I have had Cosco Landscape do a lot of odds and ends at my house over the years - plowing, cleanups, maintaining my irrigation, replace walkways, etc. and it had always been a good experience. Excellent response, reasonable pricing, etc. When I recently did a major home reno and addition my whole yard and driveway needed to be completely redone and Domenic and his crew did a great job. Drainage work, grading, walkways, patio, retaining walls, masonry work/ repointing, foundation work, slab repairs, new asphalt driveway, irrigation system, grass seed, trees and shrubs, mulch, etc. His crew was a pleasure to work with. I get a lot of complements on how great everything looks. As with any contractor, communication and scope understanding prior to the start of any work is key to get things done on time and on budget. Even then unforeseen conditions arise and additional scope sometimes is needed. Dom and his crew continued to work with me and offered advice/ recommendations to minimize extra costs and problems. I would not recommend this company for landscape maintenance if you have anything beyond a basic lawn and shrubs. While working on my neighbor's yard, two employees entered my backyard without my permission, mowed my grass, and pulled out several ~2-foot-tall plants and wildflower seedlings from my mulched garden beds. These were intentionally planted and maintained, not weeds. The whole thing was captured on my backyard security camera. I contacted the company and the manager said he would look into it and get back to me, but I never received a follow-up or reimbursement for the replacement plants. It is disappointing that a landscaping company could not distinguish intentional plantings from weeds, and even more disappointing that they did not take responsibility afterward. read more

Cosco Landscape just did an amazing job at my house replacing an old chain link fence with a beautiful retaining wall. Part of the job was making sure I had a flat yard when work was done and they did a great job. The land sloped quite a bit on one side but they built the wall exactly as needed and then filled in the yard. The crew was awesome. They cleaned up each day and all debris was removed at the end of the job. Great value for a great job. Highly recommend them and would definitely use them again for any job - big or small. read more

The Cosco team is the best around Cambridge and Watertown for landscape contracting work. They recently rebuilt a very deteriorated wooden retaining wall, using excellent material, carefully fit and finished. Dom and his team did an amazing job on our backyard! The guys were quick, professional, and reasonable.

We had the unfornuate demise of signing a contract with this company for snow removal for the winter 2010/2011. Not only did he not show up for the majority of the storms this past Winter, Dom, who is apparently in charge (and I use the phrase loosely), copped an attitute every time we called to inquire why he had not come, or if he was in fact, planning on showing up to honor the contract we had with Cosco. Only on one occasion did truck come by and clear the whole driveway and shovel the walkways and that was after several phone calls from the trustees. The rest of the time we were shoveling snow trying to get to work, or coming home from work only to find our driveway was covered in 3 feet of snow and we had no place to park due to the parking ban. You cant count on this guy and he is very unprofessional. I don't think we'll miss him. read more

Short Form: Cosco Landscaping did fine masonry work, but only so-so fence work. Like many contractors, we had to push them on details they would have rather ignored. They added charges to the final bill without warning. When we disagreed with the charges, Domenic escalated to name calling and threats of property damage instead of listening to what we were saying. Longer form: We hired Cosco Landscaping to install a new curb cut, driveway, patio, and fences on our property. There were many of the small frustrations and corrections that I expect in dealing with contractors, but they were generally resolved. Eg: The patio was first installed as larger than the size on the diagram. They kept not putting fence posts places where the fence was going to turn. They didn't put the requested pattern of brick on the patio. Most of these were resolved when pointed out. It felt like Domenic was not good at listening to the details we thought were important, and instead wanted to try to make the space roughly match what he thought we wanted, without asking when he was unsure what we wanted. The brickwork on the driveway is nice and was relatively quickly completed. There were delays in the fence install, and the final work was not done until October after starting in July. Then the final bills came. There were over $1k of extra charges, which hadn't been mentioned until the bill, for things that we felt were in the original contract. For example, one charge was $650 for cobblestone edging. Domenic argued that the contract said "plastic edging", but the contract said "edging". We had had discussions on edging both before and after signing the contract, including how we would want stone, and Domenic never said anything like "that will cost about $600 extra", or told us that he hadn't included that in the contract. Domenic's argument for why we should pay appeared to be that he had costs he didn't include in the contract so we should pay them. He didn't argue that he had told us about these costs and what they would be, or that he couldn't have anticipated them and included them in the contract. We felt this was extortionary behavior. I tried to express that we were surprised by these charges, had been under the impression this work was covered by the contract, and expected "extras" to have had their prices disclosed and discussed while the work was ongoing. Domenic reiterated that he had spent money so we should pay for it, then, while sounding progressively more angry, escalated to implying I was naive, calling me unreasonable and difficult to work with*, and threatening to come onto our property and rip out the work he had done. By the time he made this final threat, he was angry enough that we thought there was a real chance he meant it. We offered to pay half of the charges, even though we thought they were not reasonable, because we were clearly not convincing each other. Domenic refused this. He did not offer a counter solution. (He did agree to go so far as to drop $350 of the $1280 extra charges, and claimed that this was a fair compromise because there were four line items and he was dropping two of them.) In the end, we decided to pay his roughly $1k extra bill, because we were tired of fighting with him. *When asked, the only specifics he could cite for why I was difficult to work with were that I took "15 minutes" to make decisions, and that I didn't tell his crew they had the patio size wrong, ie, different than the written diagram, until after they had laid bricks. Note: Since many of Domenic's responses seem to be read Angie's List, I think it's worth mentioning that I have submitted a similar review to Angie's List. read more

