Their arborists know their stuff, they explained all the ins and outs of specific tree species, made recommendations, and worked with us to make us satisfied. Their crew was amazing. I'm afraid I gave them years of business and all for nothing. They recommended annual anti-fungal treatments for my trees and they didn't work. So, they recommended removing three fruit trees. They did not mention that my town has a tree warden, that one needs a permit to remove trees larger than 8" in diameter, that there are stiff penalties for not complying. I only found out by accident and when I asked them about it they were flippant - "yeah the homeowner needs to do that..." like it never occurred to them to let me know. I have never experienced a contractor/tradesman not letting me know about needing a permit, rolling it into the cost and just doing the work. The penalties could have been in the thousands. Their arborist always seemed like he would rather be elsewhere. Never took ownership of the work. Never supervised the guys who actually came out to do the work. Didn't follow up unless I called him. this firm has a fancy website with a form to fill out if you have a question. I did so and got the standard auto reply that the message was received, etc. I soon got an email from someone there named Pierre or Pat, I forget, asking me to call. I did but then got the standard message from ATT that I could not connect. I did this 3 times. I then emailed to report that. This morning I again emailed. It has been one day and still nothing. That is unacceptable customer service. I will not be using them. read more

They charge a $125 fee to visit the site. Then they schedule an appointment. That would all be fine, but they don't disclose the fee on their Yelp page or on the website. So they make the prospective customer waste time filling out lead forms and taking calls. When they could save that work by simply disclosing the fee up front. Disappointing. read more

Followed by this voice mail: Good morning, this is Brady from barratry Service. East was calling to follow up on your inquiry for Tree Service in the at your property in Reading off. We're currently scheduling site visits 4 to meet with the Arbors for early October and the way that we offer to let you know beforehand live way that we operated that we have you meet with the certified Arborist review off of work. He'll walk the property with you and make a recommendation then from there. If it makes sense you receive a proposal for you email within 3 to 5 business days and now but this type of visit we do charge $65. If you decide to move forward with the project that $65 is credited towards the final invoice. If that's something that you like to move forward with. Please give us a call back and we can set up a time for you to meet with one of our certified Arbors. They are amazing. They took down a 20 ft sycamore maple tree from a tight spot. I found them on Angie's List, where they have mostly A's. Alden cut down my tree, with the help of two other people, Jeremiah and Orlando. Trumball showed up to help load the chipper. The tree was down and chipped in about 2 hours. We have used several tree services for limbing and taking down damaged trees. However, when it came to the health of our trees and ornamentals we wanted expert arborists so we called Barrett Tree Services East. Keith, a certified arborist, came out to our property to look over our trees and shrubs. We were most concered with a huge and very grand old Sugar Maple in our front yard. We have owned our home only a few years but noticed it struggling last year. Keith advised us that it was getting closer to the end of it's life but that there were some things we could do to try and extend it's time by deep root biostimulants. He walked our property with me and gave me advice on all of our trees, some ornamentals. His crew came out to do some pruning and taming of some birch trees, a well as all other trees on our property. We use Barrett for insect and scale damage prevention & fertilization as well as limbing and maintenance. Everyone we have come into contact with is professional and courteous. No work performed, but this review is based on customer service. We have two very, very tall Norway Maples in our yard. After a storm, a large section of the tree fell into our neighbors yard. Upon inspection, it was decided the entire tree should come down ASAP! No brainer ? It was going to take 2.5 weeks for an 'arborist' to even come to my property to look at the tree for a quote. Long story short, they simply weren't interested. We have since gotten quotes and have had the tree removed by another company. I would NEVER go to these people for quotes. This was the worst experience I've ever had with a tree company. I hired them to remove a branch. When they arrived they were not prepared to remove the branch even though I was assured that they could. The crew knew nothing about pruning and destroyed several of my flowering bushes. I was told the Manager would contact me regarding the removal of the branch but that never happened. read more

