After a long day driving across TX, the last thing we wanted to do when we stopped in Clovis for the night was to order takeout. We YELPed restaurants, and one of our other favorites in town was closed, so we took a chance on the Cotton Patch Cafe. They were open for dine-in, and the whole experience was absolutely wonderful. Service was excellent. Our server, Hope, did a great job meeting all our needs -- including a large print menu (during COVID, when everything has to be wiped down again...), and she was as accommodating and pleasant as can be. The food was off the page. We both ordered burgers, one Nachadoches, and one traditional with cheese. We got sides of fries and onion rings. Normally, we don't eat the buns, but these were magnificent, not your run-of-the-mill hamburger buns! The burgers were juicy and tender, and the toppings as fresh and tasty as could be. The onion rings were HUGE, and perfectly breaded and fried, and there was a slight sweetness to them that was delightful. The french fries were nicely cut, but could have used a bit more time in the fryer to get just a little crispier. Not everything can be perfect, right? After a very long day of driving and working on a hot roof, I didn't wanna go back out but I went to the restaurant there was like nobody there and I ordered takeout. Waited 30 minutes got back to hotel and was missing the homemade ranch dressing and the butter cake dessert that I ordered and paid for. My order gets messed up at every one of these locations - it happened recently in round rock Texas in Austin and on the first time when they messed up the order I had tipped . when I went for the makeup order I didn't tip. Tonight here in Clovis New Mexico I also didn't tip. It doesn't seem to make any difference, the kids just don't care! The food sure is good but I'm waiting for Mike the manager to deliver the missing items because I didn't want to go back out and I'm so upset I'm going to start always auditing this place because I noticed they twist the bag shut every time..."ugh, don't close it up; let's go through everything on the receipt first?" it gets better so the phone number I called on the receipt is actually for a location in Dallas Texas? We've eaten here hundreds of times. When my mom was alive we would bring here weekly for the catfish which she loved. But the last couple of times have been very disappointing. Twice we've ordered chips with queso and twice it never made it to the table and both times when I cancelled the appetizer the server got upset. But isn't an appetizer before your meal not after the meal is served. So today we debated going back but thought we'd give it the benefit of the doubt. We were seated and wait for some time before we were approached by a server the restaurant was busy so no big deal. Got our drink order and again ordered the chips and queso appetizer. I wasn't real hungry so I ordered the Texas wings. Waited and waited for appetizers but again no show. Then the server brings out our food. I advised her to cancel the appetizer. The chicken looked good. I bit into a small drummy it tasted weird then I looked and it was bloody I checked three other of the wings and all were raw inside. So I decided to just eat my fries and not make a scene but my wife informed the server who saw the raw chicken and said she would go get her manager. We waited and waited and no manager came to our table. The server returned to the table while I was in the bathroom and informed my wife she removed the wings from our ticket. My wife asked where is the manager and the server said do you want me to get him. My wife told the server you were going to get him earlier what happened. At that point with frustration building we just got our ticket and paid minus the wings. (Of course I'm not paying for food I couldn't consume because it was under cooked) The girl at the counter was very apologetic and said she'll inform the manager. I told my frustration that the manager doesn't have the common courtesy to come out and speak to us. I asked the his name and was advised Devonte. I will no longer dine at this restaurant and will advise family, friends and anyone who will listen about the poor service at this Cotton Patch. Sad I've been told not to eat there but I liked the atmosphere and usually the food and service is good. Took over 15 minutes to get out drink order. It was just milk for the kids Dr Pepper for my wife and I sweet tea for me. We actually got our appetizers before we got our drink. We had to ask for our entrees and when they finally came out all of them were cold to the touch. Another family that came in about 20 minutes after us got their food at the same time (they had 7 in their party). The quality has been significantly decreasing each time we come. First time here and it sure did not disappoint! Had excellent service from Bree, she was so sweet and attentive the whole time. Cute and cozy ambiance and the food was oh so delicioso! 