Wow this Costco literally made my trip to Hawaii about 10 thousand times better. They have all the important stuff you could want to get at normal stateside Costco prices just about. It allowed me to save a massive amount of money. First this place is super super clean! I have never been to a Costco that is cleaner than this one. It was love at first sample and second sample and third sample and... well yeah you get that picture. PRO TIP: The food court is the cheapest lunch deal on the island, just like it is back home... and the food is just as good! Now what are some of the standard outstanding Costco deals you want in the Islands: *Hawaiian chocolate/caramel macadamia nuts at 1/4 the price of Hilo Hattie *Sunscreen 2 spray bottles and 1 tube with 1 chapstick style for $15 when a single can of spray sunscreen can run you that much alone... *steaks and chops are super cheap here compared to Big Save or another local grocery *booze is cheap here *souvenirs Pro Tip #2: The food court will take cash from you even if your not a Costco member. It may be cheaper to buy something here than to pay to bring it over to the islands and back. If you are interested in towels, swimming equip, etc... Also definitely check out the gift cards that they have for sale. It is something that I have found makes a lot of sense to buy locally when I travel. You usually save 20% and they often have the gift cards for some of the most popular joints around and sometimes they are quite swanky. A definite first stop after you have gotten to your hotel, unless its on the far side of the island. Then stop there after you land at the airport and pick up supplies for your trip! read more

We aren't kidding when we say that Costco is one of the best places to pick up supplies for your time on Kauai. If you've never been to a Costco in Hawaii, you will quickly see why they are the best Costcos in the world. We always head there right after we have a bite to eat after landing. The fish and seafood selection is incredible with a plentiful variety of seafood; ahi tuna, mahi mahi, ono, squid, wahoo, and so much more. Everything we have gotten here, including poke kits, have all been fresher than anything we've gotten at home. They've got tons of produce that comes from local Hawaii farms, as well as meats for grilling, kalua pork all made up in buckets, and packets of Hawaiian sweet rolls. The liquor section is equally impressive with a wide range of prices, quality, flavors, and local distilleries that will be a welcome stock up item for your visit. Make sure to grab a bottle of their Koloa Rum Mai Tai pre-mix for easy drinks while on Kauai. Koloa Rum is based on Kauai and manufactures the rum and mix locally. It's also a great place to stock up on all of your favorite island treats to eat while on Kauai and bring home with you for yourself and others. They have all the best Hawaiian treats from macadamia nut Kisses to Hawaiian shortbread to chocolate covered coconut candies. Even if you aren't staying at a place with a kitchen, it's still worth the stop for snacks, drinks, alcohol, and souvenir foods. On the way back to the airport, don't forget to stop here for gas to fill up your rental vehicle. read more

