I had in incredible experience at this Sam's Club Optical Department. It began from the time I called-to my appointment as my prescription was out of date- thru picking up my glasses. Let me explain. A very nice person by the name of Tonya found an available appointment as soon as she could fit me in,which was extremely appreciated as I had broken my glasses. I had called multiple places only to be told that their first appointment was mid September because of the back to school rush. She was very courteous, and very helpful! I wasn't necessarily expecting that my entire experience with them would go like that but indeed it did. The optical assistant Alicia did some of the pre-testing. She was very professional and we were done in a hot minute. More on Alicia coming up because she went above and beyond. Dr. Edward Nelson came out to fetch me and took me into the office. I noticed that he had a lot of medals in a frame on the wall so I asked him what they were related to and he explained that he has been an optometrist in the Air Force during the Vietnam war and then continued to assist different bases to provide Examinations and care for the enlisted in the Air Force. He was very nice, very easy to talk to and I was so impressed that during his career he flew an F-14 (I think he said)/but don't quote me as I always get my jets mixed up! Anyway that put me at ease and for some reason the way he asked the questions when you have to say what's better and what's best which I always have difficulty with I was able to answer quite quickly. I know he just use different verbiage but it made a big difference for me. I can't recommend him enough, He told me during Vietnam he was not sent into battle, but in some of his other experiences between then and now he did have to go into the battlefield to see and treat patients. I thanked him for his service to our country. I actually found one frame that met all my specifications and that I liked out of all of them. Pretty amazing I'd say. I gave the frame to Alicia and she sent me off for a few minutes as they were busy with other customers and told me to shop or whatever I chose to do for 15 to 20 minutes -and return and they would be able to sit down with me and get the measurements for my new specs. I never have trouble shopping so I did just that and picked up a couple things which I brought with me up to the optical department. During that time I realized I did not have my Sam's Club card and I was panic stricken. I had been spending days and nights with my brother at the hospital and he had died the morning of my appointment at 11:05 AM. I think I would've had a better ability to cope had I not been sleep deprived and very sad. However I did go into my Sam's shopping app and under my account information was the code that they scan when you check out so I told Alicia that I was extremely upset and didn't know up from down right then and she just calmly told me to have a seat and tell her what the problem was. She assured me that I would be able to get my glasses and anything else I needed. She said the only thing affected- I didn't have my card I couldn't charge it to my Sam's account. I had other means to pay so that was no problem. She then did exactly what she said she would. She was so sweet talking in a very calm manner and being very empathetic to my situation. She then scanned my cards and I got everything from The optical department that I needed including the fact that I would be able to return in 10 to 14 days to pick up my glasses. She also took the time to go to a different register and scan the barcode in again. I would not have to do anything but leave the store when we were done. I honestly will never forget this it was such an act of kindness and I could tell it was genuine so I really want to express my thanks to her and I hope that Sam's Club sees this review and gives her some kind of reward for being such an outstanding associate! I was actually able to pick them up on Labor Day- Tonya looked like she was working by herself since it was a holiday. She was very helpful and found my glasses then discovered that the lenses had not been put in them, so expressed surprise that I was contacted and immediately offered to go put them in the frames and get right back out to me to try them on which she did. The glasses fit perfectly I can see very well with them and that's why I had to write this up- I had a 5 star experience! This Sam's optical department is incredible so I highly recommend them and would not hesitate to return, in fact I might even return on a visit to family since it's in Ypsilanti and I live in Texas. Bought gas at carpenter Sams today and was charged for premium gas even though I had push the 87 button. When discussed it with the gas station attendant she said it happens all the time the pump does it on its own. It cost me $12 more than I should have paid. Anyone buying gas there better check the pump is charging you right. read more

The gas station has a pump problem today. Gas is taking 3 to 4 minutes per gallon to pump. I hear this is a problem some mornings. another person told me they had to shut down all the pumps last week to try to reboot it. Don't know what the problem is but it's only worth getting gas if you have plenty of time. read more

