We're spending the week down the shore, Jersey speak for the beach, and we wanted delivery to a playground and picnic area near The Chicken or the Egg. Other than the hamburger, nothing was exceptional or even very good. Nothing was substandard but it certainly wasn't the sort of meals you go out of your way to get. The two Caesar wraps, blueberry pancakes, chicken fingers, fruit salad platter were okay but nothing more. I had the Fish and Chips, the fish was heavily fried, which was okay but the fries seemed to be reheated. The burger was really good. Stopped in at Chicken & Egg while in LBI with some friends. I ordered the Redneck Benedict, which sounded like a fun twist on a classic, but it ended up being just okay. On the positive side, the decor was pleasant and gave the place a nice atmosphere. Honestly, that was probably the highlight of the experience for me. Disappointed by the Quality at a Place with a Big Reputation My husband and I stopped at The Chegg today during an impromptu beach trip to LBI. We've always known how popular this spot is--there's usually a line out the door. So when we walked in and were seated immediately, we were surprised. At first, we thought we just got lucky, but looking back, maybe it was a sign of what's changed. We started with the fried pickle spears, and I ordered the chicken taco salad bowl while my husband got the buffalo chicken salad bowl with grilled chicken and chipotle barbecue sauce. Our server asked if we wanted the pickles first, and we said yes--but within what felt like five minutes, everything came out at once. That might sound efficient, but it felt rushed, like our food had been waiting around in a queue instead of being made fresh. The fried pickles were okay, but clearly frozen--not freshly made in-house. My taco salad was served on a plate in a tortilla shell, which felt awkward and not very functional. I ended up flipping the shell over, breaking it into pieces, and mixing it into the salad. The greens were a mix of iceberg, spinach, and purple lettuce, but some of the iceberg pieces were chunky and could've been chopped more finely. And they definitely skimped on the chicken. My husband's salad had another issue entirely--the chicken was cold. Fully cooked, thankfully, but not warm at all. I noticed the same with mine. It gave us the impression that the chicken had been pre-cooked and stored, just portioned out when needed--not freshly grilled per order, which is disappointing, especially at a place with a reputation for quality. We popped in here on a cold, rainy and windy Sunday morning in October. It is absolutely off season but even so, this place was a hit with both the wife and I and a place we'd be happy to bring the kids to if back in the area. When we got there, we were one of only two tables full. By the time we left, the main room was starting to fill up. I can see why. We ordered a jalapeño bagel egg sandwich and a hungry man egg platter. The food was very good and made even better with some of their "hot sauce" aka wing sauce which was a big hit for us. Literally the only reason to go to the Chegg was grabbing greasy Sysco diner food at 2 a.m. after the bars. Without late-night hours, this place just isn't worth it anymore. New management completely missed what made it an LBI institution. It's just another disappointment in the slow transformation of Beach Haven since Hurricane Sandy and COVID. The decor was seaside diner. Ordered at our table...a large western style omelette, fluffy and full of the extras, a French Toast egg sandwich (clean plate club), a plate with a pancake, over easy eggs, home fries and toast, all cooked perfectly. The Chegg is a go to spot when visiting LBI. I really like that breakfast options can be ordered all day (diner style) without the restaurant having a diner feel. The crabby omelette is to die for and so filling. I highly recommend giving it a try when it is on the specials menu. It is pricey but I honestly think worth the price tag. The boneless wings are also very filling and can even be shared between two people if opting to order a side of fries. We usually share the garlic pub fries, which come with a side of ranch. My husband usually purchases a bottle of santos sauce to take home, which is a nice option they offer. Wait times can be long so prepare for that. The restaurant has recently expanded their interior, which definitely helps. Once inside, the decor is also very fun. There is a lot to look at while waiting for food. It's been over a decade since I last had CHEGG and they're still so good. I heard they changed owners but the decor inside is the same - funny chicken themed. Love all the varieties of sauces. They can get busy but have a loudspeaker to call you if you're waiting outside (more places need this). Once seated, the service was incredibly fast. Drove 40 minutes to get there this morning anticipating something special. The website said that they opened at eight. I got there about 930 and the place was locked up tighter than a drum. I would've really liked to have eaten there but oh well. When I tell you that I practically grew up on Chegg, that's not an exaggeration. The amount of memories and good meals I've had at this restaurant over the years is innumerable. However, I visited here again recently and a sour taste was left in my mouth. The entire restaurant has undergone a semi-recent expansion and despite pouring tons of money into the physical restaurant location, the management here seems to have drastically reduced the customer experience. Not only have prices risen to ridiculous amounts ($11 for FIVE wings not including any fries.. who are we kidding), but the food quality has dipped as well. I ordered the bone-in breaded mild wings on a recent visit, and was shocked to find that some of the wings were only half-coated in the sauce. They've also changed their selection of fries so you can only get a massive plate of them (no sides!!) for $8... huh? They are still tasty though so I'll give them that. To add further salt in the wound they've also recently changed their credit card policy so that you have to pay an additional percentage if you're paying by card, which is just ridiculous for a restaurant their size. It's a shame that Chegg has really dipped in quality and overall customer experience so much over the years, and I hope they can wake up and see that it'll be losing them customers. read more

What a staple in LBI. My boyfriend and I were looking for a quick place to stop and grab dinner. The Chegg to the rescue. We put our names down and the wait was about half an hour. It went quick and honestly we spent most of our time looking through the huge menu. I'm so glad we decided on the chicken tenders! They were so good. I mean trust me when I say everything is very much like diner food, but the chicken tenders and their sauces. They do them well. Chicken is their thing and they are very good at it. The French onion soup was ok, the chowder was alright as well but the chicken nachos and the tenders stole the show. I also just love the decor on the walls. All the servers were so friendly too. We hadn't been here since 2008 and we decided it was time to go again since it's such an institution and we loved the food the first time. So last night we decided to stop in for dinner BEFORE it got crowded. We were seated immediately (they will only seat full parties). The place can get pretty crowded and loud, but it's still fun. The wait staff is hot or miss, but I always try to give servers the benefit of the doubt as customers can be jerks... Since they don't serve alcohol here (and since we've been dehydrated all week) we just got waters all around. We started with an order of Disco Fries (OMG they were really REALLY good) and wings (5 with Santos Sauce and 5 with Killer Bee Sting Sauce). The wings we ordered naked (you know, because breading would damage our girlish figures) and they were fantastic! Wifey ordered the Buffalo Chicken Salad and loved it...lettuce was crisp and crunchy and the chicken was delicious The boy and I both got the Buffalo Chickwich (he got the Santos Sauce and I got the Chipotle BBQ) - a really good fried chicken sandwich with pickles and a side of fries The girl had the Chicken Cluckwich and liked it a lot and the girl's boy got the 5-piece Buffalo Fingers with honey BBQ sauce and he HAMMERED them. Absolutely worth the hype! (Hate to say it) We loved our server Gianna, a total gem! We waited about 10min on a Saturday morning around 10:30am for a table for 2- we got pretty lucky- it was packed! We had to try the famous wings and they were so good! We ordered them with their famous beesting sauce - perfect spicy/sweet ratio. We then ordered the famous Cinnamon Roll French Toast (wow this was phenomenal) and Midwestern Omelet - also very good! It came with potatoes and choice of toast!
