The room was spotless, beautiful, and clean. It had all antique furniture, which was all functional and worked without any signs of decay. The bed was wonderfully made, and nothing was out of place during our stay. The television and air-conditioning worked as intended. I attempted to take a shower mid-Tuesday afternoon. After turning on the hot water, I waited a good few minutes for the hot water to actually heat up. Not really anyone's fault; it just took a while. We were on the third floor of an older building - this was fine. The next morning, when I attempted to shower again, the hot water arrived quicker, but when trying to turn the heat down, it took a while. So, the heat in the shower is slow to respond. The staff were amazing. Justin, who resides on the grounds of the inn, was an awesome person who had answers and kindness to every situation that arose. My wife recently became disabled (getting her to the third floor was a bit of work); Justin asked if we wanted breakfast to be brought to her, instead of her coming down. We declined that, she would want to dine in the main dining hall. He was great with suggestions, super courteous, and overall awesome. When we had breakfast the morning of the 24th, Chad was the gentleman taking our order. He was a great person who regaled us with stories, gave us a good laugh, and made sure our orders were correct (wife is also allergic to dairy). He absolutely made the experience better, even if we were at the very tail end of our stay there. The breakfast was excellent; we both ended up eating a sausage breakfast bowl with salsa, bacon, and eggs (I had cheese on mine). Delicious. This is a clean, professional bed and breakfast that is worth returning to.

Our whole experience was fantastic. Matt greeted us upon arrival and showed us to our lovely room called "Bill". I was surprised at how spacious and comfortable the room was. The gas fireplace was an added bonus. The shower pressure was fantastic and the bed was firm but comfortable. There was even a cute little balcony. House keeping also did a wonderful job of keeping our room clean and tidy. Breakfast each morning exceed our expectations. I was happy there was a little menu and was told they could pretty much customize anything I'd like. Chad was super personable and always engaged us in good conversation. You could tell how passionate he is about working there. The Inn itself was charming and I enjoyed the Victorian decor. Each day little treats were left in the lobby. The chocolate chip cookies were delicious!! The location was perfect and very walkable to Broadway Street and surrounding areas. We found that a lot of stores were still dog friendly, even during the winter. I definitely recommend The Sacred Spa during your stay. I learned that the owner and his wife also own the spa. The space was stunning and my husband and I had some of the best spa services ever. Overall, I would definitely return for another stay! The customer service was superb. The walk was nice during the day, but we drove in at night since it was too dark. The main draw to this location was that it was only 2 blocks away from the Warren County Bikeway. Stewart's shops was down the block which was perfect for our ice cream and coffee fix. The stay itself was average. We arrived at 7pm and found no one in the office. We called the number and someone arrived promptly to check us in. Just concerned what would have happened if we did not have phone service. Turns out the staff was hard at work cleaning (they just finished cleaning the room). We found the Adirondack Lodge to be a good amount of space for 3 people and definitely would be ok for a couple more. The room was very clean. The fireplace area had a nice homey feel to it. We were expecting to find some plates, pots/pans and silverware, but we found none. Luckily we brought our favorite pan and spatula with us, so we just had to pick up some disposable plates and plastic ware to cook what we wanted. The comfort level of the mattresses were mixed. Mine was sufficient, but the others preferred the futon in the main area over the mattress. Staying here on a return trip depends on what is planned. If I wanted to use the bike path and do more outside of town activities, I might. However if more activities in town were planned I'd likely stay in a place there. Prices were competitive, so that is a factor too.

We stayed in the motel area each time, but this year we had some problems (AC not working and key kept jamming and locking us out) but they were super responsive and offered to move us to a different motel room or upgrade to one of the cabins for the remainder of the stay. We moved to a cabin, so it was nice to test out both options. Both types of rooms are immaculately clean, comfortable, and have full kitchens. The location is convenient to be just outside of the bustle of the town, but about a 15-20min walk to the village or beach. It is on Route 9, but the rooms still seem very quiet. Cons--the only things I find slightly weird are that you have to bring your own towels and hand soap? Also, would be nice if the bedding looked like it had been updated in this century (dated polyester bed spreads just feel grungy no matter where you stay) some clean white comforters and sheets that can be easily cleaned/bleached would do the trick.

Lake George, NY - we visited during a winter carnival weekend, and a Phantoms & Fireworks ghost…read moretour at the fort was in the events lineup. As someone who isn't really into military history but loooves everything spooky (and once upon a time belonged to a paranormal investigation club), of course I was up for some haunted fun! The ghost tour runs at night, obviously, as the midday sun isn't exactly conductive to maximum eeriness. Our guide kicked things off with a talk about the history of this 18th century British fort against the backdrop of the French and Indian War (and an apocryphal movie starring Daniel Day-Lewis). Then comes the main event, and we were brought to the casemate (basement), supposedly the most haunted part of the grounds, as it was used as a field hospital for wounded soldiers, and well, many didn't make it. Our tour guide was fantastic, equal parts historian and campfire storyteller, and regaled us with tales of entity encounters, paranormal happenings, and other unexplained phenomena. Are the stories real? Exaggerated? Completely fabricated for tourism purposes? I have no idea, but baby I got chills! If you believe that a place can carry the residual energy of suffering, deaths, not to mention infection-prone surgeries without anesthesia, perhaps these stories are believable. Note: the daytime vibe is basically just a normal historic fort, so the day tour is a pretty different experience, and doing both isn't redundant. I didn't really get to look around the museum cos I didn't want to be left behind alone after that terrifying finale about a girl who wandered off alone during a tour (no spoilers but that one made the hairs on my arm stand up!), and anyway I wanted to check out the gift shop, where the bright fluorescent lights and people are.... Finally, what a great gift shop! There's a nice assortment of souvenirs, practical items, and knick knacks, and I even snagged some cool finds on sale. My favorite score was a scratch-off card of the Catskills 3500 peaks (shoutout to Peakquest), a reminder for me to get back to peak bagging instead of ghost hunting.

The breakfasts are delicious and filling, and are served by the proprietors. It is a little bit out of the way, on a working farm at the top of a steep dirt road. But the town does a good job on the road and it is always passable. It is a lovely drive from Saratoga Springs or Glens Falls. We always go have breakfast there when we have guests there, and we always enjoy it immensely. Give these folks a call and try it if you are in the Saratoga Springs area.

But what really makes this hotel is the proprietor, Joe. He is warm, friendly, and witty. He is low-key and provides a type of customer service that is uniquely his own. This place wouldn't be the same without him. He gives this hotel its kind personality. Joe is a Host to his guests, as opposed to a Hotel Manager. He provides his guests with bikes, as well as umbrellas when it's raining. -- He thinks of everything. Further, Joe is an animal-lover. He was instrumental in founding a retirement place for race horses. The place is called Old Friends. It is for older horses who have completed their racing and breeding years. There is no other place like it. I highly recommend this hotel, and obviously, Joe.
