I have never had an issue with Cote Electric who serviced our generator for years. I missed the announcement that they had become part of Heritage Home Services. I called Cote wondering why hadn't gotten by annual service contract renewal. They explained the change and told me about the Heritage Advantage Membership plan which provides discounts on repairs and purchases and discounts on maintenance. We signed up and had our first annual maintenance check since the change. Our service tech, Pharaoh, gave us a heads up that he was en-route, explained what he was going to do, how much it would cost and how long he expected it to take. He was very pleasant, completed the work promptly and cleanly. No complaints with the change to Heritage and will continue to use them for service. read more

Had a service agreement with COTE. Went fine the first year. Then, they were purchased by Heritage. Next year, no one calls. No reminder. No one comes out. I call to make an appointment and am told the price increased by over 50% (from $249 in March 2025 to $375 for March 2026). Is there a point to a service agreement if you still have to make an appointment and the price can increase by over 50% in one year? The answer is...nope. No point at all. So, I'm off to find a new service company. Here's some text from their contract (emphasis is mine): "Why should I sign up when I can just call each year for maintenance? If you call each year we will be glad to accommodate you and come and perform the PM for your generator. However, by not signing a contract you risk the possibility of a rate increase every year whereas A PM CUSTOMER IS GUARANTEED THE RATE FOR THE DURATION OF THE PM AGREEMENT (except for continuous maintenance which may be subject to rate increase). Also, PM customers are in our database and WILL NOT NEED TO CALL for PM service. A PM customer will also receive priority service, specifically when winter rolls around and we receive an increase in service calls. A PM customer will be charged a service rate of $105.00 per hr for any repairs needed, a non PM customer is charged $140.00 per hr" Note that they never called. And they immediately raised the rate. Can they do that? Yes, technically, because elsewhere they say this: "Labor will be at a rate of 80% of base rate, which is currently $140/hour and is subject to change without notice." So, yeah...they basically lie about the benefit of a service agreement and their agreement is entirely contradictory. I'd recommend you stay away from these guys. EDIT: They called me and told me that they had called to make an appointment and told me the date they called. I checked my phone (which is the number they told me they called) and my phone has no record of any call from them on that day. My text has no record of any text on that day. They also said that they had to raise their prices but offered me a comp service. I told them no thank you, as I found someone willing to do the service for very close to their old price. Therefore, I stand by my rating and review. read more

UPDATE: I just received a notification from BENUCK & RAINEY, a collection agency that I owed HERITAGE HOME SERVICE (who apparently purchased COTE ELECTRIC LLC.) The interesting part is in addition to never receiving a call from any manager from COTE ELECTRIC, I also never received an invoice. If you plan on doing business with these people BEWARE of their customer service. It doesn't exist. read more

I recently had a large project done By Cote Electric. It included a standby generator, mini split, a complete panel replacement, and a full garage/workshop wiring job. Mark and Rob did most of the wiring while a crew of guys worked on installing new equipment, trenching the buried lines and connecting it all together. They were professional, efficient and friendly, really nice guys. My building inspector even commented on the quality of their work. read more

Used them for a few years for service on our standby generator. This year the service was done while we were on vacation. We got home and the top was not closed completely and not locked. The front panel had not been put back on correctly and the left side was hanging off. I called another service company to check it out. The oil had not been changed by Cote and the charge level of the battery was very low. Don't know what service I got for $249 but it certainly was not worth it. read more

Avoid doing business with these people. I had a service contract with Cote for a whole house generator for a fixed annual price. The basic service includes an oil and filter change and an inspection. That is all they did. My generator is basically new and did not need anything else. Upon completion, I overpaid the service technician by mistake. Cote cashed the check and would not refund the overpayment, even though they were supposed to do the service for a fixed price. Do not do business with them, they are not trustworthy. read more

THEY ARE THE WORST. I was told my generator needed a part. Cote called when it came in and set a specific morning to install it. They didn't show or call. When I called them that afternoon, they couldn't even explain the status. I told them I would have someone else do the work--I then got an auto-text saying that they hoped I was happy with the service they just did and to please leave them a review! Overall a great company! Three of my Aunts/Uncles got generators from Cote several years ago and they said great things about them. I got several quotes for a generator and Cote was the most competitive so I decided to go with them in addition to great word of mouth. A few days before install Ron mentioned they no longer had the generator in stock but it should be in any day. The plan was to do the electrical work at my scheduled date and then install when they got the generator in. When they showed up they had the generator with them so I was impressed. I am happy with the work they did and they even came back in the spring to seed the lawn around the generator in case they caused any issues with the soil while installing in February. This is just great customer service and company that cares about their customers. I am looking forward to working with them again in the future. read more

I had to call Cote electric when half the electricity in my house stoped working, I was hoping it was just a fuse but my regular handyman looked at it and could not find the problem. My appt was at 8:45 and at 8:35 I got a call from the service person that he would be 15 mins late. He showed up right at 9 and searched for the problem for 2 hours. My house is over a hundred years old so it was not easy to find what was wrong. The service man (I wish I remembered his name) was very professional and never gave up. Eventually he found the problem and got it working! I was very nervous at what the cost would be, and absolutely floored when the price was only $165! I would definitely call Cote electric again. read more

