Our first visit was really, really good. Tight for for a group of 6 (including 1 toddler) but the specials menu was lengthy and each of us ordered something from that menu. Delicious and return visit worthy. For our second visit, the family now included an infant. While we had no reservation, at 5:15 pm the joint was empty with the exception of a single table of 3. Literally within seconds of walking in, we were promptly turned away. No checking the book. Nearly zero engagement with us. Just a curt, "We're completely booked. But you can eat at our sister location next door." Yeah. No. Our money and generous tipping habits went instead to Cosimo's where families are not just welcomed, but treated with care and consideration. We highly recommend the same for other families. read more

How do I even begin. Location and staff. Splendid. Never before have I felt so welcome in a new environment. As one native United States of American and one ethnic first generation Indian, we were awestruck by the amicability and kind heartedness of the wait staff. However it took them very long to take orders and were not attentive. It was a Saturday night so they may have just been busy. Moving towards the food now, it is difficult to keep a pleasant humor even thinking about it. The scallops and artichokes were an enigma. The taste of neither the scallops nor the artichokes bore any resemblance to what anyone with a brain and a functioning palette would even begin to think they tasted like. I didn't even want to eat them and scallops are my favorite food. Personally I think it was breading on the scallops but whatever it was I will never repurchase. A symphony in blending flavor and artistic nuance. They were terrible but well presented. As for the mains. The ravioli was incredible, a religious experience, even. Except for the edges which were horrendous. I am a patient woman, having grown up in the proud nation of Uzbekistan, but even I could not begin to fathom what happened to the edges. They were pretty hard unless it was supposed to be al dente then it was impeccably done. Hats off. Overall the cheese ravioli was definitely the best meal we had all night. What can I even say about the pesto pasta with grilled chicken. For over 20 dollars, I was thoroughly let down. The pasta gave me the impression of reinforced concrete, both in presentation and in texture. It was a challenge eating it. On further analysis, the reason it hurt so much is because of what could have been. In a closer examination of the sauce and the pasta itself, I saw glimpses of greatness. Untapped potential that turned what was frankly just a bad dish into one of the greatest sorrows of my life. The texture was very hard and the chicken lacked any form of seasoning and the color blended in with a pasta and seems baked rather than grilled. It brings me no joy to write all of this. When she told the server, the server responded, "did you see a hair in the dish?" As if questioning her integrity. Weird move. It was a weird response and the server was on edge from there. Separately, I ordered the bacon (or prosciutto?) wrapped shrimp with apricot. It sounded amazing. I did not like it-- I found it to be bland and the apricot cream(?) had a weird aftertaste to me. When the waiter asked how the meal was I told her that I didn't like the shrimp. I wasn't expecting money back but her response again was weird and on edge. The radicchio and arugula salad I ordered was okay. Since everyone's reviews seem so positive, perhaps this experience was a fluke but I won't be going back. As a first stop on our vacation for dinner, this quaint restaurant did not disappoint. The complementary bread is accompanied with marinated eggplant, red peppers, and Parmesan cheese. We received a gift card here for Christmas. We put off going due to the long list of crash and burn restaurants that have previously occupied this beautiful space. We are sorry we did. The place is charming, in an old bank from the last century (perhaps 2 centuries). It has a very comforting feel aesthetically, but it is very tight, and loud from the bar area (which doesn't bother us). Our waiter was Dave, who was very attentive, polite and knowledgeable. The food is off-the-hook. Every course was delectable. Most places provide some bread and dipping sauce or oil. These guys roll out an antipasto on the house that will knock your socks off! My wife doesn't eat bread or processed meats, but even she imbibed in the feast. I ordered the long stemmed artichoke appetizer, which absolutely blew me away. So tender, buttery, flavorful and delicate. For an entree I had the chicken parm, which i usually use as a barometer for any new Italian restaurant. Absolutely fantastic! Two huge cooked to perfection pieces of chicken that were scrumptious. When we were paying the bill, Dave (I hope