Since you've heard about the parking lot and the too small footprint, I won't harp on those. My ire is reserved for the tire center, which has never met an appointment it couldn't keep. I am writing from a chair in the waiting area about ten minutes after closing. My car has JUST been taken back, an hour after my appointment. I have no clue what's going on here. The staff is always the same, the customers are always annoyed and if you complain to the staff their recommendation is (no joke) to go to Frederick instead for tire service. Change something, or shut it down and use it for more store space. No one is happy with what's happening here, and I feel bad for the employees who are working well past close on over-booked appointments. read more

My hubs convinced me to give this location another chance since its hot and didn't want a long drive. My first suggestion is getting the executive membership it has 2 major perks... its a hefty price of $130 membership... but sometimes they have deals where you get rebates... If you shop a lot you will get a 2% rebate check at the end of the year.. During the week you'll get to shop 1 hour early ... so you get in at 9am.. Weekends I think its 9:30. Closed on all major holidays. Now the employees are a lot more nicer now. The sample people are usually there after 11am. The selections are usually fully stocked in the morning.... They have the best rib eye selections and best jumbo shrimp... Check out seems better. Food Court All beef Hot dogs n drink still $1.50 The pizza ..I think its still the same... I can't enjoy pizza like I used to.. so I can't tell you if its good or not.. Now comes the part I dislike of this particular Costco.. yall already know.... The parking still SUCKS!! Although I quickly dropped by this Costco because I was running other errands in their area. So, I figured why not kill some time at my local Costco. ;) I did appreciate that the layout of this Costco is pretty much the same as the one in my neighborhood. Perhaps, all Costcos have a similar layout. This Costco definitely had way more sampling stations compared to the one in my area. During my visit, I did not have too many issues trying to find the items that I needed. Shoot, I even picked up some items that I did NOT need. ;) Overall, I thought customer service and the prices were pretty good. The parking situation was the one thing that I did not like about this location (oh, and the fact that it does not have a gas station). Then again, crappy parking seems to be a characteristic for this area. I thought the parking lot was way too congested; it too me about 10 minutes to enter the parking lot. For instance, there is a lane that turns into the parking lot. However, that lanes forces drivers to drive directly in front of the store where customers are leaving or entering the store. Most of the wait to find parking is waiting for folks to cross the "street" while entering or leaving the store. Because of this situation, folks have to wait in a long queue of cars just to enter the parking lot. While it's too late to do this, I think it would be much more efficient to have cars enter only through the rear of the parking lot. read more

The lady at the door told us to stand outside in to 35 degree weather and snow until 1000. I told her that every Costco we have been to has let us in at 0930. She told us to go outside. And if you get stuck parking on the lower levels good luck trying to get all the stuff back your car because you need to take the stairs. Also the drivers here are wild and love making wide af turns. Before you go to this location you better meditate and take a Xanax first. Let go of things you cannot control. People here will mow you down with their carts. I have such a love/hate relationship with this store. I love that it's so close by but I absolutely hate the parking lot and how rude some people can be. Sir, madame, or whoever, you are not the only one with a cart here. Please don't block everyone. The garage has been under construction for at least three or four years at this point. Similar to the carts, everyone seems to think they're the only ones on the road. With that being said, I will risk life and limb time and time again to get all of my Costco goodies. They're always well-stocked and high quality, except for the produce. The broccoli is sometimes questionable. It's a staple in our household, so I'm always beyond disappointed when I see that it's looking a little too slimy to take home. Gaithersburg Costco has a ton of Asian foods, which I'm a fan of. However, I wish they still carried the frozen salmon burgers. They haven't for years yet every other Costco I've been to in the area (Virginia and Columbia) has them. It hardly seems fair. I have a confession to make, I am an impulse shopper. Costco is one of those places, that impulse shoppers find tempting. Costco, not only sells all of the cleaning, food, and paper supplies. But, you can find Halloween and Christmas decorations in August. Oh, yeah! There were all kinds of tasty treats. Yes, I succumbed to a variety 3 pack of cookies. I tried to stop. I really did. Then, there was the book section, where I picked up, Colleen Hoover's, It Ends With Us. Not my fault, it had Blake Lively on the cover. I always tell myself that I am getting a bargain. Costco has good value for the money. But, do I really need 250 paper plates? Oh, yes, I do. : ) People there are so helpful. There were long lines at the checkout, so I went to the check yourself out line. A nice lady came over and helped me scan my items. Thank you for your kindness. There is always that moment of pure shock and silence, when the total amount due appears on the screen. I am in disbelief! How did I do that? Costco is, well, complicated. I love the prices, the large selection, the high quality of most of the products. But, the Gaithersburg Costco is horrible. Hideous parking. Over-crowded. Poor service. Bad customer service. Long lines that snake through the store. However, for years, I have really liked the chicken salad. The chicken was moist and so flavorful. The ingredients were minimal and were mostly fresh tasting items like celery, onions, etc. Yesterday, though, I picked up a package of chicken salad and brought it home for lunch. I noticed that it looked different but, I thought, it has been a long time since I bought it. I drove home, hungry for the Costco chicken salad I had in my car. When I served it, I was immediately skeptical. There was little, if any mayonnaise. Instead, the chicken was swimming in oil. It smelled like chemicals. The list of ingredients read like a science product. And the taste was terrible. Sure, the chicken itself tasted good but the mixers did not. Oily, salty, simply not right. Why oh why did Costco mess with the chicken salad??? It used to be so good, now it sucks. I will never buy Costco chicken salad again. I will, instead, but a rotisserie chicken and make the darn chicken salad myself. Maybe, on reflection, they have done me a favor. I should be making my own food anyway. Lesson learned. My mother brought her car for new tires. We received a voicemail from the shop saying the rims were cracked. Despite that, and without getting her consent, they installed the new tires on those same rims and handed the car back with newly punctured tires. We have a third-party report from a few weeks earlier indicating no rim cracks. This felt unsafe and careless. If you believe rims are cracked, you pause, call the customer, and document next steps, you don't proceed and create a dangerous situation. Now we're out time, transportation, and dealing with a damaged set of brand-new tires. I've saved the voicemail and photos and can provide them. I'm asking management to review service records and CCTV, acknowledge the mistake, and make it right: replace or refund the tires, verify the rims with us present, and reimburse related costs. Until then, 1 star. I've trusted Costco for years, but this experience was the opposite of the customer care and safety standards I expect. read more

