Honestly..what is better than paying for a membership then getting it basically for free since I spend so much I get money back!! I can now get discounted gas here and they have all sorts of books and movies for my daughter. You may be asking yourself why not 5 stars? Come for the samples stay for everything else. They have pretty much all that you need and my favorite is the meat counter, they have every cut pretty much, and just when you think you have seen it all, I was walking out and thinking about the new granite counter tops I need to have put in and right there was a brochure about the free in home estimate they will do on granite counter tops. Entering the other side of life (having a baby), my husband & I joined the big club based on hearsay that baby=club shopping for diapers and formula. I've never been a fan of having to pay to shop in a store but the supposed savings would be worth it and I was ready to accept my fate as club shopper for the sake of my newborn. I just got back from my first venture to the land of everything huge and I am so mad that I am stuck with my membership now & I want to let others know what they sell in terms of brands and selection before they join...Costco does not sell Pampers brand or size 1 diapers. They do not sell liquid formula, and...they do not take coupons (I must have looked ridiculous with my couponing through the unmarked aisles trying to figure out the best deal!). I also think that do not sell Glad brand garbage bags - I could only find "Kirkland" and I'm not messing with cheapie garbage bags in the diaper champ. I will say that the beer prices were good so I bought some of that and a 5-pack of lint rollers...I guess we're going to have to get our membership money's worth out of beer...and maybe a showerhead or a lifetime supply of chicken. I would also like to point out that there are no cart returns making it extremely difficult if you have kids...I'll stick to Target and Strack & VanTil even if I have pay a few more cents for my paper towels...at least they sell what I need, I don't have to add a third stop on my errand list, the sizes fit in my urban dwelling, and they take Visa! Unless I move the 'burbs or start throwing a raging party every weekend, I think that my first trip is my last trip to the Costco. read more

Like most costcos this locataion is always really busy, but that can be expected at any discount supermarket. It is definitely worth becoming a member at costco because that $40 fee is cheap! I stock up for the month (or even longer) everytime I come here on food and tolietrees. read more

Oh, CostCo, what would I do without you? I buy practically everything here, and I get great quality stuff and consistently low prices. I actually did a lengthy analysis for my accounting class on the business CostCo, and my god, they run a tight ship. Basically it is company policy to sell EVERYTHING at the same margin above their cost - I think its around 13%. This is remarkable. Their real source of profit is the memberships. They pay and treat their employees well. They don't have to overwhelm me with 25 kinds of everything. Their Kirkland stuff is fantastic. The return policy is really generous. Would give 0 stars if I could for customer service. I was excited to become a member at Costco until actually shopping there. I got my membership a week ago, but just went in today to shop for the first time. At checkout, the cashier asked if I knew I had a block on my card, to which I said no I had just gotten my membership. Went over to customer service where a guy has my card and is looking on the computer. I hear him say to another employee "this card has a block but there are no comments." After waiting a few minutes, he comes over to me and tells me my card has a block for 6 months because I shared it with someone else. Um, excuse me I literally just got my card and am using it for the first time. I explained this to him and was met with a blank stare and then the response of "your card has a block for sharing it with someone else." I asked if he could tell me when the supposedly happened to see if it was before I was even a member and was met again with another blank stare and then "you will have a block on your card for 6 months." How simple of a concept would it be to understand that I just became a member, this is my first time using my card, so maybe this is an error on your side. I also wonder how it went from him not seeing any comments as to why my card was blocked to all of a sudden the reason is sharing. Considering cancelling my membership now. read more

Not a place I will go back to. They sold me a printer that had been clearly opened and was missing several things. It was also just the point that it had been opened and they were denying it. Guy working there looked like Roseannes old husband was not worth wasting a breath over. I will go elsewhere in the future for my shopping. To bad because they use to be a good place to shop. I want to have better things to say about this place, but I don't. There are just too few in the city. There is one under construction where I live at in Pilsen. Being that there are few and they are significantly far from each other, it makes a hassle to go here at any time of the day. I'm the type that knows what I want and I like to go in and get out. Even on my best day I'm waiting in the brutal lines. The employees are wonderful and they do make the experience better, but I do opt to go to regular grocery stores just to avoid the congestion. read more

This is an update from my review from 4 years ago....We ended up keeping the membership because we would get a nice rebate check for cash or Costco credit from using their Amex card. This place is still a zoo with crummy service and the gas station lines can be long. RANT : Costco can go to hell. After over an hour & a half in a terribly overcrowded place i was ready to scream or check out. I went with a friend to pick up some booze once. This was my 1st time just going to shop. My older aunt gave me her credit card to go pick up a slew of stuff for the house. I went down every tedious aisle. I made my way to the register. Handed the guy her card & I was told loudly how i cannot use this "membership". I explained how the cat litter, toiletries, cleaning supplies, etc were not for me, but that i was doing a favor for my family. Nothing in my cart was for me! They said absolutely not; I would never be allowed to use her card unless she was with me. I was told to buy a membership & pay for it in cash instead of her visa. I'm furious. They made me feel like an idiot, like that was common knowledge. I don't know the rules. I've only been to Costco once in my life. What a waste of time. Oh, it's her birthday & now she has to go back & do it ALLLLLLLL over again. I'm sitting in my car ready to have a mental breakdown from the shopping experience by itself let alone the shit storm that followed. Staff was rude, manager was rude. read more

