Ordered a chicken salad take out. The chicken was tasty and the sandwich was fresh. It was large enough to split as there is a generous amount of chicken salad in the wrap. The staff was friendly and even the patrons are, one moved to the door to hold it open for me! Under new management, and killing it. --- I was a little worried when I heard someone else bought the place / under new management, but I have to say, I think they're even better. It's comical to read my original review. This place has been a staple for me and it is a true gem in this community and town. I am so grateful it exists, and here's why. The subs are still excellent. Note: as of this writing they do not so hot subs on the weekend, only cold. I wish they did amd hope they will soon. New management has improved the floor plan and the meat storage. The counter is all now one long counter and more people can fit inside now. The meats are AMAZING. We cannot stop drooling over this place. Get a bag of marinated steak tips- they are better than a restaurant. Just grill them up. Tender, juicy, flavorful. So good. Get a bag of marinated chicken wings - just bake 'em. So large, so juicy and the flavor is unbeatable. Also better than a restaurant. I almost don't want you to know how good this place is because I want it all for myself! But please, please please please go here and take some meat home and revel in how awesome your life is that you get to eat such high quality and flavorful meats!!!!!! read more

I do not often give 4 stars. The place has to be phenomenal. Enough said! Only complaint is that their chicken salad (the mixed kind with mayo, not lettuce salad), is so unbelievably good that no matter how much they make, they run out. Steak & Cheese subs are great, chicken, bacon & ranch sub is excellent (not sure if that's even on the menu). They have fresh soup year round (think year round). I also get my chicken breast, Hamburg, steaks etc here on occasion. I also sometimes call ahead to pre-order cole cuts by the pound. I used to rave about the country Butcher. Today however I got a Brisket sub & it was completely dried out & a bit over salty too. $9.00 down the drain. UPDATE: 4/10/21 Roast beef sub did NOT taste like boar's Head quality (like it used to!) nor did it have the same texture at all.. I'm completely disappointed I think I'm done. read more

Unassuming building but spectacular contents. Freshly sliced deli meats that are of the highest quality. We stopped by to aid in our staycation efforts to enjoy a charcuterie board and were able to get a number of meats. Excited to go back to this gem in town! read more

We stopped here on a Saturday and got sandwiches to go. What a great surprise! They were very good. We had the ham and cheese, Italian, turkey and cheese, and BLT. All good. We took home some sodas as well including the birch beer. Very good! The only issue is that the bread did not seem to match the same quality of the meats, cheeses, and vegetables on our sandwiches. The bread seemed like it was stale or of lower quality. We suspect lower quality. Still, it was a great find! read more

I went in one day looking for steak tips because we had friends coming over but they'd run out. One of the butcher's was happy to go out back and cut some for me. Country Butcher and Deli just opened within the last 3 months or so, and I finally got around to stopping in and checking it out. We were greeted by what seemed to be the owners. They were quite friendly and waited patiently as we browsed the shop. They sell a nice variety of meats and a small selection of fish, both fresh and frozen. In addition, they sell Boar's Head deli meats, which I love. There is a small amount of basic groceries available, as well as drinks and sodas. They also have a small, basic menu of sandwiches (made with Boar's Head), as well as hamburgers, soups, and special sandwiches (today was meatloaf). The deli menu is basic right now, with items such as "Italian" and "Ham and Cheese" and "Roast Beef and Cheese", and you can basically put whatever you want on them. I'm hoping that as time goes on, they play up their menu with "specialty" sandwiches in addition to their current offerings. My roast beef sub was chocked full of meat, and they were generous with the accompaniments. Being Boar's Head, the meat was of course delicious. Prices were reasonable, with a large sub just over $7. I will probably begin shopping here for deli meats, as I much prefer Boar's Head over the grocery store brands. All in all, a nice little shop! read more

Country Butcher is 10 Stars. We're very fortunate to have it in town. Ken and the staff are extremely helpful. We've ordered prepared food for parties and they are great. The Subs are unbeatable. Their normal stock of food, meats, seafood, frozen food and precooked dishes are top notch. The best part is that if Ken doesn't have it he'll get it. I needed fresh Pork Belly once and he had it in a matter of a few days. We smoke full briskets and he always has those. Quality is excellent, he cuts to order. Country Butcher is a hidden gem I strongly recommend it. read more