I love Costco's food court and products, but the parking and crowdedness make me think twice before I go. It does not matter what time or day of the week, it is always crowded. The optical department has terrible customer service and organization. I had to wait almost 1.5 hours to be helped and in the end, they ignored the ticketing system and helped entitled customers who were complaining first. I got new glasses and the the optician did not offer to adjust them. Thankfully I work near the Wheaton Costco and the parking is far better there. read more

I can tell you that parking can get crazy at this location when it is the rush times. Do not go on weekends as it can be extremely stressful. People driving all over, people walking everywhere with their carts and not paying attention. Gotta be extra careful! 4 stars for the inventory and reasonable prices for bulk items. 2 stars for parking and rude people everywhere. I am writing to express my deep frustration and disappointment with the unacceptable treatment I received from a staff member at your Gaithersburg, Maryland location during my recent visit to the pharmacy. The incident occurred on May 15, 2025, at approximately 1:46 PM EST. I went there for the pharmacy. Not being a frequent Costco shopper, I wasn't aware that a membership card wasn't required for pharmacy visits. I used a family member's membership card (they gave me in case I needed it), and the staff member at the entrance told me to go to customer service to get my own. However, when I went to customer service, I was told clearly that I didn't need a membership card to access the pharmacy. What happened next was incredibly upsetting. The same woman who stopped me at the entrance continued to follow me through the store, even as I made my way to the pharmacy. I understand she may have been trying to do her job, but her behavior crossed the line. I was on a business call with my boss, and she repeatedly interrupted me, insisting that I couldn't be there without my own membership card--despite me trying to tell her I was just there for the pharmacy. Her behavior was invasive, disrespectful, and made me feel extremely uncomfortable. I felt harassed and embarrassed, especially since she wouldn't stop even when I was standing right outside the pharmacy area. She even threatened to get someone to deal with me, and I followed her to speak with the manager myself. When I explained the situation to the manager, they confirmed that I did not need a membership card to use the pharmacy. Even then, the staff member continued to argue, falsely claiming that I never told her I was there for the pharmacy. This woman, who I believe had long hair and spoke Spanish, was aggressive and completely lacking in customer service etiquette. Her actions disrupted my important work call, caused me emotional distress, and completely ruined my day. I had taken a half-day off from work specifically to handle this errand, and because of her behavior, I left the store without getting anything done. Our family has been loyal Costco members for many years, but after this humiliating and hostile experience, we are seriously considering switching to another retailer like Sam's Club or BJ's. No one deserves to be treated like this--especially not while following the rules and trying to access healthcare services. I hope you take this complaint seriously and address this behavior so no one else has to experience what I did. read more

