i come in to get highlites and lowlights and my hair turned out bright orange and also yellow brassy. no differentiation betwen highlites and low lights. came back the next day for her to fix it at no charge, left with same hair colors. please note I was charged $260 dollars for a color service and the haircut was not even. skip this place, unless you are getting a haircut that grows back. I've been using this Cost Cutters for 3 years now. The stylists are friendly and do an excellent job of cutting your hair. They cater to mostly men. However, they do women's cuts and color as well. There is a huge parking lot in front shared with several businesses, but there is always plenty of parking. We were greeted by a young boy and simply asked if they had time for one more client. I sure wish he would have said no. My daughter was a trooper and endured a horrific haircut. Her hair was not sprayed wet, no product placed to ease the pain of the rudest hairstylist and most unprofessional employee/human-being. Stylist tugged on my daughters hair and looked like she wanted to punch my daughter in the face when she failed to answer a question quick enough. She asked my daughter to put her chin up twice with a tone of hatred in her voice. What fault did my daughter have that I got out of work late and rushed to take her for a cut? I can only assume after reading the other reviews that it was Ashley who was the culprit. This woman was abusive and intimidating. A true bully! Hold her accountable. My review is not the only negative one. I placed the day and time so you can trace back what two employees and boy were working. Oh forgot to mention. Wow, after reading all of the reviews realized I am not the only one to have a terrible experience with Ashley. She was downright rude with my son and me. My son is only 4 and was wanting her to go slow , When I respectfully asked that of her she says " well am not going to spend an hour cutting his hair" and then asked me to hold his head . Later as she was cutting blamed me for messing up his hard line . And also for not holding his head "firm" .I was done with her attitude and requested to switch to another stylist. Then as she cleans up she rude said " Get off my chair". I was amazed at her audacity and the way she spoke to me. The other hair stylist who then took over did a great job. She was super sweet and nice to work with. It doesn't surprise me that several others had the same experience with Ashley. I brought my 2 granddaughters in for a trim and the stylists did a great job. Both very friendly and very competent. But the story of the day originated with Kiddy, one of the stylists there who shared that she had worked there for 15 years. When she saw me waiting in the waiting area, she looked at me and asked, "Did you leave a purple coffee mug here that last time you came in?" "Whaaaat?" So here's the backstory. The last time I took the kids in for a haircut was before Christmas, and had probably taken them a time or two before that. On the last 2 visits to Austin, I noticed that my purple insulated coffee mug was not on the shelf where it was supposed to be at the kids home in Cedar Park. No one had any idea what had happened to it. I assumed it was long gone. So when Kiddy asked me if I'd left it there...I lost my mind!! She noticed I had left it there and had tried to call me, but couldn't reach me. So she took it into the back room, cleaned it and put it on a shelf. When she went into the back room and brought it out to me...my brain exploded. That is what I call customer service!!! She recognized me and realized that I was the one with the lost mug. Doesn't get any better than that. (Bit of a side story that even makes this story more amazing. I had originally booked our appointments at Great Clips but when we drove into the parking lot, I realized that it was Costcutters that we had been going to on previous appointments. So we weren't even supposed to be at Costcutters. And the rest is history. read more

Went in to only to get my ends cut, no styling, just straight across. I asked the hairstylist to do it while my hair was dry. I always get my hair cut while it is dry and straight because it is very curly and most people can't handle the curly hair. She started off by spraying water on my hair after I said no water! Once she was done cutting it was hard to tell if it was straight because part of it was curly where she got it wet. Until I got home and straighten it I could see that my hair is in a v shape, not cut across and I had to cut a piece off myself because it was way longer than the rest and stuck out. I have been getting my hair cut here for a few months now and have always gotten a good haircut by the different stylists until today. I have brought my young sons and they have received good haircuts as well. I usually go on Tuesday or Thursday to get the discount. So today my hair was cut by a high functioning zombie. I guess zombies need work too but if you want a decent hair cut choose the stylist that is not a zombie. I had her make some corrections before I left but still had long hair in areas that need to be trimmed, nothing that can't be fixed at home but still was expecting a little more. I have had worse haircuts from regular stylists. I will be back and now know not to get my haircut by the zombie. Also, the store has always been clean when I have been there. Visited the salon today to get the hair cutting done for my 7 year old daughter and myself and we were told since we didn't have an appointment we will have to wait for 3 customers ahead of us (2 waiting and 1 appointment) 30 minutes approx. waiting time and our name was added and we waited in the lounge and were left waiting for 50 minutes and their stylist Ashley took customers of her own choice that came with out appointment after us. It was very disappointing and unprofessional of her to take customers out of turn as more than 6 customers were taken but our turn didn't come and eventually we had to walk out of the place. The receptionist apologized on behalf of Ashley but hair stylist was so rude that she didn't bother to say sorry for her unprofessional attitude. I remember once as a teenager my granddad cutting my hair. He often did so when I was younger. But my hair had grown, and I wanted a grunge sort of look. Decent looking, not trashy, but grunge. He had a look on his face that said "Jarrod, men and boys are supposed to have short hair with a clean-cut look. I just don't understand you