I'm not sure what is wrong with the staff/management at this location, but they don't exemplify the friendly customer service that Costco has come to represent. Two new examples of the horrendous customer service... 1. The ground outside the front door, under their awning was wet and I slipped and fell. The guy checking membership at the door just watched as I picked myself up and limped to my car. 2. While walking out, the people checking your receipt will often indulge the children and put a happy face on the back of the receipt. A cute gesture. The kids come to expect it though. Today, my 3 yo asked for a happy face and the guy says "we're too busy"....Fine, I get it. But there want even anyone behind us. That's just a shitty attitude. I love this store , however I noticed the greeting staff who checks if you have a membership are very rude. I went the other day to buy a membership but i wanted to browse around first just to make sure thats what I wanted. This lady kept stepping in front of me saying I needed a membership card and I kept telling her I was on my way to buy one. In contrast to her behavior, the guy at the service desk was amazing and even told me a few tips and tricks about navigating the store. Again this star is for the greeting staff. I love Costco. I can walk the isles and just daydream while munching on free samples and pondering if I need 2 gallons of ranch dressing (the answer being yes of course). This location has a little bit of a different set up then the ones I'm used to but still has the same prices and products. This one has a huge parking lot but people are darting in and out all over so pay attention. Our customer service has been fine on each of our visits. Bring your own bags. read more

The grumpy, snobby, disgruntled crew working this location give Costco a bad name! I've been a fan of Costco since the good old days when it was Price Club (going way back!) there are a few shining stars who redeem the otherwise toxic, gloomy crew. We've got 4 kids, so as you can imagine we annihilate some bulk groceries. We visit once a week most weeks, and have been since they opened. Jay, who used to be on the food court and moved to the back of the house, is service focused and always cheerful. Stacey, the spunky checker, knows us and asks how the kids are doing. She's efficient, friendly, and doesn't frazzle even when the lines are at their peak. I been an online member since September this year today around 11:30 stopped in to get my card and check out the store. After waiting in line for almost 30 minutes I was treated so rudely at the counter she told me I had to step aside fill in the information on my phone and get back at the end of the line. The Ann Arbor Costco is my happy place. Not only is it one of the cleanest and newest Costco's in the area but, it also always has both of my favorite things which are - USDA Prime Beef Brisket packers for $2.99 a pound and Ahi Poke which I would literally punch an old lady in the face for if there was only one left. In case you aren't aware, $2.99 a pound for Prime brisket is almost like a gift from Jesus himself. The cheapest I have ever been able to get a whole packer brisket anywhere else was $4.99 a pound and that was for Select. If you fancy yourself an amateur pit master like I do, this really is an incredible piece of meat for an obscene price. Also, if you've never considered eating raw fish from a warehouse club - let me tell you, this Poke is outstandingly delicious. It's only available on weekends but let me tell you, it's worth fighting the crowds to get some of this stuff. So fresh, so flavorful and loaded with protein. I'm pretty sure I have mercury poisoning at the moment but I just can't stop eating this stuff. Try it, trust me. Anyone who has shopped at Costco knows their selection in all departments and the quality of items they sell is second to none. Throw in excellent customer service on anything you buy after the sale and there is really no reason to go to Sams Club unless there isn't one by you. If I had to knock them for anything they really need to open some more checkouts or put in some do it yourself lanes. Other then that, this place is the bee's knee's, yo! read more

Costco is a great addition to the area. It provides a great resource for consumers, and small businesses owners. My family frequently uses Costco for needs, and have been loyal customers ever since they moved to the area. Unfortunately, when we called to inquire about membership policy we received a very nasty response from the customer service representative who handled our call. We inquired about adding an additional person to the membership, and when asking clarifying questions, the representative abruptly turned rude and spoke with a confrontational manner. She started repeating the policy slowly, pausing between each word. She did this without answering clarifying questions. I'm absolutely baffled that a customer service representative would get so rude over the phone, to the point of openly mocking someone. We've never experienced that before. We'll be canceling our membership and moving business to a competitor. read more

