Costco is the place to go to reduce the overwhelming costs of inflation. Granted- it is still expensive and I have notice my purchased went from $250 a week to $400 plus. Still it is obviously the best place to get the most for your buck. Our location has some distinct qualities that you may want to know before you go. 1) this is a local gathering place, if your expecting a Costco-RAT-Race, like the mainland, think again. People often stop to give hugs and aloha to friends they see, staying to chat in inconvenient areas to tourist (I am totally guilty of this, and I love seeing my friends, students and their families- you just got to send them your "ALOHA") This may be annoying to some people, but it is a way of life here- so just be happy to have a little slice of aloha. 2) they don't always have stock- Tuesdays are a great day to go. Lastly, 3) checking out. If you choose to self-check out... you may be confused. As it stands now, and for a really long time, there is one line to stand in for 3 lanes of check out. Is it logical: no. Does it confuse visitors and even people like me: yes. For some reason, Costco wants all self-checkout folks to stand in one line and then go calmly and orderly to whichever of the 3 checkout lane openings is free. This really confuses visitors, and sometimes even leaves them with stink eye or scoldings from the locals. After all, those who live on Kauai have been trained to the 1 line system. About 1/2 the time, there is a staff that alerts the next person to go to the available self-check out, but where they are not there, or need to assist someone with self-checkout or review and ID for alcohol: they are not there. I am really not sure why they have kept this single line system, rather than having 3 lines, but I guess there must be some reason for this. Does anyone know? 4) Please be kind to the staff, offer some aloha to them- Q, Carry and Deb are some of my favorite folks. Costco always tolerates me coming in costume as Darth Vadar and Princess Leia. This Costco is part of the aloha experience- please treat it with love. ***** If you are an executive member- this Costco is opening earlier for you! It was our last day in Kauai, and didn't want to spend our time at the airport, waiting for our redeye flight. So decided to go to Costco to see if their optical department could tighten my Costco glasses before heading back to the mainland. The optical department closes earlier than the store itself, so we ended up wandering around. We intentionally went there on the last day after our luggage had been packed, thinking it would prevent us from buying things to bring back. But there were two things that we don't see on the mainland, that were of good price: 1.5 Coffee beans from Molokai Estate Coffee (100% from Molokai, and which my wife confirmed later was very good) and a Ube cream Liquor from the Philippines, that went great with the said coffee. Both fit in our checked bags and made it home safe. It wasn't too crowded because it was close to closing and was of large size, including self checkout lanes. I'm not really sure what's not to love about this Costco. Right after we got off the plane, we checked into our resort, and came straight here to grab a few necessities. We arrived late in the day, so we missed out on the fresh poke and other seafood goodies. At least were able to grab some bottled water, Taro Brand Salmon Lomi, and chips. Those items alone were worth grabbing, and lasted us the entire week. My admiration for this location is because it wasn't as crowded as the Honolulu locations. Or maybe we just arrived at a good time late in the day on a Monday. Here, we were able to navigate through easily and select various treats for gifting. Like Mauna Loa chocolate macadamia nuts, a variety of Hawaiian Host items, and I tripped out seeing these bell pepper crisp and a ramen crunch snacks. We bought two bags of furikake and shoyu flavored rice crackers, or arare. In the bakery, I died and really wanted to try this fresh baked Mayorca Suprema sweet roll. Check out my pic, you'll be droolin'! And you can't leave the store without buying a bag of Island Princess Macadamia Popcorn Crunch or their honey roasted macadamia nuts. We did see cheap, but made of decent quality rain jackets if you need one ($19). As well as some bargain deals on casual shoes and sandals. No problem upon check out, service was cordial. And oh yeah, their outside food court is the standard. Hot dog and a drink $1.50, chicken bake, and a slice of pizza. Sadly, nothing different. No issues finding parking either. In short, this Costco location has a wide variety of items not found on the mainland. Great gift items as well as supplies you'll need for your resort stay. I mean, you can go to the Island Market or ABC Store, but that's where it can start to get pricey. Just my thoughts and my words. To each his own! read more

Hawaii Costcos are the best! This location has everything you need for a week at the beach, from the bathing suit you forgot at home, sunscreen, boogie boards, and tasty treats and snacks for your stay, plus macadamia nuts to take home. The sushi is outstanding. The combination of salmon, ahi, and marlin is phenomenal, the fish is extremely fresh, and the rice is nicely seasoned. Skip the mayo heavy spicy tuna poke, though. Service is great, lines are efficient, prices are very reasonable. Gas is easy to get before you return your rental car. It's great all around! read more