10/10 would recommend the chipotle maple chicken, it was incredibly juicy and everything was well seasoned from the rice, to the mashed potato, down to the broccoli. Big fan of patty melt sandwiches and the mushroom patty melt was so cheesy and umami. Only regret is not trying a dessert cause their selection sounds amazing (like dr pepper chocolate cake, are you kidding??). A good place for large groups with picky eaters with plenty of seating and something on the menus everyone will find ok, but wouldn't recommend as a go to for small parties with more options available. I have business in Clovis and I haven't been here in a few years. I was surprised to see this Cafe. So my family and made it there for lunch. We were there at peak lunch time which does explain the lengthy wait time for food after ordering. The burgers my husband and son had were very good! I had the fish and chips. Visited here with a co-worker on Thursday, July 21, 2022. This restaurant reminded me of a Southern version of Chilis. This chain is based out of Texas. We didn't have a long wait to sit down and we got a nice booth by a window. We both ordered off the Weekday Specials menu, valid Monday through Friday, from 11 am - 4 pm. We got the chicken fried chicken ($7) and added an additional side for $3 more. To drink, iced tea, freshly made ($3.29). For my two sides I had the Caesar salad and broccoli rice casserole. The chicken fried chicken was billed as, "Lunch size, crisp, juicy, fried boneless chicken breast smothered in scratch made cream gravy or jalapeno gravy." I ordered this without gravy, but unfortunately the waitress brought it out with gravy. Also, I think the waitress must have been new or having a bad day because she kept forgetting to bring us things we needed, like silverware and lemon. The broccoli and rice casserole tasted flavorful and so did the chicken fried chicken, though I would have loved it more with no gravy! The freshly made iced tea tasted excellent. I asked for tea to go, and unfortunately the waitress brought me sweet tea. I detest sweet tea and the drink stayed on the table. Decent food, spectacular tea, just wish the service had been better. I ordered lunch for my family on October 22. I ordered the chicken quesadilla. Another family member ordered the Chicken Fried Chicken w/ mashed potatoes and gravy. Other family members had different items. The first bite of my quesadilla had a hair in it. As my disgust and ocd had me throwing up, I heard someone start cursing in a different room. Turned out there was what looked like beard hair in the potatoes. The Fried Pickles were perfectly crisp and not soggy. They paired well with the Avocado Ranch that comes with them. The Tilapia and Shrimp in the Cajun Duo were cooked to perfection and the Garlic Mashed Potatoes had just the right amount of spice. The waitress was very polite and didn't even have to write down our order to get it perfect the first time. She only came to our table twice, which was nice and not overwhelming. The lighting was perfect, but the tables were a little too close for comfort. You end up sitting back to back to people in other booths and it feels like you have to whisper to keep from bothering them. Also, the bathroom stall in the men's bathroom is a little too open for comfort. This is normally my go-to eatery when I want to pick up a good hot meal or snack. Unfortunately on my visit today I had a double order of shrooms a side dish that I actually crave from time to time. These rooms with fried golden and were presented in a very inviting way it was not until I popped one of my mouth did I notice that the flavoring was off entirely too much salt so I took another and got the same results. Never in all of my visits have I had this happen unfortunately today when I'm in a rush and starving this is what I received. I found this to be much unfortunate since my schedule is tight and I was not able to return it back to the eatery. I guess better luck next time because eateries can get it wrong every now and then. Our party of four arrived shortly after 6:00 and we were greeted by a nice hostess and sat pretty quickly. There were plenty of tables/booths and they were well staffed for the evening. We were greeted by our server, she immediately took our drink and appetizer order. We mentioned how busy they used to be and expressed our surprise that they were slow for the night. When she said they've not been as busy for the past two years, that should've been the first indicator. We asked for more bread since the first round consisted of two rolls. Our fried mushrooms came out about 5-10 minutes before our food and it was clearly obvious the oil needed to be changed. When our food arrived, I received an extra side of mac&cheese, it was flavorless. We ordered two chicken fried steaks, fried fish, and a burger. The oil needed to be changed because the aftertaste from the first bite was unpleasant and left an acidic taste in our mouth. My son said the bacon burger was good. My hubby ate his food because he was starving and will not waste or insult others. My youngest son and I tried to eat the food, maybe three bites and just couldn't do it. When the server asked for to go boxes and when we declined it seemed like she mentioned something to the