I've been to this Costco several times. They are always well stocked and they have a large selection of alcoholic beverages unlike the Costco stores in Maryland. Love costco. Our house is furnished with costco furniture and appliances. Our bellies are filled with food and produce from costco. Our car is filled with gas from Costco. Customer service is top notch and basically return anything anytime, used or not. Executive membership is basically free with the cashback program. What's not to love? Avoid coming on weekends. The only other Costco in the general area I have been to is in Pentagon City. Both are places I would totally be fine with not visiting more than 2-3 times per year. We went on a weekday (Veteran's Day actually), and it was grossly overcrowded. Sadly I observed multiple people taking masks off while inside. The lines were sooooo long. I will admit Costco is great for bulk toilet paper, paper towels, Kleenex, and other health/beauty items. I love the variety of some of their fresh items, but I just have a household including myself and a young child, so I can't do a whole lot with bulk. Recent purchases: Nutrigrain bar box, goldfish big box, turkey lunch meat, Paleo Thai coconut chicken curry, razors, shampoo, conditioner, and chicken tortilla soup (which is actually very flavorful and delicious). I actually do not have a membership, but my mom was visiting and was asked by a friend to get 20 bottles of this cognac that only the DC Costco had. Well we got all 20 bottles in addition to the aforementioned items. I prefer the covered parking in PC and it's significantly closer to me, so if we are sent on a recon mission for alcohol again, I will lobby hard to go to PC, although I dislike both locations equally. read more

Dr. Kenneth Kuemeta at the Washington DC pharmacy on Market Street is a great pharmacist! For the most part, the other employees could not care any less about the distress their telling you they don't have your medication in stock would cause, he always steps in when he is there and finds the med his colleagues would have had you return in a few days to collect. He is always courteous and professional and his presence makes an average pharmacy extraordinary, particularly for those of us with chronic and life threatening health needs. We love Costco and we love this Costco location! This is a very new location with by far some of the nicest, friendliest staff of any store that I have been in. There is a gas station on site with incredible prices. The parking lot is very large and easy to navigate. The samples, and you know how Costco is about samples, the samples are abundant and if you want more, go right over and get some more - the sampling team is wonderful. The liquor and wine prices are terrific and the selection is great. We stop here each and every time we visit our daughter in DC and pick up all her favorite items and some of ours as well. If you are not a member, join, the prices are great but just make sure you have the space to store the large sized packages. read more

Get a membership and keep it. I am a single guy and that doesn't matter. This place has it all for everyone. They have a great deal on fruits, like berries, that aren't really too bulky for one person. Other items like cleaning supplies, milk, snacks, cereal and alcohol are at great deals too. I often buy meats here, like fresh chicken breast, that are in bulk, but are individually wrapped in smaller portions, for easy freezing. It is a lot better than buying from your grocery store and the quality is wonderful. If you are having a party, they have a bunch of great platters that will turn any party into a fun time. This costco offers gas too, so fill it up when you visit. I would avoid going during the weekend and right after work, b/c this is when it is at its busiest. If you can manage to get there midday then you will have an excellent time. Electronics are also a great deal here, TVs and computers are at great prices, and their return policy is best in the business. No questions asked, if you are not satisfied they take the product back. The costomer service staff both at the counter and at the food court are very disrespectful and rude to COSTUMERS, you know the people who actually come to the establishment and spend their hard earned money here. I think it's classless and stupid. I live 12 minutes from this establishment and I'll still take that 30 minutes ride to Maryland. I work too hard for people to talk to me like I'm less than them. At costumer service the rude cashiers name Kimberly, her supervisor Bernadette however was very helpful and very understand. Kimberly was constantly trying to embarrass and make the situation harder my friend who was making the return. The sales associate Greg who rung us up initial was also very helpful and a very nice guy who did his job with a smile and made me feel like he was happy to help us. The cashier at the food counter who was very nasty and mean for no reason wasn't wearing a name tag so I didn't get her name. We hadn't visited earlier due to reports about cars being broken into. The store seems to have that under control now. This warehouse is just as nice as the Pentagon City location (and parking is less of a hassle here!). We enjoyed eating our way through the samples handed out by employees. The fruit selection was nice. The candy items are more expensive now, but since we are trying to eat healthier, it is less tempting! Hubby likes getting shorts at Costco. I like the 6 packs of anklet socks. We weren't as impressed by the food items, but it is convenient sitting down for a bit after shopping. You can't beat a hot dog for $1.50 with a drink (plus refill). I prefer the pizza at Pentagon City. The cashier was really nice. DC's first Costco and we're proud it's in NE DC. It's right off a major highway making it accessible to many. Unlike other Costcos in the area, they is PLENTY of parking and the lines move faster (a huge plus). They have everything a normal Costco would from food in bulk, giant stuffed animals, patio furniture, books, and even the samples (No samples are better than Costco samples). They also have a very large alcohol section making it a true DC store. If you're throwing a party, come here and fill up on cheaper gas at the Costco gas station on your way out. read more

