We did island hopping for a day and stopped by Costco in Lihue. Like all Costco, after awhile they all look the same. The only difference I took noticed was the display of fresh Kauai shrimp they had on display. Because Kauai shrimp is so bountiful in Kauai, they could see it this way. I got into the Lihue, Kauai Costco 5/30/24. I had been in Maui and had called Costco Lihue to find out if they had a specific item greeting card item#1601308. They said they had plenty and even told me how many they sell per week (because I asked if they would run out before I got there the following week) and where the items were located in the store. I tried asking two Costco employees where the item was but they seemed more concerned on closing (instead of helping me find the item); I told them I would just ask them in the front to grab it for me from the back. In the front, I spoke to Desiree, a supervisor, who was beyond rude and very non customer service oriented (not sure how she can be a supervisor). She told me that Costco was "closing" and that she couldn't send anyone back there." I agitatedly retorted that she would send someone since no one could find it prior. She finally sent someone to go look in the "book section" instead of looking up in the computer where the item was while she continued to ignore me and do her own work in front of her computer (seems to be a theme at this Costco); Finally I just asked her why she didn't just look in her computer for the item and the aisle number so that everyone could just save time instead of randomly looking in "the book section"?! That's how every other Costco employee at any other Costco that I have ever gone to works! She then accused me of being rude and she had sent someone already. I told her she hadn't wanted to send someone until I demanded that she do so. She looked in her computer and then found which aisle it was and informed the person looking which aisle to locate the item. To make matters worse was when I asked to speak to the store manager, a young male, to inform him of his employee's rudeness/ poor customer service, he tried to defend her and said they can't look up items by aisle number. I informed him well, "she just did what you told me she couldn't and found the item". Overall poor customer service and incompetent people - not representative of Costco as a whole. Misadventures at Costco in Kauai. Driving a rental Kia Soul down the highway, 4 miles from the airport. Got lost last time using GPS here in 2019. Look for the Target building, and drive around it to Costco hidden from view from the highway.   Even at 4pm on a Saturday, store is not crowded during the pandemic, as few travelers from Canada or Japan visiting Hawaii. Easy to distinguish the tourists from the locals, by the tans on the feet of the locals. Food court prices for hot dogs, pizza the same as in CA. We get $2.79 bananas, $6.99 2 pounds of grape tomatoes, $4.99 48 ounce rotisserie chicken, $6.99 18 oz blueberries, $6.79 popcorn, $6.39 48 oz Fage low fat plain yogurt, and two $3.99 pineapples. Blackberries, raspberries, bell peppers, milk double to triple the cost as in CA. The Fage is $4.99 back in CA, or only 28% more expensive here. Costco gas $4.15/gal in Lihue, compared to $4.19/gal in Sunnyvale. We get lettuce, salad dressing, a quart of milk, and Captain Crunch cereal at Big Save supermarket in Koloa. No, we don't have grandkids here. The cereal is for me! We will eat a quarter of the chicken and freeze the rest, to go with our salads, as Costco only sells bread in double loaves, and bread $7 a loaf in local markets. Remind me to bring 1 pound of brown rice next time flying to Hawaii. At the self service check out I swipe my new credit card through the chip reader. Message on display comes out that the credit card has been rejected. Turns out that Costco doesn't accept Master Card. Well, I'll pay by cash. Sorry, Costco self service lines do not accept cash! Store associate comes over and says they only accept Visa. Associate holds my place in the self service line, while I go outside to the car to get my Visa card in my luggage. 10 minutes later I'm pushing my cart out the door. Only place in Hawaii that didn't accept my Hawaiian Airlines credit card! Can't find my car, and end up pushing the cart in an aisle between the cars in the parking lot. Wide parking spaces with plenty of room between cars,, until my cart bumps into the backside of a mirror of a vehicle. Whoops, sorry about that bro! read more

