Wow this place is a blast from the past. When you enter this place it's like you're in the twilight zone.....Good Old fashioned service here. Just ask any employee what you're looking for and you'll be guided through the maze of products and directed to exactly what you're looking for...just like that. I was thrilled to find a mom & pop hardware store in North Park! I went it and casually perused most of the aisles, getting an idea of the different products they offered (they have a little bit of everything). I wasn't really looking for anything in particular, I like to peruse the items like some people would at a bookstore. Anyway as I started to make my way to the counter to buy some wildflower seeds and ant poison, the large hulk of a middle aged or older man stood blocking my path to the register, scowling at me like I was up to no good. He slowly moved out of the way so I could look at some of the items behind him on a rack, then quietly asked a guy from the back to come out and keep an eye on me. So the new guy immediately seemed annoyed with Me, very directly and with no friendliness in his voice at all "what are you up to man?!" I reply "not much, what's going on with you man ?" He presses me "what do you need" so I explain to him an issue I'm having with a door hinge and he rudely tells me I'm looking at the wrong product. I explained to him that i liked the store because it seemed like a small business and not Home Depot or Lowe's and that I like to support small biz. He was not impressed. Never a smile, never a thanks for shopping with us. These guys told me they own the building so maybe that's why they treat customers like dirt? I won't return. I'll find another small biz hardware store to support. I read some of the other low star reviews and noticed that some of them suspected the workers here to be somewhat prejudiced against POC but I am often accused of being Caucasian and I'm thinking these guys just aren't into customer service and human kindness. read more

Bought a cooking weight scale. Not what I expected so I returned it 5 days later. Was told it is a "tool" so no returns accepted unless it's store credit. That is ridiculous. I do not need store credit. Will dispute with my credit card company. Be careful when shopping here. read more

My favorite hardware store of ALL TIME!!! I've been shopping this store for 10 years. At first I thought it was too small to have what I need. I was wrong! This little store never ceases to amaze me because 99.9% of the time they have everything I need. After 10 years, this hardware store feels like an episode of the TV show "Cheers" because everybody knows my name there. All the workers are friendly and knowledgeable. The very few times I have ever been disappointed with North Park Hardware were when I was trying to buy something no longer in existence...anywhere. If I tried to find a better price, it would end up in a back alley at midnight after it had fallen off a truck and wasn't what I needed. North Park Hardware not only has what you need , you have a wide variety of choices for each item. May they be here long after I have hung my hammer for good. I usually don't frequent this types of stores too much, but sometimes when you have to, you need to. I came here to get copies of keys and it was fairly easy process. Went in and out, the gentleman helping was very kind and helpful. He asked me if I wanted to pick a special design for my keys and few minutes later copies were done and I was out the door. I went to Lowe's and waited for help for 1/2 an hour. When I asked a third person for help in plumbing he had no idea what I was talking about. I went to Home Depot and never got help after asking. What happened to customer service? This is not a store it's a serve yourself check yourself out and if you need help go to north park hardware!! I was asked right away if I needed help. He didn't know so he asked Sam who not only knew but added suggestions that I used and now getting home I bought the wrong tube that he suggested a different one. Everything. They have everything. This place packs in 100 m2 what H.D. spreads over an hectare. In fact, North Park hardware reminds me in many ways why I loathe the big orange. The guy is courteous, available, knowledgeable and he even points to the cheaper option next to the brand-name hardware. If you need just one wire-nut, he sells you just one, not a box of twenty. Why every neighbourhood does not have such a store is beyond me. Why North Park, chock-full with tattooed and bearded hipsters who would not know from which end to hold a screwdriver, supports one, is even less fathomable, but there it is, and I hope it is there to stay. read more

One of the employees asked me to keep an eye on that customer while he got something from the back, which I did not. Then another employee started stalking me around the store, suspiciously coming up to me every 10 seconds. Apparently they're not as concerned if you're white? Will not go back. read more

They do try hard and inventory is good. They're great to save you a trip to the big stores. The location is convenient. I hope the city is aware of North Park parking shortage. This hardware store is very nice. It's small but packs in lots of items for apartments and homes. I have found a wide variety of excellent items there for my apartment, from under the counter LED lighting, to a shower head and to sharpening oil for my pocket knife. The only drawback is the lack of parking but that's not the business' fault, that's the fault of politicians and other local crap. We live in a world where big corporations seem to be taking over almost everything. Every time you purchase something at a big box store, like Home Depot, Lowe's and other large businesses such as Amazon and Starbucks, you are making it harder for small business owners to stay in business. While North Park Hardware doesn't carry every item you might need, I have found certain items at this store which Home Depot doesn't even carry. Also, the staff at North Park Hardware and extremely nice and helpful. If I can't find something there, they always recommend another business where I can find what I'm looking for. I've had excellent service from multiple employees, including Mac, Kevin and Chris. I always go to North Park Hardware first and then only if I have to, I'll go to a big box store and pay the big faceless and evil box stores. read more

Big lots has been long gone!!! The lots would have been my first choice for tools/hardware in north park, (a.k.a the hood I call home). Hmmm I need some nuts and bolts and I don't feel like heading back to home depot, it's too crowded with no parking there. What can I do? Who can I turn to? My chest feels heavy as I'm struck by a flash of anxiety. I panic, freeze up as I realize that there's no denial at the decision I have to make at hand. Aw yes there it is! North Park Hardware is a neighborhood hardware store that is arranged with all the efficiency of one of those nook art supply stores with floor to ceiling use of space. It's a welcoming space that will leave you questioning why you take the three highways to walk down the warehouse lanes of the big box stores for a lock, nail, or some simple hardware item for sure. I prefer to support small business but I will not be going back here. One of my pet peeves is when you walk into an establishment, walk up to the counter and the employee just stares at you rather than say anything. A man stared at me for a solid 5 seconds which made it quite uncomfortable for me, as a female who can't go anywhere without men staring. Finally he said "hello". Anyway, I wanted to exchange something. I had the receipt but not the label that came on the item so I was told I was told I could not exchange it. That's too bad for them because I planned on shopping around for other things as well. I'll go to ACE hardware instead where the employees don't stare at you like a piece of meat, and you can exchange/return items. **I had the same situation with Ace and I was able to exchange the cord AND I spent more money there. read more

I needed keys made for an older door lock. The ones I had made earlier at another hardware store did not work. I stopped into north park hardware and the keys made here worked perfectly. The young man that made them assured me he has a good track record and he was right. I needed those keys for a tenant moving in today. From now on I won't go anywhere else for keys and other items.