manager. Shortly thereafter a manager walked by our table and asked if everything was ok and quickly walked away despite my hesitant yes and facial expression. My hubby and I discussed that maybe it was a one off or we had higher standards because of the quality of food from where we come from. We are new to the area and decided to give it a shot tonight for dinner. We were incredibly let down. We arrived before 6:00 pm. There was one other table seated and had already gotten their food. I ordered the new ranch hand, husband ordered the beef tips, and my daughter got the chicken Alfredo. The table of six mention before, got all of their food before we received ours. Ticket time was 40 minutes. Our ticket was rang in at 6:00 pm. We received part of the order at 6:37 and the rest at 6:40. It was absolutely disgusting. The new ranch hand was probably done 20 minutes prior to serving. The gravy and cheese were congealed. I still wanted to try it so I took a bite. It was cold in the middle. I sat it to the side. My husband's beef tips weren't any better. Cold and flavorless. My daughter (who is 3) loves all pasta. She wouldn't touch hers either. The chicken was chopped up in the Alfredo, not in strips as pictured online. When the server saw I wasn't eating my food, she asked me if there something else that could be made instead. I said no thank you, it wasn't good. Instead of removing the meal that I didn't eat (or the meals that my family didn't eat), we were given a coupon for a free appetizer or dessert with purchase on entree. My friend recommended Cotton Patch Café after trying it out with another friend, so we decided to stop by for dinner on a Friday night. The restaurant was pretty packed, which led us to hopeful that we would finally have some good southern comfort food. Restaurant is pretty cozy and comfortable with wooden booths, large tables, and pretty bright lighting. Menu has a good variety - I would say it's reminiscent of Southern comfort food (reminded me of Marie Callender's). They have soups, salads, traditional favorites, fried chicken, grilled entrees, steaks, sandwiches, burgers, and desserts. They have complimentary bread rolls which are super soft and fluffy. These definitely helped fill us a bit before our entrees came along. Came with melted butter - really wanted to ask for more rolls, but I knew we wouldn't be able to finish all our food if we got seconds on bread. I ended up ordering the chicken fried steak, which came with 2 traditional sides for $10.99. The dish itself was not too bad. I think I ended up wishing I had ordered the fried chicken instead of the steak, just because the meat was a little dry and not as flavorful as I would have liked. The flavors from the cream gravy helped though. For my two sides, I went with the baked potato and kernel corn. Wasn't able to finish the food, but I went home full. One friend ordered the chicken fried tenders plate - $8.99; she said it was just okay. The chicken tenders were pretty dry. The sauces definitely helped the chicken retain flavor. I actually liked the tenders more than my steak. My other friend ordered the sirloin steak I believe. She said it was not too bad - for the price, the size looked decent. The flavor was pretty good, but we all agreed that we'd had better elsewhere. tl;dr - Overall, a decent place to stop by for a meal. The menu kind of looked like a standard chain restaurant menu, but my wife is on a keto diet, and I was thinking that if she had to have one more salad she might lose it. They had a pretty large selection of grilled chicken & fish, plus a bacon wrapped tenderloin. They only had 3.5 stars with over 100 reviews, so I wasn't sure how good it would be. The food quality was perfect, she had the tenderloin and I got the Chicken Fried Chicken. The salads were some of the best that we've had. Both entrees were perfect. Came in knowing the food was good, expecting the dismal and old decor that I've known before. To my surprise, they have totally changed the decor to a light airy industrial style. The food is only more amazing. My husband had the grilled tilapia and it was very good. (I tasted it!) I had a cup of chicken and dumpling soup and the only thing wrong with it is that I could have eaten another cup at least! But I had to leave room for the sirloin which was done to perfection, tender a flavorable. The grilled shrimp was delicious. My steak was good, cooked as requested but her chicken tortilla soup came out cold and very bland. She had them heat it up, but it was still bland. She's saving it for later so she can spice it up at home. We also had the peach cobbler for dessert, which is supposed to come with a scoop of ice cream, but she said they were out of ice cream.... When you order takeout, you're outsourcing the preparation of a meal, entrusting strangers to feed your family so you don't have to. If you're in a rush, go elsewhere. Good food is with waiting for. The team at this restaurant works hard. The food is consistently good. People deserve a break. Don't be grumpy when you let others provide a meal for you on your time. Don't be a jerk.
