I went to this restaurant almost a month ago. Let's start with the good: it has air conditioning and the place looks clean. Now, let's move on to the mediocre-to-bad aspects; honestly, the food was pretty average, as was the service. There were only two people attending to all the tables. Regarding the food, the only highlights were the *jalea* and the small portion of ceviche served--especially considering the $29.12 price tag. The *chicha morada* came from a packet, and the *chaufa* looked like leftover rice loaded with ginger and soy sauce. I'd rate the rest of the food a 7 out of 10. Was in Paterson and my partner was dying to try a Peruvian place so we did. This place was the closest place we could find and we got lucky and found parking up front. Parking is challenging in the area-heads up! The place was OK. I wasn't blown away. We tried the jalea and lomo saltado. The service was very fast. The food came out right away which I was surprised about. The food was good. Not blown away because the jalea lacked fresh fish-don't even know if they served fish and the limo wasn't the best in my opinion. I would try it again overall. Not the best but not the worst. The chicha was OK. I've had better. By the way, the bill was odd. They apparently charge for the tip but don't really tell you nor make it clear on the bill. I feel like they shorted themselves on the tip because I normally would have paid more for tip but I paid what was requested because it was just odd. Heard a lot of nice compliments, so had to go. There were quite a few of us, which the servers did a nice job. Pretty attentive and patient. Everyone at least liked their food. I thought mine was very good. I had the Lomo saltado. The papa huancaina was good, the sauce a bit thinner than usual. Everyone's portion was big. Enough to take home. Their sangria was very good. I've been to this restaurant a few times before and always had a great experience -- amazing food and friendly service. But this time was completely different and honestly disappointing. Our waitress ignored us multiple times. I tried getting her attention several times politely, and when that didn't work, I had to literally shout "excuse me" across the restaurant just to be acknowledged. Not once did she come by to ask if we needed anything, how things were, or if we were ready for the check. It felt like she simply didn't care. I suspect it's because gratuity is automatically added to the bill, so there's no motivation to actually earn a tip. That's really unfortunate, because it takes away from what could've been another great dining experience. If it weren't for the quality of the food, I wouldn't return. So if you're okay with great food and terrible service, then sure -- give it a try. Otherwise, you might want to go somewhere that values both your time and your business. I was there for lunch after a long time, food still good as always, fresh and tasty. Not crowded maybe because it was Thursday, but I know weekends are full house. The only down side now you have ring a bell for them to let you in, do to crime and street vendors walking in and make costumers feel annoyed.If you pay by CC they charge you extra, it's better if you pay cash. Wow I'm still shocked I've gone this long without trying this Peruvian restaurant in downtown Paterson, especially because it's been around for years. I dined in on a Saturday night and the place was packed. I ordered the lomo de pollo and anticuchos. The anticuchos were pretty good but the lomo was simply amazing. Their chicha morada also tastes homemade and they have a liquor license so you can order yourself a beer or cocktail. The only thing that can be a pain is finding street parking in downtown Paterson. I'll definitely be back. I'm curious to see how good their seafood is. read more