I joined Costco today after hearing great things about it from coworkers, and I'm so glad I ventured in. So, $55 membership, right? I bought a living social deal for $49 instead, and that got me the Gold Star membership, a $20 gift card and $29 worth of coupons (free rotisserie chicken, 36 pack of water, free batteries, etc...). When I went to redeem my voucher, they gave me the hard sell for the $110 membership and their American Express card, but I held my ground. I could NOT believe the quality and the value of the food here! I don't buy much, well, packaged/process food, so I only bought produce, meat, cheese, eggs and cleaning products. A bag of 6 avocados for $5? Yes, please. Two whole roasting chickens for $10? Must have. 90 eggs (that's 7.5 dozen) for $9? Yup. I have three boys/men in my house, so we go through food at a rate faster than I'd care for. Paying Costco prices makes me not see dollar signs when I give them a second (or third or fourth) helping. Most of the people working were nice as heck. Really engaging. Cons? As a first-timer, I found the entire store overwhelming. I couldn't find basics like ground beef or heavy whipping cream--but when I mentioned it, the nicest young man got them and brought them to me. I found the checkout line confusing (you stand on one side of the belt; your cart goes on the other). Also, they only take AmEx, so be ready to pay cash or write a check. No complaints at all about this Costco. Everyone is nice, they have a great selection of food. But do I need 40 AA batteries? why not!? The prices are very good on most things but as with all warehouse stores, you can sometimes do better at your grocery store, especially with sales. It's great that they have a gas station, tire shop, lots of samples (especially on the weekends!), and a liquor section (not that I'd be interested...haha). I'm very mixed in my feelings towards Costco. I come from a large family, so I can definitely see the advantages of a warehouse store like this. Now it doesn't make much sense for me to shop here because I'm only shopping for two. That said, sometimes Costco can still be worth it. For example, I grabbed a twin pack of peanut butter here that was almost as cheap as buying a single jar elsewhere. However, a lot of the other prices aren't much better than you'll find at a Meijer or something equivalent. I also really like the fact that they sell prime steaks here. I've came in a few times just to pick up nice steaks for a fancy dinner. Lately, however, I've had pretty mixed results where one steak in a pack of four will be amazing, but the other three aren't good at all. The Jackson st Meijer also has prime steak if I'm looking for that, and Sparrow has been pretty good as well. So in the end, I decided against a membership because A. you can still buy the food court pizza without a membership (I love the frozen yogurt too!) B. you can still buy alcohol without a membership and C. if I really, really need something there, I can just go with a friend, but I don't see that happening often. Now, if you're in a situation where it actually makes sense to buy food in bulk, etc, then Costco is a great choice so don't let my review discourage you. Costco can be a great way to save money if you shop wisely. If you're a single college student or even a couple with no kids, however, I don't really see the point. Oh, and it is kind of annoying that a lot of their clothing runs large so I can't even fit in their smallest sizes... read more

Think twice before using the COSTCO Tire service for a leaky tire. First in line ( waited 45 minutes out in cold, but good thing because line quickly formed behind me) with two appointments ahead of me, they have 4 stalls and you'd guess four technicians. Yes, I'm a member but tire is original. Told it would be a one and a half hour wait. Well, that time is past and I'm still sitting here waiting for a technician to speak with me. Now I'm wondering if I really want to buy the replacement tire here, if needed. read more

I have been buying glasses and contacts from Costco for a year or two. Always uneventful and average experience. Today, however, I went in with the intention of getting a full Costco membership, buying a years worth of contacts and a new set of glasses, and going on a bit of a shopping spree. Walked out with nothing. Eye center staff is so rude. They all look extremely bored and sad. There were about 15 people waiting with me and whenever someone asked if there was a line, a staff member replied "I don't know." So we are all just huddled around this circle desk waiting and wondering. Took forever just for them to tell me no. Will not be returning. I'll stick with target. read more

