Full disclosure upfront, I based all my reviews on my expectation going in. The country café is a breakfast and lunch diner in a small town in the Pocono mountains. That said, we have been there twice so far and both times were thoroughly impressed with everything we got. Both times we were ordering breakfast well after the lunch hour. Our choices range from steak and eggs with hash, brown, smothered and peppers and onions, two pancakes, two very interesting omelettes, including an Irish omelette, which is stuffed with corned beef hash. The sausage is freshly sausage, and seemed like it was local. The real shining star, was all the homemade baked goods. We took home two slices of apple pie. The slices were huge, equal to two slices anywhere else you would go. And it was completely fresh and amazing crust and flavor. Usually amazing food is enough, but the service was wonderful. Everyone working there was so friendly and warm. You can tell a lot of love goes into the cooking comb of the baking in the service. We are looking forward to making this our regular go to for any breakfast or lunch. read more

The Burghers are very good. I was particularly happy with the fact that everything is homemade and the French fries are freshly cut up potatoes and not the frozen ones. This is such a cute place, my husband and I decided to get burghers but they also have a very nice breakfast menu. Everything is fresh and they have great prices. Came on a Thursday 12pm. Newly opened and a little busy. Waited to be seated 10 mins. Was asked if counter was OK. That's fine. 15 minutes to take order. 3 eggs over easy, bacon, sausage, home fries, rye toast. After 35 minutes and other customers who came after me were served, I asked about my plate. Another waitress than mine went into kitchen and came right out with plate. Looks decent, but only 2 eggs. First bite, homefries cold on the bottom. Then egg yolks solid, not over easy. Got up, paid for my coffee and left. I did mention to my waitress that there were only 2 eggs. I did not want to wait for the third and as she walked away she slammed the tray she had on the counter. I was a loyal customer before they closed down. I believe they had a fire. For the past 3 months, the place looked like it was ready to open. Every weekend I would pass by to check if they were open yet. 3 weeks ago I met the owner as I did my pass by and I told him I've been passing every week to see when if they opened yet. He told me any day. Finally the past weekend they had their grand opening. So I planned to come on Thursday. Nope. Will not go here again. I can understand the slow service as they are newly opened. I can understand shorting me the egg. (It's not uncommon as my order is not standard, and humans are creatures of habit). But i draw the line of my food being left under the warmer while people who came after i ordered and are served first. Then with all the issues, I refused the meal. I dont see i was wrong. It's a shame.they used to be the best breakfast spot within 3 highway exits of where I live and I didn't mind the trip. Waste of time read more

Unfortunately this place caught fire and is completely destroyed. They plan to reopen as soon as possible, they have removed about half of the building already,so hopefully will be back open soon. Was very disappointed with our visit! We walked inside and had to wait over 5 minutes to be seated. It wasn't very busy. When we were finally seated, we had to wait at least 20 minutes for someone to come over and take just our drink order. We placed our order and while we waited for our food, our server was called to a table across from us where four young men were telling her that their orders were messed up. They were very polite about it, but the server sat there and argued that they had received what they ordered. What happened to the customer always being right? At any rate, we received our order and the food was good, but cold! I will not be visiting again! I just got bad vibes from the place and came away feeling annoyed! read more

Nice selection of breakfast items. If you get the eggs benadict ask for hollandaise sauce on the side( it's smothered in it). Portions are good and $7.95 for a large veggie omlette, home fries and toast is priced Right. Always specials like 2 eggs, bacon - ham or sausage and home fries and toast for $3.95. coffee was a little weak but passable. Waitress was very attentive as was the hostess. Lots of friendly locals. Stop in and enjoy a meal. The lunch dinner specials looked good as well. read more

