Cortez Bait and Seafood is a place to get fresh seafood. They care about sustainable seafood and feature local, fresh and seasonal fish at the store. They say they're the oldest active fishing village in the country. They have their seafood for that day on ice behind plexiglass. You can see and smell that it is fresh. Examples of what they can sell are Florida Clams, Mahi, Oysters, Pompano, Salmon, Smoked Mullet, Red Snapper, Yellow Grouper, Scamp Grouper, Stone Crabs, Swordfish, Triple Tail, Tuna, Tigerfish, Jumbo Gulf shrimp, PEI Mussels, & Key West Pink Shrimp. This is our go to spot for fresh fish when we are in town. They have the best peel and eat shrimp, better than any restaurant on AMI. We loaded up on red snapper for multiple meals including this lemon, garlic, herbed pasta with sauted snapper. Always friendly and helpful too! read more

Stopped by 10 minutes past closing on a Sunday. They let us in and hooked us up with fresh Grouper, local Colossal Shrimp and some of their Smoked Fish dip. They were beyond friendly and accommodating and the seafood was fresh and delicious! I rarely do reviews but almost no one treats customers (especially out of town customers) like this anymore. read more

Seafood right off the boat - dosnt get any fresher ! Love the Royal Red shrimp and jumbo wild Florida shrimp are excellent. Same with the grouper or red snapper etc I drive 30 mins - just to get fresh , never frozen seafood - their cocktail sauce is house made and excellent ! read more

Cool seafood place. Their fishing boat just located behind the store if you want to visit. This seafood place has fresh seafood every day. They are not cheap but fresh. The colossal stone crab claw is $33 per pound. It is huge. It is good for a try if you have never have that. It is definitely more meat that the medium claw which is $19. It take 4 medium to replace one colossal claw. They can crack it for you if you want to eat it immediately. Now they move their store at the main road and it is easy to access. It is the intersection of 121 and west Cortez Road. The have black grouper for $19 a pound. This grouper is filleted and ready to cook. read more

This is the place to go if you're staying on Anna Maria Island! Do not go to "other" seafood markets that are closer. This place has amazing and fair prices for market seafood and it's a legit seafood market inside. I bought at two different seafood markets this vacation. The first one was close to the beach house I was staying out but the prices were outrageous! The second time, I went with this place and I was so happy with it. Loved this market! The fish was point on and the people working were helpful and offered us samples of anything they had available! The pre-made shrimps are awesome, the swordfish was incredible. When we were there the lady had made homemade tuna salad, buy it!!!! The homemade cocktail sauce was also amazing! We bought a bag of the suggested hush puppy mix, really good! The best thing I had was the smoked salmon. I have never had smoked salmon that good on my life!! So tasty, melts like butter in your mouth. Great seafood market. We had a family of 12 on vacation and wanted to cook in one night so we stopped in and found a great selection. Everything that everyone wanted was here nice and fresh. The grouper was super fresh and we also grabbed some mahi mahi, shrimps, scallops, snow and Alaskan king crab, lobster bisque and some salmon. The mongers are very friendly and accommodating with helping slice up perfect sized portions. Next time we are on the island we will be back for sure. read more

I have had mixed experiences. The last time was with medium stone crab that turned out not fresh, but frozen and thawed. The difference in taste was obvious. Prices are also in general higher by 10-20% than other places. As an example, medium stone crab was $30/lb at Cortez seafood, but only $25/lb at Starfish (nov 2021). read more

The Bait/Seafood Market has moved but the restaunt has not. The restaurant has outdoor seating and a decent menu, service and drinks & OUTSTANDING Clams. So if you are in the Anna Maria, Cortez Fl area, stop and and buy some fresh seafood to take home or eat at the restaurant. We have done both and enjoyed. read more

This is a great seafood market. All of the seafood is fresh and not previously frozen. We always buy our seafood here. They do have prepared foods in a refrigerator such as chowders, soups, crab cakes. This is not a fried seafood takeout restaurant, it is a seafood market. The place is clean! We've been shopping at Starfish Co.'s small store for shrimp, but on the advice of a friend, decided to try Cortez Bait & Seafood. Or, as we refer to it now, Cortez Bait & Switch. A few days earlier we'd picked up some Key West jumbo pink shrimp at Starfish. These are much sought-after shrimp, unbelievably tender, sweet, and huge. They're easily identifiable because they have a large pink/red dot on them that shows through the shell. Deciding to try Cortez Bait, I called to make sure they had the shrimp in. There was no mistaking what I said: "Do you have Key West jumbo pink shrimp in, the kind with the red dot on them?" Absolutely, I was assured by the woman on the phone. So, we hopped in the car and took off. Something was worrying me, though, so I asked my wife to make the same call. She put it a little differently: "Do you have those jumbo shrimp with the red dot on them available?" Yes, absolutely. "How much are they?" $13.45 a pound. Wow! Great price - almost four dollars less than Starfish Company! We were thrilled. We arrived about 10 minutes later. Asked for the jumbo Key West pink shrimp. "Oh, we don't have those in. But we DO have these white shrimp." Disappointed, I asked how fresh they were. "Just caught yesterday. Never frozen." Okay, a pound of those, and a pound of the Royal Reds. We went home. Cooked these exactly as we'd been cooking shrimp for decades with nary a problem. The white shrimp were, to put it mildly, awful. Shells separated from the shrimp as they cooked. The shrimp themselves were so mushy after cooking that we threw them out. So, I called and politely asked to speak with the manager. Explained about the pink shrimp with the red dot. "Oh, we've got those in!!" No, you don't. "Well, they might not have been out." No, we asked the girl behind the counter and the woman at the register. You didn't have them. Silence. And, I added, the white shrimp were definitely frozen before. At least once if not more. Silence. Then his suggestion: "Well, why don't you come on down and get some more then." Really? After we'd just thrown away a pound of them? He didn't say "Oh, I'm so sorry. Do you have any left over? Please, bring one in so I can see what you're talking about and I'll make it up to you." Not even "I'm sorry." I got so steamed, I finally said "You know, we came in on the advice of a local friend. And I think you just shilled us. Your people SAID they had the pink Key West shrimp to get us in. That was the bait. And then, you switched." We will never, ever go back there. OH. One last thing. Our friend was raving about the "smoked salmon". It is salmon, and it was cooked on a cedar plank, and it is tender. But the seasoning is completely forgettable, and it's about as far from "smoked salmon" as you can get. Wait. One more last thing. Paying $25-30 a pound for stone crab claws when you can buy them from Captain Anthony's on AMI for $15-$20 is absurd... read more
