Pretty great experience overall from booking to the appt itself. I was running 10/15 minutes late and the office was flexible and accommodating. Check-in was easy and quick as I was able to do a lot of the paperwork online ahead of the appt time. Very friendly and chatty staff. Cleaning felt thorough and was efficient - was in and out in less than 40 minutes for my 1st appointment cleaning with x-rays. I like that they take real-time photos to show you, beyond x-rays, what looks good and what may need work. The cleaning itself was well-done: I usually like to get a numbing gel on my gums to help with pain or sensitivity, but didn't need it and felt comfortable for the duration. I had a small cavity and was able to get it filled on-the-spot in 10 minutes - my entire time at the office was still less than 1 hour. I was worried about how long it'd take (I needed to get home for a meeting) and Dr. Afshar had me check Google maps for my ETA/traffic before she started the procedure, to ensure I'd be on time. Honestly to start off this review, I feel like giving this place a 1 star is generous. I am currently pregnant and needed to get my teeth cleaned and updated X-Rays. My appointment was scheduled at 11:00 am but I received a called at 10:45 when I was already in the parking lot. The receptionist told me they were cancelling my appointment the very last minute because I needed a dental clearance for my OBGYN, she was very rude and was quick to hang up the phone after I had questions about it. Not a problem. I got the dental clearance 2 minutes after this call and was able to still make it to my appointment. Upon arriving, it didn't seem like a very welcoming place. I think the only pleasant experience I had was the dental assistant who took my X-rays. Seeing the actual dentist she had told me I had gingivitis and said that it could harm me and my unborn baby if I didn't come see her again for another cleaning in 3 MONTHS!! I'm still absolutely disgusted by this unprofessional behavior. I'm due in 3 months and I know for a fact that a pregnant women would not want to be sitting in those uncomfortable chairs just for another teething cleaning. My husband is active duty so we have United Concordia and I'm able to get teeth cleaning every 6 months but this dental office expected me to be okay with paying out of pocket for some mediocre teeth cleaning. I have a new fear of dentists for sure. This was a horrific experience and I absolutely hate this place. read more

The office is new and really pleasant, from the open well-lit waiting room (including an available massage chair to relax in) to the advanced equipment being used. They even have a tv in the ceiling! Dr. Afshar and her assistant Katherine were very friendly and attentive, as well as thorough and professional. It was truly a personable and stress free experience. Do not go to Dr. Ashfar! I have never had a more horrifying experience. I had to get an implant for a front tooth and she was the dentist who placed the crown. The crown was gray and you could see the stem of the implant. She told me to find a deep shade of red lipstick. That's a first getting makeup advice to cover up horrible dentistry. She's awful and rude to boot! read more

It is sad that Dr. Afshar and her staff were so disappointing. I went to this dental office after having a terrible experience at another. This was after I decided to try another dentist other than Dr. Afshar because she could not manage to repair my sister's crown on repeated occasions. So I went back to Dr. Afshar again after a filling that another dentist did for me fell out. Dr. Afshar did get me in quickly but when I care in she offered to adjust my mouth guard because she thought it may have caused my filling to fall out. She told me to come in the followings Monday and she would fix it, no big deal. So I called her on Monday to ask when I could be seen. She told me abruptly that she was booked and that she could not see me. Then I told her I didn't know I had to make an appointment as that was not my job as a patient to follow up with the receptionist about my appointment. I was so confused, she acted like it was not a big issue but when I tried to come in to follow through with what she said initially she acted like I had done something wrong. Thus her rapport and communication style with patients is unclear as well as rude at best and combative at worst. It is unfortunate that after my telling her about my past negative experience with a dentist she could not make this a really great one for me. read more

I have pretty intense anxiety when it comes to the dentist. I have nothing but negative dental experiences in my 27 years, but that changed today! This is by far the best visit I have ever had. I had 6 fillings done and didn't feel a thing, not even the injections. Dr. Afshar and her assistant, Katharine, are amazing and incredibly kind. They spent quite a bit of time with me, reassuring and informing me on everything they were doing. I didn't feel foolish for my fear and didn't feel pressured to have work done that I didn't want. The office is also a very cozy environment, with a children's room, coffee, massage chair, and your choice of music and Netflix. I cannot give them enough praise for their professionalism and kindness. I will definitely be using this practice from now on! read more

Dr. Afshar has been my dentist for almost 2 years. She and her staff are top of the line. When I have experienced dental problems, she always manages to fit me in her schedule. Once while out of town I called her office in an emergency and by the time I was back in town, she had already arranged for me to meet her in the office. My teenagers first visited Dr. Afshar when we had to change dentists for insurance purposes. I was impressed with the care and kindness they received, so much so that I decided to make an appointment for myself (after avoiding the dentist for 10+ years). I am thankful to have found an excellent dental clinic. My comfort and care was their top priority. The staff goes above and beyond to accommodate patients - willing to see me on a day off when my temporary came out because I was foolish and ate chewy candy. Everything Kristy said is true. Nice environment, and savvy dental experience. My own outcome was not 5 out of 5 stars. On my latest timeshare trip to Coronado, (I have coming for some 20 years), I had 11 teeth resurfaced over 2 days, and got way too much lidocaine each time...took me about 5 hours for my teeth to get feeling back each time. Teeth looked fine from the front, but there were still cavities on the backside of the teeth that went untreated. I then went to a local dentist closer to my home in the high desert for a cavity check, and was told that the plastic that the dentist used was opaque to X-rays and the local dentist could not easily repair my teeth without those X-rays. I currently do not know how to get around this problem except to look at "older" pictures of my teeth. I was NOT told about the use of OPAQUE plastic to cover my teeth. If this doesn't bother you, then the dentist is very competent. BTW I have a doctorate in chemistry and should have known better... The California Dental Board was found to be self-policing, and was not receptive to any legal complaints. read more

She telephoned me back right away and met me at her office this evening to fix it. It is New Year's Day and a Sunday and she still puts her patients first.
