This has been my favorite local restaurant. Recently Cosimos did a major remodeling, and changed the menu. This menu is not an improvement. Several great dishes such as the portobello spinach appetizer, the shrimp saute, the eight hour pork cacciatore have all been eliminated. The antipasto misto has been changed and is definitely not worth the price. It used to be fabulous, no more. They tweaked some of the existing dishes, again not for the better. The crispy chicken used to come with polenta, now it has mashed potatoes, which were not good. Cosimos has dropped way down on my go-to list of good local restaurants. read more

Just left Cosimos with my wife. Went to have a nice dinner but that was not the case. Was seated right away and the waitress was very good. The problem is that they are under renovation and most of the dining areas are closed. They have no bar and are only serving beer and wine but didn't have anything posted about it. Didn't find out until we were seated. That was another problem. It was in this little room which was very noisy and cramped. They also had piped in some weird techno music. My wife had the chicken special tonight and didn't like it at all. All in all not a pleasant dinner and not what we are used to. I wouldn't go back until the Reno is complete. read more

Went for a family graduation dinner. This place is top notch, awkward seating a bit but the food was so good and service was great. I had the penne al buttera and It was so delicious, perfect level of creaminess in the sauce. I also had their negroni highball and it was so good that I'm going to try my future negronis with aperol instead of Campari. My whole family loved the meal and the experience. The staff was very friendly. The food was ok, I felt the Value falls under 3 stars, the taste of the food that I received, per the dollar amount that I had paid... well, lets say that I would have rather eaten someplace else, but that is after the fact. I ordered a Pizza and their "meatball"? which, kindness of the lady taking my order, she confidently recommended it, and assured me that I would love it. so I feel bad for the next statement, I did not... .I didn't even like it. Restaurant Ambiance = 5 - Very Nice, Elegant, Beautiful Restaurant Staff = 5 - Very Nice, willing to help, polite, Courteous Restaurant food = 3 - while it wasn't bad, it had a RAGU taste about it. Price = the food wasn't the most expensive, while I had paid 14.00 for the Pizza, and 12.00 for the meatball Value = for the amount that I paid, the portion that I received, and the flavor of those portions. The food is just average, but the price you pay certainly is not, for the money you pay, you should get a more pleasing meal. read more

Ok this is an update to my last review!! The experience we had this time around at Cosimo's was REALLY GREAT!!! Which I was especially glad, as we had a friend with us! The manager Christine contacted me and sincerely apologized for my last experience and asked me to give them another chance. I decided to do just that, as I'd said the food wasREALLY good last time! So we walk in (just like we were last visit, plus a friend) & this time, we were VERY warmly greeted and immediately shown to our table, despite it being weekend hours. Our server, was VERY sweet, kind and attentive...sry I don't recall her name. We ordered our food, which arrived very quickly, hot, fresh & Oh WOW DELICIOUS!!! Some ordered the "personal pizza" (I think it's called, not sure), various varieties there are... and each were FANTASTICALLY impressed!! I ordered the Portabella mushroom app,.....WOW....WORTH EVERY CALORIE AND THEN SOME!!!!! I sent the Chef (via server) a compliment on all things, esp Portabella!! I tried one of their salads, WOW!!! the portions on all were GREAT IN EVERY WAY!!!! The service was WONDERFUL!!! From start to finish, everything was PERFECT!!! I'm so glad I did give them another chance, it goes to show that sometimes a place can have an off night but easily redeem itself by such superb service, food, & overall customer service. It's good to see that this business REALLY does care about it's customers!!! Thanks Christine & staff, we'll be back again for sure, & we've made many referrals to our friends, for Cosimo's already! Down to earth, upscale-feeling, family-owned Italian eatery that has my attention, and of late, my cravings on tilt. The lobster baguette and the fiery snapper are my favorites. The last time I ate at Cosimo's was in 2015, and food was fresh and unbelievable. Unfortunately I visited 11/17/19 ,and I was so disappointed to see how things had changed. To begin, the waitress's uniforms looked like a neighborhood greasy spoon and, in my opinion, uncomfortable. When my boyfriend and I walked into the restaurant, the host was sweeping the front. I didn't really care but it wasn't a good look. It's supposed to be an upscale restaurant, "Fine Dining". My boyfriend is the head chef with a prestigious restaurant, so he knows food and it's hard to impress him but I was excited to go out for his birthday. I remember Cosimo's as a dim lit, romantic, classic restaurant. It is not. The staff uses informal language and will begin breaking down the dining room over an hour and a half before closing time. We were seated in the back dining room. The entire restaurant was brightly lit; it wasnt the romantic setting I was hoping for. Our table was in the back corner near a set of bathrooms which we could smell anytime the door was opened. I ordered the cheese ravioli; once a homemade and personal favorite. Dating a chef has it's advantages , but it's much harder to mask low quality food like frozen ravioli. I was so disappointed in the taste, I sent it back. There was an attempt to make up for the meal when I ordered a small Caesar in it's place. By then , however, my dinner companion was finished with his food and I had lost my appetite. It was their tiramisu that made me fall in love with the dessert. In that area, they at least didn't let me down. Our server was great. Our server Michelle was really trying to make up for all the disappoints, but I will only be returning for their cappuccinos and tiramisu. Even the coffee my boyfriend ordered, as an after dinner beverage, came burnt. I would rate 2 stars but I'm still planning to go back for dessert though I doubt it will be this year. read more