Great store! The prices are reasonable and grocery quality is top notch --you get a lot of bang for your buck. And the return policy is very generous. Please do not abuse their return policy though : ) I want to mention their auto department. They are always so courteous and helpful. The front left tire of my car had some air issue. They suggested it might just need a simple air refill instead of replace the tire. They refilled the tire for me and it works so far so good! read more

This is a pretty good costco location. It has never been super insane costco busy when I was there- parking is easy to find close to the store, the checkout lines never take 5 hours to get through, there are no fisticuffs being exchanged at the corn dog sample line- all in all a winning move. I will say this store seems to be about 70% the size of the usual costcos I have been to so there selection is somewhat limited ( they don't appear to have sweet potatoes or the 5lb bag of peeled garlic for instance- and since those 2 make up a huge portion of my diet that is a bit of a problem). However the ability to get in, park, shop, get a hot dog, and get out without catchign a murder charge over cart rage probably outweighs that. read more

I love most things about Costco, and shop here often. But, there are some things that have been customer unfriendly for so long I think it's time to say something: 1. The security check at the exit. Give me a break. This is the most ridiculous practice - borrowed from Sam's Club no less. I dread this idiotic ritual. My cart is an impenetrable mass of $400 worth of stuff, but the exit person still has to eye it up and down, pretend to do something useful, then check off the receipt as though I've just been let onto a plane. Get rid of this useless charade! 2. Checkout is always too long. That's because let's face it, they usually don't have all the lanes open. Why not? There is always a line at every register, always. Open up some more lanes! The only thing more frustrating than waiting 15 minutes at checkout is waiting another 5 to get past "security" and out of the store. 3. Bottle return. Costco doesn't want you to bring your bottles and cans back. Even though they sell 1,800 cases of soda a week, they still only have one machine for cans. Walmart has 6. Why is this? Because, Costco doesn't want to be bothered. 4. Costco Gas. Dreadful. Who in their right mind waits 15 to 20 minutes just for their turn at saving $0.03 a gallon? What is your time worth, people! If you wait 15 minutes to save $1.00 you've just valued yourself at $4.00/hour. I think you're worth more than that. BTW, the Valero on Michigan Ave. near US-23 is nearly always cheaper than Costco. 5. Costco Automotive. Don't get me started. If you happen to walk in, they happen to have your tires, and they happen to have an opening, you're all set. Otherwise? Have someone pick you up and bring you back at the end of the day. Why not accept appointments? 6. Samples Tables. OMG! You would think that half of all Costco shoppers have never received anything free in their life, or were starving to death. They literally wait 10 minutes for the little toaster oven to finish heating up the little bits of food so they can snag their free sample. People will line up for this, they will push you for this, they will take three or four samples and then ask for something to drink. But, for the most part they don't buy the product. Stop the samples madness! 7. Soda (Pop). Hey, it's not that good for you, I get that. But, why only 6 flavors? You have more varieties of crackers. We always have to make a separate trip because you don't carry many flavors and of course you definitely don't want us to bring back the bottles and cans. Come to think of it, I think we probably shop other places some of the time for this very reason. 8. Parking lot entrance. You know that little tiny entrance that everyone has to funnel through to get nearer the front of the store? Yes, that one. You know how frustrating it is that this could have easily been engineered so that it wasn't so darned inconvenient? Have you ever parked along that little road? It's near impossible to back out of your spot. C'mon Costco, get some proper engineering done on that and fix the obvious problem. 9. Bakery. Hey Costco, here's an idea, make some normal bread in the bakery. You know, the kind all other bakeries on the planet make. There is this new invention called a "loaf." I know, that's a tough one. Your bakers are directed to make odd shaped rolls, off-size baguettes, softball sized danishes, etc. But, some of us just want a loaf of bread that we could, you know, make a sandwich with. Sure, we could go to the "bread" aisle and buy some chemical induced concoction - but you have the bakery right there, and people who know how to bake. I just think they need to have the freedom to bake the kind of bread everyone wants. 10. Hours of Operation. 10:00 to 8:30, just like every other - wait a minute - that's not like *any* other store. Maybe some of the other issues would go away if you'd open your doors earlier. How about 8:00 a.m.? And, closing at 10:00 would be far more normal. I can't tell you how many times I've gone elsewhere because I needed to shop at normal times and Costco wasn't open. We switched from Sam's Club to Costco - and we're never going back. But, we would like it so much more if some or all of these other things were addressed. read more