First off, I love Costco and this one is probably one of my favorite locations. Why? Because it was not crowded at all and made my shopping experience very pleasant, unlike my local crowded Costco. It has a great variety of local snacks and tropical fruits as well as the usual staple items. I particularly like coming to Hawaii Costco's for their assortment of reef friendly sunscreens. So glad there is a Costco on this island where we stocked up on two weeks of condo living food. Lots of local specialties that I enjoyed like lau lau and saimin soup. 10/25/24 Can't really beat their prices, I've checked over & over again, even while in Kaua'i This is our regular stop to stock up on our groceries when in the area. The usual: eggs, bread, yogurt, apples, sausages, berries, Diet Coke for Hubby. They are usually all well organized & merchandise are neatly arranged for ease of customers to purchase. Staff are cordial & helpful. I am extremely pleased that this Costco is in Kaua'i-very convenient & worth the shopping trip. Too bad they no longer have a poke station. Love the samples being offered to try the products--- sometimes it makes the decision easier whether to buy a product or not (plus, great snacks!!) I like to try new things and Costco is always the best at introducing local items. Case in point is the local beers and foods that are specific to the islands. I've seen many beach and water items that are not normally sold on the mainland. Asked a few employees for help finding an item. Not friendly. I got walked by one person and then another person just shared I'm on a break. Well other than that same Costco overall. We got fruit and sashimi. Both went bad in a day. Next time just stopping for only non perishable basics. I did see a lot of folks getting beach chair and umbrella. The workers attitudes could improve greatly. I understand no one wants tourists in their town. We live by Disneyland, so I understand the sentiment but the rudeness is unacceptable. Our cashier was very short and pushy with us but so many other workers were the same with others. Before we even got to our cashier, we saw quite a few incidents. The younger guy in where the rotisserie chicken is was very pleasant and another cashier that was across from us was also very pleasant. I want to give a big thank you to Michael at the Costco Tire Center. My tire pressure light was on before the tire center even opened, and I was at the air station trying to figure things out when Michael came over and asked if I needed help. We ended up finding that my spare tire was low at 25 PSI, something I didn't even think to check. He showed me where to find the correct PSI information on my driver's side door, filled all of my tires, put on new valve caps, and even walked me through the tools in my car in case I ever get a flat. He also pointed out the tool I would need if my car ever had to be towed. Michael was friendly, patient, and really went out of his way to make sure I was safe before I left. It made a stressful situation so much easier, and I really appreciated his help. Costco is lucky to have him! read more

This is a REALLY nice Costco! It's got the cheapest gas on the island - $4.85 for regular and $5.05 for premium. The pumps are a block away from the main building, and there was no wait on 3/8/23 at 7:30PM. The greeters in the main building were friendly and efficient. After using the clean restrooms, we looked around. We were mostly interested in buying men's shirts for Husband. They had really nice polo shirts for $20 or less, and they had Hawaiian burton down shirts for $20. We bought 4 shirts and used our annual rewards to pay for most of them. Tuesday night we had hot dogs and drinks for $3.14. Tonight we had 2 slices of pepperoni pizza for $4.17. The food & drinks are outside, next to the main building, and under a covered area. Came here with the kiddos to pick up snacks and fill up at the gas station. It was super crowded, but, they had every cash register open and tried their best to get everyone going. This store is stocked with a lot of stuff that is obviously not found in the mainland so it was nice to grab stuff to bring back for others! read more

If you have a Costco membership, I highly recommend coming here at the beginning of your trip. They have the best prices on the island for groceries, alcohol, and Hawaiian snacks. However, you're still in Kauai, so it's going to cost a little more than Costcos in the other islands and, of course, the mainland. Their price for poke and sushi is a little steep, though compared to places such as Foodland, Safeway, and Times. But just like every other Costco, they have the inflation-proof $4.99 rotisserie chicken and $1.50 hot dog combo! Their Hawaiian snacks section is a little light compared to other Costcos I've been to in the islands; however, you can still find cases of Hawaiian Host macadamia chocolates no problem. I was also glad to find Koloa coffee and coconut rum here! The best prices too! Only $27.99 a bottle! read more

