The tiny park is located just south of the United States Post Office on Hiatus Rd. The vision for the park was to sustain a Wildflower Meadow which serves as a bee and butterfly pollinator habitat. Absolutely no legal parking for vehicles causes me to scratch my head, with direct access only from the Hiatus Road Greenway by bike lanes or walking paths. Dogs are welcome and waste disposal stations are offered. My EXPERIENCE today with my puppy in the park was OK. The pressed black rubber path was cool for my puppy's paws during his walk. Great park to relax while peering at the tropical landscape or take a brisk short walk but not really a place to burn alot of calories.

Hard to get to but worth to visit once if you enjoy nature.

This park is located next to Gator Run Elementary School. I came over to seven acre Gator Run Park to walk off some anxiety after dropping off my dog at the vet for surgery. Park amenities include a bike fixit repair station, lighted walkways, restroom, sand volleyball court, shaded playground, and three picnic shelters. Rest assured that there are no gators to run from here. The alligator in the parks name refers to the fact the Weston is Broward County's most western town, situated right next to the Everglades. This is a great park to come for exercise, take your dog for a walk, take the kids to play, in, or have a picnic. I really love Weston and the immaculate parks are one of the reasons.

The passive park, at the corner of Bonaventure and Vista Park Boulevards, is located across from Broward County's Weston Branch Public Library, hence the name Library Park. One of the most prominent features of the park is the central fountain. Around the fountain is a ring authors who had a connection to Florida or wrote about Florida. I spotted Ernest Hemingway author of The Old Man and the Sea and who is strongly connected to Key West and Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings who lived in rural Florida and is the author of the The Yearling. Another interesting feature of the park is a history walk. Ten bronze plaques are numbered and inlaid in the paved walkway around the perimeter of the park. Each plaque gives information about the city's archaeological history dating back 5,000 years to the ancient Tequesta Indians who are now extinct. This path also celebrates Native Americans who were the first residents of Weston. The rest of the park is a large open lawn area where you can relax, play with your dog, or have a picnic. The common area was created for city residents to enjoy along with three outdoor gazebos. City residents are encouraged to use the park as a place to read books from the library. As an added bonus there are restrooms and Wi-Fi access throughout the park.

There is a huge open area for play, a sand volley ball court, basketball court, paved exercise path around the perimeter of the course, covered picnic pavilion with grill and a really large shade covered ADA accessible playground. The playground had a number of unique items of play that I haven't seen at other parks. There is also a large climbing structure with several ways to scale up it and slides to take you down. The only drawback is the rather small parking lot but I don't imagine that this park gets very crowded from people outside the neighborhood. This is a well maintained park perfect for picnics, exercise, and taking the kids to play. Davie takes great care with their parks and this is another excellent example of their dedication to providing safe and clean recreation areas in the city.

The West Ridge Open Preserve is part of the Pine Island Ridge, the highest natural elevation in…read moreBroward County. This area is 20 feet above sea level. The southern tip of the ridge was a canoe landing for Native Americans over 5,000 years ago and along the ridge there are several archaeological sites. This area was occupied by both the Tequesta and Seminoles. During the 1950's this area was cleared for cattle. Davie has since tried to restore some of the tree canopy. There is no dedicated parking to this preserve. You just have to pull off the side of the road. The preserve is paved with an exercise path that you can bike, jog, or walk. The cool thing about this preserve is that there is a couple of natural hills, a rare thing to see in flat Florida. Along the trail are benches and a number of protected burrowing owls nests although I didn't see any of the little guys home. At both ends of Westridge Open Space Preserve, the trail connects to Pine Island Ridge Natural Area. You can walk all the way to the back of Tree Tops Park or go from Westridge Preserve along Nob Hill Road to Bergeron Park. The Pine Island Ridge Trail is popular with horseback riders so watch where you step. I love how you can go on to other hikes from this area. If you have not explored the Pine Island Ridge yet you are missing out on one of the most natural and nature filled parts of Davie.

There are some shaded areas to chill or picnic. There are also many owl nests that have been relocated from other areas. I like to call it the "owl sanctuary". I have passed this place on Nob Hill hundreds of times and never noticed it. There is no parking. Visitors just park on the grass. I would say many of the visitors who enjoy this area probably come from the housing developments that surround the preserve. I enjoy adding the Westridge Ooen Preserve as past of my walks. When Broward County Parks were closed due to Covid-19, it was really crowded. It was a nice little piece of green that was always open when the parks were closed. Now it's pretty empty, and a nice place to stroll and enjoy a bit of nature.

Deicke Park opened on October 10, 1993. It was named in honor of Plantation pioneer Edwin F…read more Deicke. Deicke was a philanthropist who gave money to people and organizations in need in Illinois where he grew up, and Broward County, where he and his wife Lois built a home in Plantation in 1961. As a young man he wasn't able to afford to go to college but he became successful in the insurance business eventually becoming president of the country's oldest insurance company. He amassed a fortune and used it to help others before he retired to Florida. In Plantation some of the beneficiaries of his generosity were students at Plantation and South Plantation High Schools who received scholarships to go to college. Edwin F. Deicke passed away after a long illness in 1984. His wife Lois continued to give money to the causes they supported after his death. Deicke Park is a tranquil neighborhood park. It has a half-mile jogging trail with exercise equipment designed for use by the general public and people who are physically challenged. Other park amenities include two hard court tennis courts, a sand volleyball pit, a basketball court, picnic tables and open play areas. There is also a shaded playground for toddlers and older children. The park pavilion can be rented for parties, picnics and family gatherings. Restrooms are open only during the day. Although I enjoyed the exercise path, my favorite part of the park was discovering the nests of burrowing owls near the sand volleyball court. Burrowing owls are considered endangered, threatened or of special concern in nine U.S. states. Unlike other owls, they are not strictly nocturnal and are active during the day. They make their nests in underground burrows, which are dug out by ground squirrels and they prefer open grasslands. They are pretty timid and will pop back into their burrows if you approach but I managed to catch sight of one little fellow. The park was very busy during my visit. People were walking on the exercise path, playing volleyball, basketball, and tennis, and watching their kids play on the playground. Deicke is a great recreational resource for the Plantation community. Come visit Deicke Park anytime from dawn to dusk.

This park has everything you could ask for in a neighborhood park; wide open spaces for soccer or football practice, a nice, often shady, path for walking, biking, or jogging, 2 tennis courts, a volleyball area, a covered pavilion, and a playground. (Right now the playground is closed off & the picnic tables under the pavilion have been removed because of the pandemic.). There's still plenty of reasons to go to this cute, little neighborhood park and spend some time outdoors!