The one and only Costco on Kauai is located in Lihue just 3.1 miles from the Lihue Airport. No matter how big or small your family is when visiting the island, Costco is a must stop before heading to your vacation spot. You can get such great deals here on the basics you may need for your trip that even buying in bulk will help you save some dough versus shopping at the local grocers where prices are often higher due to being on island. What's great about this Costco are the things that are more than likely only sold here due to its location. If you are an avid Costco shopper like me, you will definitely notice the cool things available here that are not sold at your local Costco warehouse in your city. If anything, it's an excuse to peruse the aisles looking at all the fun stuff while doing a scavenger hunt for all the yummy samples. A plus to this location is even if you are not a Costco member, their food court is located outside, so feel free to grab a hot dog or a yummy slice of pizza and have lunch on the road. I love the wide variety of Asian products in this Costco which is not available in our local Costco. I am buying a bunch of stuff like dried anchovies, furikake and Hawaiian Sea Salt to take home with me. This Costco is really well stocked with local items (both Hawaiian in general, as well as Kauai, specifically). This was our first stop off the plane and we got way too many sweet and savory snacks for two people over three days. But hey, we were doing research on what we needed to bring home for friends and family! Some of the highlights here to bring back: - Kauai coffee, both whole bean and flavored ground. Bigger bags and cheaper than buying at Kauai coffee, ABC, or Walmart. My favorite is the coconut caramel crunch coffee and they had it here! Score! - Ono chips (must have! Terrible experience taking out from the outdoor food window. The cashier was extremely rude and made it seem like me ordering an entire pizza was a huge inconvenience for her. I've been to many Costco locations and never had this type of experience. It seems like the workers there don't seem to like tourist very much. Went into our local Costco today and had the worst possible experience with Andrew as our checker. We had to come in with our handyman due to a large purchase of flooring and other home improvement items. We were quick in line and even had a pre-count of flooring boxes to make things easy. We greeted Andrew with a smile and went out of our way to be fast and assist him. Andrew remained rude and gave us dirty looks the whole time. When my credit card didn't go through you would've thought I personally insulted him! He barked orders at me while rolling his eyes. This is a place to avoid. My wife and I (in our 70s) have been customers of Costco for 40-plus years. Never have we been treated so atrociously as we were at the Costco in Lihue. We had just arrived on the island and were buying supplies for our extended families staying in three condos at Poipu. The checker seemed to be a disgruntled employee, rushing people through the checkout lane and berating them for putting their purchases on the conveyor instead of leaving them in the cart. So, we left most of our things in the cart. After we paid, we tried to exit the building but the guy checking receipts declared that we had not paid for all of our purchases. He acted as though we were shoplifters. The disgruntled checker had not scanned all of our items from our cart. We were not allowed to leave the store and were told a manager would be summoned to make sure we paid for every item in our cart. How stupidly humiliating for honest seniors! The manager was anything but understanding. He said his checkers "rarely" made a mistake. What a joke. we will never return to Kauai. read more

Andrew at self check out today (7/29/22) has to be the least friendliest Costco employee we've meet across all Costco Warehouses we've been to in Hawaii and Continent. Maybe a since of job security taking his job for granted. Not even a simple hello or thank you. Absolutely poor customer service. What happen to the Aloha Spirit that is often bragged about. Just not at Costco or for people who you think aren't from Kauai or Hawaii. Also never seen a store run the floor cleaning machine in the middle of a busy shopping period. Customers having to avoid getting hit as the operator seemed to be set in his path unwilling to deviate. Unfortunate experience. read more

