I had a large order to place on the store located on 53rd Ave. West, Bradenton, 6 pizzas, 40 wings, potato wedges. I wasn't sure how this would all turn out but the Deli Lady (Qua) took my order and she was very friendly and helpful. The order was picked up by my son as I didn't have the time to go and pick it up, but it was ready ON TIME, and the aroma from the food was mouthwatering. Everything was cooked to perfection, and it was so good, can I say so darn good. The whole crowd was very pleased, and they were commenting on the taste of everything and the freshness of the entire meal. I loved Detwiler's so much! i'm back in virginia now and miss it. Detwiler's gives out a lot of samples from--cheese, pizza, cookies, pastries, steak, and sometimes even fish. They also have an ice cream shop right at the front of the store (it was delish). When we went, they had steak, cheese, ham and cheese croissant, and cookie samples. My favorite was the Red Dragon cheese (w/mustard and ale). I havent been able to find it elsewhere. The ham and cheese croissant was so good that we bought 4 of them. I also got the clam chowder, and it was honestly one of the best soups I've ever had. we sat at the tables in the front to eat it, and it was so good we went back and got seconds. We checked out the deli too, where you can build your own sandwich or order from the hot food section. They had fried chicken, ribs, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, and more. I was talking with one of the ladies working there, i mentioned it was my first time visiting since i was just in town visiting family; she was so sweet and gave me, my niece, and my nephews a chicken tender EACH to try. super nice of her to do that. we ended up getting the potato wedges too, and they were so good we finished them before we even got home. Detweiler's was our go to spot while vacationing on Anna Maria Island. They have pretty much everything we needed for groceries. Every time we walked down a new isle we found more stuff to get. Haha We got some hotdogs for grilling and donuts for breakfast and much more. I was looking for a pineapple mango that I saw on social media the one that the lady that found it said it was one of the last few they had which was true unfortunately when I got it home and cut into it it was rotten. But still a good visit wish I could have tried the mango maybe next time. read more

This is a newer Detwilers and I like it a lot. It seems smaller to me but I like the set up. Today was Customer Appreciation, & they have out hot dogs, cookies, & drinks. Inside they had samples of ice cream, apple crumble bars, cheese, and different types of chips and Drinks, and even salmon. They are so nice here and they have awesome local ice cream Yoder's here. There's seats and tables also to enjoy your food. They also make sandwiches and pizzas, & have sushi. And their bakery section is amazing, homemade and is an Amish bakery. They have great deals and such an expansive section for produce which is a fave. Lots of tropical fruit too. read more

I loved the homemade hot salsa and have purchased 3 to 4 containers a week for several years. In the past 6 months, they have changed the hot but left the mild as it was. I really dislike the new version of the hot salsa to where I quit buying it. Instead, I buy the mild and add habinero peppers to spice it up. I would love to see the old style hot back again. read more

OMG. A grocery store on steroids! The prices were great. Vegetable and fruit was fresh and very tasty. I went on a Sunday which I will not do again. They also serve samples throughout the store. Purchased rib steak for $14.99 a pound. Haven't seen it that cheap in a long time. They were very tender and flavorful when we grilled them that night. read more

Disappointed. The only fresh organic produce I saw was cherry tomatoes and those were uncovered and picked through and rearranged. No organic honey either. We came for cod for a recipe and found it. It was good. Brown gulf shrimp from Texas looked awful. With the employee's reassurance, we tried them and felt queasy afterwards. Who knows why. Like the Chop Shop and Aldi's. read more

Fresh produce, meats, seafood, bakery and a ton of unique Amish items to magically fill up your cart. The place is wide open, clean and well stocked so you'll never leave without something. I was in Bradenton for something else and decided to stop in and check this place out after seeing the great reviews for it. First if you are new, like I was, and plan to have lunch here, find the lunch type area first (sandwiches, etc.) and grab only lunch first because the table area is on the other side of the registers and a small area. It would be great to see them add some 4 seat tables instead of the one long picnic table and the bar area (which is great to have also). I recommend a sandwich because the bread is outstanding. I had a 1/2 Philly steak that was very good. Unrelated but 2 teenage boys were seated near me playing the "color game" while they had lunch. Refreshing to witness...no eyes glued to their cellphones; they were not even out if they had them. I shopped mainly the perimeter of the store. I recommend starting on the side near the sandwiches because if you plan on getting any seafood that will go in your cart last. I picked up some rye bread but did not realize there were various kinds so chose the wrong one for hubby. Still good but disappointing to have a dark bread with no seeds in the bread (just on top of it). Produce is a great selection. I am pretty picky with my produce and buy many items organic. I understand this store gets mostly local produce but it would be great to see the farms listed near the item and then if not organic, do they use organic practices (specifically what). I may have bought more produce if I had known more about these specifics. I love to support local but I also am very mindful of avoiding pesticides and Apeel. I did not buy any meats because I was also concerned about what farms they come from and their practices. I did not look closely to see if that was listed... I assumed not from a quick glance over. If they added some signage of farm practices and which items come from which farms, people like me may have bought much more. I did buy the wild caught crab legs from Canada (according to the worker at that area) and they were very, very good. I also bought a scone (no icing... very good) and a Whoopie pie...very good. On my way out of the store I bought a green smoothie which was good but not sure I would splurge on it again. Produce wise I bought blueberries, a zucchini, a cantaloupe, green beans, lemons, limes and avocados. So far everything has been great. This is not the closest store to me (Pinellas county) so I hope the Palmetto one is just as good. Again, I would just love to see more transparency with the farms they support and their practices. Maybe then I would discover there is no need to be so concerned. read more

Our first time to Detwiler's and we loved it. We stopped in for a few things and of course we found such good prices on produce and meat that we left with a cart full. Well we enjoy some of the meats but lately I come home with seriously bad produce salads mix gone really bad before the use best buy date and recently bought organic hard boiled egged two day ago best used by the end of February opened them up and they stink. I don't know how they stock stuff but enough is enough. Prices are so high and you think you are buying quality food but you're not. Even the meat quality in the past year has declined. Tasteless!