So i was maybe a bit too excited at the prospect of this Costco. After a lowdown of all the local products they had i knew we would hit a jackpot for our 11day trip to Kauai. Since we were staying in condos, it just made sense. We got a crap load of amazing local produce and products (5 papayas for $5!!! pineapple for 3$! Koloa Rum! Kona beer!! taro chips!! marlin Jerky!!! macadamia nuts!!! "large" free range local eggs that were totally random in size!!! kona coffee!!!! omg stop me), booze, a few magazines and books and off we were! We supplemented with a few dinners but otherwise that's 300$ for 11 days yo!! Plus i'm sure we missed tons more. But really, this place is the bomb and other Costcos could learn a few things in stocking locally. Also, lines were minimal both times (had to stock up on gifts!) You can't beat the options inside the store. I love Costco. The one thing that concerned me was the checkout process as you leave the store. I have NEVER had a Costco employee go through and count every item in my cart and then tally each item on my receipt. I went their on three different occasions and it happened each time. Seriously?!?! I read an article a while ago about the receipt checkout service and it is supposedly to make sure you got all of the discounts on featured items. I would say that is a solid NO. Wow a Costco nestled in the tropical mountains of Kauai and not crowded! Pick up all your food for your trip here. Stocked up on bottled water and drinks along with al the Hawaiian specialty items such as poke and all the varieties. Poke wasabi, poke spicy mayonnaise, Hawaiian Mac Salad.... This review is for visitors of Kauai. Since all costcos are the same. The only difference is the parking lot is filled with chickens. When I go to Kauai I go to relax and enjoy natural beauty of this island. Basically that means a beer in hand while watching the sunset on a beach. Yes the Corona commercial. Before you head to your lodging go to Costco and pick up some food and snacks. Trust me you will find out at a certain time you will be somewhere and realize no place is open. You can never have enough beer when you are sitting on a beach! Also they have the cheapest gas on the island. So before returning your rental car, come here for gas. Thank goodness for Costco. You're in Hawaii, actually you're in Kauai, and how cannot you not love the fact that you can get anything that you can get on the mainland (in bulk of course) here in paradise. This Costco branch is as large as anything you'd find in California with a couple local additions/twists such as local fish and beach towels. The supermarket scene in Kauai is sad and ridiculously expensive. The Princeville Foodland is one of the most expensive stores in the entire US and the produce is mediocre. So, if you are self-catering in Kauai, Costco is an absolute must. The produce and meat selection are unmatched. The prices are basically the same as you would pay on the mainland....which is like a 1/4 of Foodland's. It's a no-brainer, shop here. read more

It was jarring and incongruous to see a monstrosity like Costco in a garden paradise like Kauai. Once you get used to the concept, I hate to admit, it was convenient to have a place to find certain things at affordable prices. We needed another memory card for our digital camera; Grandpa had been reading stories to our son, and I shot priceless video I couldn't possibly delete. The hotel gift shop didn't carry the memory card, so we were glad to find it here (and sales tax, I heard, was only 4% - score!). I was thrilled that we were able to get in and out of Costco quickly while our son slept and my folks babysat. They also carry a variety of polarized sunglasses, leis, hula shirts, and other items. We didn't want to spend our very limited child-free hours shopping at Costco, so we scooted quickly and were impressed at how fast it was (unlike Costcos at home). I give this Costco location 5 stars for being clean, efficient, and affordable for locals and tourists alike. On the other hand, I give Costco 1 star for opening a location here and defacing a beautiful island (which, let's face it, is crawling with tourists and hotels, and has Walmart, K-Mart, - not that it makes me feel any better about it or having shopped there!). Offering all the "typical" Mac & chocolate treats, they also stock up on tons of beer, wine & tropical liquors Grabbed bags of their taro & sweet potato chips as well as cases of water & were good to go.....saving the Mac & chocolate run until Big Island to save luggage weight & melting potential Also lucked into a table offering samples of Kauai Coffee. This is a great stop for anyone who is staying on the island at either a condo or a home where you have the ability to make your own meals. As soon as we land, we grab the bags, get the car, eat at Genki, and then head to Costco get all of the food and drinks that we will be consuming in the next 1-2 weeks. For fresh fruit, avoid Costco (unless you are making something in bulk) and go to one of the Farmers' Markets during the week. It's a great place for "picked off the tree this morning" produce. At the end of your stay, Costco is also a great place to get macadamia nuts in bulk. More often than not, once I mention that I am going to Kauai, I get a dozen requests for a box of mac nuts so I hit up the Costco on my way out. If you are also not willing to fork over your hard earned dough for a Tommy Bahama shirt, this is also the place to get a cheap (and relatively mid-range quality) Hawaiian shirt for all of your relatives back home. On your way out, be sure to grab one of the berry smoothies as a nice refresher for your ride back to your condo/hotel/home and fill your tank up at the gas station as it is usually the cheapest on the island. read more