I am surprised by the bad reviews on here, as I had a wonderful breakfast, and my service was excellent. The restaurant was busy, but my server was attentive and helped me make my decision as to which breakfast special to order. I had the Omelette with Bacon, Cheddar and Tomatoes with home fries. My omelette was great, the home fries were a bit greasy, but had great flavor. I ate the whole portion and was contently full. The price was very affordable. It's a solid breakfast spot in a small town with few options. My fellow guests both ordered French Toast and said it was "very good". The next time I end up in Lake Ariel, I would certainly eat breakfast there again. read more

Went here for dinner tonight - 6 adults came in around 7:30. We're new to the area and wanted to try the place. Appetizers ordered - no extra plates for sharing were offered. My aunt ordered a patty melt with no cheese - it came with cheese. Had to be remade, and was not to her order (cooked well when ordered medium) My son ordered a wrap that comes with bacon and mozzarella. He was served a chicken melt on a roll with swiss cheese. I ordered a Cobb Salad - all that comes out is lettuce with some bacon. If I didn't ask for chicken on the salad all I would have been served would be lettuce with a few bits of bacon for $8 My husbands roast beef was overcooked and dry. Waitress was nice and checked back enough but didn't check the food to be sure it was what we ordered. Unfortunately we won't be coming back as we were not impressed at all. I used to like this place . Ive reviewed it before , and sadly my opinion has changed . I witnessed some gross things happening and couldnt get them out of my head to even try to enjoy the food . First we waited a good 10 minutes for someone to come over to the table , and was never asked for a drink order before taking our food order , annoying as that is , we then witness a bus girl drop unfinished food off of a plate , pick it up bare handed , and get a customer a ,"to go container ",with her same unwashed hands . So gross !!! Then our waitress comes over with food remains on her hands with pen and pad in hand . I dont even know why i stayed . Then i witness the bus girl wipe a dirty table , and wipe the ketchup bottle top with the same rag . Needless to say , ill never be back there again . Friggin gross !!!! read more

On our way from Scranton to the Poconos (we were starving) we decided to stop at this place and check it out. We like to try out different things so we decided to give it a try. Have you ever had a gut feeling and just feel like it was a bad idea? Well let's just say this was one of those moments. The place was quiet and only one table in the whole restaurant but we decided to give it a try anyway. Let's just say that I felt like the food was freezer burned. Nothing was fresh, absolutely nothing. I had a shrimp and scallops pasta. It was dry, the scallops were a weird texture and had absolutely no flavor. The shrimps were stiff and chewy. I added salt and pepper for taste because it lacked plenty of it. It's a shame being that I personally worked in the restaurant industry and this place has so much potential. It's really nice in the inside but there is no music or anything. So it's just awkward and quiet. Not sure who the owner is but fresh food goes a long way. Very disappointed my wife order a bowl of chili and a order of fries. I order one of the special , bbq brisket and fries.The waitress brought out the chili right away we then waited 40 to 45 minutes for the rest of are order. A couple who came in after us received their order before us. About four or five table had come in during that 40 to 45 minutes. Within five minutes after we got are food they all received their food. Are waitress seemed more concerned with filling the ketchup then waiting tables. I called her over to ask for a check for the chili and our drinks but before I could she said let me check on your order. She went into the kitchen and came right out with or order. Stopped in for dinner at 7:30 with my boyfriend and 5 year old daughter. We ordered waters and a soda. Then beer battered haddock , steak sandwich and chicken fingers. My haddock was good but very generic and not great, baked potato same and applesauce. Kids chicken fingers were the same , best thing about these meals were the French fries. Only got 2 chicken fingers though which even for a kids meal isn't much. She left still kind of hungry. Steak sandwich I'm told was not good, he doctored it up with a lot of sauce as he ate. Service was sub par. Very nice but not very timely. We waited to order, waited for drink refills, waited for the check . So although nothing was wrong we were not wowed and may try this place one more time for breakfast but never for other food again. read more

The country cafe is a great classic diner. They're clean and all the employees are friendly. Their cream of mushroom soup was actually one of the best I've ever had! I got a grilled cheese on their homemade ciabatta roll and it was delicious. I'm really excited to try the two homemade cinnamon buns we got to go later tonight. read more

