To my recollection, this was my first stay at a KOA campground. Overall, I was impressed. I echo other reviews in that the grounds were well-maintained, the staff was friendly and actually seemed like they WANTED to be there, and all facilities were clean. It felt very safe and friendly overall. That being said, I would NOT recommend staying in a classic tent at this site unless you have an amazing pad or a cot. Their tent sites are GRAVEL. It looked like there might be an extension down below for tents that I did not go check out specifically, that MIGHT have have had softer ground, but it still didn't look comfy. It was unclear if this was part of the KOA site or not (but given the geography, probably is), but I definitely saw tents pitched on the gravel up top. I don't know how they did it. My dad and I upgraded to a cabin. It seems this KOA site is more for glamping than camping, which is fine if that's what you're prepared for... Boy does that sound counter-intuitive. Just don't show up with a tent and a thermarest. read more

Stay in Durango or somewhere else. Our experience would be funny if we hadn't paid money for this. We were supposed to be here two nights. We will be leaving after only one. If you're tent camping you'd better be prepared for the sun beating down on you - yes there are tiny trees but they offer little shade. The tent sites are on red dirt or gravel - as you can imagine, those two things soak up heat and transfer it to your tent. As far as showering goes, you'd be better off to find a sprinkler to run through. Zero water pressure and it took at least 10 minutes for warmer water to finally come out. There is absolutely no quiet here - it's well after 10 PM and there is no regard for quiet hours, nor any enforcement. I'm talking about loud people - probably drunk people slamming car doors, giggling, and last but not least, setting their car alarms multiple times. Complete disappointment - there are no doubt better campsites for the money. read more

On the day of checkout, the staff were hurrying us off the property and were not considerate to our needs. The staff members were rude and brusque. The campground needs updates and maintenance. Showers and bathrooms are old and gross. Not very pet friendly either. read more

After dodging cloudbursts from Santa Fe to Cortez KOA, we arrived on a Saturday evening around 6 p.m. on our Harley. We checked in and complained about how the staff never confirmed our reservations and never returned our phone calls but managed to withdraw all the funds for our 3 day stay days in advance. The "Boss" was having a stiff drink and started getting confrontational with us. I said "you're a real prick aren't you?" to which he replied "yes, I am!". Then we were told to "get back on your iron horse. We don't like your kind here". My girlfriend demanded a full refund and then the assistant called the police on us! We ended up staying in the park. I called corporate but they can't do much but log the complaint. It took a few days for the refund to kick in, but staying at the Fairview Lodge in Mesa Verde National Park was the best thing that could have happened! We had great views, awesome breakfast buffets, filet mignon for dinner, and cold beers and great entertainment on the patio in the late afternoon. We're done with KOA's forever after keeping a family tradition since the 60's. He thought he had us, but God was watching out for us! read more

Nice quiet RV park in Cortez. Spent only one night but the people were very nice and helpful. Good, clean facilities, outstanding views of the mountains to the south, and well off the road. Close to Mesa Verde NP. Can handle big and small rigs. read more

We stayed here June 23rd thru 26th. The campgrounds is very nice, clean and quiet. The staff was friendly and helpful. The lounge has tourist brochures which we found helpful. The one thing we keep commenting to ourselves about is the awesome music that was playing in the bathrooms! read more

We stayed a week and enjoyed every minute. The staff was helpful, kampground was clean and well maintained. Any question about the surrounding area, the staff was able to answer or knew where to obtain the answer. One of the best KOA's we've stayed at. Would go back in a heartbeat. read more

The thing I like most about this KOA was its gift shop! I don't usually buy stuff at campground gift shops but they had such an excellent collection of shirts that I couldn't resist. We only stayed for one night in one of the cabins but I have to say, it was a very nice KOA! I like KOA camps because most of them can be relied upon for their excellent, clean accommodations. I think this might be the prettiest campground we've stayed in. The grounds are spotless, restrooms too. The three acre dog park is a really big bonus for us. Our two Labs travel well but need to run when we are on the road. Thanks! Staff were friendly and helpful. The tip on a place to swim our dogs was appreciated . Great KOA, we got there after a day at Mesa Verde and was the third KOA we had stayed at on our trip. The staff were genuinely nice and since we arrived around 740pm they were happy to keep the pool open another 30min so our kids could swim. They swam and played and enjoyed the swing overlooking the greenbelt behind our cabin. The cabin was clean and comfortable. The bathrooms were nice, the showerhead was too low, but otherwise clean. KOA never seems to disappoint. As stated, their customer service was fantastic, so impressive that I was surprised they were the only one on our trip who didn't get a presidents award from KOA. Really rather surprising considering the staff were so helpful and the premises so clean. read more

My wife and I have been staying at KOA campgrounds for years. Every experience has been good, and staff always friendly. We have returned to this KOA often and made reservations for 3 days mid September. Our puppy had to have surgery and could not be left alone for 15 days. We called and emailed Mesa Verde KOA to let them know we could not come and asked if we could reschedule our stay for a couple of weeks. We got a nice email back saying that we could reschedule but do it before they close Oct 15th. Things settled down and I called to reschedule. The Park manager informed me that we were a "no show" and lost our first night's deposit. His attitude was one of "sorry, it was your fault, call someone at corporate who cares." I found the email and called back the next day to see if KOA would honor the email. Sean was more abrupt than the day before and said he was going to refund the deposit but would not talk. Sadly he was very rude. I called corporate in Montana to see if we could resolve this. Shay at KOA there said that it is hard to tell what might be going in Sean's life but thank you for calling and it is all resolved now. This is hardly the "Why do they care so much" touted on the KOA web page and has left a very bitter experience with KOA overall. We will not be renewing our membership and will find other places to stay. read more

We stayed 4 nights in teepee. We had a nice time. Every thing was well keeped and clean. Pool was great. We did do a little fishing at Denny lake. No luck, but a local said his son caught a large mouth bass the day before. The only problems we had was the teepee was at the entrance road and we had to listen to all the traffic. All hours of the night. The teepee sides did not go all the way to the ground. It had a lot of bugs and spiders. Something at our bread. Some kids woke us being loud at about 6 or 7 in the morning. It got very hot inside so I wasn't able to take a nap. If I had an RV I'm sure I would of gave it a five. read more

Stopped here with four friends after mesa Verde to camp. When I asked how much the site was, the front desk guy quoted me a price that was the same as the price of the motel down the street. I turned and asked my friends if we should stay at the Retro Inn down the street. The front desk guy literally laughed in my face and told me to "tell him how that works out" then he just turned around to face the other way before I could respond. I'll tell you how it worked out, we got a two queen room for the same price as a tent site. Unacceptable service. I think people believe they can act this way because it will never come back to them, well this time it did. Stay at the motel down the street, they couldn't have been nicer. read more

Nice people at front desk and easy access to sites. Able to park door to door with our traveling buddies, which is a really nice perk. Store didn't have many food type items in case you've forgotten anything, but they are located very close to a supermarket and Walmart and front desk very helpful pointing us in the right direction. Went over the Fourth of July and they had an area to watch the city fireworks that worked perfectly! Staff came around with popsicles for everyone before the fireworks show!! Pool was awesome and nice walking trail around the lake. I didn't use bathrooms, but laundry room still had small top loaders and I couldn't seem to get dryers to actually dry my clothes. Ended up hanging them out (which is a no-no, but they didn't say anything). Game room had a pool table, some puzzles and a few board games. Would have given five stars if I hadn't had to spend a small fortune in the laundry room! read more