A nice little gem in Groton. The Deli selection of Boars Head Cold Cuts is great and the selection of Meat's for grilling is even better. The frozen foods offered cover's all of the bases as well. The meats on the Sandwiches are generously sized and the bread is fresh. I have a large appetite and I could barely finish a Large Sub. Parking is easy and the staff are very friendly and helpful. I live 20 minutes away but would gladly go there just for lunch, and hopefully more in the future to support this local business. 6 Stars. read more

This place is a butcher shop, with some produce, seafood, and very few groceries. The place is small, but clean and nice. The beef is really, really good. They make sandwiches that are pretty good, but nothing to write home about. The rolls are fresh, and the meat is pretty good. Standard turkey on a bun with lettuce an tomato kind of thing. Service is really friendly. Well mostly...the guy with the mustache is kinda cranky. He never smiles. read more

I've had plenty of people recommend this butcher shop and it's also 10 minutes from my house so I've given if several tries. However it's been VERY underwhelming. To start the odor is off putting, I know meat smells but its a little too funky. The guy behind the counter (I assume the owner) is not very friendly, likes to tell you what to get instead of choosing what looks best. The meat itself is nothing special, similar quality to Hannaford's -or dare I say Market Basket. I've also heard they make good subs and sandwiches but again, very unwhelming and unwelcoming when trying to place order in person. I would like to support the local business but I appreciate good food to much to go back here. read more

I bought a smoker this year and wanted to try a whole beef brisket. I could not find any brisket locally other than corned beef (it was close to St. Patrick's Day). I checked yelp and found Country Butcher and Deli. The owners were very friendly and I left with a perfectly trimmed whole brisket. We also tried a sample of their own smoked brisket, which was incredible. This is now in my top 2 list for purchasing meat in the area. read more

A rare, friendly, family-owned and run, quality place. In addition to fresh sandwiches, salads, baklava, meats and fish, they have the MOST AMAZING special order prime rib and kielbasa that are fixtures in our house for the Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter holidays. The chicken salad sandwiches/subs and Chef's salads are enormous and delicious. The owner is very well versed in helping one select the right sized cuts and sizes of butchered meats for special meals especially. It is so hard for new businesses to make it in tight economies, give this high quality and thoughtfully-managed place a visit. read more

I've been a loyal customer for almost a year now, purchasing both marinated meats and sandwhiches/meals. -Steakhouse steak tips are excellent. -Recently tried the pork chops, (not usually a pork chop fan) but these were exceptional. -Fresh sandwhiches/entree's all homemade and prepared with care. - If you're within a 30 minute drive, it's worth the ride simply for the Chili. I don't bother ordering chili at restaurants anymore because nothing compares to their "award winning" chili. I think it's family owned and you can tell. It's not your typical sub shop where some kid making $8/hr puts 6 lbs of Mayo on your sub because he doesn't care. This is a store we all wish we lived by! We are a Marine family and move every 2-3 years. We always have a hard time finding a good restaurant. My husband went the other day and picked me up jumbo fresh shrimp. Which I haven't had a lot of that lately. And it was fabulous. Now the sandwich he got was a foot long steak and cheese and I am from the south where food is a passion and a love in our world. I have Never Ever had a better sandwich in my 37 years!!!! We were hosting a cookout and decided to order from the Groton Butcher Shop. We ordered the veggie tray, cheese and fruit tray, potato salad, and sandwich wraps. The sandwiches were excellent, especially the roast beef....lots of meat. Only wished they could have suggested something more for the wraps such as a different type of spread. Great selection of high quality steaks and roasts at very fair prices. The seafood and fish options are excellent and the freshest to be found within MILES. The deli counter makes great sandwiches and the shop stocks some specialty food items plus a bit of produce to round out your dinner options. Bought a center cut pork roast this week and it was really the best I've had in years. Definitely my first stop in town for beef, pork, lamb, seafood -- and deli lunch! Don't be discouraged if the parking spaces on 119 in front of the store are taken. You'll find ample parking around the back of the building and a convenient back entrance. read more
