Quit letting bums use this place as a trash can and a shitter. It has gone down hill and full of overdose zombies, the water has gotten so toxic I've literally watched snails and crayfish crawl out into the grass which is fairly certain their death place. Bums have also taken the bathroom doors completely off so now if you have to poop you have to hold your breath and shotgun it then wipe fast. I used to care about bums and always hoped for the best for them but when I see how they treat places like this they deserve exactly what they got from life. read more

Went to this park to go magnet fishing. The canal is right next to the park. The park has all of the amenities, fishing, playground. There is an increase amount of homeless people living in the park. This park has so much potential Many trees...stocked fishing...swimming pool. Unfortunately, it's filled with homeless people...camped out under trees, in the picnic ramadas...everywhere...there is a lot of trash and what appears to be an actual dump next to the canal. Gross!! Very disappointed that the city allows this and doesn't clean up this park. Why bother stocking it with fish? There's probably human feces in the pond along with all the trash. This is a large park and close to my house, but who wants to spend time here? read more

Fun to take the kids to play, there's ducks for them to view. There's hills to roll around and sports to join and play. Although it's in the tinniest bit dirty, I enjoy it here. read more

Friday 2/5/21 my husband and I went to Cortez Park to walk around take photos of birds and just have a nice afternoon to walk. As we walked around the park there was fishing hooks on the ground, fishing line in trees and then I looked up into tree to see what birds where there I was shocked to see several dead birds hanging do to fishing line they had been tangled with some looked like they been there for long time. The as we walked the lake had several dead birds and fish floating with lots of plastic debris and stuff floating in the water. As we continued our walk a goose with so much debris wrapped around one of it's leg you couldn't see it's foot not only debris around the foot but fishing line cutting off circulation it's leg was twice as big as the left leg. I was so discussed I didn't want to come back but when I contacted Liberty Wild Life to see if you could catch the goose I had to go back to help spot the bird on Saturday being aware of the condition as we walked around the pond we started noticing several other birds laying dead on the grounds. Plus all the bird poop and little kids running sitting picking up stuff, everywhere you walk there was so much poop when you try to step over the poop you end up stepping on old dried poop. I don't understand the condition of this park compared to other ones we visit. Just as many birds and people but not unkept like this one. Try to contact someone to ask about the conditions is impossible. read more

Got here to fish with my daughter the other day and the park looked ok but there was literally trash everywhere it smelt horrible there were dead duck chicks floating in the water dead fish and tons of trash in the water definitely not going back for fishing surprised no one is gotten sick. Absolutely disgusting. read more

The AZ American Eskimo Club sponsors dog shows at Cortez. Yes, there are some homeless, but show me somewhere where they are absent? I've been around them at Sedona! Anyway, there are restrooms, and no one bothers us or the dogs when we're there. We reserve it for two days, a weekend, in January each year. The show covers some medical bills of rescues and keeps the club going. If you have an event during the day, go and have fun. read more

I have to say I am appalled at the site of this park around the fishing pond. It has been completely neglected by the city maintenance when it comes to the grounds keeping. Hundreds if not thousands of cigarette butts are all around the lake on the grass area, a ton of baked in goose and duck droppings along the sidewalks (not hard to power wash this), floating bloated dead fish found in a few spots (means they have been there for several days), trash floating around in the lake, several ducks are showing signs of either a hook or fishing line being swallowed, even found fishing line on the ground and a rusty hook, a pigeon flopped around and died a few feet from us on the bridge. My wife to say the least was horrified by the site and several children began crying from the sight of it. It is as if the city has given up on this park. Also it is apparent at this park that the city needs to do more for our homeless population. I am not degrading the homeless at all, I too was homeless once for a year, I am just stating an observation and wish the city would do more to help. Second, they should not have to deal with the conditions at this park, they deserve better than that. Us tax payers definitely should not have to deal with these conditions since our taxes pay for park maintenance. I know this park has been neglected because my wife and I visited a month before and everything looked exactly the same, same old cigarette butts, lots of trash, fish hooks and fishing line, and dead fish. It is no wonder the wildlife is suffering. I honestly do not understand how anyone could feel safe consuming the fish in this water as the water itself is in a poor state. It is overpopulated by Algae and there are no live aquatic plants to sustain a properly balanced ecosystem. What this does is promote fish parasites that attack the gills and gut of the fish. This includes various parasitic worms that can be transferred to humans. Also affects the aquatic animals that live on the water and forage for food. The water is not being properly filtered either as the murkiness is so dense you cannot see a fish 3 inches below the surface. Another observation is that the bridge rails are chipping and beginning to show signs of rust. Look, I know this is an old park, but come on, it can be cared for better than this. It is sad because this can be an absolute stunning park for everyone to enjoy. I have been considering becoming a park ranger for sometime and seeing this definitely pushes me to pursue it. Everyone deserves so much better than this. read more