I am a Costco fan. This is a review of this particular branch in Gaithersburg. It's seems always overcrowded (good for them!); people consequently kind of pushy. The parking lot is not designed to handle this kind of traffic and if there are tons of drivers that feel they have right stop their car in aisle and wait near the front of aisle, blocking the queue of cars all the way down the service road, rather them simply finding an empty spot a little farther from the store entrance. Note: as mentioned this store is always busy, so circulating is the best you can do for you and everybody else to get parked quicker and frustrating everybody else behind you more than necessary. There is a parking garage with an inconvenient lower deck, and therefore usually a little easier to find a spot in. Except there is no elevator so you you have to walk your cart a long way on rough pavement thru all the angry cars to get back to your spot on the lower deck. Unless you can carry your stuff down the stairs. God forbid that you have something to return, the line is usually terrible here. Same with the snack bar, even tho your waiting for number to be called, the wait is usually pretty long. I have tried different times of the day and I have found it different of very busy. I think the store is smaller than others. By comparison, for example Charlottesville, Va store is soo much more pleasant in every aspect, IMO, AND it has a gas station. Frederick Md's Costco is a somewhat better experience (with gas station), somewhat better parking situation, a little crowded, and customer service is better overall. I don't why Costco won't invest in this obvious profit center to improve capacity and the customer experience. Otherwise, it's a Costco. read more

It feels like this location is overwhelmed by the sheer volume of people, and it ruins the shopping experience. On top of that, the employees seem constantly stressed and unhelpful. Asking for assistance is like pulling teeth; they act like you're inconveniencing them. The checkout lines are a nightmare, and navigating the aisles is like a battle zone with people blocking every corner. It's a shame because Costco is supposed to be a convenient place to shop, but this location is anything but. Management needs to step in and figure out how to make this place less chaotic. This Costco is stressful to shop at. I have yet to find a time where you can go and not struggle to find parking or have to weave in and out of other shoppers. The deals are great once you are inside and find what you are looking for, but it's definitely a stress-inducing experience. The nightmare of parking during construction must be fully understood: in the end, it will still be awful. No added spaces, no better access. The check out lines are always long here. Always. On a Tuesday late morning, it's busy. They finally added self checkout, but there always seems to be a red vest nearby to 'help'. Probably can be more useful running a register ya know. The food selection is just ok. I've been in other costcos around the country and they have more of a regional selection. Then again, what does Maryland have regionally speaking...crabs? Not really my thing. No gas station. seriously. I think it's a MoCo thing. Ditto beer & wine. don't bother looking, you won't find it. There's gotta be a reason why Costco only has two locations in MoCo with its 1M+ population, when small cities ~100k have one. I much prefer the Frederick Costco. Gas station, and the food selection has more variety especially in the frozen and refrigerated sections. Only problem is distance and therefore lack of convenience. In the end I've canceled my auto-renewal. I'll see how often I make it to Frederick in the next several months. If only a few times I can do without Costco altogether. I do save some money but a $60 annual membership and all the hassles give me pause on continuing to patronize this establishment. read more

The optical department is a horror. Nice people, but you must take a number to be seen. I took mine at 5:30pm. I was number 117. They were seeing number 85. An hour later, they've only made their way to number 87! After a few complaints a staff-member moved the ticket counter to 100! Parking is a tremendous problem at this location due to Maryland-level "architectural excellence." A huge portion of spaces are closed for reasons unknown. I would avoid Gaithersburg in favor of Wheaton, notwithstanding the security concerns of Wheaton Plaza. read more

