I love Costco. We mainly came here to get cheap gas when we were visiting Charleston. It happened to be right before the hurricane, so Costco was pretty packed. Costco is one of the best membership clubs around. The free samples along pay for the cost of membership; you can practically make a meal of the free samples if you come in during lunch on a Saturday or Sunday. Costco is great buying everything in bulk. The only downside to buying in bulk is the produce unless you have a big family or talk another couple into splitting it with you; it's hard to consume 2 lbs of asparagus in a week. But other things in bulk rock; such as 4 lbs of chicken for the price 2 lbs, rice that will last a year, and vitamins to name a few. This Costco also has a very nice wine selection; Santa Margarita for $17 a bottle when it's like $30 on sale at the grocery store. Also outside of the main store they have a tire department and a liquor store; which I have saved a lot of money in both. Big giant bottle of Grey Goose for the price of a small and tires for $400 less than other tire stores. Yes please! Overall, it's great being a member of Costco. read more

Ordered tires online go no update for days. Went into Costco a week later and they told me my tires would be in in two days. I had to work that day so I was told they were open Sunday.. Tried to drop my car off today only to be told that the tires are not in and they will call me when they get in. Will they? They haven't called or emailed so far. COVID update for Costco: -only 2 members per membership let in at a time -people over 60 can shop between 8:00-9:00am before the store opens -they let people in in waves -they sanitize all the carts They are doing very well with sanitizing all the carts and only letting a certain amount of people in the store. They even had a sign up front that listed items they were out of, so if you just needed TP, you don't have to wait in the line to find out they are out of it. Otherwise they were pretty well stocked. I have to come here a lot for work and the staff is friendly. I've found it's pretty busy no matter what time of day I go. read more

This location is super busy. I've been there Thursday's - Sunday's and it's always busy. The staff keeps it really well stocked and the food is very fresh (especially because of the fast turnover) Their always adding new products so it's fun to browse. My only issue with this Costco is the location. Currently we have only 1 Costco and it is ill located. If they would have put it in the N Charleston area it would centrally located and be so much easier to get to. West Ashley is a bad location as it can't support the traffic for a major shopping site. I do enjoy my visits to Costco as they have all the goodies I enjoy. The wine selection is pretty impressive and they have a very nice liquor selection also. The unique food items are a bonus too. The food court is very nice with great choices to eat there or take home. The BBQ beef sandwich is my favorite. The customer service is always great and the club is kept tidy all day long. It is hard to go in for just a couple of items as trolling the isles I always end up with a cart full of cool stuff! read more

I always make a list and stick to it, some. You need a list when you come here or your basically wandering aimlessly up and down the aisles throwing crap in the cart. They really do have fantastic deals and I love how they have a wide selection of health conscious foods & organic cleaning supplies. But.. you seriously could go crazy here.. Stick to your list!! This Costco is one of the better ones that I have been to. The employees are very welcoming and it made me feel very comfortable that they were all wearing masks. Even with the emergence of the second wave of COVID-19, the store was completely stocked up except for toilet paper and some sanitation products. The deals on food products are awesome and I loved the bargains on healthy snacks. Also, the restrooms are clean which is a nice bonus. The only recommendation I would have for Costco is to have more vegetarian 'meat' as it is becoming very popular among grocery stores. The only veggie meat they currently have is Beyond Meat burger patties, which are delicious and highly recommendable. Our cashiers at checkout, Sharon and Tuesday, were friendly and helped us get out of the store quickly. Overall, I had a great experience at Costco. read more

Check out the monthly circular- you don't need the coupon, but it's good to check out what's on sale. The West Ashley location is admittedly kind of random, but they do have a gas station and a gigantic parking lot. The inside is laid out like every Costco you've ever been to. This Costco has the rudest employees you will ever encounter. I have literally gone in and been told you better pick up your water because I'm not going to (which I was anyway I was still unloading). I have been yelled at for trying to pay with two separate cards (I needed to I had a gift card). I ask to talk to a manager and the lady bolts to him to tell my the "story" before I got there. I called her out and she admitted she was filling him in (why can't you just do that in front of me I was perfectly clear I wanted to tell him myself so why would I care if you told him in front of me unless you were fabricating the story). Just don't go to this Costco I literally almost cancelled my membership. They ruin your experience almost each time. read more

Probably the cheapest gas in the area if you're a member. Lots of free parking. Huge jugs of cheese balls. Rotisserie chicken that is to die for. Propane tank on the outside if you need a refill. Free samples in the aisles if you catch them at the right time. How can you go wrong with buying in bulk? Obviously, only buy it if you're going to use it and not just because it's on sale and a "good deal." You can also get your snack on at after checking out. Doesn't look like they have ice slush drinks anymore, but they've got other stuff, and slushies are bad for you anyway. Checkout is usually a chore, but if you have your bar codes facing up, it goes a lot quicker. Help them help you. read more

I need to sign my company up for some sort of local shopping group, so I explored the options. I was sent an offer from Unnamed Competitor that made their Business Membership $25 for the first year. Their Business Membership includes up to 8 cards for whoever may be handling that particular shopping trip. I took this information to the boss and he said, "Why Unnamed Competitor? Costco is better, and has better stuff." So I checked out the Costco website and it raised some questions. I read the FAQ, tried the search engine repeatedly, and finally, not finding the solid answer I needed, called the 800 line. After more than half an hour on hold, I presented my question, just wanting to verify what the website said: a Business Account must be in a specific person's name, and that person is now the Account Holder. The membership is in their name only and the card cannot be used by anyone else, even a proxy. The Account Holder gets a free Household card, which is issued only to a family member over 18 residing at the same address as the Account Holder. The Costco Business Account is $60 a year. To add an employee card is $60. Each. Again, each card cannot be used by anyone else. For business purposes, this is untenable. What employer does his own shopping? How can I know the individual chosen, should I choose to purchase the membership in a designated employee's name, will not then abuse the Household card they will receive? Or can I request they not issue that card? Or do I sign up the employee under the business address? These questions raised concerns, which my Customer Service agent understood, but was unable to assuage. What if said employee is hospitalized, gets fired, or quits? Now I have wasted $60 on a membership I can't use. My company delegates various people to shop as necessity and availability arise. Costco needs to consider their Business Account from a much more businesslike standpoint. The current model is unrealistic and to my company, useless. I guess we'll go with Unnamed Competitor. Two stars because even though she was impotent, the Customer Service agent was tolerant of my queries and sympathetic, almost apologetic in explaining the Costco policies. read more