I got the name right) provided a delicious assortment of complimentary fruit, as well as two shots of sambuca. Bottom line is the place is off the hook, and we will DEFINITELY be back!!! Only ONE complaint, and it did not involve us, but did look problematic....a seat in the vicinity of the kitchen and bathroom occupied by a couple continuously had staff rubbing up against them as there was hardly any room to pass between tables, they had to practically stand on their toes to squeeze through without rubbing against them. Avoid that one seat and you have a keeper of fine Italian dining! ******edit 3/4/2018***** We SO wanted this to be our next local favorite, given the wonderful experience described above (8 days ago). As any of the staff at Painters Tavern across the street will testify, we are as loyal and as generous a customer can be (been going there every week for 30 years). We started off on the right foot, with the same delicious on-the-house antipasto. Things declined with my appetizer, the above mentioned long stemmed artichokes. They resembled NOTHING what I ate last week. The before mentioned tender, buttery and delicate was tonight congealed and rubbery (as if having sat in a refrigerator overnight). It's was also swimming in cheese, which was absent from last week (perhaps a masking technique as the artichokes were clearly wilted). My wife ordered for her dinner the house salad with grilled chicken and the dressing (some sort of balsamic) on the side. The waiter asked ok, the Caesar salad with chicken? We said, no, house salad, grilled chicken, dressing on the side. No pen or paper to take down this complicated order. This is when we became PO'd. What my wife received was a Caesar salad with chicken. The waiter apologized and removed the (wrong) order. When the (what we thought) correct order arrived, it was a house salad with chicken. Except the chicken was OBVIOUSLY from the previous dish. It was cold, and LOADED with Caesar dressing (which doesn't exactly go with balsamic). When this was brought to the attention of the waiter, they tried a THIRD time to make a simple order the right way. We said no thanks, and asked for the bill. My wife was visibly upset, as she did not have anything to eat the entire time. Whoever the bartender is at this establishment, he seems to be the only professional in the place, HE came over to the table to inquire if everything was ok. Then the shock of the bill. I understand businesses do not make money giving food/drinks away........that being said, we each had two drinks, I had an appetizer and an entree. They deleted the cost of the salad (which my wife never received). Eighty one dollars. Eighty one dollars. Could have been a lot easier to swallow had they taken ONE drink off the bill in good faith. Nothing. Zip. Bare in mind my wife had nothing to eat. On our way out the door, the bartender seemed concerned at our situation. Our advice, find a business suiting your skill set....you're wasting your professionalism on a losing establishment. Oh, and perhaps the waiters should invest in pen/paper. This whole debacle probably could have been averted had it not been for bad memory. Five stars to one star (one week). Won't be back. Shame. read more

Absolutely loved my experience here! I came here for dinner with my parents on my birthday and was so delighted. From the moment you walk in, you can feel how cozy it is - perfect for a nice Italian meal ahead. You start off with some homemade antipasto for the table which I thought was such a nice touch! We got the eggplant as an appetizer which I was nervous about since I'm VERY particular with eggplant, but love it when it's done right. This was by far the best eggplant (aside from my own) that I've had at a restaurant. I honestly wish I had ordered another! It's all cut and made to order, and you can tell. We were very impressed by the specials, we had pappardelle with scallops and spinach in a sherry sauce, the breaded pork chop and the always classic penne alla vodka. Everyone was so pleased with their dish, but we were ready for dessert! The limoncello cake was amaaaazing, so fresh and so full of flavor. Last but certainly not least, the service was impeccable. I've never given a bad review on yelp due the fact that I know it can have a significant impact on someones business. I'm a small business owner myself and I work in the service industry, but I feel like I need to share this. My experience here last night was very very poor. My partner and I walk inside and kindly ask if we could wait for a table outside, happy to wait at the bar or wherever for one that became available. Not sure if we spoke with a host or server first, but he said we could wait at the bar and he would let us know when a table opened up and that it should be long. The bartender didn't seem happy with