I am a pig therefore I LOVE this place. Go on the days when you can just graze all day from sample table to sample table. There is just something about being a mass consumer in this place. It is ENCOURAGED to buy more than what you need. I love it! Who doesn't need a bushel of fruit roll ups! My gawd. How did we live before costco came along to teach us the true meaning of consumerism! This is the mother ship. But you can get anything from phone cards to delicate pastry shells. Perfect place for a party for again, those losers who just come to eat and drink. Costco, I have a love-hate relationship with you. I love your great deals and quality products, but can you stock more employees? The other day I went to buy a fan at Costco. There was only one kind in the whole store and it was on the very top shelf and all wrapped up on a palette. I searched for a few minutes before I found an employee to help me get it down. His response was, give me a couple of minutes and walked away. I'm not sure where he went, to get a ladder maybe? I waited for 15 minutes and he never came back. When I went to find another employee, it was a barren desert this time. No one to be found except the butchers behind the meat counter and the cashiers. Their food is really fresh and good. The prescriptions are very affordable, they have pretty jewelry and great deals on soda. I am not a huge fan of club stores though, you just get such huge quantities of things that if you are a family of 2 it is not worth it. A lot of folks who live in the Lincoln Park neighborhood live in apartments and the sizes are just so huge of everything, space becomes an issue. Sometimes the checkout lines are insane, especially on Sunday afternoons. It's best to try and go on an off hour. They also don't have the best hours it seems to close early (8:30 I believe). Overall, Costco is great for families and they have really fresh food at good prices. I'm looking forward to their gas station, hopefully it's a lot cheaper. Their eatery is great, they have a huge hot dog for a buck and pizza for about 2. They have a massive family size pizza for ten dollars and it's delicious. I go to this Costco location about once every two to three weeks. I'm ok with all of my purchases (food, wine, office equipment). I would give it a higher rating, but parking is somewhat painful. I would park at the golf store and walk across the strip to get to Costco. Not a big deal except when it's 15 degrees outside. read more

This place is great if you're not shopping here on weekends. They have great products at amazing prices--even cheaper than anywhere online. The only draw backs are there is hardly anyone there to help you find something and they keep moving the frozen food items around from other freezers. If you can deal with the long lines on weekends then this is the place for you. I try to go to the one on Roosevelt more now which has shorter lines. read more

What I'm disliking is: Items just don't go up $.50 to a$1.00 per item but prices go up, $3.50 - $4.00 an item! I've noticed especially when a "New Manager" is hired... prices always go SKY HIGH. I complained at the front desk, when I noticed my normal purchases where sky high. I was told that I wasn't the only one complaining. So, more then 2 or 3 complaints, Costco takes notice and they'll do something about it. read more

DON"T ORDER ONLINE FOR DELIVERY TO YOUR HOME! I like Costco for their good deals, great produce, and value. However, the shipping company they work with (Old Dominion) will only deliver your items to the sidewalk outside your door, not indoors. I ordered 4 five foot round tables to be delivered and the driver refused to bring them inside. He left them on a pallet outside my door, even though I was standing there with keys in hand to hold the door open. I didn't expect him to bring them in all the way, but just into the entry way so they wouldn't get stolen. No such luck. I did manage to get them inside, but lesson learned- don't order from COSTCO for delivery. read more

Went to Cosco yesterday and bought few things .After waiting in line for a long time ,I realize the milk bottle was liking ...I told them to please change it for me .I was waiting ,and waiting and then I asked them what is taking so long .The register person told me that I need to go back and get it myself . I was there with my 80 years old mother .When something is wrong with the product ,and if you are waiting in line for 20 minutes wouldnt you think they will replace the milk for you? It is great for prices but the parking lot is AWFUL! I almost get into an accident at least once a month. Poorly designed. The prices are good and the store has a lot of space. I don't like some of the helpers who assist in boxing up the items as they are sometimes rude or are snobby when asking for help. Good prices but staff and parking lot need improvement. read more

Worst Costco in the country. Never enough checkout lanes open, and they have ZERO self checkout lanes when you only have a couple of items. They are always out of staple products like eggs and common produce. The froyo machine is always out and one night they stopped making pies hours before closing. The "sample vultures" are the worst I've ever seen, one guy flat out flipped his lid and proceeded to barrage the poor woman with insults after he was told it would be another 5 minutes on the breaded chicken nuggets. This probably happened because of the poor surrounding area and declining level of customers that shop here. There is plenty of parking, but usually no carts at the entrance. You have to drag one up with you after parking. If you must go here, I suggest you go on a weeknight after 7pm when it's quiet and you can get in and out in 30 min. Otherwise stay away!! read more

Costco is an amazing storage, and I don't know if I would want to live without a Costco. This place is updated daily and is an extremely clean store. Everything is really reasonable priced, and always available. The card from this store basically pays for itself! My only problem is parking however I cant knock them for being busy.