I has come to Sam's to purchase a cookie cake for my son's bday tomorrow. I decided to do some shopping 176.00 that is. Whe. Approached at check out if I ever did scan and go I had said no, I was told if I want to do it I can save 10.00. I agreed. I was told to save a 10.00 or more item till the end which I did a 15.00 item. She than rang it off and the item was 5.00. She had me put my sams membership In my in for card # ect. And I was done it gave me a Bar code and off I went to the front t door. WEllllll.... At the front door I was told I only paid for the plates 5.00. Also they had a heafty new Manger come along and was Rude ad beans and was bound I did not scan anything. I told her get the lady that helped me she said.... No she is working! I said well I will go get her ... I came across the store manager and I was not very nice to him and ( sorry) bit it all has to do with that rude new manager 1. Got a pair of eyeglasses, close to $400. They gave me headache. I should have gone back right away, but Sam's Club is not close. I didn't know that, after 30 days, they couldn't be returned. This is a wonderful place to shop. If you want something, you will most likely find it, except for Guiness beer. Get a premium business or plus membership so you can come early. Staff is super-friendly and helpful unlike the surly associates at Walmart. If you do not come early, you will have to deal with every doofus, moron, room-temperature IQ idiot, and clueless douchebag who lives in the Ann Arbor, Pittsfield, Ypsilanti, and Saline region. If you need a disabled parking spot, you are screwed. I have come twice and have gotten massively screwed. Good luck. Everyone with a disabled permit (and some who are too lazy to park normally) comes here to light money on fire. They wander around aimlessly getting in your way and blocking the aisles while self-actualizing while looking at Bud Light. Jennifer should NOT be scanning people at the exit. Probably the most arrogant and rude person I think I've ever met. Bought $200 of groceries, forgot to scan the eggs on the bottom- honest mistake and I made a joke about not wanting to go to jail for eggs. Trust me I'm not going to drop $200 just to get away with eggs. She made a sharp comment back as I was walking back to buy the eggs- I wanted to resolve this whole thing with no difficulty and no tension. Jennifer was looking for a fight. She made me feel like a criminal. For freaking eggs. Bought them and came back to get scanned again. She went through the whole thing again and I just stood there and took it. I go there weekly. We have tried numerous times to place an order for plain cupcakes and was treated rudely by all their associates at different times. Plain cupcakes! No decorations. Usually we could place an order 24 hours in advance and never have an issue. I get places are understaffed but this is beyond ridiculous. read more

Pros: good selection Cons: SERVICE IS APPALLINGLY RUDE, long gas lines. I've been to alot of sams clubs and retail stores in different states and countries. I can truly say I have never seen a staff less enthused, unfriendly, and unhelpful. Now not all of them. The door greeters have all been nice, I also found the customer service lady who is always there to be nice. Sadly thats about it. Cross your fingers you can get in and out without interacting with the workers. It is beyond disappointing. Truly to the point I don't want to shop there and would go elsewhere to avoid their cold attitudes. Nobody needs that type of garbage nor wants their miserable attitude to rub off on them. The gas is comparable to a few others in the area and the lines here are insane. Id just go to the other gas stations for the same price and skip the long sams lines. In closing, yeah its a sams club. If I was HQ and actually cared about the brand, I'd send someone down here to change the culture. Id love to see this location on undercover boss. I want to extend my personal gratitude to Zac in the automotive department. He noticed the heavy weight guy deny service to my Auntie. He had already clocked out, but he heard him tell my Aunt to go outside and park by the door and wait in the cold until he installed 4 tires first. Zac told her, "You don't have to wait. That will take a while. I'll take care of that for you" He not only filled the 2 tires requested, He checked all her tires and adjusted the air for each tire. Thanks Zac! I remember when it used to be PACE owned by KMart... but after many changes, new building, it looks good... it can get hectic during the weekends, so be warned.. one thing I like about Sam's Club - they have special hours for small business owners, which enables you to go in there at 7am to shop w/o all the human traffic :) read more

It's gets even worse. I'm adding anything perishable, like produce, to the list of things I wouldn't buy at Sam's club. Again, because they have the worst customer service I've ever experienced. I purchased a bag of avacados that sat on my counter for 10 days and would not ripen. They literally were rotting inside even though they did not darken or soften on the outside. I brought them to Sam's club hoping to get an exchange or refund and they refused because it had been more than 7 days since I purchased the garbage avacados. They understood that they didn't ripen, and even joked about the bananas that are experiencing the same phenomenon. If it can't go in your pantry or on your car (like tires) I advise you to go elsewhere. Anywhere else! read more