I'm afraid I'm very disappointed in the service I have received. The hedge was not trimmed back, as was promised and the men trampled our above ground vegetable gardens. Deep large boot-prints were made in all 3 beds and replanting was required. We paid nearly four hundred dollars to get this work done. Not only are we being left with work that I will now have to do on our own, but the aforementioned trampling of the gardens has made even more work for us to do. We received a phone call apology after calling to complain, but simply acknowledging the misdeed on the garden was hardly comforting, and now I have seen they didn't even finish the work that was contracted. I could have done this work myself like I have every year in the past but assumed it was worth paying for it to be done by professionals for a change. It's out hard for me to say that is the case at this point. I can't in clear conscience recommend your service to anyone at this point, it was a simple job, that was handled carelessly. What trust would I have that should a more important job be handled correctly? It seems that it was not deemed worth the workers time to do this right and with respect for the feelings of the people who live here and have to look at their results. No refund or offer to fix the damage or continue the work has been offered after multiple complaints in writing and via phone. read more

Overall, the BTSE team led by Alden did a great job - they took down 20 hemlock trees (which were either infected/dead), trimmed a large maple in the front yard, and trimmed a white oak in the backyard (removed three ominous branches hanging over our roof). The job took about 6 hours in total, and we were quoted/charged a fair price for high quality work (Keith B stopped by a few weeks earlier to assess the total work and total costs). My only gripe was that since the job took about 6 hours - the BTSE team was originally supposed to arrive between 12:30 PM and 1:30 PM, but the prior job took longer than anticipated - the BTSE team arrived at 2 PM, worked past sunset and wrapped up the work, including grinding the stumps, around 8 PM. Given the limited amount of light available, the BTSE team did not do a great job cleaning the mess that was left behind from the removed hemlock trees. I spent about two hours the next day raking up hemlock tree debris/branches, wood chips, etc. read more

These folks came over to completely take down two huge maple trees, a 60+ foot one which was dead due to girdling by a canker and the other from a badly trimmed branch rotting the tree from the side (it was like that when I bought the property). They did an immaculate job. The trees were taken down without any damage to fencing or surrounding plantings and the stumps were ground down as well as possible without damaging any surrounding trees. They swept off the wood chips from the patio and cleaned up after themselves as well as could be expected. They were gracious and polite through the whole process and very accommodating of the scheduling and I would definitely call these guys first for any further jobs I have. My next door neighbor who watched a lot of it also commented how good these folks were at their job. read more

I could not recommend these guys any higher. I called in to have two large Catalpas removed and stumped as well as pruning back two large Silver Maples. Trumbull showed up for the initial assessment and was extremely courteous and knowledgeable about the trees. He explained the dangers associated with the Catalpas and explained exactly what they would be doing when they returned for the job. On the day of the job, the guys were prompt and worked very quickly! In addition, they also called me out to confirm any decision that wasn't initially agreed upon. Barrett is great at what they do and I'd highly recommend them to anyone needing tree work. I scheduled a tree removal in December 2014, before all this crazy snow in February 2015. That didn't deter them in the least. They cut through 4 feet of snow in my yard to get to the tree and had no problem whatsoever removing it. The team arrived at my house on time and were extremely efficient and careful. By the end of the day, the trees looked beautiful, and the yard was totally cleared of debris. I had called around to a few tree removal services to remove 4 large, over 50 foot trees that were between my house and my neighbors. I met with Trumbull, and what a nice guy, and provided me with a quote on the spot. Other companies took almost a week to get back to me with a quote. And for a very reasonable price, they removed all four of the trees, and trimmed up the 2 remaining as well as my neighbors (with his permission as well). The crew were all friendly, efficient and safe! Such a great experience and could not be happier. It was getting overgrown and branches were falling off; I had to give it a good "haircut" but I was afraid to hurt or kill it. You can't get better service than what Trumbell provides.I have used him several times, and have recommended him to a bunch of people. Even my day care provider had glowing results. The first time I used him I had moved into a house where the previous owner had not been able to maintain the yard for several years. Trumbell went around the yard and told me where trees could be saved and where they needed to come out. He would up creating a space in my yard that I did not know I have, and the house is warmer with the sun now. Great guys, and they do a fantastic job.