We ordered takeout - lobster baguette, crispy mozzarella, calamari and cheesecake. The food was plentiful for the price (the reason for the 2 stars) but subpar. Lobster had a texture unlike any we had ever eaten - perhaps frozen and then microwaved but we had to eat it because we were starving and the calamari was like rubber and mozzarella was extremely salty. The cheesecake was mushy although the cherry topping was delicious. We ended up throwing away half of the mozzarella and the calamari basically inedible. So don't know if our experience was representative of Cosimo's food --perhaps we should have ordered the pizza but right now hungry and out of pocket. read more

My friends and I had the pleasure of Sabatha being our server this evening at Cosimo's. She was polite, attentive, prompt, and smiled. For one who enjoys a dining experience good service is half of it. Good job Sabatha! My friend and I shared the Lobster Risotto. The taste was undeniably comforting. The spice was just enough the hug the palate and the lobster was cooked perfectly, holding its hearty flavor. I would recommend it to anyone craving sea food. read more

We went here on a Saturday night because we were staying in Newburgh and saw some good reviews. I'm not sure what the rave is about...The staff was very nice; our waitress checked on us often, no complaints there. It's just that I didn't think the food was all that great. We ordered chicken parmesan and linguine w/ white clam sauce. They were just o.k. Oh, and we also ordered the fried calamari too. I was put off by how fishy it smelled when it first came to the table. I dunno, I usually like calamari. Maybe this is not the restaurant's fault. Maybe my nephew ruined calamari for me forever because of the time he told me he had to dissect a squid in school and he went outside and barfed...Thanx Fischer.. The music seemed a bit too loud where we were too. But maybe it was just as well. We were seated a table away from an elderly couple who was out on a date but the woman was chewing the man out something fierce. Something about him asking her to marry him then backing out...But man, she was going up one side of him then down the other like the WHOLE TIME we were there, and though we were trying to have our own conversations, it was hard not to overhear even with the too loud music!! (Hey, I just had an idea-maybe the staff turned up the music on purpose?) I was really starting to feel for the guy. At one point, I was like, "It's time for an intervention." No, just kidding, I wouldn't dare. But really, I wanted to say, "Excuse me ma'am, I know it's none of my business, but I may have some idea why he doesn't want to marry you ...just trying to help..." : I Anyhoo..that wasn't the restaurant's fault was it? So I shouldn't have told you that..So carry on, give the place a whirl, maybe you will love it like so many seem to, and chances are that couple has called it quits and you'll never see them! We really enjoy Cosimo's On Union. It's a nice atmosphere inside and they have a nice drink selection. They have a large menu and it is always hard to pick because everything is so good. A couple of our standard choices for appetizers are the antipasto platter and the calamari. Always delish! They have specials in addition to regular menu. Someone at the table usually gets one of their amazing pizzas. I tend to stick with a pasta dish and am never disappointed. They also offer a takeout special on Tuesday with huge portions. Six of us went there yesterday for a special occasion and the guest of honor, my godson who is an extraordinary young man just elevated to Second Lieutenant in the US Army (already had served two tours in Iraq at age 23) and he wanted to go there. The family lives in New Windsor and this is one of his favorite places. I read the reviews and there are some who swear by this place and some who loathe it but I don't consider anyone else's opinion. It was actually very good; our server came back several times to ask how we were doing (she actually came by too often but I suspect she was trying to provide overly attentive service). The food was excellent and portions were enormous; five of six of us took leftovers home). No complaints whatsoever. I didn't give five stars because it wasn't "over the top" but still very, very good and not overpriced (not cheap by any means but not egregiously high). read more

