Parade of Hearts brought us into St Joe. We were hungry and saw the reviews. We love places like this...what could go wrong?!?!? Well let me start off with the fact they are over an hour away from our home. Considering they have ruined us on any and all other burger and fries, it might become a habit. Husband had the Blackberry Bacon and Blue Cheese Burger. I do not on the norm like blackberries, but on this!!!! The blackberries sweetness stands against the strong overpowering blue cheese and they meld well to make a wonderful tasting combo. I ordered There Goes My Gryo.....how did they get a freaking lamb burger, a very lean meat be that juicy!?!? I dont know but with the peppers, tomato and onion made a fresh hamburger, might be good with some kalamata olive....but I am not complaining. It was delicious. I am picky on my fries and usually dont eat the full amount restaurants serve. I had to stop myself. They are more like a shoestring but not hard or crunchy. Seasoned wonderfully! My suggestion you go in there with a big appetite, grab lots of napkins and be ready to devour the best burger you've ever had! read more

Children museum recommended this place. Good thing we came early with kids since it seems a lot of locals eat here. We split a burger and the kids shared grilled cheese. We also got soda floats which they serve ice cream and soda separately. We got to enjoy cold soda and kids enjoyed vanilla ice cream. Overall great service and ambiance. Great food cooked right before your eyes! Old time diner ambience with fresh sandwiches and friendly wait staff.

Nope. Nope. And nope. Never again. (Are hairnets no longer a thing?) We walked in and were immediately greeted by what I can only describe as a smoke alarm's worst nightmare. The entire place was filled with smoke, and within seconds our eyes were watering. We'd heard good things about the restaurant, though, so against our better judgment, we decided to stick it out. We sat at the counter waiting for our food. Eventually, the kids had to go outside because their eyes were watering so badly. At that point we changed our order to-go, because apparently breathing comfortably had become part of the takeout experience. I ordered the Reuben. Unfortunately, I didn't just taste the Reuben. I tasted the atmosphere. Whatever was creating the cloud of smoke inside the restaurant had apparently seasoned my sandwich as well. It tasted exactly like the air smelled, which is not a flavor profile I've ever requested. Absolutely disgusting. I waited thinking maybe the gross burn smoke flavor was just in my nose. After 10 minutes about and away from RC's I tried it again. Still bad and now worse. I ended up just having to throw it away. I will give credit where it's due: the staff we interacted with were friendly. However, adding to the experience was an older gentleman with long hair who appeared visibly upset and was borderline yelling at other employees. He seemed to be auditioning for a Gordon Ramsay episode nobody else had agreed to participate in. The tension in the room was almost as thick as the smoke--and together they made for one unforgettable dining experience, just not in the way you want. And no one was wearing hair nets. Maybe it's not required. Didn't find hair in my food, but couldn't eat it to find out if there was any in there to begin with. I genuinely hope this was an unusual, one-off bad day for them, especially because we had heard good things. But between the watering eyes, kids evacuating the building, cremated smoke-flavored Reuben, and the kitchen drama, any chance of us returning went up in smoke right along with lunch. Nope and nope. RC's Lunch Car is an excellent choice for lunch or dinner. This was our first visit but next time I am in St. Joe I will stop again. The burgers are exceptional. Handmade right in front of you and loaded with what ever you desire. Many options. They are so big they come with a knife stuck through to hold them together. The pastrami Reuben is also an excellent choice, served with beer kraut. Wonderful!! The best thing there is the home cut and wonderfully fried up french fries. The best fries I have ever had bar none. Although I did not have one the malts, shakes and floats looked wonderful and are made the old fashioned way. Hand dipped and made on an old shake machine. First time, got the pastrami sandwich, fries and a coke, take-out. You order on a tablet when you walk in. They were attentive to see if I needed assistance but we got it down. Placed order within 2-3 minutes of walking in. Sat down at the bar and waited. The place looked well kept and fairly busy for a Thursday afternoon. Meal was ready in less than 10 minutes and it was delicious. I would say that they are higher priced, but the portion size for the price is solid. Personally little heavy for lunch, but I might try something else little lighter next time or just come in for dinner and try a shake because they look good also! DELICIOUS!! Great service, great food, great atmosphere. The burgers are huge. We tried the early riser and Triple B burgers. The Triple B burger was perfectly portioned with blackberry, bacon and blue cheese. We switched out the ham for bacon on the early riser and it was so good. The French fries were the star of the show. So hot, perfectly crispy, and so many in the portion. We decided to indulge in a s'mores milkshake; another delicious item on the menu. The food is fantastic. When you first get there, it has kind of a 60's diner vibe, and it seemed like a greasy spoon. We thought it might be a mistake. But, the service was prompt and friendly, and the reviews were great, so we decided to give it a go. I had the BBB burger, based on the Yelp reviews and though I was skeptical about the black berries, it was probably the best bleu burger I've ever had. Fries were just okay. I cannot tell you how much I loved the Bourbon Bacon Blue burger! The meat was cooked perfectly medium so it was juicy and tender. The grilled onions were delightful and tasty. This is a diner setting with a walkup counter to order. So the food was good. I had the lamb gyro which was made to perfection. The French fries were shoestring type but over fried. The chocolate milkshake was old fashion and delicious served with the extra on the side still in the steel blender. Now here is the reason I won't go back. The smell of the grease from the cooktops and friers was so strong that I had to strip all my clothes as soon as I got home. My husband's clothes were still in the closet the next day and I could still smell the grease. They need to figure out a way to vent more effectively. read more

One of the best burger we've ever had. Husband and I were driving through back to KC and went here on a whim since it was so highly rated. The reviews don't lie, this is a gem. Everyone is greeted like returning friends upon coming in. It's decorated like an old diner but just like their menu it's updated and modern. My wife and I have now eaten here 3 times, eating something different each time. I have had a Cubano sandwich, Pastrami Ruben sandwich, shrimp tacos, and french fries. I have also tried some of my wife's chicken tacos. Everything I have eaten has been outstanding. The seating area is simple with some tables and a counter that allows you to watch your delicious meal being prepared. Everyone that works there is helpful and friendly. Wow! You can't find better food and friendlier, faster service than RC's Lunch Car! We'd had RC's delivered to The Den a while back. The Cubano was delicious and I can't recall what my husband had. Anyway, tonight we wanted to go somewhere new-to-us and casual. RC's fit the bill. As soon as we sat down, the owner(?) came over to explain how to order. It was difficult to decide, as everything sounded delicious. I got the BLTA and fries (best fries I've had in years). Lots of bacon, wheat toast, fresh lettuce and tomatoes, and avocado (no mayo--ew). It was a giant sandwich and perfect in every way. The fries, again, were great--shoestring variety and salted to perfection. My husband had the Chicken Bacon Ranch sandwich, which I snuck a bite of. It was so flavorful. He was good and got a side salad, which was nice and fresh. And he somehow snuck a vanilla malt in there. He loved that malt. You can't get malts many places, and usually they skimp on the malt powder. This was legit! The service was outstanding. Super friendly people who very clearly want you to enjoy your meal. They ask how things are, they're smiling and pleasant, they're just the best! We can't wait to become regulars at RC's when we move up north soon!! read more