However, there are two issues with this location #1 - SHOPPING CART APOCALYPSE. Last few times I've been, there has been a significant cart shortage. There are piles and piles of carts in the parking lot. Get them back in the store or better yet use the quarter coin system from Aldi! #2 - Mice. Mouses. Small running rats. . Yup. Like many DC establishments, this store got mice. You can see them darting from pallet to pallet especially in the dried good/chips section near the checkout. Doesn't bother me as much but it's seriously a sanitation issue. Hope management can take care of it! All in all, these issues don't keep me from coming. Costco for life! read more

Huge shout out to Costco workers (2441 Market St NE, Washington, DC 20018) working the gas pumps today (5/13/202 ~2pm)!!! I wish I knew all their names but I only remember one, Denzel. I pulled in to fuel up, put my vehicle into park and when attempting to shift to drive, the shifter wouldn't budge! I was stuck in park blocking the lane. I called for the guys to please help me, they all rushed over, worked as a team and moved me into a shaded area. They were all very helpful in trying to help me trouble shoot the problem. Tire shop Review: Erik in the tire shop is an excellent worker, he updated the members on what was going on with their cars, and seemed very knowledgeable. His customer service was second to none. His team also worked hard. Thanks guys! Food court: not the fastest, but their latte machine has a consistent balance of frozen and NOT frothy like some of the other broken machines at other locations. Good customer service too. Store: extremely convenient location in or around DC. Friendly staff. Not the fastest, but good customer device goes a long way. It's not too crowded yet. I don't like driving into NE, but if I'm in the area and need to purchase food as well as liquor (btw they have the most comprehensive selection of alcohol). A lot of people on here are complaining about peak hours and how busy it can get, but honestly I think it's loads better than the other two Costcos nearby (Pentagon and Wheaton). This Costco has a huge easily accessible open parking lot, while the Pentagon location has a gated lot (with validation) that can be a nightmare to get out of at peak times and the Wheaton Costco shares the mall parking, which can also be infuriating. The lines do get annoying, but it isn't different than any of the other Costcos I've been to in multiple cities. Generally, Costco isn't a quick in and out type of place, at least for me. Personal product preferences to note about this Costco: 1) they don't sell Mountain Dew and (2) they don't sell Optimal Wit. I have to go to Pentagon for these or settle for not buying them in bulk. (This is a plea to Costco to start carrying these two items at this location.) Otherwise, I do about 90% of my shopping here. If you go on the weekend, you have to fight crowds, but they will have lots of samples to try, which has resulted in me learning about and buying new products. Costco has really upped my meal prep game. And I'm not sure if I'm just old now, but some of the Costco clothes seem pretty stylish to me? I've bought quite a few pairs of pants (skinny jeans) and a great 32 degrees jacket, which has kept me very warm during the winter months. I am also 99% sure this is the only Costco in the greater DC area that sells gas, although they only sell 87 and 91. I usually go for 89, so this isn't as helpful for me. read more

I need a Costco intervention. I go in for water and I come out with 4 pairs of pants. I go in for salad and I come out with sock slippers and 2 sets of leisure outfits. I have a problem. It's just that the prices are so good and the quality is great! If you don't like it they take it back but I always love it! The Gas prices, best in DC. It's only 2.3 miles from my house so when I forget something I can just dash in but I never come out with just that! They have a great selection of vegan, and vegetarian items, as well as organic and antibiotic free. They just have affordable, quality food and I appreciate them for that. I have to knock off a star for the rude and disrespectful staff in the tire center. I have had several negative encounters with them, which I've had to bring to the attention of store management. Not only do they have rude and nasty attitudes, they are arrogant and condescending towards female customers. They suck their teeth and get offended when asked a question (as if they're being inconvenienced), and the male staff members I've encountered (especially the tire center manager) take a condescending tone when asked them to put air instead of nitrogen in tires. On more than one occasion I've been subjected to an unwanted 'science lesson' from a condescending member of their staff. I get the nitrogen vs. oxygen thing and all the supposed benefits to the tires and the blah blah.... however, at the end of the day, this is MY vehicle: MY personal property, and ultimately I have the final say in deciding what I want in my tires. Instead of simply