Update: Makes sure you get your new tires from Costco!! They have an insanely amazing program that rotations and alignments and flat fixes are free for the life of the tires! Plus the initial price is a great deal, tires aren't cheap but Costco gives you the best price they can. Plus sometimes they have sales so I got the top tier tire they had for the same price as the lower grade tire. They often have promotions in conjunction with their credit card. If you're a huge Costco shopper and get a lot of gas there the credit card is worth it. If you don't utilize the gas benefit then maybe not worth it as there are other credit cards with better cash back perks. Costco is the best place on earth (for shopping), it's like the Disneyland of grocery stores. In my opinion it's more fun to walk down every aisle of Costco than go out on a Friday night. Mostly because Costco can be a HOT MESS midday on a Saturday and Friday is by far the least stressful and enjoyable time to get your bulk shopping done for those of us who work Monday to Friday da Not only does Costco literally have everything you could possibly imagine, it has everything of quality. A vast majority of their produce, dairy, meats, fish, frozen section, etc are organic choices. I get huge bags of organic frozen fruit for my morning smoothies, organic almond butter in extra large jars, organic guacamole, whatever you want they had it. They even have fresh caught (not farmed) frozen fish ranging from salmon to ahi tuna to shrimp. Plus when you add in the gas station which tends to be at least 15 cents cheaper than any other nearby station, you really can't go wrong. Definitely go to the gas station at an off hour, it also gets very busy. I also recommend paying the extra $60 a year to become an executive member. Basically as an executive you get 2% cash back on every single purchase from booking travel to buying gas through them. At the end of your yearlong membership they literally send you a check of Costco cash with the cash back you earned. If your cash back amount was less than your extra $60 executive membership, they will give you back the difference. Why wouldn't you do that?!? For this location I recommend going in and out on the gasoline side personally, the parking is less crowded. Seriously the possibilities are endless with Costco, if you want to save money on quality food and products you must be a member! read more

I like Costco overall, but I don't shop here often. Maybe once every 3-4 months, when we run out of cat food or toilet paper. I buy gas there more than anything else, and i appreciate the lower gas prices. Costco is a big warehouse store, and has a large amount of food, personsal care, appliances and seasonal items. But be careful, as you can get caught up in the buy large volume game to justify the lower cost per unit. Then you buy more things than you normally would. It also gets very busy, right at opening and throughout the day on the weekends. I like the self checkouts, and utilize them more than the regular registers. Service is ok, but I'm not expecting service here, just lower prices on the consumables I go here to purchase. Cat food time again. read more

It's Costco. You know what you are getting into when you walk in. The store is set up exactly the same as every other Costco, so if you are an out-of-town visitor, or new to the area, getting around is not a bother. They have a great return policy too. I especially like the wine selection in the Charleston Costco, and I usually grab quite a few bottles on my monthly visit. If you want spirits though be prepared to go outside of the main store, and into a small alcove dedicated to the sale of liquor. This is South Carolina where Baptists and holyrollers still rule. So the prices for liquor are a little better than you average ABC store, but are still very highly regulated by the state. They also have a great seasonal section, lots of pet items, and a wonderful produce dept. Umfortunately... the only bad thing is the checkout. On the weekends it's like WWIII. So be prepared! Made my last shopping trip to costco after learning they will not allow entry into the store unless I wear a mask. Got to the store manager to complain after talking to two other employees about the requirement. He accused me of creating a scene in front of customers. I disagree. Went to BJs instead. Got what I needed. This mask thing is going overboard. Half the people don't even know to use the mask. I guess the next step is for the Costco police force force "their" regulation. This Costco is pretty solid- one of my favorites that I've ever been to. Despite it always being busy, it's never so overwhelming that I have to hype myself up to go there. Do you want to avoid this place on Saturday afternoon? Sure. But if you have to be there then, you probably won't have a breakdown. Probably. The parking lot is huge, as expected. They have a Costco gas station and a propane filling station. If it's packed, I do not think the gas is worthwhile- it is not usually significantly cheaper than the norm, but the lines for it get loooooooong. Unless it's not busy slash you aren't in desperate need of gasoline, I would skip it. Propane is rarely busy, though located on the opposite side of the building (near the tire center). This Costco has all the stuff; photo center, pharmacy, vision center, tires, ABC store, the works! It is laid out similarly to every Costco I've ever been in, which is good when you're navigating a giant warehouse. Produce prices are pretty excellent, with decent quality! Lately we have been getting bulk greens here. No complaints so far! Kirkland brand has a lot of quality products for less than brand name. Definitely worth a shot to try them out! Love the pet products offered as well. Costco has become our go to for dog beds, cat litter, and even dog toys! Everything is significantly less than Petco or Petsmart and holds up really well. 4 stars due to inconsistent stock. Most of the time we will come here looking for specific items, but find they are out of stock at the moment. Seasonal items are usually really great value, but limited quantities. read more