I've been to Costco on Oahu, Maui, Big Island and now Kaua'i (and of course the mainland.) This Costco has the same "Hawaii" section as all of the other Costcos - chocolate covered macadamia nut cases (12 boxes for $36.99), $8.99 sarongs, $19.99 Hawaiian shirts, rash guards, swimsuits, various Hawaiian alcohols, chips and treats. Costco is legitimately the cheapest on any island for these items. Costco is probably the most expensive place to purchase poke, but is fairly affordable for lomi lomi salmon. If you're a tourist, you don't need a Costco-sized poi - you're not going to finish it, so skip it. My issue with this Costco is that the groceries are SO expensive - but still more affordable than a regular grocery store on Kaua'i. $14.99 for 15 pounds of potatoes? $13.99 for 10 pounds of onions? $12.99 for 2 pounds of strawberries? Surprisingly, Kerrygold butter is the same price as it is back home on the 9th island. I noticed that unlike every Costco I've ever been to, people were leaving with very few items in their carts, including people who were clearly locals by their purchases. Went through Costco checkout on 12/21/25 @ 3:36 PM. Chose NOT TO GO THROUGH SELF CHECKOUT and went through Cashier Justin. As we were exiting, a Filipino lady named Romelde (or something like that) who spent at least five to ten minutes checking our receipt and items and made my wife go back to the cashier as she stated an item had not been "checked out". As the line behind us had grown so long Romelde tried to push the cart off on me outside which I refused to accept since she already made it appear like we had stolen something It took another 20 minutes for my wife to get through. As I was waiting for my wife, Romelde let about 15 carts go through without even looking at the 15 carts or receipts. I approached Romelde and told her I didn't mind her checking my cart but that if she checked one cart, SHE NEEDS TO CHECK ALL THE CARTS. She responded saying the carts were already checked. I told her I was standing right in front of her waiting for my wife and that she didn't check any of the carts she let through. She kept insisting the carts were already checked which is a lie. Came here after flying over to get some groceries. Lots of Hawaii-specific items (ie for the beach, snacks, poke, etc) but of course lots of the classic Costco items that can be found all over the US. Had some samples which were tasty, and then went to the food area outside for a mango smoothie. Since the mango smoothie goes into a single-use plastic cup, I asked for my smoothie to be in my reusable cup. I even verbally said I don't like using single-use plastics, and the person helping me used the usual single-use plastic cup to measure how much to give me, poured it into my cup, and then threw away the cup. Ridiculous, what is that?! Just give me the plastic cup in that case then if you're not going to reuse it (use that cup for the next person who orders a mango smoothie). Use your brain please! Or just tell me no, a bunch of the smoothie was wasted too being poured not all the way from that thrown-away cup. Sigh. read more

I wouldn't normally review a Costco but visitors to Kauai need to know about this place. Prices on Kauai, for food, have gone through the roof. I've recently seen $13/lb for butter and $10 for a dozen eggs. Contrast that with Costco in Lihue where the prices are essentially the same as the mainland (I'm from the Seattle area). This is my first stop after picking up a rental car and I highly recommend that you do the majority of your food shopping here. You will save an absolute ton of $$. People are nice and the layout is very similar to mainland stores. The ahi poke was absolutely first rate - not cheap but the best I've ever had and I consider myself an aficionado of Hawai'ian poke. Highly recommend it. You can easily pay less for poke on the island but it will almost undoubtedly be lower quality. read more

Like others have mentioned, the prices at this Costco are similar to those on the mainland. Really great to be able to snag affordable groceries and goodies here when everything can be so pricey. There's plenty of yummy treats and macadamia nut goodies to enjoy or take back home as gifts. I noticed there were a few more options here at this Kauai Costco vs the one I visited on O'ahu. For example, I found a large pack of macadamia nut shortbread cookies (not from the Honolulu Cookie Company) here for $10. They also did have the same peppermint (seasonal) and normal Mac nut shortbread cookies from the Honolulu Cookie Company too. Came here to snag some quick lunch options to bring on hikes. Not sure if it was only that day, but we couldn't find any of the larger sandwich platters that I've seen at other Costcos. We did find Asian salad rotisserie chicken wraps though, so got those instead. Looks like you may need to order ahead for other platter options if you want them - FYI. There's plenty of parking here and this Costco is conveniently located near Target and other stores. Would recommend making a stop here for groceries and snacks. read more

We did island hopping for a day and stopped by Costco in Lihue. Like all Costco, after awhile they all look the same. The only difference I took noticed was the display of fresh Kauai shrimp they had on display. Because Kauai shrimp is so bountiful in Kauai, they could see it this way. I don't see it on display in Honolulu for that matter. I would come again to Costco anytime. read more

Whenever my wife and I take a vacation to Oahu, Maui, or Kauai, our first stop after we land is Costco. Costco is our go-to source for whatever we need for the duration of our vacation. This usually consists of water, snacks, and anything that is sort of exclusive to Hawaii that we can't normally get on the mainland. We can always depend on Costco to be there. Aside from checking out things that aren't typically available to us at Costco, we always check out the food court as well. In Kauai, you'll find a mango smoothie. Of course we tried it out.