If you're thinking, "Costco? Really? I don't need 500 lbs of potatoes ...," then you haven't been to THIS Costco. This is a special Kauai Costco, where you'll find right-sized buys, beach towels, boogie boards, surf boards, premixed mai tais, Hawaiian snacks (i.e., chocolate covered macadamia nuts), and just about anything else you'll need. If you're visiting Kauai and staying in a condo, this really should be your first stop. Stock up and reap the savings for your entire visit; it may be worth picking up a membership if you don't already have one. For example, they sell a single gallon of milk for about $4.50. At the grocery store, it was $8. We routinely saw beer (e.g., Heineken, Pacifico, etc.) for upwards of $10 a six pack. Not at Costco, my boozehound friends. More beer for your dollar. And they've got a gas station, so you can gas up that convertible mustang that you just couldn't live without just before dropping it back at the car rental spot. read more

A necessary stop before we head over to Princeville. It goes like this: 1) land, 2) Costco, 3) drive to Princeville. It's a good idea to stock up on bottled waters, sodas, meat, poke (YES, and GOOD poke), lunch items, eggs, etc. Once you get to Princeville, you're stuck with Foodland (and they charge you for the convenience!). We also like to stop on the way back to the airport to pick up those last minute gifts for the fams on the way back home (bulk packs of mac nuts, chocolates, etc.). The best part - hitting up the Costco Food Court and getting a slice for cheap. It's a popular spot with the retired folks - their bus even drops them off for a group lunch! read more

One thing I like about Costco is their stock of merchandise. Wide aisles, and sampling stations. I was dehydrated, so today was my lucky day because right around the corner, hiding, was a table of chilled coconut water. I had like 4 cups, little cups, which was only half full. That brand coconut water was pretty good. Prices are reasonable, although you need to buy in bulk. Parking lot wise, wide spaces for all types of vehicles. Food court is affordable. Good selection. I love Costco! When visiting the island we stayed in a house with a full kitchen so I suggested we go here for our groceries for the trip, same great prices you'll find at Costco on the mainland. If you've got a kitchen where you're staying for sure check it out before hitting up Foodland or Safeway. Oh and the best part, you can get macadamia nuts here in many varieties for way way way less than anywhere else I saw on the island as well as other local items. We love Costco on the road.... especially in the Hawaii. We found a two bottle of Beringer wine for $7, Mai Tai cocktail for $10 and a case of Kona BC for $27.99. Great deals. A single drink at a resort cost at least $12. Gas is a great deal. If you forgot anything from the mainland, it has great products at decent prices. Enjoy your snacks and stocking up! read more

If you're visiting and you're hear more than six days Costco should be your first stop. You may be reluctant to buy in bulk when you're not staying very long but the prices are so much better than other places. My wife and I subsidized our expensive dinners by going to their food court for lunch, you can't beat $1.50 for a hot dog or polish and a drink. If you have a rental car this is the only place to fill up, it's almost a whole dollar cheaper than the other stations. read more

We just renewed our Costco membership because we ... eh, never mind. I'm not a big Costco fan, so I'd let it expire and we hadn't noticed for 10 months, so did we really need it?? Anyhoo, here we were in Kauai paradise and DH wanted to check out the Costco. It's not enough that they have Safeway and Walmart, we have to go to Costco? Whatev. So we jockeyed for parking in the gimongous parking lot and took a gimongous cart in to the gimongous store that made me feel exactly like I was in Albany or Antioch or Carlsbad. For a family of four here for a week, there's not much that you can buy at Costco that won't be total overkill. Except wine. So we bought a lot of wine. And boardshorts. But that was it. The gas is 30 cents/gallon cheaper. It might be worth the drive on the way back to the airport to fill up. Didn't see the poke. Damn. read more