FYI, this is a tourist's perspective. Personally was very happy to have access to Costco (mostly for Costco gas because, boy are things $$ on this island). Few things to note: 1. Wow was I surprised to see that apparently in Kauai, Costco ALSO carries poke?! Delightful. Limited selection compared to local grocery stores like Ishihara Market (FYI: this grocery store offers some of the best poke on Kauai), Foodland (located in Princeville), Kilauea Market + Cafe, Big Save (Hawaiian chain), even Safeway. Poke includes garlic shrimp, cilantro lime shrimp, spicy ahi, shoyu ahi, wasabi ahi. Sushi (via SNOWFOX: https://jfefood.com/about-snowfox/) includes maki rolls with tuna and salmon, non-raw fish options (tempura shrimp rolls, California rolls), salmon and tuna nigiri. 2. Selection of Hawaiian snacks including my personal favorites: Hawaiian Chip Company taro chips & Hawaiian Ahi Sakura Boshi Teriyaki flavored jerky (not fishy, dry, or tough. Surprisingly and gratifyingly tender!). See photos for other options if interested. 3. Gas prices are the best on the entire island (was seeing at least $0.40 cheaper comparatively). Conveniently located in the same shopping complex as Target and Ross for all of your shopping needs, and 3mi from the Lihue airport. Fill up before you drop off your rental car! On that note - this is the only Kauai Costco currently, so if you have time/a need to buy bulk/Costco specific items, remember to drop by after your flight. 4. Food court options not any different from options on the mainland. Located right outside of the warehouse. 5. For non-members only: Interestingly, you can get around the need for a Costco membership with a Costco gift card (aka a "Costco shop card"). Have a Costco member buy the Costco shop card for you, and you will have access (equivalent to having an actual Costco membership) to the gas pump and food court. Not true for shopping in the warehouse itself. Despite what it currently (as of 2/2022) states on the Costco website: "Nonmembers, as well as members, may use Costco Shop Cards to shop at any Costco location in the U.S., Canada, or Puerto Rico, as well as online at Costco.com and Costco.ca." (cite: https://customerservice.costco.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9232/~/shop-card-faqs#1), you CANNOT use this gift card to enter the Costco warehouse or to check out (either with self-checkout or with employee). You WILL be required to stop by the Costco customer service to get a day pass, or a manager will be required to sign off on your purchase. Was told that obtaining a day pass is a one time option and the next time I shopped at Costco with the shop card, I would be required to purchase a membership. Not sure how diligently this is tracked. Still, bit of a hassle and awkward, given the conflicting information on the website. Tl;dr: for sure would come back for gas & (supposedly) family-sized snacks. Possibly also for family-sized poke/sushi (because apparently I can single-handedly down family-sized portions). Consider getting a membership if you want to shop inside the warehouse, otherwise a Costco shop card is sufficient for access to Costco gas and the food court. read more

We found this Costco just as awesome as every other one we've been too. We loved the "local" options like guava cake, and in case we didn't get enough lau lau yet (which we didn't), we picked up some of that too. Sunglass options were pretty decent so we grabbed a Ray Bans Wayfarer for a pretty decent price. Also, as expected, the gas price was pretty good too! It really is a nice treat to have a Costco here on Kauai. We went close to closing time on a Saturday afternoon and there was plenty of parking. They have many of the usual stuff in Costcos such as giant TVs, however, we came here for the poke. Perhaps it was the end of the day, but they only had two varieties of Poke. We picked up some standard shoyu Ahi poke, which was a pretty good deal at $16.99/lb. The package we picked up was just under 1 pound. The fish was cut into nice large chunks and the sauce was actually in a separate container. It's nice to adjust the level of seasonings/saltiness yourself. The sauce had good depth of flavor and lots of sesame oil. It was incredibly fresh with no fishy odor at all, texture was very good, and it had very little gristle. The other Poke we tried was Kajiki, which is blue marlin, and sea asparagus. This one had all the seasonings blended in already. It was very slightly spicy with chili pepper flakes. I felt this was slightly on the salty side. We spicy wimps could eat it mixed with rice and salad. It's even better with macaroni salad. It had red tobiko mixed in. This fish was stringier than the tuna, however, perhaps it is a feature of blue Marlin. This fish was very fresh, texture was nice, and it had a mild flavor. I think this would appeal to most people, so don't be afraid to give it a try. The sea asparagus had a texture that was similar to regular asparagus. However it does not taste like regular asparagus and it was not fishy tasting either. Really adds a nice contrast of texture to the fish. We looked through some of their other items. They have a wide variety of Hawaiian specific items, such as macadamia nuts and Hawaiian shirts. They also have Kona and Kauai coffee, pineapple cake. The food court has the same items as the mainland Costcos. Prices look to be the same. Nothing special here. There were very long lines at check out, but that could be because it was the end of the day. Also there were no samples. Overall a good stop to check out when you are on the island. read more

We went to the Costco on Maui right before our flight and went to the one in Kauai right after we landed. Love that Costco has strategically placed both locations near the airport. So good for picking up snacks on the way in and getting gas for the rental car on the way out. This Costco is less crammed and seems more organized than the other Costco. What did it for me is that they aren't cheaping out on the samples. Just like the other Costco, tons of souvenir options. My favorite is the diamond bakery shortbread cookies. read more
