Country Kettle Chowda has been a staple of Long Beach Island for many years. The signature chowder can be ordered in a cup or with a bread bowl. There are several soups to choose from as well as a soup of the day menu. There's seating indoors and out. The soup is ready to go as soon as you order. The chowder was freshly made with alot of herbs. I didn't think the bread and chowder matched perfectly. Maybe the bread could have been more yeasty. It was a bit disappointing to see Styrofoam still used as the plate. I think its great to have the soup bowl on something rigid but perhaps a more eco friendly product could be used in the future. read more

As a huge fan of New England clam chowder I'm always skeptical when anywhere outside of New England says they have great clam chowder. That said this little jersey shore space was at as advertised. I love stopping in here whenever I'm in the area! Country Kettle Chowda has been in the business for as long as I can remember, and they're easily the best at what they do in the area. The New England clam chowder is probably my favorite and most consistent of their chowder varieties, but I really love the fact that you can mix some of their options together (e.g. the clam chowder and lobster bisque) for even some more delicious variety! We decided to take a drive to Long Beach Island and get some chatter at our favorite place @countrykettlechowda. It's a tiny place and take out only, but there are a few tables nearby outside to sit and eat at. They make a few different kinds of soup, but their clam chowder and lobster bisque are by far the best, especially when served in a bread bowl. I stopped by here earlier today with my wife and kids for lunch. We had noticed signs around the area for country kettle chowda and let's be honest, who doesn't love a good chowder near the beach. So whenever lunch time came around we decided to get some. This restaurant is actually quite tiny and is located in Bay Village in Beach Haven. The inside consists of people taking your orders and then a couple of vats of their different soups. For my soup on this day, I decided to go with the New England clam chowder while my wife went with the lobster bisque. It was ready quickly and we headed over to the Taylor Avenue Waterfront to eat. The chowder itself ended being pretty good as it had a creamy base. Then there were lots of potatoes in it and it had a nice clam flavor as well. My wife thought her lobster bisque was really good as it had large chunks of lobster in it. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. My wife and I both enjoyed our soups and I would love to have one in a bread bowl. read more

Like...of all foods. I crave it during the year, and it really feels like summer when I am eating gazpacho from Country Kettle Chowda. Visiting family for a week on LBI NEACH HAVEN. Talk with the locals about where to get the best chowder, and 9 out of 10 times they'll say Country Kettle. Chowder. This is a really small place. Just enough room to stand at the counter and place your order and leave. You can get your chowda cold to take home or hot to eat as you sit outside or walk around. I like New England and Manhattan style. We got one of each cold to heat back at our rental. The ew England style was great. The Manhattan style was good, but was missing something spice wise that I got eating it growing up on Long Island. But go taste for yourself, either way you will be pleased. I recently purchased 2 quarts of soup. One was lobster bisque. The other quart was New England clam chowder. The New England chowder was unbelievably delicious as was the lobster bisque. However, the lobster bisque was saltier than I like. All in all I will go back for the New England clam chowder. It's so funny listening to tourist outside the place, they think they've discovered a place that's been around my whole life. I really loved the mixed version (what a great idea!) because it had the rich, hearty quality of NE with the zesty flavor of the Manhattan. The quart size is at least three regular bowls worth, so it's great for sharing between two chowder lovers or a big meal on your own. For many years, our very first stop is the Chowda Hut (aka Country Kettle) for ... chowder. Really good chowder.., tradition! I got the traditional clam chowder - just enough spice - delicious. At the risk of handing out too many 5 star reviews, this clam chowder IS a five star chowder. I found this place based off a recommendation from a friend while visiting LBI and I am SO happy I did. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest we have a lot of great chowder but this is probably the best I've ever had. This may have been the longest remaining item on my Collections list of must-try places. My goodness. Finally got to LBI during the summer and late enough in the day for the place to be OPEN. I brought my friend and kids in, we all ordered the chowders and snarfed them down. Takeaway: Manhattan is not my thing, so I had just the barest hint of it smeared on top to try some Rhode Island Red, but most of my chowder was NE Clam. It was a bit sweeter than I think I'd prefer and the soup seemed like it was discrete instead of continuously smooth. That's the best I can describe that impression for some reason. I live in Marlton, NJ, which is about an hour's drive from my front door to Chowder, a small gem of a soup restaurant in Beach Haven. It's not unusual for me to be drawn there three or four times a year. I can wake up in the morning with no intention of having soup at Chowder, but suddenly, I find myself racing through the Pine Barrens, craving some gazpacho soup (my favorite) or their perfectly done chowder. It's difficult to explain, but the urge just takes over, and I have to drop everything to go get some. It's simply the best.
