When I first moved into Belleville a year ago this place was fantastic. My family absolutely loved the ropa vieja empanadas and the coffee was delicious. I don't go often but decided to go last month and was completely disappointed with the ropa vieja empanadas I couldn't even eat them. They went straight to the trash. The seasoning was off and the salt was unbearable. I decided to stop by today and give it another shot hoping it was a one time thing. Unfortunately it was worst this time not only was the ropa vieja empanadas awful but so was my coffee and the lady at the counter was so distracted talking to her co workers she forgot about my coffee. I really liked the food we ordered from here. Busy on weekends esp near lunch time. Heads up - if you online order it takes longer so plan ahead. Took us 40 minutes, not 15, for our order to be ready. Creme brûlée and tres leches were my faves!!! So good. I will go back for those. The Papa rellena (potatoes balls) are huge but could have more flavor inside? The guava pastelitos also very good. Would skip the meat ones cuz there's so little meat in the middle. My favorite place to go to for some mid day empanadas was Sweets and Cortaditos. My favorites were the cheese empanadas with their flakey pastry dough and lots of cheese. What the empanadas at S&C have turned into is a complete disappointment. These are the empanadas my husband came home with today, the cheese empanadas had run out and so we got chicken. The seasoning was awful, the dough is not deep fried as an empanada is traditionally known for, and it was overall bad. I took one bite and tossed to the trash. I'm writing this review after 5+ trips here. This place is super clean so let's start there. The staff is always friendly and make sure to answer questions if you're not sure what to get. The empanadas are always fresh and have a lot of filling but my favorite is the guava and cheese ($1.59 each). Their tres leche cake is the absolute best you can get in the area. I've purchased several for multiple occasions and it is always delicious and the right consistency for this cake. Their large cake is $30 and feeds about 6 people twice. I'm going to get straight to the point because I'm stuffing my face as I make this review. This place is fantastic, I don't know how else to say it. This is not good but GREAT Cuban food and even if you're not in the area you should come try it out. I love Cuban cuisine, some would say it's basic but I say who cares when the flavors are magnificent and that's what this place has every time. The Cuban sandwiches are amazing and I get one every time I order. They have Cuban sodas that are delicious and the empanadas of course are wonderful. All of the desserts are also very good. I don't have any negative comments about this place, they are completely worthy of their high ratings/reviews. Would definitely highly recommend eating here, I'll be back next week. read more

I have wanted to try this place for a while and finally stopped by today. I had a Cuban sandwich which is honestly the best Cuban I've ever eaten. Also ordered a cappuccino which was honestly perfect, so good my bf ended up buying the ground coffee for us to take home. We only walked in for sandwiches and a drink but ended up getting so many more items off the menu and everything was really good. Came here to grab some coffee with a friend. I ordered a small coffee cause Cuban coffee is usually strong so I did not want to stay up all night, haha. The coffee was delicious, perfectly coffee and sweet enough for me. I also ordered a bunch of pastries such as guava empanada, ham croqueta, this stuff meat pastry and cheese roll pastry. The food was okay, I wasn't jumping off the walls for more, some was a bit dry but with the coffee it was a good mix. The staff was super friendly and very nice to all their customers, I can tell they have built a strong and loyal community. The reason I gave this establishment four stars is because they had some flies around everywhere in cafe and that is rare especially during winter here in NJ. Also, the garbage was overflowing and no one seemed to care that thrash was on the floor. They are fresh and made to order, but sadly the filling into the pastries is sparse - mostly puffed dough. They also did not separate the savory pastries from the sweet, which made serving them a challenge when you don't know what is what. This is a great stop for a solid Cuban sandwich and coffee! Super inexpensive, great portions and awesome taste. But I would stick to eating here instead of getting delivery or something, and I would stick to the Cuban sandwich and empanadas. Picked up a quick breakfast today from S&C and idk what was it about the order today because I have been before but it literally made my morning! I ordered a ham, egg, cheese medianoche & caramel ice coffee and it was delicious! The sweet bread was soft and warm and the coffee was just how I like my coffee, strong and semi sweet. To add to that, the lovely lady who took care of me was sweet, professional, and did not miss a beat as she was able to effortlessly take my entire order ( I ordered other items) and answer the phone! Boo Boo and I came here after dinner. It's across the street from Topaz Thai. Boo boo is a proponate of dessert and all things sweet. We did a quick search on yelp and saw that they tres leche. This place is a Spanish bakery but with a café feel. They can make eleborate cofee drinks. We purchased a single portion of flan, tres leche cake and guanabana smootie/shake to-go. The desserts were average. I think they were not as fresh. It wasn't very sweet which is good sometimes. Also, I think they needed to be refrigerated to help with the freshness. My smoothie was great. Tasted like the other shakes I get from Vietnamese places. I would come back to try a sandwich or empandas. Not sure if they have wifi.