"This may be the most beautiful Costco in the world," I found myself telling my wife. Sure, it's just a Costco. Chicken bake. Cheap gas. You get the idea. But under the backdrop of immense silver and blue clouds, and a range of lush mountains flexing across the horizon, you can't help but appreciate beauty. And all the other cool shit you can get here. Hawaiian rum. Reef flip flops. Family-sized bags of Mauna Loa Hershey's Kisses, and giant bags of sweet potato and taro chips. If you have a Costco card, I'd definitely recommend stopping here to get your trip's necessities, whether they're snacks, bottles of water, or snorkeling gear (who wants to put used snorkels in their mouths anyway?). We're the people that invariably see every costco and grocery store during our travels. This is like Costco: Extreme Vacation edition. Where you would normally be enticed by all kinds of useless things you don't need in a Costco, here everything is that much better! You land, stock up on sunscreen, bathing suits, macadamia nut souvenirs and as much artichoke dip as you can fit in your cute rental out front. Brilliant. We were a bit weary of the poke bar but once we waddled by after 15 other samples, we had to try. We bought a 1/4 lb each of 3 different kinds and for the rest of the trip, no other versions could hold a candle to those three. And yes, obviously, we closely compared them! Oh and did I mention their gas was FIFTY CENTS LESS PER GALLON when were in town? That's a fair number of mac nuts you can haul home with that savings. read more

I LOVE COSTCO. My hubby and I sometimes go to Costco just to take a walk... he calls them "date nights." This particular Costco is just as good as all the other Costco stores I've been to (in Southern California, at least). Clean, well-organized, friendly staff members. As always, fantastic deals, reliable quality items, and samples!! The other plus was that they have poke for sale in the back near the ready-made items like sandwiches. I like that they carry large bags of Hershey's Kisses with Macadamia Nuts (available in Hawaii only). Yum! Also got gas here before we returned our rental car. Next time I'm going to buy my snorkel gear here because I ended up paying just as much for a rental set at Snorkel Bob's! read more

Can't say much is different in Hawaii than back in California. We came here to do some long-weekend shopping. As usual, we dread the large crowds and obnoxious, inconsiderate drivers that drive through the parking lot as if it were an autocross event. This is the extreme difference that was apparent with this store. Parking lots weren't bustling with drivers or pedestrians. There was no problem navigating through. Just went straight to the parking spot and got a cart. Service and policy is pretty much the same here as it is back home. Show membership, walk through, buy your things. What differentiates the stores internally between San Francisco and Lihue is the crowd. Other customers here aren't as rude pushing you around or walking into you almost intentionally. Just a relaxing afternoon of picking up most of the groceries for the week. One other thing worth mentioning. Not only can you find local items unusual to San Francisco stores, but it is, of course, in bulk. I am still debating the purchase of teriyaki flavored Spam. read more

Gayle and I recently spent a week in Kauai at a vacation condo near Kapaa. During our stay we went to Costco twice for all sorts of supplies, including food, wine, Hawaiian shirts and flip flops. It's the best grocery deal on the the island, although a little supplemental Safeway shopping was required. Aloha from Kaua'i! Maybe my review might be a little different since it is from the perspective of a resident - but I pretty much echo what everyone else has said here. I really wasn't crazy about Costco coming here to Kaua'i - but having said that and a few years later - I think something like 90% of all the households here on Kaua'i belong to it and I end up shopping there pretty much every week. They do indeed carry local brands and have such things as fresh poke (smoked, spicy ahi poke, my favorite!), Kaua'i Coffee, and a really good selection of Hawai'i (and Kaua'i) themed books as well as some good buys on Hawaiian music CD's. You do have to be a member and there are no "guest memberships" here - but you can use the pharmacy as well as purchase liquor (I don't know why this is, but it is true) without a membership card. The food court is outside and again, don't have to be a member to enjoy some of the very best prices on island for things like frozen yogurt, and my favorite - large pizzas (large!) for $9.99. Try getting that anywhere else on island! They also have a One Hour Photo dept right inside the door and you can download and have your pictures printed in....one hour! Not having been to a Costco other than ours for a long time, I was amazed at the lines just to get into the parking lot one of the Costco's over on O'ahu - and that was just to get in the lot! Yikes! You never have a problem with parking at our Costco. The gas station is just up the street from the actual store as well. The simple fact is that most of us just can't afford NOT to shop there! And there are tons of things for visitors - most of which already have been mentioned - the mac nuts are conveniently placed close to the check out lines as well! read more