This is a review of the Ann Arbor Tire Center. The battery I needed was not available in the store. I was told that they can order it for me but I needed to come in for that to happen. When I got to the store the tech informed me that he could not order it because only the manager can, so he got my information( Member number, etc). The next day I called and spoke with the tire manager who said that he could not order it unless I came in again and prepay for it. He added the if I did not prepay they will sell it to someone else when the battery comes! I called the Livonia Costco and I didn't need to go to the store to have it ordered or to prepay for the item. I was informed that when the battery came they would give me a call to pick it up and pay for it-simple, no hassle process! read more

My first time here and we popped in to buy a computer. Despite university classes starting and public schools being online they still had a decent selection including my bargain pick st $449. I took a photo of the one I wanted and jumped into a line. Every line had three parties at least but moved quickly. I made a clumsy explanation of what I needed, waving my phone photo at them, and they jumped into action. Checked out in under 60 seconds including inputting the item number. Paul had my computer waiting for me before I even left the line. Now that's efficient! read more

Today I'm encounter the worst customer service in Cosco I ever seen ! Pass by the chicken bake give out sample, I stop to try out the sample, I'm curious about the huge pie,tip toes to see what in it, I touched the tray, and that right there the lady who give out sample slash out on me."don't move the tray" I was shocked, that going on, this is the first time I seen her, she acting I'm her enemy for whatever reason, I said I'm sorry, I didn't mean to move her tray, I'm stay there to see what her next reaction, yet, and she still going in with" don't move my tray ,it will collapse the card board..." I never feel so insult , I'm feel like I'm stay there begging her for food, what the !!! I went to the manager and tell him about her attitude, he said maybe she work for another company but he will talk to her. To my thinking, if you work with Cosco, work for Cosco or affiliate with Cosco, you represent for Cosco, sell your products,if this is how customers service works, you won't go far!!! I'm been member with Cosco for a long time, but if every time I go to Cosco and get this customer service, I will rethink about renew my membership next year! read more

This is a pretty good Costco. I needed a passport photo - when I went up to the counter she apologized that it might take her about 30-40 minutes. Okay, deal. So, we walked around and of course ended up spending WAY more than the $5.29 it cost for me to get my passport photo. The layout of the store is solid (except I hate that they don't have the electric toothbrushes over with the other bathroom stuff - lame), and the place wasn't TOO packed at 10:15am. This is my home costco as this is where I signed up and it's literally five minutes from my office, so I come in here often on my way home. Store-wise, this Costco is brand-new and it shows in the clean aisles, great staff, great product choices and awesome quantities of everything. Also, it doesn't seem to be a packed to the gills as the Livonia and Madison Heights locations that i've also visited in my years of adulthood. Even a Saturday in the Ann Arbor Costco isn't as jammed as a weekday in Livonia. Food court wise, (as many of my reviews are food based), they have great basics- the polish sausage and pop for a steal of less than $2, the huge slice of pizza of $2.00 (especially the supreme) is tasty hot and delicious all the time, and I absolutely can eat a whole Cheesy Chicken Bake myself for lunch and be satisfied. It's a combo of cheese, bacon bits and white meat chicken and it would beat a lot of hot sandwich items around here. I have not yet tried their new BBQ pork sandwich but I may just do that today even.... Another short review of the tire department in this location- the guys know their stuff and their prices are definitely on par with Belle Tire in terms of similar discounts and sheer availability- i literally got 4 new tires bought, installed and paid for in an hour. And free complimentary top offs of air is very convenient (especially when my low pressure light came on last week). Their selection is less extensive than BT, but there's definitely less selling pressure as well... these guys are cool. I think the only minus one star is that it's like $55 a year to be a member... but i guess that is a small price to pay for a year's worth of great quality food, free samples every day, and a great service experience. Once we have our kids next year, i'm sure we will be here at least once a week to stock up on everything. Kudos to Costco. read more