Beware of the "Service Plan". It's a total scam and all they do is forge a fake ticket saying it was completed and a date. Follow along and you'll see how I know this. Cote Electric has supposedly been servicing our Generac Generator for the past 3 years. It stopped working 4 months ago and we called to get it repaired. 4 months! My wife would call every week to get status updates and they would constantly make stuff up to get her off the phone. You're next on the list, you're 4th on the list, someone will be out today, we have to order a part, etc, etc. Every week she would call and every week she was told something different. She was always very polite and patient and they took advantage of that. I'm not so polite and patient and when November came around and the temperatures dropped I had finally had enough. I called another company and what they discovered was shocking! The generator had dirty contact valves. That's it! 4 months of BS from Cote and that was the only problem! The tech was here for 2 hours. He cleans the valves, tunes it up and charges only $30 more then Cote charged for their service plan. So how do I know Cote was scamming me for 3 years? Well, I work nights and I was home last year when Cote came by. The guy was here 10 minutes. Just enough time to make footsteps in the snow and put on a nice new sticker saying the service was completed. I told the tech from the new company about this and he said it's impossible to do any kind of service in 10 minutes. I should have known better and done something about this last year but the generator still worked back then and I didn't want to be bothered so I told myself everything was fine. They must know what they're doing. They knew what they were doing alright.... Ripping me off! No service was completed last year. Their were no new parts installed. The oil and valves were filthy and that's why it wouldn't work. The poor communication and 4 month wait for service would be reason enough to give Cote Electric a bad review. Throw in this service plan scam they got going and now you have.....in my humble opinion, the worst company I have ever dealt with. Ever! I should report them but my generator works great now so I'm moving on. I wrote this long review as a way to vent my frustrations and I hope new and existing customers read this very long review and find another company to do business with. read more

Just had these guys install a Generac backup generator. All I can say is they were fantastic. They showed up exactly when they said they would and the work was impeccable. I was especially impressed with the way they cleaned up after themselves both in the basement where they installed the breaker box and outside. You would hardly know they had been here. read more

I agree with the complaints about the service plan, we were with them for three years then I let the contract lapse. Called three times to get our generator serviced and was given the runaround. I was going in for surgery and wanted the generator serviced to make sure it was in good order if we lost power, they said they would email me a contract after the third time I called but they never did. Cote said they couldn't service without a contract. In the end we went with another provider, cheaper and they didn't require a contract. read more

I had these guys out to look at my generator, which while running fine, was not charging the battery. An "electrician" came out and poked around my generator, and poked around my junction box, then said that he'd need to have a new wire whip made at a cost of a couple of hundred dollars. I questioned him about using the existing one and he responded "yeah, I guess we can still use that one." The whole visit, which lasted about 40 minutes felt shoddy. In fact, the "electrician" removed a ground wire.........just yanked it out of the panel, while he was there. I later found out that was a necessary ground wire. I got a call back from the shop a couple of hours later with an extortionate quote (nearly $600, but they said it could go up dramatically from there). I told them that I would hold off on having the work done. Two months later, I receive a bill. Keep in mind, they have done zero work. No diagnostic equipment was used to check anything. Any work in preparation for the quote was visual only. I was at no time informed that giving a price for the job would be a billed service. Receiving a bill was a complete surprise to me. I called the shop to question the invoice and was told that when calling them, I would be billed for their time from the time they leave the shop until they return. I was billed for 1 1/2 hours when he was at my house for less than 40 minutes. I guess the stop for lunch on the way back was on me. I don't know if that is standard, but if it is, I need to get that deal at my job. These guys are looking to take your money, and as much of it as possible. Look elsewhere, there are plenty of honest electricians out there. By the way, I did the job myself, it took maybe 20 minutes for me, a novice, and cost me $5.85 in supplies. It would have taken less time if I didn't have to replace the ground wire that was pulled out during Cote's "troubleshooting". Generator runs like a champ now. AVOID THESE GUYS!!! read more

I was searching all over for a portable generator and none of the big box (and smaller box for that matter) had none available due to the recent storms here in new England and elsewhere in the country. I ordered one from Lowes and two days after the expected delivery date I received a call from them saying that I wouldn't be getting my generator for another month and a half!!! Needless to say I canceled my order with them and started my search. My wife was calling around and contacted Cote Electric and they said they had a few generators in stock. I went down the next day and they were very friendly and helpful. I purchased everything I needed and was very satisfied with my experience there. Ron even gave me a free cable! Our standby generator stopped working during the Thanksgiving 2014 storm. It both had an "under voltage" alarm and oil leak. After trying to (like many people) figure it out ourselves and (like many people) getting no where, I searched online and found Cote Electric to be highly recommended. When I called them for service, Chris came out that very same afternoon, explained the problems to me, fixed both the cause of the alarm and the leak, then test-ran the generator to make sure it worked. He even showed me the parts of the generator that caused the annoying but simple-fix problems. He said all the repairs should be covered by the warranty so we needn't worry. Then he wiped the oil splatters from inside the generator, even cleared the snow from its sides, before tactfully going. Extremely professional, efficient and reliable. Highly recommend. read more

Ron is the absolute worst. I called and spoke with him on Monday asking him to give us a quote- he made an appointment with me to come the following day at 5:30. My husband and I left work early to be there. Ron never showed up and never called to let us know he wasn't coming. I called and left a message that night asking someone to call me back. Nobody bothered to so I called again today. I was told by a receptionist that she had spoken with Ron and he "apologizes but he just got caught up with something else and couldn't make it". I stated that he could have at the very least called to tell us. She then went on to tell me that he wouldn't be able to come and give us an estimate for at least a couple weeks- so, not only did he blow us off, not care about our time or have the decency to call and let us know he wasn't coming; he also went from wanting to come the next day to obviously not caring about our business and not making it out for a few weeks. If he didn't want to take the job that's fine- be up front and tell us that from the beginning. Don't waste our time and energy by making appointments and not showing up. We are obviously going to go with a different company (which it seems like he clearly didn't want our work anyway). read more
