The prime rib ($44) was surprisingly large for 8oz covered in a well-seasoned crust that was fairly salty, so much so that I wish the restaurant left their gravy (not au jus as the menu describes) on the side. At least there was plenty of horseradish to counteract the saltiness. The buttery mashed potatoes seem to have chunks of the spuds added into the mash giving the side a nice contrast. On the other hand, the asparagus became mush as it's served under the meat, and the Yorkshire pudding was airy but dry. I guess you can't win them all. The Old Station House doesn't take reservations, but fair-weather months offers additional seating along their wrap around porch along with their rustic dining room. Still, I'd recommend visiting early (or much later) to avoid disappointment, especially if you're in the mood for prime rib that's subject to availability.

I had my initial hesitations thinking it might be some basic pub food. Who knew this restaurant out in Gravenhurst is better than many Toronto restaurants in the city. One of my fav meals in a while. The Oar recently undergone a new concept change to Lamorna. While they still kept the Oar as their name given the familiarity and reputation of the previous restaurant concept, the menu and indoor decor has completely changed with a new chef in the last couple months. The menu is farm to table and it rotates weekly, and I can really taste the difference, which explains the more premium but reasonable price. Note a burger will always be on the menu and we really like their dry age burger, rich and the accompanying (what looks like hand/in-house cut) fries are so delicious, I wouldn't mind ordering more on the side. We also dined at their outdoor patio so our pups could dine with us. They so kindly brought over a water bowl for the dogs too! Towards the end of the meal, chef Ben came out personally to greet us and we can feel the passion and care he puts into his food. We asked about how he came to this restaurant and his inspo for his food and he told us it's from his travels. eg. why the schnitzel is thicker because he enjoys the thick katsu he had from Japan. He told us he recently sold two of his restaurants and decided to head up this restaurant after his travels. The chef actually goes around and sources ingredients directly from the farms and locally. We also appreciated the fresh pasta and thick cut schnitzel. We also absolutely love the eggplant and the croquettes too. Actually everything we had was a highlight and that's rare for me to find all the dishes impressive at a restaurant. Highly recommend order their bread service so you can use the bread to clean up the sauces from the remaining plates, as it's not included by default. I also love the charm of the plates and cutlery. They open a box of different knives you can pick a knife to use all vintage/second-hand and gave the feel that it's from grandma's home. Highly recommend this spot! The attention to detail, quality and personal service makes this spot special.

My main course was a homemade cappelletti pasta with fresh peas sautéed in a delicate sauce.. My companion ate from the menu with the Arctic Char which was slightly on the dry side, likely finished off in the oven, but fine by Gastro Pub standards. The wine selection was uninspiring and low range but relative to the overall dining environment so I went with a pleasant locally brewed beer and my companion an indifferent Ontario Chardonnay. Service was excellent, attentive and friendly. Outside dining was available but likely for more casual diners. Dining inside, for me being the preferred option, but on this occasion did tend to be on the the noisy side but that was down to the patrons. Nothing pretentious here, no doubt credit to the chef and staff . Definitely worth a visit and reservations although likely not 100% essential daytime are recommended for evenings . It's nice to know the on the day before or day of, they will call your room to reconfirm your reservation at the restaurant. Upon arrival, the process is simple. You tell them your room number and reserved time, and they will lead you to your seat. The menu option isn't that huge, which can be good for some people if they have a hard choice deciding what to get. They also have a kids menu which is pretty good,$13 and they can get a side, main, drink and dessert. There are also vegetarian/vegan options as well. Overall, the food tasted nice, and also nicely presented as well although quiet pricey. My favorite dish of the night surprisingly was the fried beets as it was made to be lightly crispy. We had an issue with the tiramisu as the bottom of it was pretty hard which is an indication that it wasn't fresh. We were able to get it refunded, but it was definitely a turn off. We were alittle uncomfortable as a stroke of luck, we ended up with the same server we complained about during our first visit to the resort. Every other server and staff was wearing a mask, but ours was just wearing a face shield which wasn't too reassuring considering he was very tall, so his spit can still come down. We will probably not be returning to this restaurant, and will probably stick to cooking in our rooms should we ever book the resort.

Only 2, not the accepted minimum 3, slices of bacon. The toast is so cold the butter won't melt. The worst breakfast I've had in recent memory, and I think that I probably lost weight eating it.