Not going to lie, I came for the pizza! I had a friend raving about their pizza and I can not tell a lie, I LOVE pizza. He wasn't wrong. The pizza was GREAT! Let's back up. We came around lunch time and I was amazed! I mean let's be real, I stay far far away from grocery stores so the MEGA of all grocery stores was definitely off limits lol. There was quite a line for the "deli" (if that's what we wanna call it). I kept asking myself "will it be worth it". The pizza did not disappoint. While I will say, the cheese was much better than the pepperoni, they were both really good and really inexpensive! That was the best part. I spent maybe $6 or $7 for two very large pieces of pizza. It did slightly remind me of Pizza Hut which I'm not complaining about. Again, I adore pizza. After we ate, I perused the store a bit and kept being like ooh ooh I need this I need that! "BEWARE" OF SOLOMON THE ENTRANCE GREETER I have never felt so offended and treated like a thief in my entire life. As a Costco Executive member for over 20 years, today marked the absolute worst experience I have ever had at Costco. Solomon made me feel discriminated against and like a petty thief. I visited the standalone Savvy Cie Jewels section today to purchase jewelry for my wife as a Mother's Day gift. After selecting the items, I received a ticket to take to the cashier to be paid for. I proceeded to pay for the jewelry along with three other items. Cashier said I have to go back to pick up my paid items so I did. I exited the store, and returned to collect my purchased items. As I re-entered, Solomon the greeter hesitantly ask me what am I doing? I explained, I came back to pick up my paid items he unpolitely told me to placed my shopping cart at the entrance which I did. Being very bothered by his attitude, I proceeded to pick up my purchased Savvy Jewelry.After picking up my items I headed towards the exit to retrieve my shopping cart, Solomon questioned my actions again(I felt a little harassed). I patiently reiterated, that I was simply there to collect the jewelry I had already paid for. To support my explanation, I displayed my receipts and the two purple jewelry bags, which are only given to customers who have shown their paid receipts to Savvy representatives. He insisted on seeing my receipt again. I showed him my paid receipts. Despite presenting my receipts and the two purple bags containing my merchandise, Solomon continued to detain me, causing me to be late for an appointment. He insisted on searching my bags multiple times, causing a further delay and more frustration. Even after I requested to leave due to my appointment, he refused, stating he was just doing his job. I felt extremely unjustly treated and discriminated against. Solomon's behavior was unacceptable, especially considering him detaining me for such a long time. I have never experienced such disrespect and disappointment at Costco before. Solomon's lack of customer service skills, rudeness, discriminative and not paying attention to details on my receipts were evident. He urgently needs retraining. I hope management take the necessary actions on Solomon poor service skills so that this awful experience wont happen again to another customer. He just glance and said it's not done. Even thought it was done the dam box was on the top shelf under number 209. I tried to let him know and he just ignored me. That's when my sister took the receipt and went where Señor Edison was standing getting other people tickets even though our order was done 10 mins ago. This man Edison pushed my sister hand and dismissed her and told her your order is "Not ready" that when I decided to take the picture because when he shoved my sister hand away without looking at the ticket. Then my sister told him is "ready look at the ticket number and look at the number 255 under 209". He then glance back and said no it not there. Sister then said sir it's been 45 mins already and she pointed at the box with 255 written on it. He then got the pizza slammed it in the counter and pushed the pizza towards my sister. We grabbed our order and told him "No me tiré la comida en la cara porque ni que usted me la aya pagado amargado" Some of Costco employees must have shares on the company because they believe they are GOD. And can talk to you or treat you like crap. Last time I checked you get paid by the hour & if you are too old and cranky don't work in customer service. My family has been frequenting this Costco location since I was a kid, and I still occasionally accompany my parents here when I happen to be in town. It can get super busy; I've only ever been here as a passenger but the parking lot is basically my nightmare. Even during the day on a weekday, it's very busy and can still be tough to get a parking spot. On weekends it can feel like a circus. The products themselves are well-stocked and generally fresh. If the usual farmers' markets or other grocery stores aren't offering any interesting or quality produce in a given week, this Costco can be relied upon for good quality watermelons in the summer, grape tomatoes, strawberries, etc. They've also stocked a lot of nice (sometimes trendy) snacks in bulk, such as Hippeas, dried mango, mochi ice cream, Pocky, etc. so it's not just basic crackers and/or cereal as it may have been in the past. The most recent time I visited this location, in August 2021, the food stand was open if you wanted to pick up a bite to eat, but the traditional seating area had been removed. read more

I am surprised I haven't been run over by a car or a shopping cart at this Costco. The parking lot is chaotic and the store is just as hectic during peak hours and peak shopping days (i.e. Saturdays and Sundays). I suggest going during the weekday versus the weekend, if possible. If you do decide to go on a shopping trip here, be prepared to maneuver your huge cart around the aggressive shopping cart drivers in store and enjoy picking up really great finds in bulk at a great price. You can find almost everything imaginable at Costco, which includes brand name clothes, books, household items, car supplies, food, pet supplies, furniture, etc. You can't beat the prices here and I'm sure if you're someone who shops in bulk, you will be well prepared for the next pandemic or have your doomsday bunker fully stocked with enough toilet paper, paper towels, and food to get you through. In fact, I took a trip at this location today and found (and purchased) more things that I wanted than needed on my shopping list. One thing I did find but did not purchase was a camping tent that fit 10 people and came with room dividers and a light switch with 3 different light modes. While most of the employees at Costco are courteous in a difficult atmosphere, I can't say the same for at least one employee in the food court. The person was masked, stocky, with gray hair. Completely disrespectful. I don't know why Costco hires some people. I have heard this same comment from others, regarding the food court employees. read more