that choice and said "well I don't know when there will be a table outside", in a tone that insinuated that we should get a table inside. We decided not to and to stay at the bar. Even though we said we were ready to order our drink after about 5 mins and told her there was absolutely no rush, just wanted to let her know....She had an attitude and told us that we needed to give her a minute. The waiting a minute was not the issue, it was the tone and delivery of how she was speaking to us definitely left us feeling like we weren't welcome and we were bothering her, and it was much more than a minute, it was about ten (it was not that busy). It also felt like we needed to be family friends or part of some club to get the service she was giving others at the same bar. After asking the server again about 45 mins later if a table opened up outside with little acknowledgment from the bartender, He said there were two open tables. We patiently waited about another 15 mins just to transition outside. Once outside we had a lovely and very attentive server. Our appetizers were delicious, but unfortunately our main took over a half an hour to come out and the potatoes that were supposed to be scalloped were undercooked, some raw with cheese that literally tasted like it had been sitting out for days. The salmon was decent and the veggies were undercooked and seasoned. Definitely not worth $32. We told the server, and he said sorry without addressing any of our issues with management. How can a restaurant be okay with serving undercooked over priced meals, especially with an initial service that makes customers feel like they should deserve to be there instead of feeling welcomed and taken care of. We tipped the server 20% in cash because he was lovely and we had a feeling this is an ownership/management issue. Obvious to say, we will never be coming back--not even for the wine. read more

Well this time the meal service was very slow. The food was no so good, however by the time we got our food most of us lost our appetite. They served mini bottles of water. Not classy! They were not served in glasses. There was a table that was in and out way before us. We were a party of 10. I know it takes longer. We had reservations for 10 at 7 pm. We did not leave initial after 10. The waiter was strong in the beginning. It sounds like it's the kitchen was understaffed. They need to get their act together . We overheard other patrons saying they do not like outsiders. This is such a negative attitude. Worthy old-world Italian atmosphere with excellent cocktails, wines by the glass, and cuisine. The chef and kitchen are wonderful in their innovation and in their ability to bring out the very best of the tradition. A wonderful Old Fashioned and lovely glasses of Montepulciano and of Gavi, and a dessert glass of Limoncello were all perfect. We went with Pepettini's small plates and all were excellent. The asparagus, the meatballs, and the eggplant parmigiana were fantastic. The chef had such confidence in the eggplant that it came without the typically heavy dose of red sauce. And the chef was right. The eggplant parmigiana was the best we've ever had, in Italy or outside of it. Service was terrific, a warm interior space and a romantically lit outside terrace. Came here last night for my little sister's Bday dinner. Mom gets big kudos for this pick! The restaurant has quaint elegant decor and the tables are romantically set. It was a group of 5 and we all came with our appetites. Everything from the table bread smothered in Brie, to the appetizers, entree's and desserts were delicious. Not a single complaint about the food. Although the water did not have ice it was infused with fruit and mint leaves. My wife and I had just moved to the area, after living in NYC for 45 years. We felt like fish out of water. Leaving NYC, one of our fears was not being able to find quality dining experiences. Fortunately, our fears were mitigated late on a Thursday afternoon, a mere three days into our new Hudson Valley address, when we stumbled across this place, were charmed by the facade and decided to give it a try. The inside was equally charming, beautiful old world decor, feels somewhat European. The Frank Sinatra and other old jazz and world lounge music add to the ambiance. Menu is mostly Italian pastas and entrees. I ordered the pork chop, which was huge, juicy, novel in preparation, excellent. The deserts were fantastic. The wine selection is good. Service is is excellent. The owner is always out on the floor, and a short conversation soon surprisingly revealed that he is close friends with the owner of a restaurant - now closed - in the East Village that was our favorite and that we went to weekly. It turned out that we were among old friends! This is now a favorite place of ours, we go there regularly. I notice that some other reviewers have complained about being overcharged. We have had 4 experiences with an incorrect bill: 1 was overcharged, 3 were undercharged, one of those by $20. I suggest that management invest in some 21st century invoicing technology. read more

