We went here for my birthday which happened to be on Thanksgiving. We had reservations for 4:45 and were promptly seated by their friendly hostess. While they offered a traditional Thanksgiving menu, we weren't interested in eating turkey so we ordered off the special of the day and regular menu. We ordered a crab stuffed portobello mushroom that was served over spring greens with avocado slices and a balsamic glaze. I loved it but my partner doesn't like avocados or balsamic. His loss! We also ordered the fried calamari which came with both marinara sauce and a creamy tartar sauce. The calamari was crunchy, tender and delicious. I loved the lemon in netting that came with it. Next came the house salads with cucumber and grape tomatoes and obvious homemade croutons. Their blue cheese dressing was also homemade and was one of the best blue cheese dressings I ever had. Just delicious! Our entrees were the prime rib and South African lobster tails. We both got creamy mashed potatoes. He got fresh string beans with his prime rib, while I got asparagus with my lobster tails. The prime rib was melt in your mouth delicious. You didn't even need a knife! The lobster tails were tender and sweet. If you've never had South African lobster tails, they are a must try! The place was super busy and kind of loud in the bar area (bartender was loud) as we sat at a high top table but we were fine with that. Our server was super efficient and pleasant. Go here for the Chilean sea bass and $9 high noons if you are in the area. The fresh baked rolls were delicious and hot out of the oven. If you like a noisy bustling bar scene this the the place! It was very loud and very busy. Several birthdays were being celebrated and the Yankees game was on in the background. There was music which was difficult to hear until several surrounding parties departed. Our waitress took forever to come to our table and our water glasses were often left empty. Our calamari came out without marinara and by the time we got the sauce 30 min later the food was cold so we couldn't eat it. The fried shrimp were good and the calamari was cooked perfectly just wish we had the marinara to start with and we probably didn't need both fried appetizers. The garden side salad was typical with two cherry tomatoes and two cucumbers and good with ranch dressing. I had the lobster, scallops and shrimp in vodka sauce over linguini and my hub had the chillian sea bass. Mine was too heavy and we switched halfway through. His fish and light and flakey and I liked it. Overall a decent meal but for the prices there are better options that I prefer. I suppose if you are staying in the hotel or walking distance to the area it might be worth a trip back. read more

Everyone thinks that LBI is deserted come after Labor Day and going into the Winter season. Today I took in a matinee at the Surflight Theater and seeking a dinner venue afterward, landed here. Surprisingly, the whole dining room was filled but the competent staff handled the crowd easily. The food was fresh and very tasty. Though we stuck to the seafood, the restaurant offers a full menu with something for everyone. Obviously, the quality of the meal attracted everyone around. read more

Have stayed here before and love the outdoor pool and sand bar area. Listened to Live music and it gave us beach access. Lbi distillery cocktails that are really great, a new local distillery to check out opening in March 2024 read more

Our server Steph was superb! The atmosphere in the restaurant was warm, friendly and terrific for a couple or small group to converse. We were there for sushi night and I found the Kani salad a disappointment. It can be made with crabmeat and when I'm lucky it can sit on a little seaweed salad which provides a contrast to the mayonnaise in the kani. But this salad was surimi ( fish/ fake crab legs) ( which I understand is typical w Kani ) and although the spicy sauce had and panko crunch was light and tasty it's not my preference. My sushi rolls ( the lobster roll and eel/cucumber) rolls were good and my tuna sushi pieces were yummy. Hubby ordered "Sushi deluxe" which was great . For drinks he ordered Guinness times 2. He liked it but it was unusually cold- . The meal began with warm rolls and muffins which were excellent and something that seem to be disappearing from many restaurants. The sea bass portion was minuscule -- more like 2 fish sticks at just over 3.5" long and less than ¾" thick. While it tasted fine it was definitely NOT worth $42. The key lime pie was also tiny -- not even as long as a very small desert fork and about 2" wide or so. It was absolutely NOT worth the exorbitant price of $10 that they charged for it. We have visited the Engleside quite often over the many years we have been coming to LBI and this is honestly the first time we have felt totally and completely disappointed and quite honestly taken advantage of by price gouging. We won't return and that makes us sad as they used to be one of our go to and most enjoyed restaurants. read more

