The Lyndhurst Pastry Shop located on Ridge Road is an iconic must visit during the holiday season. There quality pastry, cookie, pie, bread, and cakes are without peer and their staff is always professional and top rate. I ordered the Christmas Honey balls ($19.95) and the Fudge Layer Cake ($29.50) and while I disagree with the credit card fee being passed to the consumer, the quality of the product exceeds that cost. Inside the venue is a true classic bakery atmosphere and while there is usually a line, the service is brisk and moves fairly quickly. If you want to impress your holiday season guests, family or friends, the LPS is the right venue for traditional Italian baked goods and desserts! Can't believe I haven't written a review for one of my favorite bakeries. Now, Lyndhurst Pastry Shop holds its own right next to Mills in Woodridge. Both delicious and both specializing in my favorite treats. Lyndhurst has the best customer service around. Every time I go, the ladies behind the counter are the most helpful and friendly. I've never had bad service here. The cakes are always fresh, I stopped in today for Pi Day and I got a literal steaming hot apple crumb pie. Absolutely delicious. Their pignoli cookies are my absolute favorite - perfectly chewy cookie and crunchy from the nuts. You can't go wrong with those. Everything is great, their biscotti, rolls, donuts, cupcakes. In the summer they also serve Italian ice and that's fantastic as well. This is definitely your go-to spot for a fresh cake or for a pignoli cookie when you're in need of a treat. read more

They have a good variety of flavors, especially considering the fact that all their ices are homemade! Some of the names are fun but we had to ask about what flavors they actually were - for example, yum yum = vanilla. After finding this Wonderful bakery last summer we headed right over here after coming in from California today. Hubby was giddy to see that Italian ice is available and even more excited to have his favorite chocolate and cherry combo. For pastries, he got way too many as he wanted to share with friends who passed on dessert. What did he get? If you follow me, you know that hubby is a cannoli and lobster tail kind of guy. My favorite is the Napoleon. I wanted something savory but the option for this is tough. They did have some freshly baked cheese croissants thankfully. Lucky me! The party is light and the filling is cheesy from a light custard and the dough light. Just perfect for what I was craving. We love that this place is open late and what a perfect location next to the train station. Good thing I don't live near here because I'd weigh 200 pounds! The cannolis are filled to order and it's nice to have smaller size Napoleons. The breads and rolls look amazing, the cookies are abundant and colorful and the cakes, the cakes! I grew up on LPS. Walking into the shop is to be enveloped in the smell of my childhood. In all their many years in business, the quality is as high as ever. Their Italian pastries are the best around. I've never had a better cannoli. The biscotti are perfect. The pignoli cookies are divine. And the Italian ice is in a league of its own. Very conveniently located near the Kingsland Train Station, I stopped in to the Lyndhurst Pastry Shop, where my attention immediately zeroed in on some Boston cream doughnuts. I got some to take with me; they were delightful. Ample filling which was both delicate in flavor and texture. Not like the gloppy concoctions you might find elsewhere. If I could give this place ZERO stars I would. This is the 2nd time they've cancelled my Uber Eats order at the last minute without notifying me and it happened on a holiday last time too. There's nothing like getting to the bakery on time to pick up your order only to be told that they don't know what order you're talking about. If your business can't handle the online volume that comes with the holidays than don't utilize Uber Eats. Today was the wrong day for them to do this again. Long story short, the customer service after this happened stinks!! The loud mouth, nasty manager kept arguing back and forth with me that no one there cancelled the order and told me to call Uber Eats because they've been having issues with them lately. NO, YOU call Uber Eats and straighten out your ongoing issues with them. It's not my business, it's yours!!! All she had to do was fill the order and take responsibility for their mistake. Sounds pretty easy to me. Well, she refused to fill the order and made my son wait outside in 8 degree weather in an hour long line while I reordered it. She kept repeating that the bakery has been there for over 75 years and that my spreading the word that this happened doesn't matter. I guess she never heard of the customer is always right. This is customer service 101!!! It's Christmas Eve or else I'd be going elsewhere. My family has been going here for years, but this is the last time we'll ever go here again. I now know where to go when I can't get to Ferrara. I was in Lyndhurst and was in the mood for some mix Italian cookies and remember the bakery shop next to the Train Station. So I walk in and not only is it set up for 6ft social distancing but they have like a movie theater all around the glass display cases. Hey, I like having my nose on the glass so I can see what I am going to eat! Well, thank goodness the place is staff with helpful girls to assist you, and I got my box of mixed cookies that were good and they had a big selection to choose from. Very disappointing. I needed a loaf of bread, and instead of traveling over the bridge, I decided to stop at Lyndhurst Pastry Shop. The loaf was stale! Especially stale on the inside. Awful and tasted disgusting. You can tell the ingredients are not of quality. There was also zero taste. Head over the bridge to Nutley for better bread. read more

Full disclosure: my better half, the Mrs., the mother of my children, the pickle to my peanut butter (hey - don't you dare knock a peanut-butter-and-pickle-sandwich... it's surprisingly good) - her very first job when she was a teen in high school was here. (So I'm giving them one star just for that.) And my mother-in-law swears that their rum cake is to die for (so that deserves another star - just to keep in her good graces). Another star has to go to their 'side hustle' with their delicious Italian ices that are wildly popular in the summer. As their name implies - they're more sweets-oriented and I'm more a (basic) bread/carbs kind of person. But they have taralles (score!) and their semolina bread is mighty fine. I miss a great Italian Bakery. This place is an American gem, a part of the Italian heritage brought and continued on in our great country. I'll try to make it back to this great store when in Lyndhurst. As for the Italian ice, loved it too. I was out for a run and this was a destination. Something is going on at LPS. I've been going here for years and the quality is going downhill. Everything looks good but has no taste. I know ingredient cost has gone way up but you have to maintain quality. I recently got a cannoli there and it tasted more like whipped cream than a real cannoli filling. WTF! read more