Had dinner there tonight with my family. The one with the sleeping toddler. My wife loved the stuffed cabbage. My mom loved your French onion soup. I loved the Jack Daniels melt and mashed pots. We sat for 10 min for a drink order to be placed then another 15 for an order to be placed. By then other tables are filling up and the waitresses that are working there seem clueless!! Food comes and it's another tables order. The waitress makes a comment saying "your food is somewhere in there." Now three other tables have their food and WE are still Waiting!! Our order comes out and my omelet is wrong!! How do you get an omelet wrong???? It took over 10 min for the waitress to come to our table. By then the waters we asked for never came, the FOOD was wrong and all the waitress said was"oh"... not so sorry, I'll make you another one. The bill comes and get this! If you add peepers and onions to your potatoes they charge an extra 50 cents, but you are not told this when you order. So this is when the JERK of an order makes a comment when I said "you should let us know if you will charge for it." Don't onions and peppers usually go in potatoes!! That's when the JERK says "GET THEM OUT! Isn't he nice! What a great way to have customers come to this establishment. It was YOUR FAULT! Your LACK of how to run a business!! Stay clear and don't go to this restaurant! They are RUDE, and have no understanding that the customer comes FIRST! What a TERRIBLE experience! Slow - very slow service, rude unapologetic waitress (perhaps related to the owners). Our food came out very late, after other patrons who ordered after us. We mentioned it to our waitress and she pretty much said we were liars and that the other patrons were there before us. She tried to butter us up later when it was coming time to pay our bill - probably to salvage her tip. The food was actually good. Too bad our experience was tainted by a nasty person. Tried this place 3 times, between Jan - April 2018. I agree with the review of 9/3/17 that the food was inconsistent. I'll elaborate. Tried it the first time...sat in the main dining room area...it was excellent. My husband & son got prime rib, and a lot of it, a big thick slice. The quantity of food was large and the sides were too. However, a mistake was made on my appetizer (hot spice vs. mild spice on the boneless wings I ordered) I then had to wait 20 minutes for them to fix it and cook another (no, the place wasn't that busy). Went back second time based on the prime rib of the first time. Food quantity was OK (not as large as the first time). We were seated in the small room by itself off to the right side. It was very cold in there, and we had to ask them to turn on the heat (and we like our house cool, so that means it was uncomfortably cold to most people). It was the third time that was upsetting, as follows: My husband ordered prime rib again. This time he got a slice that was only 1/2 the thickness of the serving that he had gotten the first time we ate there. I got a meal "special" of broiled scallops with a "free" glass of wine for $17.00. I literally only got about 8 very small scallops (which were rubbery and tasteless), a small blob of mashed potatoes, and a small clump of broccoli. So I agree with the review of 5/25/18 that said the scallops had absolutely no flavor. I also went away hungry...for me, who eats very little, that's bad. But here's the icing on the cake. The waitress had forgotten to give me my "free" glass of wine with my meal. She mentioned it herself when we finished our meal (I didn't say anything). Here's the good part. She then apologized for forgetting the wine, and she'd take the $3.00 cost for the glass of wine off the cost of my meal. After we left, my husband and I discussed that they marketed the meal as a "special" with a "free" glass of wine...but in reality, they were jacking the price of the meal up by $3.00 for the wine, and telling you it was "free"! Unbelievable. That made us feel taken advantage of and tricked. That sealed the deal - we'll never go back again. We also agreed with the review of 5/25/18 that the atmosphere was awkward due to no music...almost didn't want to talk because other couples who didn't talk to each other were obviously eavesdropping on everything we said, and the tables were very close together. Finally, the gradual decline in our meals with each time we went back also made us feel like they served you a big meal when they saw you were a new customer to get you to come back, but then the quantity (and quality) of food declined with each subsequent visit.