honoring my request, or informing me that he would be unable to fulfill said request, the tire center manager went as far as to outright lie to me and say that the tire center did not have a machine to put air in tires on site, only nitrogen. I was here a few months ago to get air put in my tire, so I know that what he said was not true. (And when I spoke to the store manager about this incident, she confirmed that there is indeed an air machine onsite.) For whatever reason, this guy just plain didn't want to do what I ask. After repeatedly stating in my preferences to him, he proceeded to aggressively pitch me on nitrogen (including another unwanted 'science lesson'). When it was obvious that I wasn't sold, he then began to raise his voice and argue with me about my preferences. "I mean, why you want Air instead of nitrogen?" "You just don't understand the science behind it." "If your tire gets low you can just put regular air in it... it's not like it's gonna blow up!! (if that's that the case, why won't you just put air in it in the first that?!) "I mean, there's really no such thing as regular air anyway. You don't even breathe pure oxygen... there's nitrogen in the air you breathing right now" (Like, wtf does that have to do with my tires?!) On and on he went with this BS. Were I male, I assure you we would not be having this kind of conversation. However, I can assure you that I will be aggressively following up with store management to ensure that other customers won't have to put up with this same condescension. ******************************************** This is my preferred Costco in the DMV area. Costco is knowing for parking clusterfu-ks, but this one manages traffic very well. They even have police directing and controlling traffic on its busiest days. The gas station area is also managed very well. The lines appear long, but they move quickly and smoothly, and there is always someone right there to help. The fact that this location sells alcohol (and LOTS of it!) is reason enough to make it my favorite. It is a great place to stock up if you are hosting a gathering, or if you just want to refresh your own personal stash. And some of the Kirkland Brand booze and mixers are not bad (except for the spiced rum. That ish is nasty!). But more than that, it sells a wide variety of high end goods that you would not expect to find in...Costco. Every now and then you will find unusual things for sale like high end designer bags... or, ya know, a $275,000 piece of jewelry. It's a crap shoot, but it just adds to the allure of this location. Then of course there are the staples: the delicious samples, the crisp, fresh produce, the delectable baked goods, the dazzling electronics. The ever-changing inventory is reason enough to warrant frequents visits. The first incident at COSTCO there was a time at Costco at Market place NE Washington DC. The employee near the water section tells me rudely to move because they're about to load or unload water. All I was trying to do is to get some water for my family. I was there first before they came to work in that area. One of the Costco employees came afterward. I was there and the Costco Employee insisted on me to move. I followed directions but his approach was not professional. Second time Oct 2nd, 2019 between 4-4:30 PM: A Costco employee guy where the water section is at: As I'm getting my third water on the cart, I noticed that a Costco employee is approaching me walking like a bull that's about to charge. I noticed him charging and walking fast angry so I ignore but all of a sudden he asked me if my son is my child. I said yes and then he said that "you need to tell your son not to sit on the merchandise" (Costco staff) to the left of the water. As I'm just putting in my last case of water into my cart. I look at him and say "I didn't even see my son do that" (I was lifting heavy water into my cart in the store). His reply was "customers won't buy things children sit on" (Costco staff). I ignore walk off and my fiancé said: "isn't that the same guy that was rude and unprofessional the last times we came to Costco trying to buy some water." I said yes that was him. Unfortunately he makes me not want to come back to Costco although I love the store. My son and daughter heard everything. This was a very uncomfortable experience. My son felt like he did something wrong. My 6-year-old son suffers from pain in his feet which we're treating and he's been sick. He needs to take small breaks. He weighs about 30+ pounds. There is so much to like about this location: the gas, the liquor, the wine, the USDA prime meats, party supplies, the eyeglass department... I do feel they are not as efficient as Fairfax and Arlington stores I have visited in some ways. They are crazy crowded however. I do have a concern that the produce is often dated from two weeks ago. It goes bad quickly after purchase. They really need to improve the timing on their lettuce and other goods. I am not the only customer who checks the produce dates. I also feel that the line for the restaurant stand with pizza, hotdogs and sausage sandwiches etc. at front is absolutely ridiculous on the weekends. The price is fantastic but I refused to wait in a line that takes so long. They would make more money if it became more efficient. All that said, I still think the pluses outweigh the negatives. Plus if you're someone being posted abroad, you can talk to a manager about getting your consumables or HHE shipment wrapped and held for the movers to pick up directly from the store. Dear Yelpers, Let me start by saying I've probably been to this Costco 50+ times. The problem with this location is inconsistent customer service. Although