Impressed by the ambience which was classier than many other local Italian restaurants. Beer selection was poor but wine was flowing freely. Make a reservation or sit at the bar for full service. After hearing about this restaurant for years, I finally got to see if it lived up to the hype. I was so underwhelmed I'll never go back. We waited 90 minutes just for our appetizer to arrive. The main course was just ok....carrots were overcooked, potatoes were subpar and my salmon had hardly any taste. My husband and I were celebrating a special anniversary and were trying to recreate our original experience at an Italian restaurant in Germany. Francesco provided superb service and when we shared about our anniversary, he went above and beyond to recreate my favorite dish from there which I have never seen on a menu in the US. My husband and I were both pleasantly surprised at the high quality of our dishes, easily one of the best Italian culinary experiences we've had outside of Europe!! Our group's visit to Pepettini was dramatically unpleasant. We came to celebrate an upcoming wedding. When we arrived, the owner seemed wary of us but lightened when we said we'd made a reservation weeks in advance. It was the middle of their dinner rush and they seemed short staffed so we were happy to chat amongst ourselves while we waited to sit and then order. As the rush died down though, we noticed that our server was still incredibly inattentive. We waited 45 minutes to order wine for the table, then another half hour to order dinner. Throughout this time, the server went from apologetic and self-deprecating to rude and defensive. He seemed to think we were younger than we were, and treated us as though we were petulant kids. When we commented on the timing he informed us that "this is what this place is." After the meal, he offered to comp a round of drinks. By this time we'd been there for three hours and just wanted to move on with the night, so we asked if he could take that amount off the overall bill. Then it got out of hand. Our party tried to negotiate calmly with the the server but he took immediate offense. He said the owner would speak to us. A few moments later, the visibly intoxicated owner CHARGED at us. He made vocal threats and removed his shirt as he threatened the member of our party he felt most antagonistic toward. We ended up shepherding that member out a side door while pulling a table in front of us to further protect him. The owner put hands on several of the women in our group as they tried to stand between him and the member we'd helped escape. All the while, staff and other guests tried to hold him back. Everyone was shouting. They yelled at us first as though we'd instigated the fight, but then switched to de-escalating the man. Another guest offered to pay our bill (which we tried to refuse) but other guests encouraged us to leave as quickly as possible. Even the waiter was suddenly refusing our money. The cops were called and a report was filed, but they clearly supported the restaurant. This is a local hang. Outsiders should be wary of visiting. read more

What a gem! We happened by this place after an afternoon at Storm King and were immediately greeted by Carlo and made to feel right at home. The outdoor seating is lovely. Francesco is a friendly and knowledgeable server, helping us to select our wine and our food. My husband ordered the gnocchi and Francesco regretfully informed us that they had run out but would give him cavatelli instead. What a surprise when dinner arrived and we learned that the chef had made a new batch a gnocchi just for him! And it was perfection. My sea bass was served piccata style and was delicious. The dessert was yummy. I can't say enough about the service. We love when the staff have conversations with us and make us feel like part of the family. Which they did. This restaurant is the only place I can bring my extremely picky family and know that everyone is gonna have a great time and a great meal. We went here for dinner on Christmas Eve and were treated to an incredible meal and excellent service. We drank, ate, sang and danced with the incredible staff and other patrons who by all accounts were having just as good a time as us. We were made to feel like we were family back at my grandmother's house on Xmas Eve in the Bronx. Since then I've brought my mother there for Valentine's and sat there for 3 hours taking and eating. The memories I made with my family in this place are priceless and a direct result of the incredible atmosphere they've created here.