I'm sorry to say this dining experience was a terrible experience. Went to dinner with family and this restaurant was recommended to us by a family friend. We all love Peruvian food so we were excited to try this place out. We ordered an appetizer 4 main courses a pitcher of chi ha morada and a soda. The ordering experience was not too bad--at first the waitstaff was friendly and answered a few of our questions. The delivery of food was extremely slow (which I can tolerate)our appetizer came out and one of our party's main course came with it. Ten minutes later another main course and about 15 min later the other two main courses. Once we all had our food the waitstaff never came to check on us to see if we needed anything instead we were solicited by a man that walked in and asked for spare change. Someone from our party felt bad so they gave him some change which was not appreciated by the man. 10 to 15 more minutes passed and we were all finished with our food but had some leftovers we needed to get a box for, so we waited until for service but no one came--we then flagged someone down and requested a to go box and check. Which was brought to us about 5-10 minutes later--at the same time another man came in asking for spare change to get a meal. We reviewed our check and noticed discrepancies on the bill--we were being overcharged on an item and when we mentioned it to our server she said the price advertised on the menu was incorrect and that the price was the one she wrote on the check. After a little back and forth she agreed to lower the price. We still wanted to review the rest of the check but she hovered over us as we did so which made it uncomfortable. We finally were able to calculate the right total and paid our bill. Personally I don't foresee myself returning to this restaurant it was a very bad experience all around. The only good thing was the appetizer we ordered which was papa a la Huancaina. The consistency of the huancaina sauce was thick and creamy the potatoes were served warm which complimented the flavorful sauce. The chicken fried rice was not that good the chick tasted old and dry the rice felt a bit greasy and lacked flavor. The ceviche looked good and I sampled a spoonful of the dressing from the ceviche to put on my dry rice and I could taste the lemony dressing that packed a little bit of heat. The person from my party that had fried fish (red snapper) said it was over cooked, dry and too salty. I also sampled the tallarin huancaiina with steak and also not a fan. The noodles were a bit mushy and the steak was tough and lacked flavor. If you go to this restaurant my advice is to keep a close eye on your bill and maybe order the papa a la huancaina to go. *Papa a la huancaina was not pictured because it was devoured before I had a chance to take a photo. read more

When I had to be buzzed in to the restaurant, I knew I was in for a special treat. I was promptly greeted by one of the lovely waitresses. She beckoned to me, signaling that she had a special table just for me! I know she does this for everyone, but it was a nice touch and I personalized it as my own. Once seated, I requested something with sea food and I was not disappointed! The lobster was tender and sweet. All of the other ingredients were prepared just right. The dish is a must have. Of course while I was preparing myself for the food. I had to sample the drinks. The raspberry mojito was an excellent first choice. The raspberries and the mint were fresh and delicious. So delicious that I had to follow it up with another cocktail I believe it was called (don't quote me) Costa Borgonia. It was a sweet wine dipped into a chalice full of slushie mango margarita delightfulness! However, this is just my opinion. But based upon what I was watching being served to the other customers and watching the smiles on their faces, I then knew that they have to buzz people into the restaurant because they were serving some real gems! read more

The food is pretty good, Salt is heavy handed but thats what makes it good. Portions are huge. It should be enjoyed family style. The tallarin with hauguayna sauce with thin steak on top is very rich. It's like spaghetti with Peruvian alfredo sauce. It even comes with a fried/roasted potato with the steak that goes over the noodles. I like coming here over the other peruvian places on the opposite end of Market street because there is more parking and less human traffic. I don't come here often, but when I do. They also offer classic Peruvian dishes lile the lomo saltado, cau cau, aji de gallina, chanfainita y arroz con pollo. The recipes used closely resemble the ones executed in Peru. The food is so tasty that even the employees from the Peruvian Consulate next door come in regularly for lunch. The place has plenty of space and it can definitely host large parties. Today was the first time I went. I ordered a lunch special : Chicken soup + tallarines rojos con huancaina (peruvian style spaghetti and yellow sauce) + drink. It was very tasty and a good portion. Enough for me and my son, who is 2 years old and is very picky but he enjoyed the food. Yup, I will get my fellow staff members into this place. The chaufa de carne is REALLY good, and the platanos maduros are well done (though they can be a little mroe ripe before they fry). Its a tad more expensive then I would like but they give you enough of the chaufa to split for later, thus saving "eating out" money. To explain what chaufa is, it is basically like Chinese pork fried rice but less greasy, more flavor and fresher ingredients. Horrible parking area so unless you have a tag team situation where you call ahead, have a friend drive and way in the car while you pick it up, it may not be worth it. Unless you work or live around here, it is a pain to get to. I do plan on trying other stuff here though. read more

Parking is terrible, but the food is worth the walk. Aesthetically the place isn't 5 star but once again the food makes up for its visual shortcomings. There are many Peruvian spots in town, and quite frankly they're all about the same. But if time is of the essence and your stomach can't wait, eat here.