UPDATE Found out from the Costco employees that a fight broke out this morning since everyone was fighting for tire center services. I guess there is a serious line early in the morning at Costco for tires. No thank you. Firestone will gladly match Costco tire prices. They also have the same rebate deals. They will also gladly match Costco's labor fees. What's even better? They will install your tires on the day of or the next day depending on if they have the tires on the spot or not. I ended up showing Firestone my Costco receipt. Then returned my tires at Costco. Also found out that Costco does not make plans to expand their tire center - it is clear that they have a lot more customers than they can serve. Services are backed up by 3 weeks. Workers are not efficient. I just don't know how you can keep up with the demand. Never ever buying tires from Costco again. _________________________________________________________ I purchased snow tires here on Saturday, 12/9/2017 because they have the Bridgestone Blizzak WS80 on sale. There was a line already at the tire center when attempting to purchase tires. There were 3 people ahead of me. The sales guys Jordan was taking care of all the customers. The customers were slow at making their decisions due to their lack of research and knowledge on tires. Jordon did not help the cause at all. There was a line of people trying to get service. Maybe he could have called another sales person to help customers. When it was my turn, I pulled up the screenshot of the specific tires that I want. I was trying to speed things up since I want to get my snow tires on as soon as possible. Also, there were 8 other customers behind me. Jordon tried to make conversation unrelated to my product. Dude, there's a line of customers that you need to be taken care of behind me. Clearly you don't care... After purchasing my tires, he tells me that I can't install my tires today because the entire day is booked for the tire center. Fine. He told me to come back the next day. I come back the next day at noon. It should be early enough to get my car in. Nope. The sales guy said that they were booked the entire day and I should come back another day when Costco opens at 10:00AM. Today is Monday, 12/11/2017. I called at 10:00AM (when the store opens) to see when I can bring my car in to get the snow tires installed. The sales guys said he definitely won't be able to fit me in. How are you not able to fit me in when the store JUST opened? He then proceeds to tell me that I should drop my car off at Costco 1 hour before they open. As soon as they open, I should go in and TRY to get snow tires installed at the tire center. It's not guaranteed that I will have them installed in an hour or so. I have work and school. I don't have all the time in the world to spend at the tire center. So I guess I won't be able to get my tires installed until next year. This is by far the worst customer service experience that I've ever had. How is it that I can't get my product installed when I have already purchased it? They should warn customers about the installation waiting period if they know that it's a problem. The sales people at the tire center are very incompetent. First of all, you have a lot of customers. Please work efficiently so that customers do not have to wait in line in aggravation (if that wasn't obvious enough). Second, you don't even pretend to work hard on the job. Nobody has time to have a side conversation with you. Please do your job. Third, they literally show ZERO effort in wanting to help you meet your needs. They simply don't care. Fourth, quit trying to call the tire center starting at noon. I see the phone ringing but the sales guy just ignores the phone. The phone rings nonstop and he ignores the phone like its nonexistent. So incompetent. One big lesson that I have learned from the Costco tire center: never buy tires at the tire center. I rather pay more at another store. I will even tip the technician more at another store. I will not come back to purchase tires ever again. read more

