This place is where the locals go in Jamesport. Nothing fancy , in fact, seats are well worn but the food is affordable, fast and good. Servers were friendly and they now take credit cards. TIP: save room for dessert as I did not and the pies looked fabulous!

Fantastic food and service! Large portions and priced affordably highly recommended stopping here for food!

I would've given this place a 5-star for food, however, none of this matters after the bad customer service we received from this racist server. Loretta on the other hand was great. (The Food and server Loretta gets 5 stars.) The server whose section we are in ignored us the whole time and made sure everyone else in her section was taken care of (there are only 2 tables in her section including ours), but I had to go find the server in another section to get our food and she was serving a lot of tables compared to the other one. We waited for an hour and 20 mins for our food to be served (the food came out cold). Went I tried to pay, that racist server helped everyone in front of me and when it is my turn to pay, she closed the register and rudely said I have to serve food and walked away. Loretta stepped in to help us with our payment and apologized on behalf of that rude server (I was furious to even get her name). We will no longer be taking the family and friends to this establishment or returning because of that experience. I have never experienced such blatant disrespect from someone due to racism. She shouldn't be working in customer service regardless. Sad because the food is excellent here.

I really WANTED to give this place a five-a-roni, but it was only okay... I got the Turkey Croissant and the hubs got the Fried Chicken Salad. We also got the Seasoned Curly Fries & Fried Cheese Curds (@ least these two appies were delish). My sammie was packed with super salty turkey and the "swiss cheese" was like the faux cheese you get at Subway. My husband's fried chicken, on his salad was over fried & hard. All of our dressings and sauces were super runny too. It made me sad, because locals suggested up & down that we go here. And, we were crazy hungry too! :'( There was a nice welcome, when we came in, but our server didn't even check on us, to ask how our meal even tasted. If you've read my other reviews.....you'll know how I feel about the customer service aspect is and how E*S*S*E*N*T*I*A*L it is, to the whole of a restaurant/store/company. This too was lacking. Needless to say, stick with the appetizers and pie. At least those aren't bound to disappoint.

For value, I give them a 10 out of 5, what you would expect $8 or $9 elsewhere was only $5 here. I got a Reuben and it was 3 layers - Bread then corned beef, bread, sauerkraut and the other bread, with a large side of thousand Island. I also got sides of fried mozzarella sticks and onion rings. My wife got a Patty melt with fries and the platter was huge. Everything had great flavor.

Quaint diner where all the locals eat. Really good down home food at affordable prices. Portions are large. Service is friendly. This is the only place we eat when we visit.

This is the oldest restaurant in town and everything is absolutely great. my cousin happens to like the Rubens as well as the open roast beef sandwich or dinner and mashed potatoes as he has lived in Jamesport 30 years and owns a bed and breakfast here and still loves coming to eat. the coconut cream pie is to die for by a piece and eat it there and then take another piece for the road. Service is always with a smile

(This review is a repost from my personal blog)…read more When you think of the Amish, do you think beer? Neither do we. So when we heard that there was a bar in the Amish town of Jamesport, MO, it was time for a little road trip. As Missouri's largest Amish community, the horse-and-buggy easily outnumbered the automobile as we arrived in town. We found the tavern on a quaint downtown street, and parked in a small gravel lot next door. The first thing we noticed was two hand-painted pub signs with arrows pointing towards the door. The second thing we noticed was a sign we'd never seen on a bar before -- a sign advertising guns for sale inside. As it turns out, the bar's owners Jim and Shirley are members of the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association. They build their own black powder rifles and pistols and sell them at the bar. They also do restoration work on black powder guns and supplies. We entered the Jamesport Tavern at about 2:10 on a Saturday afternoon, becoming perhaps the first tourists in the history of Jamesport to come here specifically and only to have a beer here. Our beer was poured and has happened to me on rare occasion, I was "tricked" by the lightweight clear plastic beer mug and nearly got a faceful of my own brew as I lifted my mug with the force normally required for the glass variety. Inside, the Jamesport Tavern is typical of many downtown bars in small towns. The jars of pickled eggs were a nice touch, as were the mega-oversized bags of chips. Souvenier bottle-opener keychains and beer koozies were available for purchase. There was also an odd assortment of koozies under the bar for use within the bar. By the way, before you let your entire view of the balance of the universe fall into in disarray, there is no need to worry. As far as we know, there is still no such thing as an Amish bar. Jamesport Tavern is one of the English merchants mixed in among the Amish businesses.

I just love Shirley and she remembers me every time I visit from Colorado. This place has some…read morefunny dudes that frequent it. Good chance you'll run into some names like...Schibby, Humper, Slade, Cockeye, Freaky T., Sliff... If you are lucky, you may hear the sweet sounds of the band, Slow Leak. I think you can buy a house in this area, fully furnished for near $5k. It's very interesting how the Amish are a huge part of the economy. I dare you to walk around with an Obama shirt in this and neighboring towns.

Parade of Hearts brought us into St Joe. We were hungry and saw the reviews. We love places like…read morethis...what could go wrong?!?!? Well let me start off with the fact they are over an hour away from our home. Considering they have ruined us on any and all other burger and fries, it might become a habit. Husband had the Blackberry Bacon and Blue Cheese Burger. I do not on the norm like blackberries, but on this!!!! The blackberries sweetness stands against the strong overpowering blue cheese and they meld well to make a wonderful tasting combo. I ordered There Goes My Gryo.....how did they get a freaking lamb burger, a very lean meat be that juicy!?!? I dont know but with the peppers, tomato and onion made a fresh hamburger, might be good with some kalamata olive....but I am not complaining. It was delicious. I am picky on my fries and usually dont eat the full amount restaurants serve. I had to stop myself. They are more like a shoestring but not hard or crunchy. Seasoned wonderfully! My suggestion you go in there with a big appetite, grab lots of napkins and be ready to devour the best burger you've ever had!

First time, got the pastrami sandwich, fries and a coke, take-out. You order on a tablet when you…read morewalk in. They were attentive to see if I needed assistance but we got it down. Placed order within 2-3 minutes of walking in. Sat down at the bar and waited. The place looked well kept and fairly busy for a Thursday afternoon. Meal was ready in less than 10 minutes and it was delicious. I would say that they are higher priced, but the portion size for the price is solid. Personally little heavy for lunch, but I might try something else little lighter next time or just come in for dinner and try a shake because they look good also! What I ordered this time was delicious and I will be back and refer! Thank you!