kids today." He then proceeded to cut my hair the only way he knew how, which was almost the exact opposite of what I wanted. (And just before I was about to go to a Metallica concert. Bad timing.) But hey, that was my granddad. I should have expected that. But when I pay for a haircut, I want the person to listen and try to understand my request and try to accommodate it. I am reminded of that experience when I go to cost cutters. No matter how I explain what I want (which I really don't think is that complicated, if you'll just listen and do what I request) they give a puzzled look and give me something totally different. There used to be a girl that worked here named Shannon. She was actually really good. But she is no longer there, and everyone else I've experienced does not do near as good of a job. Well, when you go to a cheap place, expect a result that reflects it. You get what you paid for. Since my experiences here are just "really bad" rather than "terribly awful", and since they are really cheap, I'm being generous and giving 2 stars instead of 1. I went today to sport clips. Today I went into Cost Cutters for a haircut. I have been here many times before with my husband but I myself have never had a haircut until today. The reason I went here instead of my usual stylist is because I recently lost a majority of my hair due to being sick. My hair has always been really long, thick and pretty so its been a pretty traumatic experience losing it. It has started growing out and was finally long enough for a pixie cut so I decided I needed to take the plunge and cut off the last remaining long strands I had left which wasn't much but it was still hard to do. I knew I could just walk in here the same day and get it cut and that I would not have to spend $45 on a haircut where as I would have had to wait until January to get in at my usual salon. I went in and checked in with the front desk guy and waited about 20 minutes. When I was called for my cut my stylist introduced herself as Haifa. She asked what I wanted and I broke down crying about my hair loss. I was really embarrassed but she stepped right up to me and embraced me in a hug and said its okay, its only hair and you have to be strong. She was very understanding and so sweet, I really appreciated the extra effort she put in with me because it was such an emotional experience for me. At the end of the cut she gave me her card and asked me to please come back to her for haircuts because she would like to be the one to give them to me while my hair grows out. I was not expecting to break down crying and I surely wasn't expecting the great amount of kindness that she showed towards me. This place had amazing service. As soon as I walked into this establishment, it was incredibly clean and organized. I enjoyed the conversation with the staff as I waited only a few minutes for my haircut. I was assisted by a young woman who had very pretty hair and I can't recall her name. But she definitely knew her stuff. I wasn't sure what to do with my hair, but she took charge and it came out great! She also recommended some amazing Paul Mitchell products to help with hair maintenance as I swim frequently (chlorine has damaged my hair). I can't think of any complaint, honestly! 1st, because I LOVE THIS SALON and have been going twice monthly for over 4 years - I was thinking WHAT???, why didn't this facility have a better rating. In reviewing, I'm seeing that all but 1 dubious rating was some years ago, one even being 10 years ago in 2007. Rather outdated. One was from a cantankerous customer (or perhaps a kid creating havoc), who was upset they didn't give him an added discount since their name was "Cost Cutters". Sigh! Another described a service they don't even do, so must have been posted incorrectly. I seldom ever see unhappy clientele and in my 4 years going there, the few I've seen were quickly remedied. I have been amiss to not take time out to give accolades where they are deserved. My stylist is Haifa. I say she is an Architect: parts stylist, creator, psychologist, ambassador and just really accomplished and nice. She runs a competent shop, and many of the stylists have been there the full 4 years I've been going. The stylists here have become like extended family: Kitty, Brittany, Ashley and others. Connie, after many years here, just took a brand new shop near her home. This is not a fly by night shop and has a huge repeat customer clientele. I love going, getting my hair fixed. A shampoo, style and cut, or a full or partial dye, all are completed in a cheery atmosphere and done well. Kudo's to the Cost Cutter team at Avery Ranch!! read more

Well, that is what this place is, a hair-cutting place. I visited the Avery Ranch location a month or so ago. I went in and sat down and provided the "Hair Care Professional" some unsolicited feedback.."the name of this place doesn't really sound like a hair cutting place, I almost didn't even see it".. She remarked in a huffy, condescending voice.."well, you must not have paid attention to the flyer's we sent out".. What I originally wanted to say was, "the name of your business is Fawking stupid, who came up with this piece of crap.. Cost Cutters? What kind of Costs are you cutting, Advertising and Branding costs".. Screw the flyer's.. If you get a flyer in the mail for a some business with a retarded name, does that really help? So after she had communicated that I was actually the moron that didn't get it by viewing their Top Notch advertising flyers I really didn't know what else to say.. Even those who got called were puzzled and it ended up getting awkward for everyone. Needless to say we walked out. I am highly disappointed with this place! The only thing I was happy about with my experience was that Ashley was nice, she gave me a full set of highlights and did a great job! I was very satisfied with it! But while I was there another stylist named Connie was arguing with Ashley, and would constantly pick on her, or make a side comment directed towards her. It made me feel so uncomfortable sitting there with them going back and forth at it. Ashley was very sweet, but I did not like the atmosphere at all. So after my appt I went 8 weeks without touch up, so I call to make an appt and a man answers the phone, I ask if I can set up an appt with Ashley and he said she would call me back. So I said okay, we'll Ashley never calls me back, so I call up there again, a girl answers and says Ashley is no longer there.