Today I shopped at the Ann Arbor Costco for the 1st time and had a good experience from parking to leaving. Granted, it was a slow time and I wasn't dealing with the Auto Dept, but customer service was pleasant, helpful and friendly. I've been there at super busy times too, and the crowds were so intense it made me bonkers, so I avoid it at peak times. It would help if they offered some smaller carts and stayed open later. My favorite thing about Costco is that they stock a huge variety of ORGANIC foods at great prices. That, and the world's best TP! I LOVE going to Costco. I actually get excited about going and I hate shopping. The weekends can be rather packed but its worth is for all the free samples. They generally have so many things to try out that it can get rather crazy with people trying to get to them all. If you need it, chances are Costco has it, just only in the jumbo size. Do you need eggs? They have 48 waiting for you. Pens? A pack of 100. You'll spend more than you plan, you're warned. The food court is a true gem. Everything I've had there is great, however, I must note the berry smoothie. I've tried and tried to copy it, I don't know what they've placed it in that makes me addicted to it but I NEED to know. This review is for the tire shop. I write this hoping I can save at least one person from making the mistake of trying to buy tires there. I generally love shopping at Costco but their tire shop is horrendous. I bought tires last year and made the mistake of doing it again this year. Both experiences were abysmal. Unless it is worth several visits, many hours of your time, and extreme frustration just for one tire, absolutely do not buy tires at Costco. For any interaction you will have to wait in line for at least 30 minutes surrounded by other irate customers. If you try to call, they will either not answer at all for days, or put you on hold if they do answer and never come back. They will tell you that they will call about something and never do. This time I ended up giving up and getting a refund. Even that took almost an hour of my time to do and the tire shop told me I would have to drive there and wait in line again to get it. Neither of the general managers (Stuart and Joey) I then spoke to offered to try to make it right for me or indicated this is not what they expect their customers to go through, so they clearly do not pride themselves on any customer service. This is fine if you want to go to buy some quality groceries, but I recommend avoiding any department where you would actually need service, such as tires, travel, etc. read more

I'm so happy Costco came to Ann Arbor. This is a great location, clean space and incredibly helpful customer service. They have a great selection of foods, electronics and apparel. Awesome deals. It can get quite busy and a bit overwhelming during peak hours so plan accordingly. Usually between 2-4 pm are the quietest. An amazing selection. Many items are much cheaper here like cauliflower, organic berries, coconut oil, flax, quinoa, etc. Some are more for the convenience of quantity like cereal. My biggest complaint is the Trout is farm raised and fed color through their feed which is gross and unhealthy. I love the taste but that takes the quality way down. One tip I'd give is to get seasonal items right when you see them like gloves, rain boots (Hello Kitty and Batman scored for my littles at around 10-15 dollars). I have gone home to ponder certain purchases only to find them sold out when I went back a week later. For food items you can request they bring items back if they stop carrying it but I'm not sure that applies to other things. Overall love Costco! read more

Pretty good selection and good quality even though items are in bulk. Love the rotating specialty foods and the selection of wines and cheeses in really exceptional for a place this size. Trouble coming in for just a few items though as there are no express lanes. read more

If their was a thumbs up I would give this place a thumbs up as well. I've never had such good customer service. They have always taken such good care of me. I sometimes wish they would adopt me if it was possible. I would definitely change my last name to Kirkland. They provide tons of organic food, and food choices for anyone. They always have stuff seasonally that is needed, clothes, food, decorations, you name it, they got it. I love Costco. I pretty much advertise for them. I know most monthly deals and make sure to let everyone know about it. Thanks Costco for showing what a true American company should be like. read more

Great products and great prices AS LONG AS you know where to find them in the cavernous expanse called Costco. The aisles seem numbered, yet nowhere can one find a handout map of what's where! Why not? When I asked an employee about this, he said that part of the Costco experience is "the hunt." When I countered with "what about folk with limited distance" he retorted with "that's why we're here to ask!" to which I quipped, "sounds good, but it took me a quarter of an hour just to find you." So, if you're just browsing, and don't know where your goods are, keep hunting! read more