This is genuinely the worst service i have ever experienced in my life. Not only did the woman start my phone call by just saying "hello" and waiting for me to respond, she confirmed my phone call multiple times and still got it incorrect. When i waited over an hour for my food, i called back to see the progress of my order and the same woman came at me with hostile energy and made it seem like it was my fault for not answering my phone after never receiving a call to come get my food. I now have to wait another 40 minutes for my meal. To top it off, the woman hung up in me when i asked for her name. Will never be going back :). read more

my family was in a predicament on Sunday 3/17/24. we had a reservation at Fusion on Union for 14 people for my granddaughters baptism luncheon. when we arrived they LIED and said we canceled it. I pointed out how they crossed out my reservation in their book. The manager refused to take any accountability or even offer any apology. Incompetent and rude! They took a reservation for a larger party and cancelled ours Manager didn't care that we were all there. They made no effort at all. We made a call to Cosimos and explained our situation they were so sorry we went through that and told to come right over. They bent over backwards to accommodate our large party. Within minutes we were pleasantly seated. everyone was wonderful at the establishment. their food, as always, was excellent. I just want to thank all that made, what would have been a disastrous issue, a great addition to our very special day. If you're looking for great food, reasonable pricing, and pleasant staff, go to Cosimos. You won't be disappointed. read more

Wonderful service. The olives served in the evoo bread dip were pretty scrumptious and meaty, and the house bread tries its best to tempt you to fill up before your meal comes. We wanted a lighter appetizer so we ordered Italian long hots to top our bread with - highly recommend! Tear off a bite of crusty bread, dip in evoo and top with a slice of pepper. So good. The wines by the glass are great quality and reasonably priced. Cavolfiore with sausage and chard and roasted cauliflower and rigatoni was quite simply one of the best pasta dishes I've had in a very long time. There's a touch of sweetness from the roasted tomatoes and sausage, with some nuttiness from the cauliflower. Just a mouth party. The seafood fra diavolo was also excellent with very fresh tasting shrimp and calamari and clams in a light and spicy tomato sauce. I love this place. Too bad I'm just traveling through town. Lemon sorbet served in a lemon shell was the perfect ending. read more

We had a small dinner party for our Daughter's 21st Birthday. We called last minute in hopes of getting some space at Cosimo's on Union. Spoke with Cristine and were immediately put at ease. We were lucky enough to hear the Wine Cellar was available. She was great. Very accommodating with every request. The word "NO" is not in her vocabulary. When we arrived we met Hailee. She took excellent care of us all afternoon. Very professional, polite and fast. Again, they don't say "NO" at Cosimo's. Just "Sure, absolutely, right away!" Can't say enough about Hailee. Looking forward to another party. We will request Hailee. We are Italians and are picky. The food was excellent. Fresh, Hot and generous portions. We really loved the atmosphere and privacy of the Wine Cellar. Highly recommend Cosimo's for a party, or for lunch or dinner. The value for the money is excellent. Long time customers. I had a solid dinner here. We ordered the basic Italian Fare. Pasta, Salads and a pizza. Everything was good. Our server was attentive and the food came out as expected. The location is nice and the ambiance casual. Nothing in the meal jumped out as amazing. The cocktails are just the standard metered out and expensive type. We did not have any deserts which I heard are pretty good. I know this review is pretty vanilla, I apologize. I feel as if I have had this same experience in multiple restaurants in multiple cities. I called several times to the store with no call back... It's unfortunate that I am writing a bad review, but very disappointed. We just moved here from California and were so excited to have good Italian food, that didn't happen. We ordered take out while having a cocktail, the bartender was pretty nice, but she was clearly distracted by eating off of another customers plate of food and chatting with them. I had asked her specifically for bread to be packed up with the rest of our meal, didn't realize until we got home that there was no bread at all. The ravioli was way to salty and the pizza crust was undercooked. I have been a patron of Cosimo's for years. Too many to count. Food is exceptional and 99% of the time service is top notch. Tonight I was a bit disappointed. Showed up about an hour before closing. Ordered as soon as we sat to try to be sensitive to the kitchen. Sat next to some folks who sat right after us and they took a bit longer to order their dinners. The server repeatedly reminded the table next to us that the restaurant was closing at 9:30 and kitchen was closing at 9:10 and rushed them to get their food order in. We were able to finish our dinner but as soon as we finished dinner we were rushed out not even offered a cup of coffee or dessert. (It was my birthday and would have loved a little sweet treat). That being said I think we can all agree that things are not cheap and when going out as a patron of ANY establishment I don't expect to be rushed out just because the doors need to close. I've worked in the service industry for years and if a table we're to be sat 5 minutes before closing, I was expected to wait on that table as if they were the first table of the night. I have spent a lot of money here, both eating out, catering, ordering out, private parties....just very disappointed with the service this evening. If I'm going to spend $150 on dinner, I expect to not be rushed out of the restaurant. If the staff wanted to leave that bad they should have told us they were closed before we sat down. To reiterate, food is exceptional and I've always had great experience. Simply posting this as a constructive criticism.... let people sit, eat and enjoy dinner without being rushed out because a table was sat too close to closing time. Very disappointed. read more

I recently celebrated my wife birthday at this venue and the service was absolutely amazing. The manager took care of my request to place flowers and rose petals on the table. It made my wife day.