I don't shop much at CostCo back home- though I do have a membership. This CostCo is special. They have a lot of local Kauai & Hawaii products in addition to everything from China. We purchased most of our souvenirs here- they have the best price (by far) on Koloa Rum. They carry the white, gold and dark. The dark Koloa rum is only $26 per bottle here (It's $34 at the Distillery Store). They also have a fine selection of Ahi Poke, Kalua Pork, and other Island favorites. My friends and I rented a vacation house for a week in Hanalei. We came straight to this Costco when we got off the plane, and stocked up for the week- and then cooked most of our own food, and made our own cocktails at home. $500 or so for the week for 6 adults is amazingly cheap- and everything was delicious! read more

Had the worst customer service from Costco on Kauai from Grabrielle D. on January 3, 2017. A customer in front of us used one membership card for two different transaction (which is not allowed) but the customer did not tell the cashier in advance that they were paying separate. The cashier was not happy but rang the second transaction anyway. After that transaction the cashier Grabrielle D. gave us the worst customer service I have ever received from a Costco employee. Not sure because we were oriental like the customer in front of us the cashier thought we were related. Grabrielle D. looked at the back of my card to make sure it was my membership card. I watched her do several other transactions after us but did not do the same. She kept talking to the other employee and just was not pleasant at all to us. Not even a Thank You after spending over a $100.00. Just 5 days earlier I spent over $350.00 using my Executive Membership Card. Management needs to train their cashiers to give every customer the best customer service! So upset!!!!! read more

This is the best place to stock up if you're going to be in Kauai for more than a few days. We were absolutely floored at how low the prices were. We are from Spokane, WA and were really impressed to find most things about the same price. Side note: some of the produce (like spinach) was quite a bit more because it must be imported. There are great bargains on pineapple and chocolate covered macadamia nuts by the case (to bring home to friends--I swear they're not all for me!). This Costco has a gas station too. The food stand outside even had the same prices as on the mainland...and tons of people (tourists and locals alike) were partaking in those great hot dogs and frozen yogurts. Overall I was really impressed. If you're here for more than a few days, are traveling with kids, or want to eat in (our situation), this Costco is a must. read more

OMG, one of my favoritestest Costcos. Every Costco has products for the local shoppers. This one is no different. They have fresh poke! Besides that, there's tons of Asian food here: kimchee, seaweed, etc. AND they have a gas station! Perfect for my vacation car rental. They were also the first Costco that I had been to that was selling the Nintendo Wii. They might be in greater supply these days, but considering that this was just a few months of launch that's pretty cool, especially given that I hadn't seen the Wii in a California Costco until 5 months later. read more

Costco is the perfect place for lunch on the island. The best deal? Fresh sashimi (either Ahi or the Salmon/Au combo) for around $13. Comes with spicy soy sauce, lemon, and a heaping mound of shredded daikon. Fantastic! Oh, and don't forget the POG. One gallon (yes, gallon) for $3.89! If you're in a condo it's also a great place to stock up on local breads, roast chicken, salads, fresh fish for the BBQ, and other snacks. It's our first stop on the island when we land! read more

I love Costco. Being from the home of Costco (WA State) we make it a point to hunt out the local Costco when we travel just simply for the fact of the different variety of local items that are stocked. When we come to Hawaii, we get a flat of water here for like $7 and it will last us the entire trip and we keep some in the hotel fridge and some in the back of the rental car. This is also a great place to stock up on gifts and what not for your friends and family back on the mainland. We pack an extra bag just for this purpose. Also, being able to get some hard alcohol and wine to keep in the room (or bring with to the beach...) is another added bonus. read more

This Costco is very casual and generally never crowded (at least in my experience). Good selection of food and merchandise, and the food court is exactly the same as anywhere in the country. I wish they offered some more local fare along with the pizza and hot dogs. read more