Everytime we come here, we wait about 30 minutes on average to sit at the sushi bar. There would be people sitting there socializing at the sushi bar before we get there, still the same people there while we sit and eat, and still the same people there after we leave! All the while that when we leave, we put $ in the tip jar because it is empty!! No courtesy or respect for other customers or servers relying on tips. We stopped going because it has become ridiculous. There should be TIME LIMITS to sit there, because people hang out for hours after they eat just to socialize, no additional tips given. Went here with Family and Friends last night just to grab a drink and watch the Live Music. We were all standing on the side long bar (it was very crowded and we were trying to keep the bar seats open for those who were going to sit and linger) when we got screamed at and absolutely berated by the bartender Cori or Corrine. She was screaming for all of us to hand over our IDs' which, all of us who were drinking, are well over 21, and we had two teenagers with us who were drinking sodas that were given to us by the other bartender. She continued to scream at all of us for about two to three minutes, which does not seem long, but when you're standing in a crowded area and stuck under a tent due to rain, it does make you feel a little uncomfortable. We all had no problems handing over our IDs, as well as clarify with the bartenders that the two children with us were not drinking. The gentleman bartender did say to one of our group that we were not doing anything wrong. While that was happening the bartender was turned around still screaming at all of us saying that "she is allowed to ask for ID", I would like to preface, that there is no issue at all for asking for someone's ID. We were completely understanding of that request and obliged happily, the issue all of us had, was being berated and screamed at for having two teenagers with us while they were not seated at the bar. This bartender continued to yell at all of us and told us that "they're acting sketchy and turning away from me everytime I walk past them" mind you this was because we were in a crowded area.... it was loud due to music..... and they were just trying to talk to one another. Our entire family has decided to walk out, pay our tab first, but leave due to this entire situation. I was on a seperate tab and I went over to the bar to wait and close out my tab. While I was waiting I could hear the same bartender Cori, walking around to all of the patrons and telling them that "if they weren't being so weird and so fucking sketchy there wouldn't have been a problem". I found it absolutely wild, inappropriate and down right just tacky to sit there and talk about a negative interaction you just had with a customer to other customers!!! I would like to preface again she was doing all of this directly in front of me after just screaming at my entire family. She then walked right up to me and asked if I wanted another drink, which I found appalling after the treatment she just gave us that she thought we were going to stay and I politely asked for the check. I have never seen, or received treatment like that in my entire life. I have also been working in the service industry for the last ten years, and I have had to be the jerk that needs to take someones ID, I have also had to be the person to find management and remove someone from where I work but I have never EVER thought to sit there and berate and badger customers like that in my entire life. Last night was quite possibly the most unprofessional and nasty treatment I have ever witnessed in my entire life. read more

