Cote's is known for its baked beans and they're GREAT. The market also has brown bread to go with the beans and many other cakes, salads (potato, etc) and lots of good cold cuts. It's sort of a convenience store, too, selling toiletries and such. It's a market. There's no place to sit down. Get the baked beans - they're delicious. read more

One of Lowell's true treasures, if you're a fan of baked beans, these set the standard that all others are measured by and the beans pair great with the delicious pork pies. The flavors in Cote's beans remind me of Lowell's vibrant mill heritage and they make me reminisce warm memories of times as a child I spent in Lowell with my family and friends. My dad has been gone for a time now; he grew up in Lowell on Mammoth Road, became a productive part of the community and ran a very successful business in the area. He shared his heritage of growing up during the times when the mills were the bloodline of the community. Sitting here enjoying the beans brings me back to the age when I was in grade school and my father would take me to Rochette's Diner, where they served Cote's Beans and it was weird as a kid that I loved the beans even more than the great french-fries they served. Or eating at one of the many dinners that served their beans after a night at the Golden Gloves when I was in my teens. Before I wrote this review I spent a few minutes looking up the history of Cote's, I can remember it as far back as I can remember; so I wasn't surprised to find out Cote's was started back in 1902 and that for 105 years four generations this hardworking family has been serving delicious food. My wife's family has been going here for years and since we've been together we have now been going here for some years to. The outside and inside might not be anything to look at but the chicken pies are awesome!...... They also have these chicken puff things which are cheap and portioned for a one person meal, so their great to bring to work. I've tried a few other things and al the homemade stuff is so great you wont regret stoping by. Remember your not eating at a restaurant it's basically a little deli/market, so who care what it looks like as long as the food is great and fresh IMHO. read more

One if not THE best local grocer around. My memere and pepere used to sto in here after Sunday Mass for white beans and warm fresh bread along with delicious pork pies. Growing up, Coty's was THE place to get French Canadian food and that hasn't changed 40 years later. Pea soup, baked beans, homemade pastries...they have it all and so much more as well. A favorite store with amazing people and an old world charm. read more

Cotes Market makes Lowell's Famous baked beans for all the local eateries. If you are looking for Campbell's baked beans, buy a can. These are not them. If you ARE looking for a savory stewed bean dish, try these! Ask for a piece of the fatback too. It's like butter and so tasty! I once went here and asked for 4 porterhouse steaks. The guy behind the counter brought out a BEAUTIFUL whole porterhouse and asked how thick I wanted them. The meat was excellent! This is a hidden gem and I highly recommend it! read more

We stopped at Cote's Market today to pick up some of their beans and a Pork Pie. We used to live in Dracut and my wife used to work at U Mass Lowell, so we used to go their market more often. We live a little further away now, so it's been a while. I got a pint of beans, great stuff, and a medium Pork pie. To those who haven't tried "Lowell's famous beans" they are sold at Cote's market on Saturdays, where they are made, and at other small markets in the area. I had also seen them at local Market Basket stores, I'm not sure they are still featured there, as I don't live in this area any more. The beans are in a light sauce, cooked in pieces of salt pork with onions and ketchup with a dash of mustard. My neighbor in Dracut was French Canadian (heritage) and told me the recipe, but I may have forgotten a few things! They are nothing like "Boston Baked Beans" which are heavy on molasses. There is no molasses in these beans. The pork pie was superb! It was lean, and didn't ooze juices when sliced, but it wasn't dry. Thwaits in Methuen is closer to us these days, but their pork pie is good, but much heavier on the grease. I also noticed that Cote's food is not too heavy on the salt. read more

Great signs outside advertising their wares such as "Itilian Wedding Soup". The big store sign is also quite old and nostalgic. Inside, not so great. They offer prepared deli foods if that's your thing and the usual sundries. I think I bought a soda and that's the last time I've been. Also it smelled weird inside. read more

Walking into Cote's is like stepping back in time. From the friendly service to the homemade food, everything is top notch. Cote's Market is a wonderful family run business. They really take pride in what they do. Everyone is so friendly and nice. I always look forward to going there. They really go out of their way to accommodate you.Everything is homemade from scratch and you can taste it! They're meatballs and beans are amazing. Not to mention the enormous whoopie pies! Okay, so I was at the Mercier Center for a Horizons for Homeless Children volunteer's orientation. I needed a quick bite to eat during lunch and there wasn't too much to choose from in this area of town. Someone suggested Cote's and their famous beans. I ordered a blt, which was scrumptious, and a small 8oz cup of beans. To me, the beans were greasy and lacked a certain flavor I was looking for. The locals would cry, "sacrilege!," but I had 2 bites and threw it out. Honestly, I wouldn't order the beans again, but the sandwich, the people, and definitely the price, was good. I paid $5 for the sandwich and beans. Even though I didn't like their specialty, pork and beans, the regulars LOVE THEM! I actually had a lot of fun talking to all of the men standing in line just for the beans. I was pretty shocked at how many people came into this little convinient store / sandwich shop. They called Cote's a hidden gem. I also have to add, that the girl serving the beans behind the counter, Stephanie, was very entertaining to watch and listen to while she heckled with the regulars. Okay, so I only gave it three stars because I, personally, didn't enjoy their specialty, and because their dial up credit card reader was a bit of a problem and held up the busy line. It was also a slightly shady part of town, so I probably wouldn't go back unless I had to be in the area. It seems to be famous to the locals, they love it, so if you're thinking about trying it out, I wouldn't make a special trip; but if you're in the area, try the beans, and know that their food is clean, sandwiches are yummy and well made, and it's pretty cheap. I am a UMass Lowell grad student and came here because it was close to campus. I had heard about the famous baked beans, and I personally loved them (the darker ones with brown sugar and molasses). Not greasy and very tasty, esp. for 2.38 for a pint. :) read more
