How I wish Mom had given me instructions. Did she want to he laid to rest in Pittsburgh where she…read morespent nearly all her life? She never grooved on Central Ohio. A burial out of town was fairly complicated even without a funeral service, expensive too. Did she want me to regularly visit her, bring her flowers and balloons and gossip with her? Or did she want to go back to her and mine beloved Pittsburgh? But like so many, she was convinced she would live forever and avoided the conversation. Hubby and I chose Glen Rest. Our other option, Forest Lawn, by 270 and Broad St was noisy, hard to get into (even dangerous) and they kept pushing to get us to buy multiple plots. Forest Lawn's hard sale was a turnoff. I crossed them off the list. Glen Rest understood the sadness of selecting a gravesite and took us to see several graves when I described what I wanted. I wanted a pretty one, near the trees where Mom could watch the birds. It is a beautifully manicured cemetery. I could buy a marker from them or go elsewhere. I am still torn. I wish she was home in Pittsburgh but I am glad that I can visit her here as often as I like. I notice that there are areas for babies. And areas for those who are cremated. Glen Rest made a sad decision tolerable.

This company consistently has issues with installing headstones. I've had several family members…read moreburied at this location, and it always takes months for them to install markers. They often say it will take a couple of weeks or promise to have the maker in place by important anniversary dates, but they continue to fall short. The only reason I continue to use Glen Rest is so my family can be buried together.

These people are predators. Now e-mails are arriving trying to sell me services. EVERY correspondence claims I have shown interest. I have yet to receive a call from a Schoedinger family member as I was told I would the last time I complained, which doesn't surprise me since previous complaints haven't stopped the harassment. I keep demanding to see written proof that I requested information. It is a shame that they gave my information to some company when all I did was have my mother's funeral there a few months ago. Let the survivors RIP.

I found out 3 days later my son passed away i believe if i had not found out thru a friend that Schoedenger and Mr Clapham would had deceived me and continued on with his cremation without me (His Mother) even knowing. They together put an obituary in the Dispatch full of falsehoods when i asked Matt to change it or remove it he called my ex and they together decided to keep it up .i payed for a whole cremation of my son and was given no rights or respect from Schoedenger or Scott Clapham. This was my son i raised alone as mr. Clapham moved away and left his son years ago when George was 3 . So i write this review heart broken and so much hurt as i feel no mother should be treated the way i was by Matt picklestein of Schoedenger Funeral home and mr Scott E Clapham of Georgetown Kentucky. I am a respected person of the community and own a business in Dublin Ohio. Sincerely Georges Mother.

Choose another service provider. Recently ask Spence to assist with my father's funeral…read morearrangements. Went in on a Saturday around 10 am. Doctors had indicated my father would pass that day. Family had come from out of town to spend final days with him but had to leave on Tuesday so we wanted the funeral on Monday. Spence director told us it would be "tight" but did not say they could not do it. Told us to inform hospital to transfer my father to their care upon his death. He passed Saturday evening and they took him to the home. 1 star is that Spence did not charge for the pick up - read on. Due to family and religious reasons we did not want a viewing, we dressed our father for burial, and we had a church service where we did everything under the direction of our Bishop. We received two calls from Spence on Sunday morning asking us to come in to sign contract. Estimated price was greater than $6000. We arrived at noon and they informed us they had booked two other services Monday and would not be able to assist us until Tuesday. There policy was not to start anything until actual death occurred. Between noon and Sat evening they had booked another Monday service. We had no issue with the policy but asked why they had not called immediately to inform us giving us more time to find another service provider. We asked for a referal as we were now less than a day away. "We do not give referrals" was the response. They wanted us to change the funeral date. In retrospect Spence did us a favor because we went with Day-Manofsky Funeral Service who charged us $2378 (over $3000 savings from Spence). Rick Day also put it together in less than 24 hours so our family could all attend the funeral and burial of our father. (I do give referals.) Bottom line - choose an alternative to Spence.

I am beyond upset with what we experienced today visiting family and friends at this cemetery…read more Obviously they were using Memorial Day weekend as a way to try to lure future customers in. They had a table set up out front that people could visit and that should've been enough but that isn't why people are there. They are there to grieve and honor, especially this weekend. As we're standing there at the grave of a loved one, one of their staff mows over all of the graves to approach us. In my mind I'm thinking, "don't do it. I know they don't have the audacity." Nope...they're doing it. They stop and ask if we are thinking of being buried close to our loved ones there. I told them this was not the time or place for a sales pitch and off they drove over about 8 rows of graves to get back to the road. ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME!?!?! We *were* considering being there but this gross display of playing on the grief of people when you know you're going to have the highest turnout was completely inappropriate. It turned our family off to the idea of being at a place where they might try to bother other grieving family in the future when we're gone. I don't care if corporate encouraged them to do it or if they thought they'd take advantage of the extra traffic but it was offensive.
