a menu for a sandwich lunch
    Ray R.

Stopped in thinking this little diner would have some good home cook breakfast. Unfortunately, this diner had missed the mark. Their was a very unfriendly vibe, sorta like one of those old horror movies where your car breaks down on a backroad and you need to find help an all everyone does is stare at you.. The service was definitely not served with a smile and food well if your hungry and in a jam it will do. The biscuits didn't appear to be fresh which was a total disappointment. But I should of known by the cheap no name ketchup that they had. Oh the sweet tea is good.

The front. But try the side door first.

We pulled up to Country Diner for lunch after messing around in Henry Horton Park. It took a bit of time to figure out which door to go in. There wasn't any signage. I thought the side door, but the grandkids said, "No Grandpa, we have to go in this door," and so we did. Of course, that door opened to the back of the restaurant, even though it was on the front part of the building. As we made our way to the counter, (which, by the way, was right by the side door) I saw all the locals stare at us out of towners. Rookies. We found a table in a room adjacent to the main dining room. We shared it with at least 3 freezers, which was a topic of discussion between the kids. Perfect for a you know what, I heard one of them say. Too much Dateline, I said. We all had a laugh. Our server was attentive and brought out the order of burgers and sandwiches in a timely manner. The food tasted great, and the prices were fair. Our favorite were the onion rings. Real onion rings. Not like the crummy ones you get at the fast food joints. The kids would have been OK with fast food, but I wanted to get them out of the norm and give them an adventure. And what a family adventure it was. Pass up the Sonic and Subway and pull up a chair at the Diner. You'll have fun for sure. Quick Tip: Keep an eye on the time. The Country Diner is closed from 2pm until 4pm. So, if you have a slow eating grandson, you may want to start your lunch at like 11am. With that, you may have a shot of finishing before you get dirty looks from the staff.

Here's my quick and honest advice: If you're a local, try this place out and consider becoming a regular. If you are from out of town, don't worry about stopping by. From the moment I walked in, I felt out of place. I'm a huge people person, and I love meeting people. What I do not love, however, is being stared at by everyone in the restaurant from the moment I walk in to the moment I sit down. I have never felt more unwelcome. I wondered if I had something major on my face! The waiter was kind and helpful, but it really didn't seem like he wanted to be there. The kind things he said sounded more rehearsed than meaningful (e.g. enjoy your meal, thanks for eating with us, etc.). The food was the redeeming quality. It was quite delicious and affordable! If it were only for the food, I would come back! If you live in the area, it's worth becoming a regular. The relationships and the delicious yet affordable food are worth the time you'll spend there. If you're an outsider, avoid the uncomfortable feeling you'll have and swiftly move along.

The food here is awesome, and the staff is very friendly. There is no better place to eat in Chapel Hill than the Country Diner.

I love the food, and it's affordable. I love that it's the same people that work there so it's like that you can get to know them.

They're remodeling everything, including the restaurant, which now looks beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. Every item on the menu was appealing, and what we ordered was absolutely delicious. I love trying dishes you don't usually find elsewhere, so my daughter and I took a chance--and we're so glad we did. We started with the Duck River Dumpling (you can see the full description in the menu photos I took from their website). I highly recommend them--they're truly scrumptious! The house-made strawberry pepper jelly was so good, I actually asked if I could buy some to take home. I was co-hosting a baby shower for my daughter in a few days, and I thought it would be perfect served over cream cheese. It ended up being a huge hit--I made sure to give all the credit to the chef and encouraged our guests to visit the restaurant themselves. I even heard other customers loved it so much that the chef might start making extra to sell on-site. We also ordered the Pepper Jelly Crunch hamburger, which was just as tasty. Despite sharing both the appetizer and entrée, we left more than satisfied--definitely not hungry! We can't wait to go back. We live about 30 miles away, but we'll make a point to stop in whenever we're in the area. I should also mention they're building a five-star hotel, and there's a fantastic exhibition space showcasing the local Duck River area. Once everything's complete, I can see people traveling from all over to visit the state park. In the meantime, locals and nearby visitors should absolutely make time to dine here whenever possible. If I lived closer, this would definitely be my go-to spot for meeting friends--the bar area is really nice, too. Oh, and one more thing: my daughter loves flavored teas but didn't see any on the menu. She asked our waitress if she could possibly get one, and she kindly offered to whip one up herself. It was Peach flavored, and it was so good that my daughter asked for a refill! One more thing. We asked if the fries were made in-house. They were not, but they were different and some of the best we've ever eaten.

The park is being renovated at the entrance area but get past that and stop in for a GREAT burger…read moreand fries. The up charge to substitute sweet potato fries from regular seemed a little high but the reg fries were hot and fresh. The beer selection was pretty big and cold. We will definitely return to try other items on the menu.

The décor and live music make you feel like you've stepped right into the heart of Nashville, but what really sets this place apart isn't the atmosphere, it's the people. Every employee we met was genuinely kind, welcoming, and had that authentic Southern hospitality that's getting harder and harder to find. You never feel like just another tourist. You feel like a regular who just walked into their favorite hometown bar! Vegas has plenty of bars, but very few have soul. Jason Aldean's Kitchen + Bar has it in spades. The weird interaction with the server is why I'm giving it 3 stars. My husband ordered a burger, the waitress asked how he'd like it cooked, to which he responded "medium rare please". She looked at him like he was ordering raw chicken and goes "ON A BURGER?" To which I said, how would you order it? And she said "I order my burgers well done". He said "oh, no, medium rare please." To which she responded "okayyyy!" Like he's the idiot. The burger came and he started eating it, when she came back to ask how the food was she looks at the burger with a bite taken out and goes "a lot of red in there!" I just don't even know what to say, is this the first time anyone has ordered a med rare burger from her? That's how we've ordered it our whole lives. Even if it's "gross" or "dangerous" to her- it's really not her place to comment. If it's only proper to eat well done, then why did she think she was asking? She was very sweet and I would've given her 5 stars and a big tip if she hadn't made those comments. Just so bazaar. My husband and I are still scratching our heads about it.

The pancakes are huge, with mashed bananas in the batter and a heap of candied walnuts on top. It literally CANNOT be any better. I probably have these pancakes 90% of the time I eat here, because I love them so much. I have had a number of their other breakfasts (All American Breakfast, Chicken fried steak, etc.) and they were great. I am just addicted to the Banana Bread Pancakes. My wife has had many of their other items, and she is always very happy with her selections. I just don't believe there is a bad selection on their entire menu. The owners (Gary and Lorraine (sp?) are extremely friendly, as are the rest of their staff. It is always an enjoyable experience eating there. All in all, this is a great place to go for breakfast or lunch. We probably would go there even more often, but sometimes we think about it too late in the day (they are only open until 2pm).