I went to Sams Club on Carpenter Road on a Saturday morning. The location was not very busy. As current Costco customer I wanted to see if it was time to get a Sams Club membership. I was informed by customer service that I needed to get back home and print a one day pass customer number. I asked the Customer Service Representative if she could help me and she responded that I needed a number and she could do nothing for me at the store. This is possibly the lowest level of customer service I have experienced. A question to Sam's Club management. Do you seriously expect people to come and shop at your place and spend their money with this lousy and non existent customer service? If that's how you treat your potential customers before you have their money, I do not want to know how you treat your existing customers after you have their money. There are way more friendlier places. Avoid this one. Very very Sad. read more

As you can probably guess based on the exorbitant number of check-ins I have at this location, this is the Sam's Club closest to me. We live about three miles away from this place so it's my go-to at 8pm when my hubby drinks the last bottle of water and eats the last of the Indiana Popcorn that I love so much. The place serves it's purpose, but clearly I've been to better Sam's Club locations. The staff here are like the police; plentiful and just around every corner, until you need them. Then, you can never find them and it takes forever for them to get to you. I've scaled their warehouse shelves and reached overhead to get things down that I should not be climbing to get, just to avoid having to wait fifty eleven aeons for service. The selection here also needs work. I know that Sam's Clubs all throughout the US are increasing the amount of organic foods they stock, but the selection varies based on the area. I'm assuming the demand in this area isn't the greatest because neither is the selection. Bottom line: It's close so I'll continue to frequent this place. But, when time permits, I head over to Costco and get everything I need in one place. read more

Must say that everything pretty cheap in price and the people, when you find them are happy to deal with. Boodah-san treat himself to bag of gigantic oranges! Ah, so sweet... and juicy! The seafood section is especially nice... love crableg! Yummy!! Lot of eye candy at the Sam... big TV... wow, BIG TV everywhere. Boodah bought Sony LCD and took home. Wife-san loved it... I dropped off 2 VHS tapes 2 1/2 weeks ago to have them converted to DVD's. When I called today, the customer service desk put me on hold while she had to go look to see if they were in. She said no one was in the photo section. She came back and said they were there. I drove the 10 miles to pick them up, only to find out there was no one working in the photo area and when someone tried to help me, they gave me my VHS tapes. They had never been sent out. Upon speaking with management all they could/would do was apologize. Very poor business when you don't employ someone for a department. I took my tapes and left. I will never use their photo department again, and I'd suggest no one else does either. read more

We have been customers for several years This is a decent overall store, though the positive aspects are easily balanced by the negative in virtually all areas. The areas I'd like to focus on is the quality, variety, and price of products tying into customer service. Price per unit is usually better than what is native to regular chains; but overall remains higher than Costco. Deals prices vary and only a small number stand out in a given year. Prices can be beaten with regular deals elsewhere and coupons do not transition well from regular-to-bulk supply. Ex. $1.00 off bread will still only take $1.00 off if the package includes dual loaves. The store includes a lot of bulk variety packs which have an unfortunate mix of popular/unpopular items. These mismatches are found in everything from cereal to chips and cheese. While some of the individual brands are sold specifically; this is not a regular occurrence. While I understand this with some individual chip servings; it seems odd to offer flavored Doritos, popcorn, caramel corn, and vinegar chips in the same mix. Meanwhile, cereal choices are severely limited- and not even to mainstays like raisin brand. Customer service ranges from outstanding to seriously lacking, depending on the time of day (and apparently astronomical alignment). The stocking system seems to be nonexistent as expiration dates will run over a two week span or more with no regard to placement. The cart handlers are often goofing around in the parking lot, even when there are people waiting. The 3-4 'family carts' are usually left in one of the cart paddocks and are all showing signs of neglect. A handy wipe ain't gonna touch the horror that is the restraint system. The meat department went through some employee cycling a year or so ago... and it still shows today. If the rating system could be broken down, I would give this section a 1-star. I have brought back prepackaged bacon where one side had gone bad. This happens and it was an easy swap due to a great customer care center team. The issue I have is that their whole selection looks like it should be in the Manager's Selection bin at Kroger. This suspect brown mystery meat is out bright and early, leaving this reviewer to think that it is left in the open selection bin rather than taken back to a properly refrigerated storage unit at night. read more

