I read about this spot on Foodies of Nashville. As I was out brewsploring (visiting breweries), I gave my girlfriend two options: Shaffer Farms for BBQ or Campbell Station Country Store & Restaurant (this place). She chose this and so thankful she did. It is excellent. Okay, so let's set the picture. Coming up from Pulaski, I was taken down a 2 mile long 1 lane road. Then onto one that was slightly wider. Come around a corner and there are tons of cars parked along the railroad tracks. Must be the place. They are known for their steak. Please note, this is not a high end restaurant, so you are not getting wagyu or prime, but it is better than a recent high end steak house I visited, for about 1/8th the cost, so foodies are welcome here. Campbell Station is a place that was originally a train station. It now has some "store" items, mostly branded with the store's logo,old pix on the wall, and a handful of tables alongside of a semi-open kitchen. There is another room to the left. When we got there, there were 2 tables in the front room and we were promptly seated. My understanding is an hour later, we would have been waiting a long time. The menu is not huge, but covers the basics, as well as steak, frog legs, and other items you don't normally find in a country spot like this. Jennifer came over and served us (and I would highly recommend her if you are not sure what server to ask for). She was very accommodating and served our every need. We opted to split the steak, as I heard it was huge. Not wrong. If you look at the pic, you will see this thing is huge. It is done over a grill and nicely seared. The temp was a perfect medium rare. Green beans are done with ham, as are the white beans, New potatoes also nicely done, although these are pretty basic. Waiting for food, we met Hellen, who I can best describe as the restaurant's mascot. She told us the story of the building, pointed out different things in pictures, and gave the background on the owners. Definitely adds color to the entire experience. We ended with blackberry cobbler. This is a traditional cobbler with ice cream on top. Sweet, but not overly so, beautiful cobbler crust, and I should ask whose ice cream they are using, as it had a nice mouthfeel and flavor and complemented thecobbler well. Insider tip we found out: If you buy one of their shirts and wear it, you get a free dessert every time you visit. We WILL be back. read more

We accidentally discovered Campbell Station Country Store about a year ago while driving around and exploring the Culleoka area with no GPS. This place is truly in the middle of nowhere, no cell service, no Wi-Fi, and not much around it. But wow, what a hidden gem! The food here is absolutely delicious. My favorite dishes are the country fried steak, turnip greens, and fried banana peppers. The steak is also very good, and my husband absolutely loves their cheeseburger. We've been back many times since our first visit and have never been disappointed. The restaurant is always clean, and the service is excellent. Everyone here is so friendly and welcoming. One small thing to note is that the booth seating can feel a little tight, especially during busy times. We usually prefer sitting at a table because there's more room and it's more comfortable. And if you're addicted to your phone, I probably wouldn't recommend coming here! There is no Wi-Fi, and cell service is limited. Instead, you get to do something we don't do enough these days, talk to the people you came with and enjoy each other's company like the old days. :) I honestly love it here and will keep coming back. If you're looking for great food, friendly people, and a slower pace of life, this place is definitely worth the drive. read more

Other waitresses seemed very good though. It also took us about an hour to get our food AFTER we sat down! I dined there with a friend Saturday afternoon, and it was the best home-cooked meal I've ever eaten in a restaurant. EVERY bite was delicious! The ribeye was amazing! We went to the Country Store for my husband's 74th birthday and it was to me a total surprise. It gets dark early so in Culleoka you are driving in darkness most of the way and then come across some lights near the tracks. The place looks like a deserted shack except for all the cars parked in front. As we entered the front door we encountered a large space full of happy people and friendly servers. It was a Friday night and the place was full to the brim yet they accommodated a family of 7 with a good amount of elbow room. We've been to a handful of southern restaurants and I would say that this was one of the best. We had the hamburger, hamburger steak, ribeye and fried shrimp and everything was delicious. The ribeye is huge. We're from Hawaii and I have never been served What looked to me to be a double portion cooked to perfection. The shrimp was crispy and served with a great sauce. We had the yellow pepper appetizers and it was sooo good. Service is good but the icing on the cake is that John, the owner came to our table to thank us for coming and while we were talking I mentioned my husband's birthday and John excitedly told us he would get a little gift which turned out to be amazing! I won't spoil the surprise for others but just know that these are sweet people and I would go there every week for a meal if I could, just to give them business. What a great experience! The food is delicious! The ribeyes and the catfish fillets are always good. My favorite sides are the corn and the green beans. The place itself is like stepping back 100 years. All the employees and the owner treat you like you are a visiting family member. My husband and I eat there at least once a week. Try it out you won't be disappointed. Took my wife (2nd visit) and her parents (1st visit) for dinner. As we were eating I saw a roach on the wall behind my wife's parents. I didn't say anything to anyone because it would have ruined the evening. About 10 minutes later, as I was talking to the waitress, I noticed another roach on top of my water glass. I discreetly pointed to it and she said "That's never happened". She took my water glass and replaced it. I guess she didn't inform the manager, because no one came to our table to apologize. I told my wife, after we got home, what had happened. We just purchased a new home in Culleoka and I really wanted this restaurant to be "the one". We won't be back. read more

You have to be lost to get here, but when you do, it is worth the drive. My house is only 9 miles from here but it is 50 years away. You can't check in on Yelp, no mobile service, no WIFI. When you do find the door, open it to a place long lost from most of this country. A side note, if you value "atmosphere" for the sake of someone spending lots of money for decorative crap, don't make the trip. This is an old time country store that showcases it's history and time worn traditions with pride. It is comfortable and chock full of the local history. The staff are down home, easy going, and are genuinely glad you made the trip. The menu is a simple single page. Steaks are excellent and they do cook a true Blue Rare. I can't tell you how many times in a multitude of cities across this country the cooks can't perform this seemingly simple operation. How hard is it not to burn a steak? The catfish is simply heaven, perfectly fried and the homemade tartar sauce could be easily be served as a side dish by itself. If you have had the catfish at Stan's on I-65, This is better. Good simple menu and the bonus is the specials. Every night they showcase something different, chicken and noodles, chicken wings, a multitude of rotating flavors and whatever the cook has handy. BTW the chicken wings brought tears to my eyes in a good way. Plump, tender and perfectly spiced, enough heat to bring the sweat to the brow while making the tongue flare in protest, Perfect Best tip, buy a Tshirt and wear it at the restaurant. You get a free desert for wearing it and they are simply excellent. My personal favorite is the Carmel Pie. read more

2 trips and 2 really bad steaks. Most recent wasn't even a ribeye. Not sure what it was but grain ran sideways, full of grizzle, and too tough to eat. No one with the vaguest idea of what decent meat is would serve this. read more