We wanted to go local so we contacted this company for an estimate for services. The owner was arrogant and full of himself. It was clear he doesn't need or want the work, because we were treated very poorly we decided to continue to look for a company that valued our business and did not treat us like they were "doing us a favor". Anyone reading their positive reviews on Angie's list and wondering why such a disparity, should know that Cosco advertises on their site therefore Angies List will not post negative reviews for their advertisers. I would rate Cosco Landscape Co of Watertown MA at a big fat ZERO. They charged us more than our original quote. They did landscaping work and said that they would not guarantee the lawn unless I put in an irrigation system, which I did and that summer when the lawn failed the owner said that there was nothing they could do that it was a hot summer. The soil that they used was loaded with rocks. I had the plumbing department inspector in from my town and was informed that the irrigation system was installed improperly and I had to hire a plumber to come in and install the irrigation system properly at a hefty fee. I explained what I wanted to have done in the landscaping and my directions were not followed. I had a blue stone walkway installed, there was a large blue stone paver installed with a crack and had to fight to have it removed and replaced. Last summer I corrected the landscaping in the back yard and this summer I will be replacing the soil and redoing the landscaping in the front yard properly. I regret the day that I hired Cosco Landscape Co of Watertown MA. read more

We had some asphalt work and a brick walk to install left over from a previous contractor who had passed away mid project. We didn't find out that the previous contractor had gone out of business until late August when so many contractors are already booked. We had a few come to see us about finishing the work. Dominic was by far the most professional. He showed up with a clip board and measuring tools and actually took notes unlike the others. His manner was cordial, professional and he seemed to really listen to our ideas while also making helpful suggestions. Despite how busy they were the front walk was done fairly soon after that. The men did beautiful work. They also thought really carefully about my handicapped mother's needs not just now but in the future and made a suggestion that not only saved money but would work for the future. My mother back tracked on the design in the middle and a discussion ensued. Dominic was patient and flexible throughout. The final result was absolutely beautiful! The second walkway required them to pave from the side of the porch to an existing driveway and they did a nice job. I would have liked the edges a little smoother, but overall it was soundly done. Around the same time they were working we had another contractor working on our roof. The roofing contractor had made gouges in an existing sidewalk. When we mentioned it to the roofer they just told us to get a blow torch and didn't offer to fix them. I asked Dominic if his team could fix them and he said when they got some time they would come back and do it. They didn't include it in the bill and after I month or so I thought that maybe he had forgotten which was fine as it wasn't their mistake and they hadn't charged us. But one day in November in the freezing rain two of his men showed up with a blow torch and spent considerable time fixing the gouges! They did a very good job and they still never charged us for it. Cosco was great. Dominic was responsive and thorough, walked me through all phases of the process. We had sod and irrigation installed in our back yard, as well as a stone path to our back porch. It looks great, the cost was reasonable and I appreciated the patience displayed in the beginning while I got quotes from other companies, requested referrals, etc. The crew was polite and well managed. Most importantly, they did a fantastic job, completed in the time I was advised (1 week) and cleaned up on the way out. No major issues. Only thing I am waiting for is to have a hole drilled in my foundation (for piping on the irrigation) filled in. It's not a large hole but was a forgotten detail. Domenic finally fixed my deck after I sent him a 93A letter threatening to sue him. It's funny how I emailed him over the course of several months but couldn't get a response but as soon as I sent him an email threatening to sue him, I got a call back within 20 minutes looking to resolve the problem. But now we have another issue with Cosco and Domenic. They came to our property to remulch back in May 2010. We had not heard from them asking us if we want to use them for our landscaping and I left it at that, thinking that maybe they knew that the business relationship was not working out anymore. But then all of a sudden, they showed up on a May afternoon to remulch. I immediately call Domenic to tell him guys to stop and they did. Then later that afternoon, I emailed Domenic to tell him that our condo association is terminating all services with Cosco until further notice just so that everyone is on the same page. Domenic called me later that evening to tell me he was "upset" and that he felt like he "lost money" so I asked him how much he wants to be compensated for the partial work he performed. He said $50 and I agreed. But it was not until December 2010 that Domenic sent us a bill for the services back in May. And instead of charging us $50, he charged us $60. Just yesterday, I received another bill from Cosco for the $60 PLUS $6.69 in finance charges because the bill was over 90 days past due. I wrote to Domenic telling him that the bill is over 90 days past due not because we received the bill and sat on it but because he waited 7 months to send us a bill. I also told him that I will file another complaint with the Better Business Bureau and I will send him another 93A letter for his false and deceptive acts unless he contacts me to resolve this. It's only $10 more than what we agreed on, but we already feel cheated for paying him last winter for a really poor snow plowing job. And he really can't go around charging people more than what was agreed upon and tacking us with fees that are unjustified. read more

Our experience with Cosco Landscape began well, and they did a good job clearing small trees and bushes from our yard. But things quickly deteriorated when we tried to resolve serious problems with the quality of other work. Cosco had agreed to replace six inches of our soil with new loam from a reputable supplier; but we received a truckload of debris-ridden "soil" from an excavator (containing chunks of glass, nails, large rocks, metal, etc.). We gave Domenic Cosco many opportunities to resolve this issue fairly; however, he was uncooperative, and behaved in a highly unprofessional manner. We finally got a portion of our money back after threatening to sue him. read more

Emailed them to help me out with snow removal. Never received a reply back. Plus their drivers think they own the road by cutting everyone off during/after a snowstorm. We needed our driveway repaved and sloping done. Dom was always quick to answer my calls and questions. It was late in the season and he was careful not to work on in climate days. The driveway came out great. A few minor adjustments are needed this year due to the weather and time of the year and he said no problem.