I am a Club member but after today, I am considering dropping the membership. This morning, I found my self waiting in a LONG line to get close to the Sams in order to get gas. (It's located at a huge intersection that is slammed w commuters accessing US23). I managed to turn into the front drive when my car came to a complete stop...I ran out of gas trying to get to the pumps! (I tried to access AAA, but was unable to get thru, due to dead WiFi area here). I called the store to speak with customer service. I explained the situation & was put on hold. She then returned to ask if I had a gas can! No!...(first time in my life I've run out of gas!). Here's the part of customer service that I have a complaint about..."no, we are NOT ALLOWED to help you"!! What!?! Just a guess, but they probably SELL gas cans!! They have a tire & service center...NO ONE could walk out with a can to help me?? SO, having no family to call, I connected with a collision service nearby and the owner is bringing me some gas!! (Thankfully a Good Samaritan stopped and helped push my car to the side of the drive so I would not get hit while I waited for help!) I wish I could give a ZERO STAR! read more

Unlike most Sam's Clubs that I have been to-- this location rarely has sufficient check out lanes open. On most week night evenings (in my experience) there is only one or two check out lanes. They rely heavily on the self checkout (which I prefer not to use, especially with the bulk of the products at Sam's). You can always expect about a 10 minute wait in line. Otherwise, it is always well stocked with good variety and great prices on gas. read more

She was able to answer my questions and help me load up the canopy onto my cart. She is amazing and because of her, I will drive the extra 20 mins to this location. The grocery part is fine but don't go see the optical people. She (the eye doc) messed up my prescription the first time around so i had to go a second time for her to fix it. Not only that but i needed them to fix a scratch and when they came back (when my parents came to drop them off at school, two hours away) The lenses were fixed of course but the prescription is completely different .. now i can't use them because of this. I just got done with my first visit and must say I was not surprised at how inefficiently this place was run from the membership desk all the way to the exit line for showing your receipts. All lines were super long, the staff was not knowledgable about their work(membership desk and tire center), many registers were not working and the staff told me they had requested for the card printers (as both were not working properly) to be replaced but that they are not listened to. The membership desk staff were running around crazy asking each other for help as many associates seemed to encounter issues with their transactions or were just poorly trained and didn't know how to handle situations. The self check out I used didn't read my card properly. It took 6 tries and an associate to get it to work. Efficiency and customer service is not what I will ever remember Michigan for. Ive lived here two years and honestly..it doesn't get better. They have no idea what a well run establishment or superb customer service looks like. For me the savings on food is not worth the hassle at this Sam's Club. read more

Ypsilanti Sam's Club (store #6667) is the worst branch ever. Things are unorganized and people are rude. The last person you want to speak to is the manager. Very rude and irresponsible. The other day I had an issue due to lack of organization in the club. Instead of apologizing and correcting the problem, this manager scolded me, turned away, and walked away from me. I am never going to this branch again. I wrote to the Sams Club Customer service, and if I did not receive a satisfactory reply, I will cancel my Sams club membership and join another wholesale provider in town. DO NOT purchase the GROUPON for Sam's club membership!!! I JUST did this morning and Sam's club website doesn't process your membership voucher, you are supposed to enter your redemption code on their website, and it just sits there spinning for LIFE! I called the store, the customer service lady told me "we don't really know anything about that, that's something with Groupon, that's a thing through Groupon" I said, well, I paid for a membership to YOUR CLUB, SAM'S CLUB, via Groupon...but it's Sam's club website that is not processing . my membership correctly. She said, "well, I don't know anything about how that works. It's all new. We don't really know anything about it". I said, well should I just come into the store and customer service to get it figured out? SHE said, "sure, at least we can try to figure it out". WHAT the HELL??? I am furious. Get your stuff together Sam's club before you try and offer a deal via Groupon. Corporate, TRAIN your STAFF. Wow. Sorry I made this mistake in giving Sam's club another try.