the lines can be long and it's like a crapshoot trying to figure out the best time to shop to avoid unruly kids pushing carts 5 times their size or people on a leisurely stroll through the store, the selection is fine and items are always stocked in my experience. Can you tell I'm one of those "get in, get out" type shoppers when it comes to Costco? Guilty. The quality of customer service is where I take issue. Sometimes, Costco employees are friendly and helpful. Other times, not so much. And where I seem to run into the most problems is not at the door or on the floor, but at the register. Here's the most recent situation I ran into that is very illustrative of my experiences there. I was shopping by myself, and had about 25 items in my cart. When I get to the register, the bagger greets me with, "Costo card. Take the light items out and put them on the belt." Dang, she doesn't beat around the bush. She then walks away and starts talking to the cashier. I'm left to decide what stays in the cart and unload it myself. Wait, what? Ok. So I figure it out on my own and wait while my items are rung up. I probably unloaded about 75% of my items. That's when the bagger walks up to me and says, "I asked you to take all the light items out." Me: "I did take the light items out." Bagger picks up one items and says, "This is light." PIcks up another one and says, "This is light, too." Me: *side-eyes and probably neck rolls if I'm being honest* "Are we going to argue about this?" At this point, I'm angry but trying not to let it show. Bagger: "No, heavy items should stay in the cart. And my manager doesn't like to see light items in the cart." I say nothing, and think, how is that my problem? I pay, mull over what happened a little bit, and decide to tell a manager about what happened. I walk up to a man standing at the nearby desk. Me: "Excuse me, good morning. Are you the manager?" Him: "I'm the supervisor. How can I help you?" Me: "I need to speak with a manager." Him: "If you tell me what you need, I can tell you who to talk to." Me: "I need to speak to somebody about a customer service issue." Him: "Tell me what the issue is and I can help you." Let's pause for a minute, Yelp community. I'm starting to feel like this supervisor thinks he's a gatekeeper or something. Maybe he is. But I'm not here for that. All he's doing is making me more frustrated. Me: "I've been having some very contentious interactions with Costco employees at the register lately, including this one with you." Him: "What do you mean?" Me: "Let me tell you what just happened." I then proceed to give him a rundown of what just occurred. HIs response? A very flat: "I'm sorry to hear that. I'll talk to her about that. What her manager thinks doesn't matter for you." I didn't really feel like he meant it, and I wasn't satisfied with the interaction. I ended the conversation by suggesting that I'd probably take my business to another location. But I'm kidding myself when I say that. This Costco has liquor, gas, and it's convenient. I'll shop here as long as I live in the district. Let me add this. A couple of months ago, I had a similar issue with a bagger. I watched her unload the groceries of the customer in front of me. She finishes, starts gossiping with the cashier, and does not lift a finger to help me. Instead of helping me unload all of my stuff, she asks me for my Costco card. Maybe I was being petty, but I made her wait until my stuff was unloaded before I gave her my card. She never helped me. The cashier finishes ringing up my stuff, and the bagger never comes over to help me. I'm left to load all of my stuff into my reusable bags. Instead, she helps unload the cart of the able-bodied couple behind me. She didn't help me unload, and she didn't help me pack my stuff. I have a problem with that. I called the manager (because I had somewhere to be) and she was much more understanding than the "supervisor" I talked to last weekend. At the end of the day, it's obvious that either training is inconsistent, some employees just don't care, or management is not ensuring that employees are providing quality customer service. read more

If you call, hold your breath to speak to a supervisor. I had asked the supervisor from the mechanic department to reach one for me. Stephanie, greeted me with quite an attitude. She's a total waste of time. Just call corporate and cancel your membership. I recently had to write a very negative review for Marlo furniture so I felt I needed to put some positive energy out there! So I figured why not write about my favorite place ever? I love Costco so much! I've been shopping at Costco for as long as I can remember. When I was a kid my parents shopped there and now as an adult with my own kids I find it an excellent place. This location in particularly does a really good job of moving the lines quickly (even when it's super busy...and I'm usually shopping with two littles so this is very appreciated). The receipt checkers at the door are super friendly! They always draw my girls a smiley face on the back of the receipts...it's really cute. They have a great wine, beer, and liquor selection here too! I've rarely gotten bad food (it's usually been a bag of avocados that didn't ripen well...and honestly if I had brought it back Costco would have refunded me). I mean seriously...Costco's return policy is out of this world! If don't like something...nothing has to be wrong with it...you simply don't like it you can return it...not questions asked...no receipt. Anytime I've had an issue with a product from Costco they have been EXTREMELY helpful and have always resolved the issue. This company is simply awesome. Ok, I feel better now.
