It's time for this place to go away. Their service is slow and inattentive, product mix is incredibly limited and prices are double than what you pay at a big box. Stopped by this morning for 3 items. They only had 1 of the 3 things I needed. Then it took me 10 minutes to checkout because there was only 1 person at the checkout counter, who left to walk out back to help another customer. Meanwhile there are at least 3 to 4 other workers standing around playing grab ass. In retail you need to win on: Price, product or customer service. If you have none of this to offer it's probably time to close your business! read more

Phil and staff are excellent always ready to assist! A great selection and honestly they have just about everything you need and even stuff you thought you don't need but want it anyway. I have been coming here for years and they have always had what I needed, without having to leave the island. They have a small selection of almost anything you need, home improvement wise. The employees know their store inside and out. Not only do they have the basic home improvement items, but they also have anything you might need for beach convenience. This is an old fashioned hardware store in Coronado. The prices are based on conveinence so if you're looking for the best prices, go elsewhere. I purchased 5 sliding glass doors exactly 10 years ago from Coronado Hardware. One had a problem. They came immediately, contacted the manufacturer immediately and the door was replaced within a week. This is the way service providers should be and never are anymore. It was the easiest warentee that I have ever had. I learned a valuable lesson and I will always use Coronado Hardware in the future for all my window and door replacement needs. read more

Where the funks do you find a sled to use in the snow for Big Bear Mountain in San Diego? Here!! We'll technically. They're affiliated with doitbest.com you order stuff on their website and it ships free to this store. And that website has a bunch of stuff. I bought two large 48" plastic sleds online for $7.98 each and picked them up the other day, painlessly. This is a cute store with cool stuff. It's the kind of store where you find things you didn't realize you needed or didn't know existed (lots of knick knacks!). It feels like you've stepped back in time shopping at a mom and pop store before there was such things as huge megastores like Home Depot, Wal*Mart, etc. etc. The man who helped me was friendly also. read more

If he told me his name, I forgot it, but the gentleman who helped my husband and me was VERY NICE, WELCOMING, and HELPFUL. He's an older gentleman who said that he was born & grew up in Coronado. I wanted to stay in the store for hours (SO MANY CUTE THINGS aside from the hardware, glass & paint!!), but my husband, 2 children & niece were ready to go after about 1-1/2 hours. This place is great! I'm all about lining the pockets of the local business owner versus the national companies like Wal-Mart and Home Depot. Coronado Hardware has everything you need! Go in there with plenty of time to shop around though. They do have everything, but sometimes it'll be in the last place you'd look! It's not that big of a place, but they pack it in with pretty much everything you'll need hardware wise. They've always treated me well; a few times going waaay above and beyond simply "helping out the customer." They'll continue to get my business based off of that alone. They're helpful, interested in making sure you have whatever you want/need before you leave their store. The staff, selection, and prices are all good in my book. I have never encountered such rudeness from a retail store due to my gender. Even though I was in line first, they waited on customers who were familiar to them ahead of me. Like I did not exist. And because they were not knowledgable about the item I needed plumbing fittings for, they told me I did not know what I was talking about. When I went to Village Hardware, they had no problem understanding me and providing me with everything i needed. (Because I am a female, I don't know how to repair things?) read more

A Coronado-fied hardware store...meaning high prices and a lot of home decor. I love having this place on the island, but it's really just for those times you don't want to take the time and effort to drive to Home Depot, Lowes, TJ Maxx or Marshalls. Don't get me wrong...I'm a HUGE fan of small business. In fact, I'm quite anti-chain. But, you have to be careful at this one...I got really lazy one day and bought a terra cotta pot here. Two days later - in an off-island store - there it was for $14 less! Ouch. Stick with the regular hardware items (or paint...they have a lot of paint), but get your pots and home decor elsewhere. Great little hometown hardware shop. They don't always have everything I am searching for, but they have most of it, and are the nicest folks! We were recently in the store, and my toddler son (who is obsessed with garbage trucks) spotted a mini EDCO garbage bin on the counter. It was a little miniature thing that looked just like our own garbage bins but stood about 4 or 5 inches tall. My husband wanted to buy it, but the folks behind the counter said it wasn't for sale. Instead they just gave it to us and said "enjoy it"! How sweet is that? Gotta love the hometown feel and service! Good People! read more

So, I decided to stop by this hardware store before heading to the dog beach. They didn't have the beach tent I was hoping for, but they did have this awesome little thing that holds your umbrella in place. I told them I needed to check on my dog, then I'd buy it. The guy said that they were pet friendly, so I grabbed my dog and brought him inside. (Just in time, considering some crazy person was judging me for leaving my dog in the shade tied up for less than 2 minutes.) Anyways... The staff was super helpful. They hooked me up with the umbrella holder, and I nabbed some tennis balls for my dog. They even gave him a treat from behind the counter. It's nice to see that customer service is alive and well, especially during the busy summer. I know it can be overwhelming with tourists, and the heat, but this staff is dynamite. This store is great, I wish they were open later! I've stopped by for several things, most recently to have some keys made. I was disappointed that they didn't have a specialty key for the key I was copying, and the sales clerk took the time to double check and make sure they really didn't have it. (Seriously, not even upset they didn't have it by that point, because the fact that the guy took the time to try and find a Jet's key was great.) I had my small dog with me one day, and was just running in to buy him some tennis balls for the beach. Not only did they let me take him in, they gave him a dog biscuit, too. In the midst of another remodel, the screws that came with the knobs for the cabinets were not long enough. Of course they're metric. I'm all about convenience so I went to Coronado Hardware Glass and Paint. The had the right size, but only about 20. The salesman then called two other hardware stores to see if they had what I needed. It turned out the second one had the 150 I required. Better yet, the salesman even negotiated a discount for me! I am a regular customer of this Hardware Store. I find the employees very helpful. I decided to tackle the re-grouting of our kitchen sink on my own - and I didn't know where to start. He led me around to the Painters Tape, single edge razor blades and the best caulk for the job - then proceeded to tell me exactly what to do. Last Friday my central air decided to take a nose dive and stopped working late in the day. Repair man can not come until Monday. I needed a fan like yesterday in the 90 plus degree temperature. Everywhere I went they were sold out (knew that but was hoping for a miracle). Well, decided to call Coronado Hardware and that's where my miracle happened. I drove all the way from Rancho Del Rey. They didn't have just one fan they had more than one size and had plenty of stock on hand. I have gone to the store in the past when I needed something especially when I didn't know where to buy it. The guy was on his way out after locking the doors and opened the store up for me, rung me up, and helped me carry two huge bags out. He could have said, "Sorry, we're closed..." But he didn't.
