The young lady at the counter offered fantastic service. She greeted me when I walked in and thanked me by name when I left. This was our first time visiting the Country Diner. We ordered our food to go and the order was accurate. The chef salad was excellent, and we really enjoyed the onion rings and fries. The baked potato was the perfect texture. We also had the chicken fried chicken and the hamburger steak. These two entrees good but perhaps a little more seasoning would've made them better. Always a joy to hit this place. Love country cookin. Had the BBQ pork chop with mashed (creamed) potatoes and corn. Washed it down with some tasty fresh brewed sweet tea. Mopped up the sauce and tidbits with a fried cornbread cake!!! Service was spot on for being so busy. Always a treat to stop in to this place. read more

Stopped in thinking this little diner would have some good home cook breakfast. Unfortunately, this diner had missed the mark. Their was a very unfriendly vibe, sorta like one of those old horror movies where your car breaks down on a backroad and you need to find help an all everyone does is stare at you.. We pulled up to Country Diner for lunch after messing around in Henry Horton Park. It took a bit of time to figure out which door to go in. There wasn't any signage. I thought the side door, but the grandkids said, "No Grandpa, we have to go in this door," and so we did. Of course, that door opened to the back of the restaurant, even though it was on the front part of the building. As we made our way to the counter, (which, by the way, was right by the side door) I saw all the locals stare at us out of towners. Rookies. We found a table in a room adjacent to the main dining room. We shared it with at least 3 freezers, which was a topic of discussion between the kids. Perfect for a you know what, I heard one of them say. Too much Dateline, I said. We all had a laugh. Our server was attentive and brought out the order of burgers and sandwiches in a timely manner. The food tasted great, and the prices were fair. Our favorite were the onion rings. Real onion rings. Not like the crummy ones you get at the fast food joints. The kids would have been OK with fast food, but I wanted to get them out of the norm and give them an adventure. And what a family adventure it was. Pass up the Sonic and Subway and pull up a chair at the Diner. You'll have fun for sure. Quick Tip: Keep an eye on the time. The Country Diner is closed from 2pm until 4pm. So, if you have a slow eating grandson, you may want to start your lunch at like 11am. With that, you may have a shot of finishing before you get dirty looks from the staff. read more

Here's my quick and honest advice: If you're a local, try this place out and consider becoming a regular. If you are from out of town, don't worry about stopping by. From the moment I walked in, I felt out of place. I'm a huge people person, and I love meeting people. What I do not love, however, is being stared at by everyone in the restaurant from the moment I walk in to the moment I sit down. I have never felt more unwelcome. I wondered if I had something major on my face! The waiter was kind and helpful, but it really didn't seem like he wanted to be there. The kind things he said sounded more rehearsed than meaningful (e.g. enjoy your meal, thanks for eating with us, etc.). The food was the redeeming quality. It was quite delicious and affordable! If it were only for the food, I would come back! If you live in the area, it's worth becoming a regular. The relationships and the delicious yet affordable food are worth the time you'll spend there. If you're an outsider, avoid the uncomfortable feeling you'll have and swiftly move along. read more

I've been going here since i was a young lad. The philly cheese steak and curly fries make my toes curl from how good it is. If you want really good food and the atmosphere to match, go here. The people that own it, actually own it. It isn't a big corporation or a shell company, the Country Diner is the true American dream of entrepreneurs. It is a family owned and ran business, they take pride in what they do and give their all to it. The eagerness to provide the best to their customers has always amazed me. read more

The food here was really good! It was our first time coming and we got breakfast. The biscuit with gravy was really good! The gravy came out really hot (wish it had sausage pieces but either way it was really good) and the biscuit kept its crunchy exterior with soft interior while under all of that gravy. The bacon was a little cold, but came out with the perfect texture. The two eggs were perfectly made how we requested (over medium). The toast was perfectly toasted. I ended up taking one star off because the French toast was good, but it lacked cinnamon so it was almost like I was just eating eggy bread. But overall the food was really good. The service was amazing, you get that local southern hospitality. You can definitely tell the locals love to come here and chat with everyone. They have the best catfish fridays anywhere around. Their burgers are delicious and their steaks were good. They've changed hands so I'm not sure if it's still the same but it appears to be. read more

If you want a home-cooked Southern breakfast, this is your spot! Stopped by to fuel up before golf. The locals were so jovial and friendly, our waitress Hope was so attentive and conversational, even two golfing women from out of town were welcomed with smiles and fun-loving banter. We each got the Breakfast Special...two scratch biscuits, two eggs your way, choice of bacon or sausage, choice of grits, potatoes or oatmeal. Biscuits were heavenly!! Grits were the perfect texture. Bacon was perfect crispness. The home fries are exceptionally tasty, but note that they are sliced, not diced. The coffee was also delicious. One of the best meeting threes we have ever been to especially on Sunday after church. The roast beef and gravy and you got to choose three sides which I chose pinto beans, mashed potatoes, and coleslaw! It was all served properly on time, and the flavor was fantastic for southern cooking. They have a fish fry on Friday nights all you can eat for $13 who can beat that! This was the worst meat and three we have ever eaten. I had a hamburger patty the was probably cooked two days ago-dry and and hard. My husband ordered a "whole ham" and he got slivers of dried left over pieces. Like I said, this was the worst meal we have ever eaten!!! read more

We stopped while driving from Fayetteville TN to Nashville. The food is excellent and the people - customers, servers, cooks - are all so nice. I had the best cole slaw ever. The double bacon cheeseburger was perfect, with crispy bacon, fresh veggies, and nice bread. The onion rings were crispy and tender, something many cannot duplicate. We were staying at a cabin in Henry Horton State Park, right down the road. We decided to stop in for a lunch and so glad that we did. Our total bill, for 2 adults and 3 children, was around 27.00! Country food. Good Value. Breakfast for my husband and I and a friend was 16 bucks.. that was for a LOT of food... good quality, cooked like you ask. Just the regular breakfast fare, nothing fancy. They have specials every evening which are always pretty good... but they do use canned veggies and mashed potatoes... but this is a budget place... and in Chapel Hill this is about as good as it gets.
