foggy weekdays~) otherwise, it's a bear. Also, 'bring a picnic' at your own risk...it's a dog beach! Take a sandwich out of a baggie and you'll have a couple of dozen new best friends and they won't all have great manners! My dog LOVES this place! And I really enjoy seeing him having a great time. Parking is a bit tricky but once you find a spot the fun begins. People and dogs here are really friendly. Area is well kept and there are plenty of doggie bags stations for people to pick up after their dogs. This is my favorite dog beach! It's so clean compared to other dog beaches. For the most part, people know to pick up after their dogs, and everybody's friendly. We bring our dog here, and he'll just run up and down the shore because he's so excited. The waves can get pretty big, so if your dog is not fond of waves, watch out for that. If your dog LOVES waves, then this is great for you! You can actually walk pretty far out and the water would still be at your waist when the water is still. There are poop bags at the beginning of the entrance as well as a hose for you to rinse off your dog if you need to. There is no fence, so try to keep your dog in the dog-friendly side and not cross over to the people-only side. Street parking can be bad, but we've always been able to find a spot, even if we have to walk a bit, but we don't mind the exercise. On certain days, like weekdays, the beach can be pretty empty. We've felt like we had the place to ourselves before :) This is a beach, so remember to hydrate/bring water, wear sunscreen, and expect sand to get everywhere. If you bring little kids, keep a close eye on them in case they get mowed over by running dogs. Otherwise, have fun! read more

She's still new to the whole dog beach thing (she's only 5 months old), but she really liked it here. There was enough shallow water for her to get acquainted with it, and to fetch her toy without having to swim out to get it. The place was packed (what do you expect on such a gorgeous weekend), but I felt like it was long enough to fit everyone and their pups. For the most part people were cool, but listen... If you are going to a DOG beach, do you really think you can just lay there and sunbathe peacefully while you are surrounded by dogs whose main purpose of going there is to run around, get wet, and let loose? If my dog comes running up to you, Mr. Sunbathing douche, please don't get offended - YOU ARE AT A DOG BEACH. You are more than welcome to head south a few yards to where the dog beach ends, and the people-only beach begins... Seriously... Overall, a wonderful, beautiful time - highly recommend. Great dog beach! We never had issues finding parking since it's at the very end of the road away from the busier beaches. We are on vacation with our dog and he has loved coming here multiple times so far. There's a hose at the entrance so that's nice and so far it never seemed too crowded, either. My little weiner dog and I LOVE this place. He really, really loves it. If you ever want to see a happy dog get even happier, get out his beach bag with his lifejacket and ocean toy. Then try not to let him hurl you down the stairs to the car while he runs and squeals in excitement! :D There is plenty of parking, only when it's a summer holiday weekend do I ever have to park a couple blocks away. People are friendly, and dogs are well-behaved. It's clean and beautiful. We tried the OB Dog Beach a few times, but even though this dog beach takes me a few extra minutes to get to, it's time well spent. My dog is too little for the potholes and little rip currents at OB, but the Coronado dog beach has just the right beach break for him. We are here at least once a week! I see dolphins playing in the surf here pretty regularly, and I like all the military aircraft that fly over all the time. God bless America! :D read more

There were plenty of dogs to run around with and all the people were chill. Parking here is absolutely a pain in the rear. You have to find parking somewhere on the street in the area nearby. Max learned the hard way not to drink the salt water as he promptly emptied himself form both ends on the beach... everyone was scared, women and children were running and crying in fear (just kidding) but seriously... that part was not a pretty sight. So... don't let your dog drink too much of the salt water... :D Some choose to learn the hard way I guess. read more
