I had never been here before, but my mom and I were in the area to do some grocery shopping and decided to stop in for lunch. The restaurant was very cozy, and the staff were kind. The wait was longer than we were hoping for, I'd say about 40 minutes, but they were at full capacity (we took the last open table) so that explains a longer wait. The food was amazing and the portion sizes were nice. We both enjoyed our meal. The only bummer was that our waitress never came to check on us once we received our food, so we had to ask another woman for sauce and then went up to the register to ask for a to go box. But, things happen. Overall a good experience and I would eat there again if I'm ever in the area. read more

I would've given this place a 5-star for food, however, none of this matters after the bad customer service we received from this racist server. Loretta on the other hand was great. (The Food and server Loretta gets 5 stars.) The server whose section we are in ignored us the whole time and made sure everyone else in her section was taken care of (there are only 2 tables in her section including ours), but I had to go find the server in another section to get our food and she was serving a lot of tables compared to the other one. We waited for an hour and 20 mins for our food to be served (the food came out cold). Went I tried to pay, that racist server helped everyone in front of me and when it is my turn to pay, she closed the register and rudely said I have to serve food and walked away. Loretta stepped in to help us with our payment and apologized on behalf of that rude server (I was furious to even get her name). We will no longer be taking the family and friends to this establishment or returning because of that experience. I have never experienced such blatant disrespect from someone due to racism. She shouldn't be working in customer service regardless. Sad because the food is excellent here. read more

I really WANTED to give this place a five-a-roni, but it was only okay... I got the Turkey Croissant and the hubs got the Fried Chicken Salad. We also got the Seasoned Curly Fries & Fried Cheese Curds (@ least these two appies were delish). My sammie was packed with super salty turkey and the "swiss cheese" was like the faux cheese you get at Subway. My husband's fried chicken, on his salad was over fried & hard. All of our dressings and sauces were super runny too. It made me sad, because locals suggested up & down that we go here. And, we were crazy hungry too! :'( There was a nice welcome, when we came in, but our server didn't even check on us, to ask how our meal even tasted. If you've read my other reviews.....you'll know how I feel about the customer service aspect is and how E*S*S*E*N*T*I*A*L it is, to the whole of a restaurant/store/company. This too was lacking. Needless to say, stick with the appetizers and pie. At least those aren't bound to disappoint. read more

For value, I give them a 10 out of 5, what you would expect $8 or $9 elsewhere was only $5 here. I got a Reuben and it was 3 layers - Bread then corned beef, bread, sauerkraut and the other bread, with a large side of thousand Island. I also got sides of fried mozzarella sticks and onion rings. We love to go to small local owned restaurants so after a day of antique shopping found this place To start with I went to the lady's room and it says not to flush the paper ! What??? Then no soap or paper towels. Not a good start Hubby got the hot beef sandwich and said it was ok. I got country ribs and got this huge portion. Unfortunately the meat inside was frozen chunks! Server never came back so let her know before we paid. She took part of my dinner off and it still cost us $22 . Won't be going back anytime soon read more

This is the oldest restaurant in town and everything is absolutely great. my cousin happens to like the Rubens as well as the open roast beef sandwich or dinner and mashed potatoes as he has lived in Jamesport 30 years and owns a bed and breakfast here and still loves coming to eat. the coconut cream pie is to die for by a piece and eat it there and then take another piece for the road. Good old fashioned food. Had the open faced tenderloin sandwich and it came with a large piece of breaded pork over soft white bread and topped with a large mound of mashed potatoes and white gravy. So delicious. Ordered a large piece of coconut cream pie for dessert and I was full and happy. Affordable prices and great, friendly service. This is probably the best place in Jamesport to eat. They have daily specials but I usually order the club sandwich. If you order fries with your sandwich, you won't be disappointed. You get plenty! The service is good but I would wait on a table or booth in the front or middle, if the only thing they have available is the back room. Although they still do a great job, sometimes I feel we are forgot about if we are put back there. Order the cobbler or pie if you are not full after your meal. Again, you won't be disappointed. We eat here about once a week. The price, the service, and the food are all worth 5 stars. I cannot pass on the bread and honey butter every time I go, and the grilled chicken salad is the best I've ever had and the most reasonably priced. They started taking credit cards about a year ago which makes it easier to eat there spur of the moment. If you are hungry go for a dinner. They come with bread and honey butter, a salad, a potato of any kind, and an entree. read more

On baked good alone (the dinner rolls and pie), this place would get 5 stars. But the food very much so-so, the service was horrible when we went, and the restroom felt like a boiler room and had a funky smell like a natural gas leak (something was definitely wrong and when we notified our server she said it had been like that all day, and was not concerned about it at all). We waited a few minutes when we first arrived, as a table was seated before us. When we were seated, our server did not acknowledge us, though she was standing 3 feet away behind the counter. We proceeded to sit there for 15 minutes before menus were brought, and this was only after a fellow server gave our gal a heads up to serve us. And so the meal went along in a similar way - I had to take our water glasses up to the counter to get refills and again had to go up to the counter to request our dessert finally be brought, and that was after sitting with our finished lunch plates in front of us for another 15 minutes. The chicken strips were just ok as was my hamburger. The place was not overall busy, no line out the door. I love this place. Super quaint and quiet. The wait staff was very friendly. The ONLY reason I didn't give this place 5 stars was because we asked for country fried steak and she brought us country fried chicken. When I told her about the mix up she said sorry but the chicken fried chicken was AMAZEBALLS!! I AM SERIOUS!!! The meat was juicy and the mashed potatoes were to die for. They brought us bread to go with the meal and the honey butter made me want to lick the container. Always enjoy eating here. Tenderloins are really good. We get the large one and split it. Hot roast beef is another favorite. Yesterday I got a burger for the first time. It was excellent. The fries needed to cook a tad longer to crisp up but in all fairness, the place was packed so they probably hurried a little. Pies are great, especially the coconut cream. The downside? Sometimes you have to wait a bit for a table because both locals and tourists love this place. read more

After exhaustive personal research (sort of) I have to declare the pork tenderloin sandwich at Country Cupboard the best in a 100 mile radius of KC. It is not hammered to paper thinness so that the coating overpowers the tenderloin. Thick, juicy and delicious. It is the one time I am always ready to leave Liberty, MO on an antiquing trip with the Mrs... because there is always the Country Cupboard. Their homemade pies are fantastic as well, but you're going to have to get a piece to go... you'll be too full. The prices are crazy low as well. read more