We were on LBI for a few days visiting family in the area. We had heard great things about this restaurant so we decided to give it a try. We started with the shrimp shumai appetizer which was flavor free. We tried the scallops appetizer and that was delicious. We also had the muscles in a wine butter sauce. That was okay. For our entrees, I had assorted sushi rolls and my husband had the NY strip. He definitely ordered better than i did, although the sauce on his steak did not taste like anything. My water tasted very bad & strange. Half of the people at my table had this strange-tasting water. However, when I got a refill, it tasted normal. Also, I ordered my filet mignon medium-rare. When it came out, it was more than well-done. One of my table mates had the prime rib, and it was so rare, that a good surgeon could get it up and walking again. It was uneatable. Upon recommendation of my uncle, I returned to the Engleside for sushi a year later. MAJOR disappointment. First of all, service was superrrrr slow and my mom put her hand in old food on her chair that was not cleaned off by the prior party. We ordered the scallop ceviche and tuna cracker for appetizers. I wish I took pictures because these were MINIATURE. Not enough for one person let alone a table. Tuna ceviche was flavorless and the taste of the crostini didn't go with the dish at all. For our meal, the four of us ordered sushi. As I said before, used to be the best sushi on the island. Now it is the WORST. The rolls were soooo tiny, 6 pieces for regular or special rolls. Hardly any rice. My mom ordered the blue crab roll, which came out as kani. She sent it back and received a new roll - the Maryland roll (?) which was hot (?) twenty minutes later. I ordered the nutty tuna roll, which came out with NO TUNA. I sent it back, and the same four pieces of sushi I had left were returned to me on the same plate with globs of spicy tuna on top - which ruined the palate and texture of the roll and looked SO unappetizing. The soft shell crabs were amazing. The rib entree was very good. The gin and tonics and cucumber mint cocktail were delish. Staff was attentive and the food came out nice and hot. Will be back again. I would like to thank The Englleside for accommodating my family and dog on last minutes notice during one of the saddest times of my life. My father had a stroke during surgery and I live 5 hours away. When I called to make a reservation they not only gave me a great rate for a week, but Mike went above and beyond to make sure we were all comfortable during this terrible time. this is one of the reasons why The Engleside is the only place I've stayed for the last 30 years. On our way out to dinner, we bumped into another couple who were staying at the same place as us. They had just come back from dinner here, and said the food was excellent. After we drove to our first choice restaurant and found it closed, we decided to come here. I didn't even see it and it was so close to where we were staying. The dining room is dark, formal, and a bit old fashioned. I loved it and the atmosphere. It would be really cozy in the winter with the fireplace lit. We sat on the side with the bar and it's all one big room. The menu isn't huge but it's large enough to accommodate most tastes. We heard from two people that they're known for their prime rib. I don't eat it so that was out. We were in the mood for seafood. We started with the calamari appetizer. It was lightly battered and fried to perfection so it was tender, not rubbery or greasy. It came with a garlic mayo type sauce and lemon. It didn't need anything on it because it was tasty on its own but the sauce was flavorful and it was also yummy with just the lemon. Our dinners came with salad and we upgraded to Caesar salad for $3 each. It was delicious! You could tell that the dressing was homemade, and the lettuce was fresh and crispy with no brown spots. I was so happy! For our dinners we got the broiled seafood combination and the crab cakes. The seafood combo was perfectly broiled and served with drawn butter and lemon. It was a nice sized portion and came with a side, so the choice was a baked potato. My two crab cakes had lump crab in them and they were a good size. My entree was supposed to come with old bay fries but I didn't get them. I didn't bother asking because I didn't really want them anyway. Both entrees also came with coleslaw and it was very good, not overly drenched in mayo like most places make it. It was fresh too. The lemons came with a yellow strainer cloth tied with a green ribbon. It was these little touches that elevated the dining experience, along with the service. The service was great! Our server, Emily M. was friendly and nice. Although she was young, she knew how to provide quality service. She was very attentive and must have refilled our water glasses about six times. It's rare to get such good service from anyone these days so it stood out and we really appreciated it. We were too full for dessert. I couldn't even finish my dinner. Next time we'll save room because the desserts sounded delicious. Yes, the entrees are a little expensive but you get a good portion of quality food so it's well worth it. I heard they also have excellent sushi and there were several people at the bar ordering sushi. Maybe next time I'll try some cooked rolls or something else cooked from the sushi bar, since I don't eat raw fish anymore. Someone at the next table got a burger and it was huge and looked really good. I saw a chicken stir fry with noodles that looked delicious too. The portion was huge. My only complaint is that they serve Pepsi products which I hate, and they don't have fresh brewed iced tea either. I was dying for a Coke. Lol. I look forward to going back for the Caesar salad, to try the French onion soup, and maybe some dessert. The owner(s) know what they're doing and it shows. This restaurant is a hidden gem. Engleside is always a treat! My family has loved coming here for years, whether it's enjoying the delicious sushi or the full menu. I came tonight and ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo special and it was AMAZING! This should absolutely be a permanent item on the menu! It has a generous portion of lump crab meat and mushrooms. It has a delicious truffle cheesy taste. And the portion is huge! I've truly enjoyed everything I've tried here over the years. Was pleasantly surprised at how great our food was! Because of the pandemic, we could only get take out. We had the clams casino appetizer, scallops and artichokes over angel hair and the Absolute shrimp, scallops and lobster over angel Hair. Everything was fresh, hot and delicious!! The clams casino were the best we ever had and so was the lobster bisque. Our main courses were: filet mignon, Captain's cut prime rib and two orders of pork chops.
